  Is there any library that achieves the following: Convert Microsoft Windows 98 Microsoft Windows XP Windows 7 Windows Ultimate Desktop Windows to Windows 4 The complicated part here is to recognize that "Desktop Windows" is an anomaly here and not count it. If nothing is added before the word "Windows", perhaps it can be counted but if there is something else and the suffix does not match any popular suffix, it can still be counted. Maybe I am a little vague here but perhaps someone could have an idea about what I am talking about here. Any suggestions?

• CodeMirror Dynamic Syntax Validation

  Been trying to decide between using CodeMirror or Ace editor. I've been leaning towards CodeMirror, however there's one feature of Ace that I really like and that is how it does syntax validation. So as I'm typing there can appear a warning or error icon in the left gutter area beside the line number, and when I hover over it it gives me a little description. Is there any way to get this functionality in CodeMirror? Specifically, I'm using the css mode for CodeMirror. It'd also be nice to be able to add in my own custom validation. Thanks.

• Where happens merging in SVN - on the client or server?

  At my company we evaluate working with feature branches. We want to use mergeinfo to track merging. I have issues in some of our tested projects where merging a trunk that has only little changes into branch leads to lots of changed files because of the changed mergeinfo. I read that this behaviour improoved between version 1.5 and 1.6. Does this mean if I update the SVN - server from 1.5.6 to 1.6 I can expext some improvements when merging, or does this depend on the client (which is 1.6.11)?

• Help constructing query - Compare columns and replace numbers

  I have a feeling that this query is pretty easy to construct, I just can't figure it out. I want to replace all numbers in table X column C, with numbers in table Z column A, where numbers from table X column C matches numbers in table Z column B. I hope that makes sense. Perhaps a little background information will make it clearer. I've converted from one CMS to another, and the module I used to convert mapped the ids to the new database. Table X column A is the new id's. Table X column B is the old id's. Table Z is the table for an image gallery that I migrated, and column C contains the id's of the images owners. Can anyone crack this nut?

• Random walk- Brownian Motion

  I've been assigned the project of creating a simple console app. that models brownian motion in a 2D plane. I wasn't given much information on how to do so (and I'm hoping that it's a pretty popular assignment so that I could get some insight) just that it relies on random number generation. I researched brownian motion for a little bit and saw some formulas that looked complicated, but by the description is just seems to have to move randomly within a certain number interval. Can anyone clarify? Am I to create a program that continually creates a random number in an interval and then modify the particles "x" and "y" coordinate or is there more to it? Thanks for any help.

• Accessing hard-coded data in a C# application.

  I'm trying to avaid hardcoding in a .net 2.0 soon to be 3.5 application. I have a large enumneration which I wish to map 1 to 1 to a set of strings. Each enumerated value will also map to 1 of 2 values indicating an action. The existing code does this with a big switch statement but this seems ugly to me. Is there a better way of storing and accessing the data? I've thought about resx files but when you consider that the designer file contains just as many hardcoded values it seems a little pointless. Is embedding an xml file in the assembly a good idea? Is a big switch statement not as bad as it seems? Is there a better solution?

• What things can I teach a group of children about programming in one day?

  I'm running a day for 30 kids aged 11-18 about computer game programming. They have all opted to do it, but they have no experience at all of programming. My main aim is for them to learn a few things: programming is hard/challenging programming is something they can learn to do being a computer games programmer != playing games all day a little more insight into how games actually work I'd thought of splitting them into two groups, of younger/less experience and older/more experience, then doing slightly different things. I'd considered showing them Scratch, Game Maker, before showing them the basics of Python and getting them to write a simple text based game (perhaps something like, computer picks a random number, you have to guess it in as few guesses as possible, computer says higher/lower for each guess). Does anyone have any ideas of things to do/show them/ways to teach them?

• Robust Way of Selecting All Text in Textbox

  I'm trying to have the content of the an HTML textbox be selected fully onFocus. I know the simple solution of putting a onfocus="this.select()" on the component but this is not a good solution because if a user double clicks into the area the selection is lost and in browsers like chrome it is rarely working like it should and just reverts into input form. I have searched on Google for a little while and can't find a good solution, most suggestions are of this simple solution. What I would like it is that the selection inside the textbox not change once selected and if possible the user should not be able to edit the content of the textbox, for example if you have used AdSense when you grab code from AdSense the selection never changes and your unable to alter the code in the textbox. Any solutions would be appreciated.

• What format is your documentation in?

  I am going to be writing documentation for two web services that I developed, and I started wondering what people on here do for documentation. Do you create it in an HTML file so it can be viewed in the browser? Word document? Wiki? What do you guys/gals use? I was originally leaning towards creating an HTML page since it seems a little more open and friendly than a word document. Plus I can use the prettify javascript to make code samples look nice. Our company has a Sharepoint though, so an HTML file may not be the best choice given that most documentation is put up in spreadsheets and word documents.

• Would dropping X altogether hurt ?

  Hi, I live in the linux terminal all the time under my slackware GNU/linux system (an EeePC). By default, GNU Emacs won't start if It can't find several Xorg libraries. Assuming I will never use X software at all, would it make sense for me to drop all this Xorg stuff and compile emacs again ? Are you aware of anything that could get me into troubles or making GNU Emacs not working at all ? Are there any advantage for me to keep all these dependencies ? I am asking since as said, my main box is an eeepc with little storage and I am dangerously hitting the limits ;-) Regards

• Password protect web pages on Windows CE 6

  I am using the default web server for WinCE 6 and wish to password protect certain folders. The default VROOT /remoteadmin/ is password protected, and this works but my configuration doesn't work. I have tried mimicking these settings on my own folders but to little success. Here is how one looks: In the HKLM\Comm\HTTPD\VROOTS key I have created a subkey called /web/configuration (this folder actually exists on the box). The following values are in this key A = 1 DefaultPage = config.html Path = /hard disk/webroot/web/configuration/ UserList = ADMIN This is nigh on identical to the settings in /RemoteAdmin/ but /RemoteAdmin/ requests a password and /web/configuration doesn't (even after reboot).

  I want to implement a Set in C. Is it OK to use a linked list, when creating the SET, or should I use another approach ? How do you usually implement your own set (if needed).   I'm just starting to learn F# using VS2010 and below is my first attempt at generating the Fibonacci series. What I'm trying to do is to build a list of all numbers less than 400. let fabList = let l = [1;2;] let mutable a = 1 let mutable b = 2 while l.Tail < 400 do let c = a + b l.Add(c) let a = b let b = c My first problem is that on the last statement, I'm getting an error message "Incomplete structured construct at or before this point in expression" on the last line. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong here. While this seems to be an obvious way to build the list in a fairly efficient way (from a c++/C# programmer), from what little I know of f#, this doesn't seem to feel to be the right way to do the program. Am I correct in this feeling?

• Can I learn the iPhone SDK and complete an app by September?

  Hi everyone, I'm wondering if it's realistically possible to learn the iPhone SDK and complete an app by the end of this summer. The app shouldn't be too difficult, it would just interact with my site's API and essentially just fetch, create, and edit resources. I already have a little experience with the SDK (and I'm comfortable with Objective-C), so I'm not completely new to it. Although here I things I don't know how to do and what I'd need to learn: Log in to my site using basic http authentication and store the user's username/password for all future requests Implement a toolbar at the bottom to navigate between different views Fetch and parse xml into list items Do POST/PUT requests to create/edit a resource on my server Are there any good resources available to learn how to do those tasks above?   I'm having some difficulties with the following problem: I'm making a little game where you're at a specific spot and each spot has each some possible directions. The available directions are N(ord),E(ast),S,W . I use the function getPosDirections to get the possible directions of that spot. The function returns the directions into an ArrayList<String> e.g. for spot J3: [E,W] Now the game goes like this: 2 dice will be rolled so you get a number between 2 and 12, this number represents the number of steps you can make. What I want is an ArrayList of all the possible routes e.g.: I throw 3 and I'm currently at spot J3: [[E,N,E],[E,N,S],[E,S,E],[E,S,S],[W,N,E],[W,N,S],[W,S,E],[W,S,S]] How would obtain the last mentioned Array(list)?

• UITableView animations for a "lazy" UI design?

  I have a UITableViewController that allows the user to perform editing tasks. Now, once a user has committed his change, the table view doesn't directly change the model and updates the table, rather "informs" the model what the user wants to do. The model in turn updates accordingly and then posts a notification that it has been changed. As far as I've seen, I need to begin/end updates on the tableview and in between change the model to its' final form. My changes though, are asynchronous and cannot guarantee to update the model before 'tableview endupdates' is called. Currently, each time I receive a 'model did change' notificaiton, I reload the entire table. So, how can I really make cell animations (delete/insert) work? Should the model fire a notification for each little change instead of the entire table?

  I have a table (3x3) that counts "< /form" as space in IE. The code for 1 td looks like: <style type="text/css"> table { border-width: 0px; border-collapse: collapse; padding: 0px; } td, th { padding: 0px; } </style> <table><tr><td><form name="form" action="index.php" method="post"><input type="hidden" name="from" value="a" /><input type="image" src="pic1.gif" alt="1" name="submit" value="submit" /></form></td> There is no spaces anywhere outside the tags. Inside the td, there is a form, with a hidden field and a picture. Firefox shows only the picture, but IE has spaces between the rows. I did a little debugging, and found it was from the /form. Does anyone know a fix to this?

• SQL Query, return value from table with no join

  I'm hoping for an idea on the best way to approach what I'm trying to do. I have a table with a list of transactions. Each transactions has a PostDate in DateTime format. I have another table holding the fiscal period values. This table has the following columns; FiscalYear, FiscalMonth, StartDate, EndDate. I'm trying to write a query that will return all values from my transactions table, along with the FiscalYear and FiscalMonth of the PostDate. So I guess I'm just trying to return the FiscalYear and FiscalMonth values when the PostDate falls between the StartDate and EndDate. I've tried using a Subbuery, but I have little experience with them and kept returning an error message that the subquery was returning more than 1 value. • Is JSONRequest a global Javascript object ?

  My goal is to asynchronously call a URL via POST request (REST Webservice) to increment a statistic on one of my object. I am a newby web developper and I discovered JSON yesterday. Since JSON seems a lot popular and handy I went to www.json.org and discovered a JSONRequest object which seems to able one to send POST/GET request asynchronously but I can't get it work. Is it a global Javascript object or do I need to add some files ? I am a little bit confused since I've found a Firefox plugin extension for JSONRequest but I don't understand its purpose.

• Porting Windows C++ to Standard (Linux) C++ - WSAGetLastError()

  I am currently porting some Windows mobile C++ code to standard C++. So I am trying to find alternatives for windows specific functions. I have had very little luck in finding a standard C++ function that can help me replace the WSAGetLastError() windows specific function. WSAGetLastError() returns error numbers for errors that occur with sockets in windows. So I was wondering if anyone was aware of a way to replace this function in standard c++? A way to get different error numbers for different outcomes of connecting/dissconection a socket would be sufficent.

• Good Notification Plugin For Jquery?

  Hi I am looking at pines notify(http://pines.sourceforge.net/pnotify/) and it looks good but it seems to have little actual documentation so I am wondering is there anything more established and worked on out there? Like I don't want to spend time trying to figure out how to use pines and then find out it is missing some feature that I needed a few months later that I needed to change to a different plugin. This happened to me with tablesorter 2.0 I was using it then I needed the filtering but theirs kinda sucked so I found datatables what had such a bigger api and developed more. So I am wondering if there is something like datatables(in terms of development and features) just for notifications instead.

  I had assumed that the canonical form for operator+, assuming the existence of an overloaded operator+= member function, was like this: const T operator+(const T& lhs, const T& rhs) { return T(lhs) +=rhs; } But it was pointed out to me that this would also work: const T operator+ (T lhs, const T& rhs) { return lhs+=rhs; } In essence, this form transfers creation of the temporary from the body of the implementation to the function call. It seems a little awkward to have different types for the two parameters, but is there anything wrong with the second form? Is there a reason to prefer one over the other?
