• Wordpress custom pages CMS

  Hi guys, I'm considering Wordpress as my CMS platform for a client site I'm doing at the moment. However, I need to create a couple of custom 'modules'. One of these modules is a form that people will be able to complete and have a quote, and once submitted, in a special place in the Wordpress panel (like a menu or something), there will be a listing of all the submitted quotes (just fetching it from a table in my database). Another one is to manage a cafeteria menu, so the client can add a different meal to each day of the week. I know perfectly how to do this kind of things using some kind of MVC framework and doing it 'by-hand', but I'm just wondering if this would be possible to do with WP and if yes, what kind of tools I'll have to use. • Active C++ project to contribute to

  I am a self-taught c++/java programmer (I will be starting uni in August though!). I have worked on one project in which I was part of an active team. I really felt I learnt the most and gained a lot of experience while working with the team. Unfortunately it was a small closed source project which has recently taken a slumber. I'm looking for some active open source c++ projects which I could contribute to (preferably that are mainly developed on the linux platform). The other project I worked on was a video game, however, I would like to contribute to a project which has a functional purpose (other than to amuse). Any suggestions on possible projects?

• UITableView via NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate, select first record by default?

  I have a UITableView that gets populated from CoreData via a controller that implements NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate. How can I have it automatically select the first row (and fire the tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath message)? The tableview is used for a variety of predicate queries, so I'm suspicious of solutions that work on the UIViewController lifecycle (viewDidLoad, etc), but I'm new to the platform, so I'm open. I've tried a variety of things, but I'm not sure where in the call stack to put it. I've tried calling cell.selected = true inside tableView:cellForRowAtIndex: method, but that just ends up turning the cell black (and doesn't fire the selected callback method) A tagent question, with all the delegating and core data protocols, does it imply asynchronous data fetch (multiple threads)? Or is the NSFetchedResultsController calling all its related methods in the same thread? Maybe I'm just scared that if it is async, there would be race conditions that would be tough to troubleshoot later.

• How to get debugging statements for Android in Eclipse

  I've read the lame documentation, and checked other answers. I'd like my Android app to print some debug statements in the logcat window of Eclispe. If I use the isLoggable method on the various types of debug levels on the Log class, I find that WARN and INFO are returning true. Log.w, and Log.i do not produce any output. Does anyone know which gotchas I've missed? And just to vent, why should this be hard? I've published apps for iphone and bberry and while appreciate the use of java, the platform is reeking of too many "genuiuses" being involved. I suppose Activities and Intents are very flexible, but why? I just want to put up some screens, take some input and show some results. The bberry pushscreen and popscreen is a lot less pretentious. • Is it possible to change a exe's icon without recompiling it?

  Hi all, I have lot of executable that I have compiled (long time back) for many of which I don't have sourcecode now. But when I compiled them I didn't put any icons for them, so they all look like same dull, bald default icon. So my questions are, (1) is it possible for me to write a software that can change the resources section of the exe and change its looks? If so, can anyone plz point me to the location where its explained? (I am a beginner, I have no idea on the exe format and all) Also its fun to keep changing Icons without having the pain of recompiling everything just for the icon change... (2) This is raises a natural converse question, Is it similarly possible to zap out the icon used by some file and use it for some other file?   first off, is there a such thing as a random access random number generator, where you could not only sequentially generate random numbers as we're all used to, assuming rand100() always generates a value from 0-100: for (int i=0;i<5;i++) print rand100() output: 14 75 36 22 67 but also randomly access any random value like: rand100(0) would output 14 as long as you didn't change the seed rand100(3) would always output 22 rand100(4) would always output 67 and so on... I've actually found an open-source generator algorithm that does this, but you cannot change the seed. I know that pseudorandomness is a complex field; I wouldn't know how to alter it to add that functionality. Is there a seedable random access random number generator, preferably open source? or is there a better term for this I can google for more information? if not, part 2 of my question would be, is there any reliably random open source conventional seedable pseudorandom number generator so I could port it to multiple platforms/languages while retaining a consistent sequence of values for each platform for any given seed?

  Hi I've been trying to create a GUI using netbeans, that includes a dialog similar to Netbean's own "property dialog" that appears when designing. ie. a dialog that contains a table that can be expanded by tree nodes. Something like the dialog on this page, http://platform.netbeans.org/tutorials/nbm-property-editors.html As far as I can understand, the page I linked to describes a custom editor I can set up for use within netbeans while designing - I'm just looking for a way to doing something similar for my actual application I'm writing. Is there an easy way to do this? • Connecting to TFS from iPhone

  Hi. I'm building this iPhone application to connect to a secured TFS server (one that requires authentication before letting you access its web services). When I access this server in a browser, the first thing it will do is ask me for credentials (username/password) and then connect me to the TFS server if those credentials are correct. I am using web services, as I don't think there is any other way to use TFS functionality for an outside platform...without changing stuff on the TFS host machine. So my questions are: Are there any web services that can be accessed to log into the TFS server? This authentication mechanism seems to be something common among multiple websites (I have seen it in other websites). Is there a way to replicate that authentication mechanism by sending an HTTP request? Is there a way to replicate this authentication procedure in any way? Thanks!

• Obfuscate strings in Python

  I have a password string that must be passed to a method. Everything works fine but I don't feel comfortable storing the password in clear text. Is there a way to obfuscate the string or to truly encrypt it? I'm aware that obfuscation can be reverse engineered, but I think I should at least try to cover up the password a bit. At the very least it wont be visible to a indexing program, or a stray eye giving a quick look at my code. I am aware of pyobfuscate but I don't want the whole program obfuscated, just one string and possibly the whole line itself where the variable is defined. Target platform is GNU Linux Generic (If that makes a difference)

The ajax request works fine when the web app is running stand alone and out of facebook platform, but within facebook, the result that I get from my ajax request is blank !!! Here are the requirements: HTML front end (best if it's cross-browser friendly) Web deployable, but also ideally want to be able to install as standalone on a desktop SQL Server database Ideally, would like to use a good (and easy) AJAX toolkit with widgets Ideally, would like to be able to write in ASP.Net but later (or concurrently) also write in Java. This is a big concern, as I would like to not have to rewrite the whole thing. Is there a toolkit I can use that makes this cross-platform requirement easier? • Very slow Eclipse 4.2, how to make it more responsive?

  I'm using Eclipse PDT on a rather large PHP project and the IDE is almost unusable. It takes nearly 30 seconds to open a file, and other actions, like selecting a folder in the file explorer, editing some text, etc. are equally slow. I followed various instructions to speed it up but nothing seems to work. This is my current eclipse.ini file. • Debug IPhone App on 3.1.2 Phone

  Hello, I recently finished my first IPhone app and want to test it on my device now. I registered (and paid) for an Developer Account and managed to install the required certificates. Unfortunately my device is on firmware 3.1.2 (which I don't want to upgrade). My SDK only shows 3.1.3 as possible Target. As a result it can't be installed on my 3.1.2 device. Where can I set/change to target platform ? Otherwise my App would only run on the newest firmwares, right ? Instead I want to provide it to every User with OS 3.0

• How do I set up derby in eclipse on Ubuntu?

  The question basically says it all. I'm trying setup up JavaDB on my virtualbox running Ubuntu 9.10. I have the package downloaded and installed through the package manager, which I believe is the right to go about it. I have also installed the Eclipse's Data Platform Tools. I've been following this tutorial here: http://www.vogella.de/articles/EclipseDataToolsPlatform/article.html. I'm stuck at the driver definition step. When I select the driver template from the Name/Type tab and the jar file in the Jar List tab, the OK button is never enabled. At the top of the New Driver Definition dialog it says 'Unable to locate Jar/zip in the file system as specified by the driver definition: derby.jar.' I assume this is the problem. Any help or links to a better tutorial would be much appreciated.

• Cross-compiling a Python script on Linux into a Windows executable

  I have a Python script that I'd like to compile into a Windows executable. Now, py2exe works fine from Windows, but I'd like to be able to run this from Linux. I do have Windows on my development machine, but Linux is my primary dev platform and I'm getting kind of sick of rebooting into Windows just to create the .exe. Any ideas? PS: I am aware that py2exe doesn't exactly compile the python file as much as package your script with the Python interpreter. But either way, the result is that you don't need Python installed to run the script.

• Windows threading: _beginthread vs _beginthreadex vs CreateThread C++

  What's a better way to start a thread? I'm trying to determine what are the advantages/disadvantages of _beginthread, _beginthreadex and CreateThread. All of these functions return a thread handle to a newly created thread, I already know that CreateThread provides a little extra information when an error occurs (it can be checked by calling GetLastError)... but what are some things I should consider when I'm using these functions? I'm working with a windows application, so cross-platform computability is already out of the question. I have gone through the msdn documentation and I just can't understand, for example, why anybody would decide to use _beginthread instead of CreateThread or vice versa. Cheers! Update: OK, thanks for all the info, I've also read in a couple of places that I can't call WaitForSingleObject() if I used _beginthread(), but if I call _endthread() in the thread shouldn't that work? What's the deal there?

• How can I do a partial update (i.e., get isolated changesets) from subversion with subclipse?

  If a file is committed several times with various changes, how can I fetch one change at a time, i.e., one changeset at a time? I use eclipse, subversion, and subclipse, and I can't change the former two for the time being (or the MS platform..). In my list/ overview a file seems to be listed only in the latest relevant changeset even if all changesets are listed. So an earlier changeset doesn't necessarily show the full set of files in the original commit, nor the original diff for a file in a commit. Update: I'm thinking about using changesets for simplified peer review, so I'd like the partial update represented for all the files commited in one changeset. It's easy to get diffs and specific revisions for specific files in eclipse, but I'd like to step through all the changes in one specific commit/ changeset in a practical manner.

• Efficiency of while(true) ServerSocket Listen

  I am wondering if a typical while(true) ServerSocket listen loop takes an entire core to wait and accept a client connection (Even when implementing runnable and using Thread .start()) I am implementing a type of distributed computing cluster and each computer needs every core it has for computation. A Master node needs to communicate with these computers (invoking static methods that modify the algorithm's functioning). The reason I need to use sockets is due to the cross platform / cross language capabilities. In some cases, PHP will be invoking these java static methods. I used a java profiler (YourKit) and I can see my running ServerSocket listen thread and it never sleeps and it's always running. Is there a better approach to do what I want? Or, will the performance hit be negligible? Please, feel free to offer any suggestion if you can think of a better way (I've tried RMI, but it isn't supported cross-language. Thanks everyone

  Hi, If we had the possibility to run GAE app without any code change on our servlet engine that would be great because: in case that google changes their billing policy we can just jump to our own server or in case their current policy doesn't fit our app needs we can do stuff which is not allowed in the GAE, compromising a 1 JVM, 1 DB We don't actually need a distributed system but more of a realtime system with synchronize, true locking mechanisms, other servers/software installed on the server machine, socket interface etc... Such a package should include at least: TomCat (or equivalent) DataNucleus Access Platform (Task Queue service) Any idea if it's easy to get such a thing or if it's already exist somewhere? Thanks

• C# Assembly Xna.Framework.dll does not load

  When trying to load Microsoft.Xna.Framework.dll from any project, it throws a FileNotFoundException. The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E), with no innerException. Even the simple code like the following throws that exception: static void Main(string[] args) { Assembly.LoadFile(@"C:\Microsoft.Xna.Framework.dll"); } I run XP x64, but I've set the platform in the configuration manager to x86, because I know it shouldn't(doesn't) work on x64 or Any CPU. I've manually added the dll file to GAC, but that didn't solve the problem. I have also tried the M$ Assembly Binding Log Viewer to see if those logs had any useful information, but they didn't. Everything, the loading etc, was a success according to them. Any suggestions? please?
