  Are there any (free preferably) XML Editors combined with FTP and file-tree browsing Project wide find+Replace I.e A bit like what Dreamweaver MX is but with fancier XML capabilities /XSLT /XSD Perhaps even DW does this...im still on an older version. I'd like to keep a smooth flow between find-edit-view-upload any ideas? Background: I have converted most of the html files of my legacy site into XML (which match the directory structure of my 'public docs' folder). Part of a step towards turning it into completely dynamic data via MVC /Front Controller Pattern.

• CodeIgniter URI segments captured as variables?

  well, i have a function within a controller called test, and i can access it by going to http://localhost/nwk/control/test this is my function. I want to use the data given in the next segment from the "test" as a php variable. so if i put function test() { $var $this->uri->segment(3); echo $var; } according to the user guide if I enter control/test/data, my variable should be equal to 'data'? doesn't seem to be working. Am I missing something here?

  Howdy, Im adding the filevistacontrol to my asp.net MVC web application. I have a media.aspx page that is ignored in the routing with routes.IgnoreRoute("media.aspx"); This works successfully and serves a standard webforms page. Upon adding the filevistacontrol, I can't seem to ignore any calls the control makes to it's webservice. Eg the following ignoreRoute still seems to get picked up by the MvcHandler. routes.IgnoreRoute("FileVistaControl/filevista.asmx/GetLanguageFile/"); The exception thrown is: 'The RouteData must contain an item named 'controller' with a non-empty string value' Thanks in advance.

• How to integrate "basic" website into Zend Framework

  Hi guys, I have a website that has around 10 pages. Only one of those pages uses Zend (to integrate with Google gData). Right now, it's just all coded into that one page, but I'm wanting to learn how to use Zend Framework. How do you handle basic-relatively static php pages within Zend Framework? Do you just stick the whole individual pages into their own respective views and then have to common stuff in the layout, and not worry about a model and controller for those pages? in general, is MVC accepted and appropriate technology for general "web-design" work?

• How do you keep Cocoa controllers from getting too big?

  Hello! Do you have some tricks or techniques to break Cocoa controller classes into smaller chunks? I find that whatever I do the controllers end up being one of the more complicated classes in my design. The basic stuff is simple, but once I have several pop-overs or action sheets running, things get uncomfortably complex. It's not that bad, but still I would like to refactor the code into several standalone chunks. I thought about categories, but the code is not that independent (a lot of times it needs to tap into viewWillAppear, for example) and I find that I spend a long time fighting the compiler. I also thought about adding functionality in layers using inheritance, but that feels like a hack.

  I am pretty new to rails and basically I want to make a user registration form. I am currently using rails 3.2.3 Basically I want to make basic routes like user/register on top of basic REST route for user. Here are my routes.rb resources :user do collection do get 'register' end end And here are my rake routes: register_user_index GET /user/register(.:format) user#register user_index GET /user(.:format) user#index POST /user(.:format) user#create new_user GET /user/new(.:format) user#new edit_user GET /user/:id/edit(.:format) user#edit user GET /user/:id(.:format) user#show PUT /user/:id(.:format) user#update DELETE /user/:id(.:format) user#destroy From my understanding, since register user is on top of show, it should match with register first before going to show. However, when I try to do localhost:3000/user/register, it gives me this error: No route matches {:action="show", :controller="user"} Can somebody help me with this? Thanks!!

  I have need to call a webservice from an HTML helper extension I created (combinbation of Action and Image) and placed in the view as follows @Html.ActionImage("CallService", new { number = ViewBag.number, code = ViewBag.code, account = ViewBag.account, amount = ViewBag.amount }, "~/Content/sb_200x61.png", "Start the Process") I am making the action call and it calls the service and returns a string of the html response, but it doesn't look right. I am using the typical HttpWebRequest to do the POST Action in C# code. Here is the controller action code: public MvcHtmlString CallService(string number, string code, string account, decimal? amount) { string response = MyService.ServiceLayer.ClassName.callService(number, code, account, Convert.ToDecimal(amount); MvcHtmlString mstring = new MvcHtmlString(response); return mstring; } When it returns the string back it's looking like the all styling and js is removed. It that due to MvcHtmlString? Is there a better way to do this? Redirect somehow ?

And also,if I use servlet as a controller and JSP as a view,what would be the responsibility of servlet and jsp in this process?Should servlet just read the whole XML file and then just pass the read output to JSP which will just print it and render properly using XSL for example?   I am trying to implement orientation change functionality in my application.I have overrided -(void) didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)fromInterfaceOrientation. In this method i change the frame size of the tableview(including the position of the cell items) which is present in the view. The tableview Details: Added to the view as [self.view addSubView:tableView] in the viewDidLoad method of the view controller; Cell item (row) has a textfield and a segmented control. There are 10 cells in the table view and in landscape mode only 2 cells are visible and in potrait mode 5 cells are visible. I have implemented scroller. Issue: Certain times on changing the orientation to potrait mode certain segmented controls in the cell are not rendered (Not shown at all). This happens when i am viewing the last couple of cells in the landscape mode and i change the orientation to potrait mode.

  I am creating my navigation from a db generated array and defining which route to use for some of the uris. when I set the route i am no longer able to use findByUri() as the uri seems to be moved under the properties key example array being used: [id] => 7 [label] => Legal [controller] => index [uri] => /legal [route] => cmsPage [visible] => 1 [params] => Array ( [first] => legal ) snippet of the output: [_properties:protected] => Array ( [uri] => /legal [created] => 2012-10-20 10:23:23 ) When I don't define the route I am able to use findByUri() successfully. currently I am looping through each to find the property that matches the request but it seems a long / wrong approach Is there a way to search by the nested param - or am i doing something wrong with the setup (everything else behaves as expected)

  Hey guys, I'm trying to validate a model object outside of the context of ModelState within a controller, I currently have a parser that creates model objects from an excel file and I want to be able to report how many entries were added to the database and how many failed, is there a way to validate a model object on its data annotations outside of model binding? I'm looking for something similar to the rails model method of model.valid? or a way for me to implement that myself. My current solution is just manually checking if a few key fields are present but this duplicates requirements between my model class and its metadata, there has to be a better way to hook into the model validation checking that is done by mvc 2. An optional parameter must be a reference type, a nullable type, or be declared as an optional parameter. Parameter name: parameters This does not work. Throws the error mentioned above http://mysite/User/Profile/15 This works http://mysite/User/Profile/?UserID=15 The Controller Action public ActionResult Profile(long UserID) { } When I changed the parameter name to Id it works. I think it's because Id was specified in the route collection (Global.asax). Is it possible to tell MVC that UserId should map to Id without changing it in the Global.asax

  I've subclassed MKAnnotation so that i can assign objects to annotations and then assign this object to a view controller like so: - (void)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView annotationView:(MKAnnotationView *)view calloutAccessoryControlTapped:(UIControl *)control { PlaceDetailView *detailView = [[PlaceDetailView alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; detailView.place = [view.annotation place]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:detailView animated:YES]; [detailView release]; } This is working great but i'm having the following issues: If i try and access the place getter method like so view.annotation.place i recieve an error: Accessing unknown place getter method If i acces the place getter method like so [view.annotation place] i receive a warning: place not found in protocol From my understanding this is because the place object is not defined in the MKAnnotation protocol, although i'm aware of this i'm not sure how to tell the complier that place does exist and it's not calling it blind.

• UINavigationController shows blank view

  I am making a simple navigation based application that drills down one level and show a new xib file each time. When I drill down one level my screen shows up blank. I still have the navigation controller at the top with a back button but my view dosent load. • trying to set a dropdown in MVC

  I almost have this solved but need a little push. Here's what I have: In the database I have a field called active that is a bit field (True/False) I have placed a dropdownlist on the View form like this: <%= Html.DropDownList("lstActive", new SelectList((IEnumerable)ViewData["ActiveList"])) %> In my controller, I simply have this code to generate the True/False in the dropdown: List<string> activeList = new List<string>(); activeList.Add("True"); activeList.Add("False"); ViewData["ActiveList"] = new SelectList(activeList); I want to bind to the field in the database called active and select it in the dropdown. When I view it like this I get this: So the questions are these: Obviously I am not pointing to the Value and Text property but what is that in this case? • What is the most elegant way to access current_user from the models? or why is it a bad idea?

  So, I've implemented some permissions between my users and the objects the users modify.. and I would like to lessen the coupling between the views/controllers with the models (calling said permissions). To do that, I had an idea: Implementing some of the permission functionality in the before_save / before_create / before_destroy callbacks. But since the permissions are tied to users (current_user.can_do_whatever?), I didn't know what to do. This idea may even increase coupling, as current_user is specifically controller-level. The reason why I initially wanted to do this is: All over my controllers, I'm having to check if a user has the ability to save / create / destroy. So, why not just return false upon save / create / destroy like rails' .save already does, and add an error to the model object and return false, just like rails' validations? Idk, is this good or bad? is there a better way to do this?

  my application has a UIViewController subclass which is being managed by a UINavigationController. In the viewDidLoad of my UIViewController subclass, I was attempting to add a UIBarButtonItem to the toolbar like this: settingsButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"Settings" style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:self action:@selector(viewSettings:)]; [self setToolbarItems:[NSArray arrayWithObject:settingsButton]]; this wasn't working out for me, so after some googling around, I tried this: [[self navigationItem] setRightBarButtonItem:settingsButton]; which worked out fine. from reading the UIViewController documentation, I'm still confused about why setToolbarItems wasn't working. I verified in the debugger that the button was in the toolbarItems array in the viewDidAppear method. the button itself just wasn't appearing on my toolbar. so, my question is, why didn't setToolbarItems work for me in the first code snippet? I don't have the toolbar configured in my xib for this view controller at all, if that makes a difference.

  I need to take a particular action if a user logs in from the home page. In my LogOnModel, I have a hidden field: @Html.Hidden("returnUrl", Request.Url.AbsoluteUri) In my Controller, I need to check if that value is the Home page or not. In the example below, I'm checking to see if the user is on a particular page ("Account/ResetPassword"). Is there a way to check to see if they're on the home page without resorting to regular expressions? However it has been obsolete for some time. Although I can still use it as a plugin, I'm interested if anyone has a better approach. • Ruby on Rails ActiveScaffold: Showing {{model}} instead of model name?

  Hi there, I'm using ActiveScaffold with Ruby on Rails and I'm loving it, however there is one weird thing. Whenever I hit "Edit" or "Create New" in my webapp's ActiveScaffold, it says "Create {{model}}" or "Update {{model}}" in the webapp rather than using the model's name. Why is this? • show activity indicator while loading ViewController

  I have a ViewController that takes time to load its views. When I run Instruments, I see from the home screen, if I tap on the icon that pushes that view controller onto the stack, it's half laying out the views, and half getting the data for the views. I tried adding an activity indicator to display on the home screen over the button when the button is pressed to push the LongRunningViewController onto the stack.
