  Hi I want to expire a cached action and wondered how to generate the correct reference. #controller caches_action :index, :layout => false #generates this fragment which works fine views/0.0.0.0:3000/article/someid/posts #sweeper ... expire_action article_posts_path(:article_id => post.article) # results in this Expired fragment: views//en/article/someid/posts (0.0ms) So this is almost ok, except the host is missing. What do I do that supplies this to the expire_action method? Thanks in advance.

• Human readable URL causes a problem in Ruby on Rails

  I have a basic CRUD with "Company" model. To make the company name show up, I did def to_param name.parameterize end Then I accessed http://localhost:3000/companies/american-express which runs show action in the companies controller. Obviously this doesn't work because the show method is as following: def show @company = Company.find_by_id(params[:id]) end The params[:id] is american-express. This string is not stored anywhere. Do I need to store the short string (i.e., "american-express") in the database when I save the record? Or is there any way to retrieve the company data without saving the string in the database?

• Obtain the pathName dynamically for ASP.NET MVC

  Hello, I'm looking for a solution that allows me to get the parent page pathname from a partialView invoked. For example I have an Action baa and a controller boo so the javascript to obtain this will be window.location.pathname, and it returns /boo/baa. The thing is that I use a partial view, so when I try to retrieve the pathname via the URL helper, what I obtain is the PartialView one, and what I need is the pathname for the action that invokes it. I want to do this because I want to show certain things of the partial view depending on the pathname of the parent view that invokes it. Is there a way to do this with ASP.NET MVC?   What is the "Rails-way" or the "Ruby-way" of doing the following: In my controller, I'm creating and instance of an Options class. It will be initialized with information in the params hash if the params hash exists. Otherwise, it will check the sessions hash for the information. Finally, it will initialize with defaults if neither params nor session has the data it needs. Here is how I'm doing it now (it works fine, but it seems a little ugly): if params[:cust_options] @options = CustomOptions.new( params[:cust_options] ) else if session[:cust_options @options = CustomOptions.new( session[:cust_options] ) else @options = CustomOptions.new end end session[:cust_options] = @options.to_hash Like I said, everything is working fine, I'm just looking for a more idiomatically Ruby way of writing this block of code.

• ASP.NET/IIS: Tell IIS do not check for file existence

  In my Global.asax.cs, I have: routes.MapRoute("AssetCss", "css/{*path}", new { controller = "Asset", action = "Index" }); I also have this in a view: <link href="/css/Root/index.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> The problem is that the AssetController does not invoke Index when /css/Root/index.css is requested. This is because a file actually exists at the path /css/Root/index.css. If I recall correctly, there's a checkbox setting in IIS that basically says "Do not check that a file actually exists at the request path [instead, let the RouteTable handle it]." (At least there is in IIS 6.) Is there something I can put in my Web.config that sets this IIS setting to true? How do I tell IIS to let my MVC routes handle the path even if a file exists at the path?

• Simple rails routing / url question

  I'm using Ryan Bates' nifty authentication in my application for user signup and login. Each user has_many :widgets, but I'd like to allow users to browse other users' widgets. I'm thinking that a url scheme like /username/widgets/widget_id would make a lot of sense--it would keep all widget-related code in the same place (the widgets controller). However, I'm not sure how to use this style of URL in my app. Right now my codebase is such that it permits logged-in users to browse only their own widgets, which live at /widgets/widget_id. What changes would I need to make to routes.rb, my models classes, and any place where links to a given widget are needed? I've done Rails work before but am a newb when it comes to more complicated routing, etc, so I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks for your consideration!

  I'm trying to call the 'tariff' action of my 'countries' controller using jQuery ajax() and pass it a country name in the following format: /countries/tariff/countryname however, with the following code ( set to GET ), it is calling this with the get '?' added: /countries/tariff/?countryname $(document).ready(function(){ $('#CountriesIndexForm select').change(function(){ $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "/countries/tariff/", data: escape($(this).val()), success: function(html){ $(this).parent().next('div').html(html); } }); }); }); I understand its because the type: is set to GET, but is there a fix for this?

• Delegates vs. events in Cocoa

  I'm writing my first iPhone app, and I've been exploring the design patterns in Cocoa and Objective-C. I come from a background of client-side web development, so I'm trying to wrap my head around delegates. Specifically, I don't see why delegate objects are needed instead of event handlers. For instance, when the user presses a button, it is handled with an event (UITouchUpInside), but when the user finishes inputting to a text box and closes it with the 'Done' button, the action is handled by calling a method on the text box's delegate (textFieldShouldReturn). Why use a delegate method instead of an event? I also notice this in the view controller with the viewDidLoad method. Why not just use events?

• How can I separate error_messages from two forms on one page?

  I have two forms in one view updating the User Profile. One Form is to Update my name etc. and one is to change my password. Profile Form: - form_for @user, :url => account_path do |f| = f.error_messages ...form fields here... Password Form: - form_for @user, :url => account_path do |pf| = pf.error_messages ...password fields here... As you can see they both point to the same update action in the users controller. If I type in a invalid password both error_messages show me the same error message. How can I output separate error messages per form?

  created the first rails app! excinting! for two weeks now I did Zombie, rubymonk etc. I love it! I used scaffold form url:string and included the gem share_counts. rails c: f = form.first ShareCounts.twitter f.url works! but... I have trouble to write the controller and the view! For you experienced railies this is probably a silly question, and probably only 5 lines of code, but for me thats a big step learning RoR! • Rails routing: how to mix "GET" and "PUT"

  Not sure how to frame this question (I'm still wrapping my head around Rails). Let's try this: Say I wanted to implement the user side of Ryan Bates' excellent railscast on nested models. (He shows how to implement a survey where you can add and remove questions and answers dynamically). I want the user's side of this: to be able to answer questions and, not in the tutorial, be able to add comments. It seems to me that you have to implement a view that shows the questions and answers, allow selection of the answers, and the input of comments. So there would need to be a way to show the information, but also update the model on input, right? I know I'm not explaining this very well. I hope you understand what I'm getting at. Is it just a question of setting up the right routes? Or is there some controller mojo that needs to happen?

As for my environment, here is the relevant portion of my Gemfile: group :test, :development do gem 'minitest-rails' end And the resulting portions of my Gemfile.lock: minitest (2.12.1) minitest-rails (0.0.7) minitest (~> 2.12) rails (~> 3.1) I am now in the process of debugging this. I would appreciate any tips. In any case, I will report back.

  Hi, I've added an attribute to a customer address entity. Attribute setup code is as follows- 'entity_type_id'=>$customer_address_type_id, 'attribute_code'=>'signature_required', 'backend_type'=>'int', 'frontend_input'=>'boolean', 'frontend_label' => 'Signature required', 'is_global' => '1', 'is_visible' => '1', 'is_required' => '0', 'is_user_defined' => '0', I have then - added attribute to model\entity\setup.php added a HTML field on the edit form I am now getting the attribute saved to the database when the checkbox is checked. However, it is not being unset when checkbox is unchecked (I'm guessing due to checkbox input not being 'post'-ed if unchecked. What is the best way to uncheck this? Should I add a default value of 0? Or unset/delete the attribute before save in the controller? Should I add get/set methods to the model?

• How can keep track of the index path of a button in a tableview cell?

  I have a table view where each cell has a button accessory view. The table is managed by a fatchedresults controller and is frequently reordered. I want to be able to press a button and be able to obtain the index path of the pressed button's tableviewcell. I've been trying to get this working for days by storing the row of the button in it's tag, but when the table get's reordered the row becomes incorrect and I keep failing at reordering the tags correctly when a change is made. Any new ideas on how to keep track of the button's cell's index path? Thanks so much for any help.

• MVC partial page update

  Hello, I have an MVC project where I have a form with fields a user can enter and save. On that same page I have a table which shows a brief listing of information that the user just saved. The problem I am having is trying to update only the table after a save and not an entire page refresh. Is this possible in jquery or MVC? If so does anyone have an example. • Can layouts be chosen by Grails controllers?

  I'm building a CMS as a learning exercise in Grails and would like to give content managers the ability to choose between different HTML page structures (e.g. 2 column, 3 column, etc). Grails Layouts seem like a logical choice but is it possible for a Grails controller to explicitly name which layout will be used for rendering? Ideally there would be a layout option to the render method, per Ruby on Rails but I don't see anything like it. It seems like it might be possible using the applyLayout method by passing the name of the layout but this requires each GSP page to explicitly request layout (annoying overhead per-page) rather than using Layout by Convention. Any ideas?

I would like to perform a search from projects controller that can do the following: FIND all DISTINCT Project.scedule WHERE Category.slug != 'uncategorised' Apologies for the syntax, I'm no sequel expert. What I have managed to do is to retrieve all projects that do not belong to Category uncategorised into an array however I'm not sure as to how to search again the array result for DISTINCT Project.schedule values (needed to fill out a form drop down) I hope I made myself clear.
