• A function's static and dynamic parent

  I'm reading Thinking in C++ (vol. 2): Whenever a function is called, information about that function is pushed onto the runtime stack in an activation record instance (ARI), also called a stack frame. A typical stack frame contains (1) the address of the calling function (so execution can return to it), (2) a pointer to the ARI of the function’s static parent (the scope that lexically contains the called function, so variables global to the function can be accessed), and (3) a pointer to the function that called it (its dynamic parent). The path that logically results from repetitively following the dynamic parent links is the dynamic chain, or call chain I'm unable to comprehend what the author means as function's static and dynamic parent. Also am not able to differentiate between item 1, 2 or 3. They all seem to be the same. Can someone please explain this passage to me?

• Drupal clean urls on custom page GET request.

  I have a drupal page (content type page) that should accept GET values using clean urls. I put the following code in the page body using the php code input format. <?php $uid = $_GET['uid']; $user = user_load($uid); print $user->name; ?> Now the following link http://www.example.com/mypath/?uid=5 results in user 5's name being displayed. Great. My question is: Can this be accomplished using clean urls such that going to http://www.example.com/mypath/5 has the same result? (Similar to using arguments in views)

• Is it possible to filter by conditions before paginating?

  I'm using ruby on rails 2.3.8 and will_paginate plugin. I've just noticed that if I write something like this: Announcement.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 10, :conditions => some_condition it will work. But, if I write something like this: announcements = Announcement.all :conditions => some_condition @ann = announcements.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 10 it won't recognize conditions. Maybe you're wondering "why would he want to do that?", well, it's a long story and I really need to first filter the conditions and then paginate the results.

• Kink detection in drawn polylines

  Users can sketch in my app using a very simple tool (move mouse while holding LMB). This results in a series of mousemove events and I record the cursor location at each event. The resulting polyline curve tends to be rather dense, with recorded points almost every other pixel. I'd like to smooth this pixelated polyline, but I don't want to smooth intended kinks. So how do I figure out where the kinks are? The image shows the recorded trail (red pixels) and the 'implied' shape as a human would understand it. People tend to slow down near corners, so there is usually even more noise here than on the straight bits.

  I am writing some Selenium tests and I need to be able to find an ancestor of a WebElement that I have already found.   For performance reason as suggested here, I am studying how to used the pr-compiled template. I edit hello.tmpl in template directory as #attr title = "This is my Template" \${title} Hello \${who}! then issued cheetah-compile.exe .\hello.tmpl and get the hello.py In another python file runner.py , i have !/usr/bin/env python from Cheetah.Template import Template from template import hello def myMethod(): tmpl = hello.hello(searchList=[{'who' : 'world'}]) results = tmpl.respond() print tmpl if name == 'main': myMethod() But the outcome is ${title} Hello ${who}! • Disassemble Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 compiler output

  I'm seeing what I think is strange behaviour from object files output by the Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 tools. The file utility tells me: asmfile.obj: 80386 COFF executable not stripped - version 30821 For objects created by the assembler, but for objects coming from C files, I get just: cfile.obj: data Using Microsoft's dumpbin utility and the objdump I got from cygwin, I can disassemble the assembly-built file, but I get no useful results from either utility for the C-built files. I have a couple of questions related to this difference: What is the object file format generated by the MSVC2003 compiler? How can I disassemble that object file? I am particularly interested in getting the disassembly in AT&T syntax - I'm doing a port of a large source base to make it work with GCC, and I would like to use this method as a shortcut for some of the inline assembly routines in the project. What I want to create is Iphone app which can view those classifieds. There will be no complicated function at first version. It will be have different categories and query and display according to the category. And if there's new classified ad, they will get push notification. What I want to know is, what should i go with ? Native or using phonegap ? Is phonegap supports push notification ? Is native app can just get the results through mysql ? or do i need to change it to sql lite ? Any speed different between native and phone gap ? Any advantages and disadvantages ? Thanks.

• OpenSSL not listed under PHP modules but shows up in the configure command

  PHP 5.2.12 OS X 10.5.8 If I compile PHP from source with the following configure command ./configure --disable-all --with-openssl=shared,/opt/local it succeeds. However, after a make and make install, php -m does not list the openssl module. Based on what I've read, I think it may be due to multiple installs of the openssl library. Installing the latest version of openssl from source and trying to specify the path in the configure command, --with-openssl=/usr/local, always results in the following error: Undefined symbols: "_EVP_CIPHER_CTX_block_size", referenced from: _zif_openssl_seal in openssl.o ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [sapi/cgi/php-cgi] Error 1 I've tried a few different variations on the path with no luck. Based on http://blog.yimingliu.com/2009/02/24/missing-library-symbols-while-compiling-php-528/, I've also tried editing the Makefile so that MH_BUNDLE_FLAGS comes later in the compilation line. After spending a good portion of the day on this issue, I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?

• TortoiseSVN 1.6.8 missing repository browser in Branch/Tag "To URL" dialog?

  It seems that in TortoiseSVN 1.6.8 (on Windows), when you click the "To URL..." button in the Branch/Tag dialog, it now pops up a generic "browse for folders" dialog. It used to pop up a Repository Browser. Displaying a regular folder browser isn't much use, since you can't navigate to any of the tags/branches via the file system. Does anyone know if this is a regression or a deliberate change? Any possible workarounds (other than reverting to 1.6.7, which works fine)? Notes: I am running a repository on the local file system, which may yield different results to one going across a network. I'm definitely using an FSFS repository, so changes to BDB access via file:/// shouldn't apply. • Query and/or Search for SharePoint Document ID

  We have the sharepoint 2010 environment with Document ID's enabled. Given (part of) a Doc ID, we want to programmatically retrieve the document(s) matching that ID. The problem seems to be that this column is rather special, in that it might need special handling. Using an SPSiteDataQuery, fetching the _dlc_DocId field as part of the viewfields works fine. However, including it as part of the where query never results in any documents being fetched. Using the Search API has gotten us nowhere at all. Has anyone pulled this off, or any suggestions on how to tackle this problem? [Update] Looks like DocumentIdProvider.GetDocumentUrlsById might be used for this purpose. If necessary, the matching SPListItem can then be found by querying on the URL. However, the MSDN documentation doesn't document the documentId arugment properly, so I'm unsure whether partial ID's are allowed and in what format.

• How can I send a GET request containing a colon, to an ASP.NET MVC2 controller?

  This works fine: GET /mvc/Movies/TitleIncludes/Lara%20Croft When I submit a request that contains a colon, like this: GET /mvc/Movies/TitleIncludes/Lara%20Croft:%20Tomb ...it generates a 400 error. The error says ASP.NET detected invalid characters in the URL. If I try url-escaping, the request looks like this: GET /mvc/Movies/TitleIncludes/Lara%20Croft%3A%20Tomb ...and this also gives me a 400 error. If I replace the colon with a | : GET /mvc/Movies/TitleIncludes/Lara%20Croft|%20Tomb ..that was also rejeted as illegal, this time with a 500 error. The message: Illegal characters in path. URL-escaping that | results in the same error. I really, really don't want to use a querystring parameter. related: Sending URLs/paths to ASP.NET MVC controller actions

  Okay, so I am sick of writing this... res = Something.objects.filter(asdf=something) if res: single = res[0] else: single = None if single: # do some stuff I would much rather be able to do something like this: single = Something.objects.filter(asdf=something) if single: #do some stuff I want to be able to grab a single object without testing the filtered results. In other words, when i know there is either going to be 1 or 0 matching entries, I would like to jump right to that entry, otherwise just get a 'None'. The DoesNotExist error that goes along with .get does not always work so well when trying to compress these queries into a single line. Is there any way to do what I have described?

  I am loading an XML document into an XDocument object, doing a query and then returning the data through a web service as an XmlDocument object. The code below works fine, but it just seems a bit smelly. Is there a cleaner way to take the results of the query and convert back to an XDocument or XmlDocument? • Adjusting sql statement in a function based upon input

I'm trying to make a simple filter search where-by you can choose from a series of 3 drop downs and then based upon this the results are then displayed, How would I go about adjusting the sql query for each and if you were to only choose to search from aone of the 3 rather than all 3 etc... example there could be the url with input such as: url.com?location=gb&color=3&hair=4 and still form the correct sql query for something like this: url.com?location=gb&hair=1 and not encounter problems with WHERE and AND etc etc and empty variables in the statement Would this not need to be a massive function to check using if to see how the data is set for all possibilities? • Easiest way of unit testing C code with Python

  I've got a pile of C code that I'd like to unit test using Python's unittest library (in Windows), but I'm trying to work out the best way of interfacing the C code so that Python can execute it (and get the results back). Does anybody have any experience in the easiest way to do it? Some ideas include: Wrapping the code as a Python C extension using the Python API Wrap the C code using SWIG Add a DLL wrapper to the C code and load it into Python using ctypes Add a small XML-RPC server to the c-code and call it using xmlrpclib (yes, I know this seems a bit far-out!) Is there a canonical way of doing this? I'm going to be doing this quite a lot, with different C modules, so I'd like to find a way which is least effort.

• How to not increment the build.number in Ant?

  I have many targets in my build.xml for Ant. Generally I am running two via a shell script, one to construct the application and one for cleaning up. The shell script checks the exit status of the construction to see if it should clean up or leave the clutter behind so I can determine what went wrong and fix it. So went all is going well, the majority of the time, Ant is executed once for construction and once for clean up. This results in my build.number being incremented for each execution. So in steady state, my build.number increments by 2. How can a tell Ant to not increment the build.number? I would do this for clean up as I haven't built anything. I know the obvious answer of creating a separate script for clean up only, but I'd rather keep the entire build.xml in one file.
