• 3D Collision help

  I'm having difficulties with my project. I'm quite new in XNA. Anyway, I'm trying to make 3D game and I'm already stuck on one basic thing. I have terrain made from a heightmap, and an avatar model. I want to set up some collisions for game so the player won't go through the ground. But I just don't know how to detect collisions for so complex an object. I could just make a simple box collision for my avatar, but what about the ground? I already implemented the JigLibX physics engine in my project and I know that I can make a collision map with heightmap, but I can't find any tutorials or help with this. So how can I set proper collision for complex objects? How can I detect heightmap collisions in JigLibX? Just some links to tutorials would be enough. Thanks in advance!

• Installer can't find any partition

  I have a ubuntu 11.10 cd which I burned. And when I try to install Ubuntu I come all the way until it tells me to format partitions / choose partitions. And it can't see ANY partition at all. I have Windows 7 at the moment. I really don't know what the problem is, I've been googling it and searching the forums but no luck. I tried to install with WUBI and rebooted it. And when I was in "ubuntu", at the desktop in ubuntu a error came up telling me to choose a partition. I have no clue what the the problem is... My computer is a Packard Bell model ixtreme m5150 and I don't know what motherboard I have unfortunately. I didn't build it. Please help me.

• Bad idea to display mail server info in public github project?

  I have the project for work that requires me to send e-mails to people using our work mail server. The server doesn't require authentication. Part of my project is using a Java-Helper I'm developing on GitHub. I don't know if I completely understand how it all works, but I'm guessing it would be a bad idea to have the server information available on GitHub for the world to see. Is this correct? After thought: I'm not going to put it in the Java-Helper because that wouldn't be helpful for anyone but me. but I'm still curious to know the answer to this question :) Thanks!

Don't you know about the Gordon-Wokker crypto-magic-hash-algorithms library? Without it you may as well go plaintext. How do you know what the best ways are to maximize security?   I am on ubuntu 12.04 and I want to create a wifi hotspot to be used with my android device. Now I know there are so many tutorials available every where and that I have all options in network tab to use but I couldn't get it to work. Android does not work with an adhoc connection and whatever wifi network I created, my android device could not connect to it (I could connect a phone using bada to it and other computers can also be connected) I know the work around to get android on a adhoc connection but can't I have some thing as simple as connectify for windows? PS : I am not looking for workarounds involving android.

  I'd like to know how to call to a query in COGNOS 8 using qtip2. Where do I plugin the required "content?" For instance: ajax was calling to a wiki server that pulled an image and content dynamically. So it goes with out saying that I need to plugin my content there but what exactly do I plugin? I know we have ASP.NET and ISS on our cognos server side but where can I just plugin a span for the data to appear dynamically in my scrollable qtip2?

• How are you coping with Ubuntu's Unity app launcher? (It auto-hides, can't minimize apps)

  [Firstly, let me tell you that this cannot be subjective in anyway, as I think at least Ubuntu beginners will have these questions boggling in their mind; and yes, this is a question that has a definite answer - - so, I am completely within the rules.] Okay, coming to the point, I see that Ubuntu uses Unity since v10.xx (netbook edition?) and carried the same to v11.04 & v11.10. As someone who's stuck to Windows for all these years, it's somewhat difficult to cope with Ubuntu's Unity, for the following reasons: [1] The Unity app launcher (to the screen's left) auto-hides when a window is maximized. [2]- And once launched, apps cannot be minimized by clicking the app's icon in the launcher. I have to go to the top-left of the screen and click the "_" button. I do know I can fix these issues by installing some configuration tool. But the thing is, if that's how it's meant to work, Canonical/Ubuntu would have designed it that way. But they didn't. Why? w.r.t above points [1], [2]: [1] EDITED: So, does it mean, it's good to work without maximizing the windows? Because if I maximize the window, the app launcher hides. And I need to hover the mouse to the left of the screen, wait a bit (even if it's a sec or even less, I can still feel the lag), and then click on the next app icon in the launcher to switch to it. I do know, I can use Alt+TAB to switch, but I am not sure which window comes next. This, I feel, isn't productive. Also, this makes me feel, Ubuntu is designed for large screens (it's nice on my 1920x1080p screen), because I can have two windows side-by-side or something like that on a large screen. This is not possible on smaller screens. [2]- Being able to minimize an application's window by clicking on its icon in the launcher (just like it works on Windows & probably elsewhere) would have been great, rather than having to go to the top-left and clicking the _ (minimize) button which brings up the app launcher itself (from hiding) most of the time. It's too tiring to have these small issues in the UI. I really would like to know how you are coping with these issues the way they are?

• Skype does not save configuration

  Hello, on ubuntu 10.10, I have recently started to experience this problem: for some reason skype wont save any settings except "sign in on startup" when skype starts and tries to sign in it is unsuccessful (it shows incorrect password, in red) every time. no matter if I have provided good password the last time. I always have to click to show contacts in groups, it does not remember it. Every time I have to go to options and update some notification settings. I know all these things should be "remembered" by skype - this problem started only recently. I don't recall fiddling with any permissions that could have likely caused that. Do you know what the problem might be? I tried uninstall (marking complete configuration removal) and install fresh, but it still remembers my username (why??) Can I find skype configuration files on the filesystem somewhere and change permissions for them - or even better - edit the files to set what I want..?

  After successfully installing Xubuntu 12.04.1 on my laptop, I decided to install Unity. That went OK but then I realized there was no themes. So then I installed the themes and artwork, and got a really bad surprise. My lightDM greeter was still Xubuntu like I wanted but the buttons where you choose the user are really tall and I have a purple computer as the icon above my computer name. How do I get back to the original Xubuntu configuration or edit the CSS while keeping Unity? I know where all of the files are but don't know which file to edit or which CSS property to modify. • Automatically adding CD box art so that I can put it on my iPod.

  I know it's possible to automatically find CD covers for albums, because rhythmbox is doing it on the fly. (When I listen to stuff, it finds the CD cover online...) What I want is to get this information onto my ipod. As it stands pretty much all my songs have the default blank CD cover... I use gtkpod to transfer music to it. This needs to be an automatic process, because I have a large music library and I'm lazy and it's not exactly an important thing... I rip CDs I buy with the basic CD extractor, so all the files are in a Artist/Album/song.mp3 structure. (Yes I know, mp3 is evil, but iPod doesn't like .ogg so whatever)

  Hello everybody, Application and applets icons are changing their position or even disappears from the gnome-panel (see an example). It often happens after connecting to external monitor with different resolution setting, or sometimes happens by chance (I don't know what is the reason of such behaviour). Some icons I can move, others I can't. I don't know if they're locked or not. My question is: Is there any settings/software for icon's position control in the panel? I noticed that locking does not resolve this issue. Thank you for support.

  I've installed ubuntu 13.04 onto my hp 2231tx computer. During installation all of my data was erased. I didn't know all of my three partitions would be deleted. I was shocked after finding out that all of my personal data was erased. I didn't know what to do to resolve this problem so I search google for an answer. I found a program called testdisk and I used it to recover about half of my data. Among this data weren't my personal photos and videos. Is there a way to recover the other half?

  Yes, I know that most questions ending with "like Windows" are odd, but this one really bothers me ;) If you ever used some DLNA renderer (in my case DLNA-enabled loudspeakers) you probably know the handy "play to"-feature. From my knowledge of DLNA stuff I would guess, that Windows Media Player is both a DLNA server and control point here, so my question is: Is there any similar software for Linux accomplishing the same thing with minimal configuration effort?   I'm developing a game using Box2D (javascript implementation - Box2DWeb), and I would like to know how I can pan the debug draw. I know the usual answer is - don't use debug draw, it's just for debugging. I'm not, however not all my objects are on the same screen, and i'd like to see where they are in the physics representation. How can I pan the debug drawing? As you can see the debug draw stuff, is show on the top left, but it only shows a small part of the world. • How should I organise classes for a space simulator?

  I have pretty much taught myself everything I know about programming, so while I know how to teach myself (books, internet and reading API's), I'm finding that there hasn't been a whole lot in the way of good programming. I am finishing up learning the basics of XNA and I want to create a space simulator to test my knowledge. This isn't a full scale simulator, but just something that covers everything I learned. It's also going to be modular so I can build on it, after I get the basics down. One of the early features I want to implement is AI. And I want to take this into account as I'm designing my classes so I can minimize rewriting code. So my question: How should I design ship classes so that both the player and AI can use them? The only idea I have so far is: Create a ship class that contains stats, models, textures, collision data etc. The player and AI would then have the data for position, rotation, health, etc and would base their status off of the ship stats.

  English is not my first language, but since the keywords in programming languages are English words, I usually find it easy to read source code as English sentences: if (x > 10) f(); = "If variable x is greater than 10, then call function f." while (i < 10) ++i; = "While variable i is less than 10, increase i by 1." But how a for loop is supposed to be read? for (i = 0; i < 10; ++i) f(i); = ??? I mean, I know what a for loop is and how it works. My problem is only that I don't know what the English word "for" exactly means in for loops.
