• Java - Confused by the one class per file rule

  The one class per file rule in Java has me a bit confused. I writing an Android app and trying to implement the accepted answer to this question: Common class for AsyncTask in Android? which calls for an interface definition which class A implements and class B accepts as an argument to its constructor. So I need an A.java and a B.java, but where does the interface go? Does it need a separate java file itself? Do I have to define it inside both A and B? If not how to import it? Also I will have about 10 different AsyncTask classes, but I don't want to bother creating a new file for each one. What would you recommend? Is there a way to put all 10 classes in one file? Or should I create a big if/then block inside the class and pass an argument telling it which of the 10 different tasks I want it to do?

• Why does my git push hang after successfully pushing?

  On a newly set up ssh git repo, whenever I push, I get normal output like this: ? git push Counting objects: 15, done. Delta compression using up to 4 threads. Compressing objects: 100% (9/9), done. Writing objects: 100% (9/9), 989 bytes, done. Total 9 (delta 7), reused 0 (delta 0) It happens very quickly, and the changes are immediately available on the server repo. But the output hangs there for about a minute, and then finishes with: To [email protected]:baz.git c8c391c..1de5e80 branch_name -> branch_name If I control-c before it finishes, everything seems to continue to be normal and healthy, locally and remotely. What is it doing while hanging? Is something configured incorrectly on the server side?

• How compiling circular dependencies works?

  I've made the example in Java but I think (not tested) that it works in other (all?) languages. You have 2 files M.java that says public class MType{ XType x; MType(){ x = null;} } and another file XType.java (in the same directory) public class XType{ MType m; public XType(MType m){ this.m=m;} } Ok it's BAD programming , but.. if you run javac XType it compiles: compiles even MTypes because XType needs it. But.. MType needs XType.. how it works? How does the compiler know what is happening? Probably is a stupid question, but I would like to know how the compiler (javac or other compilers if you know.) manages that situation, not how to avoid it. I'm asking because i'm writing a precompiler and I would like to manage that situation.. Thank you

So I can do a simple operation "A_1_2.buttonMode = true;" to all my MC's (in an array for example) without writing every line (lot of MC's on layer and lot of lines).

  When writing a JavaScript animation, you of course make a loop using setInterval (or repeated setTimeout). But what is the best delay to use in the setInterval/setTimeout call(s)? In the jQuery API page for the .animate() function, the user "fbogner" says: Just if anyone is interested: Animations are "rendered" using a setInterval with a time out of 13ms. This is quite fast! Chrome's fastest possible interval is about 10ms. All other browsers "sample" at about 20-30ms. Any idea how jQuery determined to use this specific number?

• What's safe to assume about the NSMutableArray / NSArray class cluster?

  I know you shouldn't use this to decide whether or not to change an array: if ([possiblyMutable isKindOfClass:[NSMutableArray class]]) But say I'm writing a method and need to return either an NSMutableArray or an NSArray, depending on the mutability of possiblyMutable. The class using my method already knows whether or not it's acceptable to change the returned array. Whether or not it's acceptable to change the returned array directly correlates with whether or not it's acceptable to change possiblyMutable. In that specific case, is this code safe? It seems to me that if it's not acceptable to change the array, but we accidentally get a mutable array, it's ok, because the class using my method won't try to change it. And if it is acceptable to change the array, then we will always get possiblyMutable as an NSMutableArray (though this is the part I'm not entirely clear on). So... safe or not? Alternatives?

• "slash before every quote" problem

  I have a php page which contains a form. Sometimes this page is submitted to itself (like when pics are uploaded). I wouldn't want users to have to fill in every field again and again, so I use this as a value of a text-input inside the form: value="<?php echo htmlentities(@$_POST['annonsera_headline'],ENT_COMPAT,'UTF-8');?>"> This works, except it adds a "\" sign before every double-quote... For instance writing 19" wheels gives after page is submitted to itself: 19\" wheels And if I don't even use htmlentities then everything after the quotes dissappears. What is the problem here?

  I'm dealing with a file with a linked list of lines with each node looking like this: struct TextLine{ //The actual text string text; //The line number of the document int line_num; //A pointer to the next line TextLine * next; }; and I'm writing a function that adds spaces at the beginning of the lines found in the variable text, by calling functions like linelist_ptr->text.insert(0,1,'\t'); The program compiles, but when I run it I get this error: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::out_of_range' what(): basic_string::at Aborted Any ideas?

• Best Design Pattern to Implement while Mapping Actions in MVC

  What could be the best practices of writing the following case: We have a controller which based on what paths users take, take different actions. For example: if user chooses the path /path1/hello it will say hello. If a user chooses /path1/bye?name="Philipp" it will invoke sayGoodBye() and etc. I have written a switch statement inside the controller which is simple, however IMO not efficient.   I have deployed my rails app to a live server(linux) and I have successfully installed the the mongrel gems, and I can successfully start the server for my app but when i try to acceess the website on the server i get the error The server at 196.xx.xxx.xx is taking too long to respond. Is there anything i need to do to be able to access my app on the browser? • Are these REST HTTP response codes right, and what about the Content-Type?

  I'm writing a controller helper that sets the proper response headers for my REST controller action. It's pasted below and should be simplified enough for those who aren't familiar with Zend Framework to understand what I'm doing. My question is: Are these codes correct for their respective responses, and in the case of "access denied" do I use a 401 or 403? • How would one call std::forward on all arguments in a variadic function?

  I was just writing a generic object factory and using the boost preprocessor meta-library to make a variadic template (using 2010 and it doesn't support them). My function uses rval references and std::forward to do perfect forwarding and it got me thinking...when C++0X comes out and I had a standard compiler I would do this with real variadic templates. How though, would I call std::forward on the arguments? template < typename ... Params void f(Params ... params) // how do I say these are rvalue reference? { y(std::forward(...params)); //? - I doubt this would work. } Only way I can think of would require manual unpacking of ...params and I'm not quite there yet either. Is there a quicker syntax that would work?

• How do I get stdout into mstest output when running in new app domain?

  I have been working on test framework, which creates a new app domain to run the tests in. The primary reason being the dll's that we are testing has some horrible code that relies on the dll being located in the app domain path. (No I can't change this code.) The problem that I am having is that my test team is writing a bunch of functional tests in mstest and one of the loggers, that writes to Console.Out, does not have any of the log information captured in the trx output. When running the code through a console app all of the log information is output fine. So do the other loggers that have been implemented. My thought is that mstest is setting its own TextWriter to Console.Out, but the new app doamin has it's own TextWriter for Console.Out as the new app domain has it's own set of statics. I appreciate your ideas.

• Boost ASIO read X bytes synchroniously into a vector

  Hey, I've been attempting to write a client/server app with boost now, so far it sends and receives but I can't seem to just read X bytes into a vector. If I use the following code vector<uint8_t> buf; for (;;) { buf.resize(4); boost::system::error_code error; size_t len = socket.read_some(boost::asio::buffer(buf), error); if (error == boost::asio::error::eof) break; // Connection closed cleanly by peer. else if (error) throw boost::system::system_error(error); // Some other error. } And the packet is bigger then 4 bytes then it seems it keeps writing into those 4 bytes until the entire packet has been received, however I want it to fetch 4 bytes, then allow me to parse them, and then get the rest of the packet. Can anyone provide me with a working example, or at least a pointer on how to make it work properly ? Regards, Xeross

• How can I use git to stage only one line in a file for commit, all from a script?

  I'm writing a simple pre-commit git hook that updates the year in copyright headers for files that are staged for commit. After modifying the line with the copyright, I would like the hook to stage that line so that it is part of the commit. It can't just git add the whole file, because there may be other pre-existing changes in there that shouldn't be staged. I don't see any options in the git add manual the let you stage specific lines. I figure I could git stash save --keep-index, apply my change, git add the file, and then git stash pop, but that seems rather crude. Any better approaches?

  I am looking for TDD resources that are specific to Rails. I've seen the Rails Guide: The Basics of Creating a Rails Plugin which really spurred my interest in the topic. I have the Agile Development with Rails book and I see there's some testing-related information there. However, it seems like the author takes you through the steps of building the app, then adds testing afterward. This isn't really Test Driven Development. Ideally, I'd like a book on this, but a collection of other tutorials or articles would be great if such a book doesn't exist.   My app will have a regular domain - let's say example.com - which will have information about logging in, signing up, etc. It will also host numerous other domains dynamically. My app serves the webpage for these at http://example.com/site/foobar.com/ So, I need to redirect all requests where the hostname is not example.com to /site/[hostname]/ I'm writing this in Django and hosting with Apache. How do I set up a rewrite rule to do this? The user must not know they are on any other site but foobar.com and if the user browses to foobar.com/something - the URL must be rewritten to /site/foobar.com/something

  I recently encountered an IOError writing to a file on NFS. There wasn't a disk space or permission issue, so I assume this was just a network hiccup. Process.Start("blah.bat"); Normally, I would have something like that in windows application by writing the name of the file 'blah.bat' to Settings file in Properties. However, here I didn't find any Settings file and I added an app.config for the same purpose. I am not sure what to write here in app.config, that would lead to me to achieve similar thing as in windows forms. For eg: In windows forms. • Saving object state on Java without using external memory

  Good day. I know that in order to save object state in Java I should use serialization. But in every single topic about serialization states that I must save my object somewhere (disk, network). My problem is that I'm not allowed to do so. I need a way to save and recover object state without writing it on "external" memory. Maybe to save it on heap or stack...   Hi, Sorry for this vaguely described problem, but please look at the problem from the Win32 API's perspective. I'm writing a Word addin using Addin Express with Delphi, and I use some other 3rd party VCL's also, including virtual stringtree, TNT controls, etc. Now I cannot input Russian characters in Word anymore, but I can input English and Chinese....
