• PHP registration script: verifying and telling the user what went wrong

  Hi, I'm building a registration script and I want to insert the user's input (username, mail) ONLY if it's not already in the database. What I usually do in such cases is a request to see if something's already there, something like: "SELECT * FROM things WHERE thing_name = '$treated_user_input'". I have two fields that need to be unique this time though. Is there a way to do only one SELECT request and still be able to tell the user exactly what field went wrong? Or do I have to do one request per unique field? Thanks for your answers.

  Hi I am trying to host a flash object inside an CAxWindow, I have managed to insert a shockwaveflash (SWF) and its working fine. I am trying to find all available API's that are available in the flash ocx. I am unable to find any documentation for the functions in the IShockwaveFlash interface. I know that Adobe doesn't have a documentation for using flash in VC++ but I was wondering if anyone can point me to a place where I can find an UNOFFICIAL documentation for flash.ocx or code samples as the only API that I could find and I'm currently using is "PutMovie".   I have serious trouble finding anything useful in Mongo documentation about dealing with embedded documents. Let's say I have a following schema: { _id: ObjectId, ... data: [ { _childId: ObjectId // let's use custom name so we can distinguish them ... } ] } What's the most efficient way to remove everything inside data for particular _id? What's the most efficient way to remove embedded document with particular _childId inside given _id? What's the performance here, can _childId be indexed in order to achieve logarithmic (or similar) complexity instead of linear lookup? If so, how? What's the most efficient way to insert a lot of (let's say a 1000) documents into data for given _id? And like above, can we get O(n log n) or similar complexity with proper indexing? What's the most efficient way to get the count of documents inside data for given _id?

  Hi guys, I'm doing some large scale text processing work and I'm trying to get started with Hadoop and HBase. One of the things I need to do is build a multimap of some stuff, which I later use to look up things and get all items with a certain key (in a M/R job). Would it be OK to use HBase and insert many rows with the same key and rely on versions/timestamps to achieve a multimap-like setup or is this a bad idea? The multimap is built up in the reduce phase of a Mapreduce task by the way, or at least in the way I've formulated it on paper. Thanks! If more information is needed, I'd be happy to provide it. • SQLITE (C/C++interface) - How to commit a transaction

  I am using sqlite c/c++ interface. Now here is my scenario - I have 3 tables (related tables) say A, B, C. Now, there is a function called Set, which get some inputs and based on the inputs inserts rows into these three tables. (sometimes it can be an update in one of the tables) Now I need two things. One, i dont want autocommit feature. Basically I would like to commit after every 1000 calls to Set function Secondly, within the set function itself, if i find that after inserting into two tables, the third insert fails, then i have to revert, those particular changes in that Set function call. Now i dont see any sqlite3_commit function exposed. I only see a function called sqlite3_commit_hook() which is slightly diff in documentation. Are there any function exposed for this purpose? or What is the way to achieve this behaviour? Can you help me with the best approach of doing this. Regards, Arjun

  Is there a way to insert logic based on virtual fields into a Doctrine_Query? I have defined a virtual field in my model, "getStatus()" which I would ultimately like to utilize in a Where clause in my Doctrine_Query. ... ->AndWhere('x.status = ?',$status); "status", however, is not a column in the table it is instead computed by business logic in the model. Filtering the Collection after executing the query works in some situations, but not when a Doctrine_Pager is thrown in the mix, as it computes it's offsets and such before you have access to the Collection. Am I best off ditching Doctrine_Pager and rebuilding that functionality after modifying the Doctrine_Collection?

My scenario goes like this, whenever a row is inserted, a trigger is fired and it should access some script file which is placed in the hard disk, and ultimately should print the result. So, is this thing is possible? and if yes, then this thing should exist in dynamic form, i.e. if we change the content of script file, then the oracle should reflect those changes as well. I have tried doing this for java using External Procedures, but doesn't feel that much satisfied with the result that i wanted. Kindly give your point-of-view for this kind of scenario and ways that this can be implemented.

The second line however, provides the following error: warning: passing argument 1 of 'addObject:' makes pointer from integer without a cast This also crashes the application with a "bad address" error. I thought this error was due to a problem with memory allocation. Can someone shed some light on this.

• How can I use different metadata for a Dynamic Data form view and the list view?

  We often need a summarised list view with more detailed form view. So far, the only two way I can think of doing this are using a 'custom' list or form view than uses a sumplimentary 'remove' or 'add' list of fields anb generalise this over all entity sets, or create a custom metadata provider that infers somehow which columns to supply. Are there any other ways of distinguishing these two views? PS, I wrote a fun little general details page, that handles insert, edit, and view, all on one page template. Maybe I could somehow use that? It's here.

• Breakpoint when variable takes on a certain value.

  I have something analogous to the following code... void function(int x) { // complicated operation on x blah blah } It all appears to be working fine except when x happens to be a particular value, say "273". But x being 273 is a rare event, 99.999% of the time it is some other value. Now I wish to observe the events when this function is called with x=273, so I would like to insert a breakpoint that gets hit only with x is that value. Perhaps I could do it like this: void function(int x) { if (x == 273) { // put breakpoint on this line. } // complicated operation on x blah blah } The problem is that presumably the compiler will optimise away this "if" statement because it doesn't do anything. So my question is what should I put within the "if" statement to to make sure it gets compiled in to something... or should I be tracing the x==273 case in some completely different way.
