• Flash CS4 [AS3]: Playing Card Deck Array

  I am looking to make a card game in Flash CS4 using AS3 and I am stuck on the very first step. I have created graphics for a standard 52 card deck of playing cards and imported them into the library in Flash and then proceeded to convert them all to Movie Clips. I have also used the linkage to make them available in the code. The movie clips and the linkage are named in sequence, as in the Ace of Clubs would be C1, two of Diamonds is called D2, Jack of Spades is S11. (C = Clubs, D = Diamonds, S = Spades, H = Hearts and numbers 1 through 13 are the card values. 1 being Ace, 11 being Jack, 12 being Queen, 13 being King). As far as I know my next step would be to arrange the cards into an array. This is the part that I am having problems with. Can someone please point me in the right direction, what would be the best way to do this. Could you provide me with a bit of sample code as well? I have had a look at few tutorials online but they are all telling me different things, some are incomplete and the rest...well...they're just cr*ppy. Thanks in advance! Ben

I cannot edit this key, but my application must get data from Oracle in Italian culture format. So I want to edit culture info form my application only. • What is the way to go to fake my database layer in a unit test?

  Hi, i have a question about unit testing. say i have a controller with one create method which puts a new customer in the database: //code a bit shortened public actionresult Create(Formcollection formcollection){ client c = nwe client(); c.Name = formcollection["name"]; ClientService.Save(c); { Clientservice would call a datalayer object and save it in the database. What i do now is create a database testscript and set my database in a know condition before testing. So when i test this method in the unit test, i know that there must be one more client in the database, and what it's name is. In short: ClientController cc = new ClientController(); cc.Create(new FormCollection (){name="John"}); //i know i had 10 clients before assert.areEqual(11, ClientService.GetNumberOfClients()); //the last inserted one is John assert.areEqual("John", ClientService.GetAllClients()[10].Name); So i've read that unit testing should not be hitting the database, i've setup an IOC for the database classes, but then what? I can create a fake database class, and make it do nothing. But then ofcourse my assertions will not work because if i say GetNumberOfClients() it will alwasy return X because it has no interaction with the fake database class used in the Create Method. I can also create a List of Clients in the fake database class, but as there will be two different instance created (one in the controller action and one in the unit test), they will have no interaction. What is the way to make this unit test work without a database?

• Increment part of a string in Ruby

  I have a method in a Ruby script that is attempting to rename files before they are saved. It looks like this: def increment (path) if path[-3,2] == "_#" print " Incremented file with that name already exists, renaming\n" count = path[-1].chr.to_i + 1 return path.chop! << count.to_s else print " A file with that name already exists, renaming\n" return path << "_#1" end end Say you have 3 files with the same name being saved to a directory, we'll say the file is called example.mp3. The idea is that the first will be saved as example.mp3 (since it won't be caught by if File.exists?("#{file_path}.mp3") elsewhere in the script), the second will be saved as example_#1.mp3 (since it is caught by the else part of the above method) and the third as example_#2.mp3 (since it is caught by the if part of the above method). The problem I have is twofold. 1) if path[-3,2] == "_#" won't work for files with an integer of more than one digit (example_#11.mp3 for example) since the character placement will be wrong (you'd need it to be path[-4,2] but then that doesn't cope with 3 digit numbers etc). 2) I'm never reaching problem 1) since the method doesn't reliably catch file names. At the moment it will rename the first to example_#1.mp3 but the second gets renamed to the same thing (causing it to overwrite the previously saved file). This is possibly too vague for Stack Overflow but I can't find anything that addresses the issue of incrementing a certain part of a string. Thanks in advance!

• PHP: Next Available Value in an Array, starting with a non-indexed value

  I've been stumped on this PHP issue for about a day now. Basically, we have an array of hours formatted in 24-hour format, and an arbitrary value ($hour) (also a 24-hour). The problem is, we need to take $hour, and get the next available value in the array, starting with the value that immediately proceeds $hour. The array might look something like: $goodHours = array('8,9,10,11,12,19,20,21). Then the hour value might be: $hour = 14; So, we need some way to know that 19 is the next best time. Additionally, we might also need to get the second, third, or fourth (etc) available value. The issue seems to be that because 14 isn't a value in the array, there is not index to reference that would let us increment to the next value. To make things simpler, I've taken $goodHours and repeated the values several times just so I don't have to deal with going back to the start (maybe not the best way to do it, but a quick fix). I have a feeling this is something simple I'm missing, but I would be so appreciative if anyone could shed some light. Erik

• Sybase stored procedure - how do I create an index on a #table?

  I have a stored procedure which creates and works with a temporary #table Some of the queries would be tremendously optimized if that temporary #table would have an index created on it. However, creating an index within the stored procedure fails: create procedure test1 as SELECT f1, f2, f3 INTO #table1 FROM main_table WHERE 1 = 2 -- insert rows into #table1 create index my_idx on #table1 (f1) SELECT f1, f2, f3 FROM #table1 (index my_idx) WHERE f1 = 11 -- "QUERY X" When I call the above, the query plan for "QUERY X" shows a table scan. If I simply run the code above outside the stored procedure, the messages show the following warning: Index 'my_idx' specified as optimizer hint in the FROM clause of table '#table1' does not exist. Optimizer will choose another index instead. This can be resolved when running ad-hoc (outside the stored procedure) by splitting the code above in two batches by addding "go" after index creation: create index my_idx on #table1 (f1) go Now, "QUERY X" query plan shows the use of index "my_idx". QUESTION: How do I mimique running the "create index" in a separate batch when it's inside the stored procedure? I can't insert a "go" there like I do with the ad-hoc copy above. P.S. If it matters, this is on Sybase 12.

  Hey, I'm having some trouble with stuff that work locally and dont work on the app engine python environment: Basically, i want to get a program from an epg between ranges of date and time. i know i cannot do two where < so i saw a suggestion to save the dates as list as datetime.datetime which i did. [datetime.datetime(2010, 5, 10, 14, 25), datetime.datetime(2010, 5, 10, 15, 0)] This is ok. but when i try to compare to it: progranon = get_object(Programs2Channel, 'channel_id =', channelobj.key(), 'endstartdate >', programstart_minex, 'endstartdate <', programstart_minex ) This for some reason works locally, but fails to retrieve the data on the app engine. *Im using Google app engine django patch which uses the get_object to retrieve data in transactions. Please help. • why am I stuck on "Initiating update" when deploying to google

  I've have not had any trouble deploying through eclipse until now. I'm guessing it might have to do with all the stuff I've added today a folder of .pdf and .tex files (in war/web-inf directory) a bit of JDO stuff and a servlet that reads the files in the directory and indexes them into the JDO Is there any way to find out what exactly is the problem? • Does anyone knows the algorithm how Facebook detects the images when adding a link

  When you add a link to your Facebook page, after some processing, Facebook presents you a next/prev button to choose an image linked to the url your are inserting. Obviously, Facebook reads the html-page and displays the images found on the url you insert. Does anyone knows what algorithm Facebook uses to decide what images to show ? If I insert a link to : http://www.staplijst.be/lachende-wandelaars-aalter-aktivia-003.asp, only 11 images are detected. The one I want, the one at the top right corner, is not included in the list. If I insert a link to http://www.staplijst.be/stichting-kennedymars-rijsbergen-zundert-nederland-knblo-nl-81996.asp, 19 images are displayed (including the one I want (the one at the right top corner of the text area). Both pages are build using asp code but are functionally the same. I thought that it has something to do with the image size, but can't find any deciding factor there. I will investigate some furhter, because if I know what Facebook is looking for, I can make sure that the correct images are included on the page (since they are dynamic pages build with classic asp). But if anyone has any idea ? Help would be appreciated.

If anybody could help me out that would be fantastic, been looking this up for a while and its giving me the shits lol. Cheers guys

• Scrolling to the bottom of a div on page load: issue with syntaxhighlighter

  I've been using this code: var objDiv = document.getElementById("code"); objDiv.scrollTop = objDiv.scrollHeight; to scroll to the very bottom of the div. It worked perfectly in FF and Chrome (I asked a question about it not working in Chrome a few days ago, but it appears the guy who was testing it on Chrome was incorrect, so I tested it myself) until I started syntax highlighting the code that I put in the div with SyntaxHighlighter. Before, I was putting the code in a <p> and breaking lines with <br />, but the <br /> stuff doesn't fly with SyntaxHighlighter, so I replaced all of those with newlines (not entirely certain if this is important, but it's worth mentioning). Now, when the page loads, it does scroll, but not all the way down. It scrolls nearly to the bottom. I've tried all the methods listed in the other question I mentioned but they all do the same thing, or nothing at all. Is there anything else I can try? Here is the relevant piece of the generated HTML. • Getting Depth Value on Kinect SDK 1.6

  this is my first try on Kinect and Kinect SDK so I'm having a lot of "newbie issues" :) my goal is to point my mouse on the Kinect standard video output and get the depth value. I already have both normal video and depth video outputs by using the 2 "Color Basic-WPF" and "Depth Basic-WPF" samples, and handling mouse events or position is not a problem. In fact i already did all and i already got a depth value, but this value is always HIGHLY imprecise. It jumps from 500 to 4000 by just moving to the next pixel in a plane surface. So.. I'm pretty sure I'm reading the depth value in the wrong way. This is how i read it: short debugValue = depthPixels[x*y].Depth; debug.Text = "X = "+x+", Y = "+y+", value = "+debugValue.ToString(); i know it's pretty out of context, this little piece of code is inside the same SensorDepthFrameReady function in "Depth Basic-WPF"! "x" and "y" are the mouse coordinates and depthPixels is DepthImagePixel[] type, a temporary array filled with the "depthFrame.CopyDepthImagePixelDataTo(this.depthPixels);" instruction. Depth frame is filled here: DepthImageFrame depthFrame = e.OpenDepthImageFrame() the "e" comes from here: private void SensorDepthFrameReady(object sender, DepthImageFrameReadyEventArgs e) and this last one is called here: this.sensor.DepthFrameReady += this.SensorDepthFrameReady; how i must handle that depth value i get? I know the value must be between 800 and 4000 but i get values between about 500 and about 8000. i already google a lot (here on SO too) and i still can't understand if the depth value is 11 or 13 bit. The sdk examples uses shrink this value to 8 bit and this is making even more confusion in my head :(

• CLI include paths to run zend framework via cron

  I wrote a command line utility using Zend Framework to do some nightly reporting. It uses a ton of the same functionality the accompanying site. It works great when I run it by hand, but when I run it on cron I have include path issues. Seems like it should be easily fixed with set_include_path, but maybe I'm missing something? My directory structure looks like this: /var/www/clientname/ application Globals.php commandline commandline_bootstrap.php public_html public_bootstrap.php library Zend In public_bootstrap.php I use set_include_path without a problem, relative to the current directory: set_include_path('../library' . PATH_SEPARATOR . get_include_path()); If I understand correctly, in commandline_bootstrap.php I need to put in the absolute path, so cron knows where everything is. My file starts like this: error_reporting(E_ALL); set_include_path('/var/www/clientname/library' . PATH_SEPARATOR . get_include_path()); require_once "../application/Globals.php"; But when I run it via cron I get the following error: PHP Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required '../application/Globals.php' (include_path='/var/www/clientname/library/') in /var/www/clientname/commandline/zfcli.php on line 11 I think PHP is accepting my new path, because when I run it command line and dump the phpinfo I can see: include_path = /var/www/clientname/library/:.:/usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php = .:/usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php I admit the syntax here looks a little strange, but I can’t figure out how to fix it.   I have a Rails + Apache2 + Postgres + Passenger application running in production mode in OSX Snow Leopard. The application serves as a data warehouse for another application in the cloud so I'm constantly getting API calls to my OSX production build. After a recent reboot, I'm finding a ton of httpd processes stacking up and eventually requiring an apache reboot. I haven't changed any settings, everything was running fine before.
