• MVC App Works in Visual Studio, but not IIS7

  Working on a an ASP.NET MVC Project, and I'm having some difficulties deploying to a shared dev server. Locally, when debugging using the local Visual Studio 2008 server, everything works peachy. However, once deployed, I receive the following error: Parser Error Description: An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. • serializing type definitions?

  I'm not positive I'm going about this the right way. I've got a suite of applications that have varying types of output (custom defined types). For example, I might have a type called Widget: Class Widget Public name as String End Class Throughout the course of operation, when a user experiences a certain condition, the application will take that output instance of widget that user received, serialize it, and log it to the database noting the name of the type. Now, I have other applications that do something similar, but instead of dealing with Widget, it could be some totally random other type with different attributes, but again I serialize the instance, log it to the db, and note the name of the type. I have maybe a half dozen different types and don't anticipate too many additional ones in the future. After all this is said and done, I have an admin interface that looks through these logs, and has the ability for the user to view the contents of this data thats been logged. The Admin app has a reference to all the types involved, and with some basic switch case logic hinged upon the name of the type, will cast it into their original types, and pass it on to some handlers that have basic display logic to spit the data back out in a readable format (one display handler for each type) NOW... all this is well and good... Until one day, my model changed. The Widget class now has deprecated the name attribute and added on a bunch of other attributes. I will of course get type mismatches in the admin side when I try to reconstitute this data. I was wondering if there was some way, at runtime, i could perhaps reflect through my code and get a snapshot of the type definition at that precise moment, serialize it, and store it along with the data so that I could somehow use this to reconstitute it in the future?

• Am I going about this the right way?

  Hey Guys, I'm starting a WPF project, and just finished the base of the UI, it seems very convoluted though, so I'm not sure if I've gone around laying it out in the right way. I don't want to get to start developing the back-end and realise that I've done the front wrong, and make life harder for myself. Coming from a background of <DIV's and CSS to style this is a lot different, and really want to get it right from the start. Essentially it's a one week calendar (7 days, Mon-Sunday, defaulting to the current week.) Which will eventually link up to a DB and if I have an appointment for something on this day it will show it in the relevant day. I've opted for a Grid rather than ListView because of the way it will work I will not be binding the results to a collection or anything along those lines. Rather I will be filling out a Combo box within the canvas for each day (yet to be placed in the code) for each event and on selection it will show me further details. • Entity Framework many-to-many using VB.Net Lambda

  Hello, I'm a newbie to StackOverflow so please be kind ;) I'm using Entity Framework in Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 (.NET framework 4.0 Beta 2). I have created an entity framework .edmx model from my database and I have a handful of many-to-many relationships. A trivial example of my database schema is Roles (ID, Name, Active) Members (ID, DateOfBirth, DateCreated) RoleMembership(RoleID, MemberID) I am now writing the custom role provider (Inheriting System.Configuration.Provider.RoleProvider) and have come to write the implementation of IsUserInRole(username, roleName). The LINQ-to-Entity queries which I wrote, when SQL-Profiled, all produced CROSS JOIN statements when what I want is for them to INNER JOIN. I've looked around the web for the best part of half a day but I'm not closer to my answer. So please can somebody advise how, in VB, I can construct a LINQ statement which would do this equivalent in SQL: SELECT rm.RoleID FROM RoleMembership rm INNER JOIN Roles r ON r.ID = rm.RoleID INNER JOIN Members m ON m.ID = rm.MemberID WHERE r.Name = 'Member' AND m.ID = 101 I would use this query to see if Member 101 is in Role 3. (I appreciate I probably don't need the join to the Members table in SQL but I imagine in LINQ I'd need to bring in the Member object?) • Silverlight 4, combobox databinding problem

  In my Silverlight 4 app, CustomerView (UserControl) shows Customer object as it's DataContext. Customer object has IndustryCode string property. I created combobox called cboIndustryCode and bind it to the IndustryCode property the following way: <ComboBox x:Name="cboIndustryCode" SelectedValue="{Binding IndustryCode, Mode=TwoWay}" ... /> In code-behind I populate cboIndustryCode with List of Industry object, which has Code and Name properties: cboIndustryCode.ItemsSource = industries; //which is of List<Industry> type Now, to show everything properly, in XAML I added the following: <ComboBox x:Name="cboIndustryCode" SelectedValue="{Binding IndustryCode, Mode=TwoWay}" DisplayMemberPath="Name" SelectedValuePath="Code" ... /> So, when I get a customer class from my data layer and set the DataContext to this customer instance, the cboIndustryCode properly displays industry name. But, then I edit customer (not necessarily IndustryCode) and save the object (which resets DataContext = new Customer()) and retrieve the customer again from database, and I see that cboIndustryCode no longer working. It just displays nothing, and if I select new value from the list, it does not update underlying customer object's IndustryCode property. The problem goes away, if I put the following code in the place where I set DataContext to a instance of customer, retrieved from database: Binding binding = new Binding("IndustryCode"); binding.Mode = BindingMode.TwoWay; cboIndustryCode.SetBinding(ComboBox.SelectedValueProperty, binding); So, in short, combobox's binding is reset somehow every time I save my data. Can someone tell me the reason?

Does the user mydomain\crmwebuser need certain permissions in the SQL database, or somewhere else? edit: On the home page of the Web Site Administration Tool, I have the following: **Application**:/ **Current User Name**:MACHINENAME\USERACCOUNT Which is obviously a different set of credentials than mydomain\crmwebuser. I am using core data with a sqlite database to hold simple profile objects which have a name and a score attribute (both of which are of type NSString).   What I do: Publishing .Net 3.5 application via VS, or msbuild (whatever), and now I need to insert to the published application separate directory (Modules - not added as a reference to the project - our project architecture does not allow this). So I'm copying the folder to published location then runs mageUI.exe select the application manifest and then the problems starts. As I press the populate button it's adding also hidden directory? So I remove the directory, after I want to save the manifest file I get the "Warning MSB3110: Assembly 'NAME.Shell.application.deploy' has mismatched identity 'NAME.Shell.application', expected file name: 'NAME.Shell.application.application'". Did you have the same problems, according to http://smartclient.codeplex.com/Project/Download/FileDownload.aspx?DownloadId=5060 it should be easy as 1-2-3 but it's not.

  Hi, I'm trying to follow Marcus Zarra in his book 'Core Data'. In the book, he makes a small sample application, but it doesn't give much help when things don't work out... He starts out by visually designing three entities, and then adding array controllers for each entity to the main nib. Second, he adds a tableview and some other visual components to show data from the array controllers. So far, I have managed to follow, but now he adds a search field to the gui, and binds it to the same array controller as one of the tableviews. Expected behavior would be for the tableview to get filtered when typing in the search field, but nothing happens. How do I find out what's wrong? The relevant parts from the nib is as follow: NSArrayController Recipes - Mode = Entity - Enitity Name = Recipe TableView w/TableColumn - Value Bind To Recipes -- Controller Key = arrangedObjects -- Model Key Path = name Search Field - Predicate Bind To Recipes -- Controller Key = filterPredicate -- Model Key Path = name -- Display name = predicate -- Predicate Format = keyPath contains $value There are no relevant messages in the console. regards, -Vegar

  Hi On a Terminal Server install of my WinForms app, one of my clients gets the following exception on startup: "Unrecognized configuration section connectionStrings" This is occurring in myapp.exe.config but I can't figure out why. Runs perfectly everywhere else, only difference between this install and any other is the connection string. I've searched around, but can only find this issue relating to ASP.NET apps and issues in web.config. Any ideas what could be broken in the config of this WinForms app though? Is it indicating a problem further up in machine.config?
