• Render SVG font in Adobe Illistrator or Corel Draw

  Hello! I'm developing a project that produces SVG files with custom embed fonts. SVG font definition I compose as SVG font tag with help of http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontface/generator or Batik SVG Toolkit. The resulted SVG file I try to open in following applications: Adobe Illustrator CS4 - text has default font and message noticed about font not found in system CorelDRAW X5 - text has default font and any messages don't noticed Batik SVG Browser (Squiggle) - renders text correctly The problem is all modern typographies use CorelDRAW and Abode Illustrator for print vector graphic and them render not correctly SVG. Solution As for me, I see follow solutions: Save the text with custom font as SVG path. This will work but, I can't find any solution that can convert text + TTF to SVG path data; Use other vector format, f.e. AI, EPS or CDR. This solution is difficult for me, because I use SVG paths as part of input data; Recommend our users to use Batik SVG Browser (Squiggle) or any other application which are based on Batik SVG Toolkit library. Batik SVG Toolkit requires Java runtime :( If anyone know some knowledge to open SVG embed fonts in Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW please share them. I would be grateful for any help. • OpenGL-ES: Change (multiply) color when using color arrays?

  Following the ideas in OpenGL ES iPhone - drawing anti aliased lines, I am trying to draw stroked anti-aliased lines and I am successful so far. After line is draw by the finger, I wish to fade the path, that is I need to change the opacity (color) of the entire path. I have computed a large array of vertex positions, vertex colors, texture coordinates, and indices and then I give these to opengl but I would like reduce the opacity of all the drawn triangles without having to change each of the color coordinates. Normally I would use glColor4f(r,g,b,a) before calling drawElements, but it has no effect due to the color array. I am working on Android, but I believe it shouldn't make the big difference, as long as it is OpenGL-ES 1.1 (or 1.0). I think that in OpenGl one might use a fragment shader, but it seems OpenGL does not have a fragment shader (not that I know how to use one).

• Setting up dovecot on OpenBSD

  I'm a *nix n00b that just installed dovecot (the selection with no ldap, mysql or pgsql) on OpenBSD 4.0 and I want to set it up for imap use, but I'm having a hard time finding documentation that I can understand. It currently running on port 143 (checked with telnet) but from there I need to do the following: I need some accounts, the once already on the system are fine if I can get those running (seemed to be some dovecot option somehow?), or just adding a few manually is ok too. Was there some setting for this in the default /etc/dovecot.conf? passdb bsdauth {} is uncommented by default... I need to create imap folders, or subfolders. How can I do that? Hopefully not, but anything else I need to do? I want to run without certification validation and no SSL/TLS, would this work by default (client-side settings)?

• IIS Server on XP Machine with tweaked registry and services

  I have been trying for some time now to setup a webapp on my XP machine at home. Prior to doing this, I had tweaked the registry settings, fiddled with disabling and enabling servies, without recording what I tweaked, which I imagining could be what's causing the problem. I don't want to "reboot" to factory settings, although I suppose that would be nice to know how to do as well. I am more interested in finding out what settings could have influenced the behavior, and who I could contact / what information I could send them that would aid in solving the problem. Thanks.

• Mercurial Remote Subrepos

  I'm trying to set up my Mercurial repository system to work with multiple subrepos. I've basically followed these instructions to set up the client repo with Mercurial client v1.5 and I'm using HgWebDir to host my multiple projects. I have an HgWebDir with the following structure: http://myserver/hg fooproj mylib where mylib is some collection of common template library to be consumed by fooproj. The structure of fooproj looks like this: fooproj doc/ src/ .hgignore .hgsub .hgsubstate And .hgsub looks like: src/mylib = http://myserver/hg/mylib This should work, per my interpretation of the documentation: The first 'nested' is the path in our working dir, and the second is a URL or path to pull from. So, let's say I pull down fooproj to my home folder with: ~$ hg clone http://myserver/hg/fooproj foo Which pulls down the directory structure properly and adds the folder ~/foo/src/mylib which is a local Mercurial repository. This is where the problems begin: the mylib folder is empty aside from the items in .hg. With 2 seconds of investigation, one can see the src/mylib/.hg/hgrc is: [paths] default = http://myserver/hg/fooproj/src/mylib which is completely wrong (attempting a pull of that repo will give a 404 because, well, that URL doesn't make any sense). Logically, the default value should be what I specified in .hgsub or it would get the files from the repository in some way. None of the Mercurial commands return error codes (aside from a pull from within src/mylib), so it clearly believes that it is behaving properly (and just might be), although this does not seem logical at all. What am I doing wrong?

• Can I use a mini PCI-E card in a standard motherboard with PCI/PCI Express slots?

  I'm helping someone build a computer and they absolutely insist on having an internal Bluetooth adapter. I've been searching around for a PCI-E/PCI based Bluetooth adapter but I've had no luck finding one - I've found some discontinued ones but they have giant antennas coming out the back - the person I'm building the computer for doesn't want that. I've been repeatedly insisting on him simply getting a USB Bluetooth dongle, but he doesn't want one taking up his external USB slots. This is the motherboard I'm using for his build: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157303 My question is if it's possible to use one of those laptop PCI-E cards in a motherboard like this that has PCI-E and PCI slots, or if the form factor is completely different and won't fit?

• How to remove a partition on a USB drive?

  I got a free promotional USB stick that I want to format for my own purposes. When I inserted it, it automatically opened a browser and launched a web site. I have since disabled autoplay on this computer so that nothing launches when the stick is inserted. But it still shows up as two separate drives, and one of them is a "CD Drive" that I can't format. How can a USB stick contain a "CD Drive?" And more to the point, how can I remove this partition using Windows XP or Ubuntu? Update I previously asked for an XP solution, but finding none, I have tried Ubuntu, also without success. Gparted doesn't see the "CD" portion as a device at all, and from bash, any chmod changes I try tell me that the file system is read-only. Any ideas?

• Sensei mouse sensitivity

  I've recently acquired a Steelseries Sensei. Despite being a great mouse, I'm having some trouble finding settings that I can get used to... The mouse engine allows me to set a CPI from 0 to 5700. It also allows me to set it even higher, calling it "DCPI" (Double CPI), from 5701 to 11400. On Window's Control Panel, there's a "Pointer Speed" slider and a "Enhance Pointer Precision" checkbox (wording may be different as I use a non-english version). The majority of games allow me to set an in-game "Mouse Sensitivity". Some games let me use a "Raw mouse input". I'm already familiar with the basics of CPI/DPI - "higher CPI means less hand movement", but what are the differences between all those options? Is there a "better" or "worst" setting?

I followed these steps: Made the model class : Person with one property for now - @property (readwrite, assign) int salary; In the application delegate class I initialized a mutable array : personArray with certain objects like this: Person *person1 = [[Person alloc] init]; person1.salary = 5000; Person *person2 = [[Person alloc] init]; person2.salary = 15000; Person *person3 = [[Person alloc] init]; person3.salary = 7000; Person *person4 = [[Person alloc] init]; person4.salary = 9000; Person *person5 = [[Person alloc] init]; person5.salary = 11000; personArray= [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithObjects:person1, person2, person3, person4, person5,nil]; In IB I dropped a NSArrayController object, set its mode as Class - Person, added key salary in attribute pane. Then in bindings pane, binded contents array to ApplicationDelegate class with model key path set to self.personArray. Dropped a NSTextField on window. Binded its value to ArrayController object. Assigned controller key as - arrangedObjects. Assigned Model key path to @avg.salary When I executed the application I found no value being displayed in the text field. • URL Encoding using C#

  I have an application which I've developed for a friend. It sends a POST request to the VB forum software and logs someone in (with out setting cookies or anything). Once the user is logged in I create a variable that creates a path on their local machine. c:\tempfolder\date\username The problem is that some usernames are throwing "Illegal chars" exception. For example if my username was mas|fenix it would throw an exception.. Path.Combine( _ Environment.GetFolderPath(System.Environment.SpecialFolder.CommonApplicationData), _ DateTime.Now.ToString("ddMMyyhhmm") + "-" + form1.username) I don't want to remove it from the string, but a folder with their username is created through FTP on a server. And this leads to my second question. If I am creating a folder on the server can I leave the "illegal chars" in? I only ask this because the server is Linux based, and I am not sure if Linux accepts it or not.. EDIT: It seems that URL encode is NOT what I want.. Here's what I want to do: old username = mas|fenix new username = mas%xxfenix Where %xx is the ASCII value or any other value that would easily identify the character.

• Any reason to prefer video adapter with two DVI ports versus one DVI/one VGA for DVI/VGA optional dual monitors?

  I am looking to buy a new video card to power two identical monitors. The monitors came with both DVI and VGA cables, so I am able to use either. My current video card has two DVI ports on the back, so I have both monitors connected via DVI at present. I have noticed that many modern video cards have a DVI/VGA/HDMI port trio and that cards with two DVI ports seem somewhat more scarce. Essentially, I have more options available to me for purchasing cards with a DVI/VGA/HDMI trio than with a DVI/DVI duo. My question is, are there any sound reasons to go to the extra effort of finding a card with two DVI ports versus simply running one of my monitors through a DVI and one through a VGA on a DVI/VGA/HDMI card? Quality differences? Any variety of image asymmetry? Configuration difficulties (I dual boot Windows and Ubuntu)? Anything else?

  We have a server that sends our weekly newsletter to subscribers, To prevent people like Hotmail or Yahoo from blocking us due to sending too many simultaneous emails to them, Is there a way we can stagger email, or rate-limit outbound emails from postfix? Keep in mind, I dont want the mailserver to stop queueing mail or accepting new messages, Simply defer delivery if there are more then 3-4 messages per destination domain/ipaddress, or something similar. Note: I dont want a Sender Throttle, as described in a similar question, here. I'm looking more for a recipient throttle but haven't had any luck finding out how to do so with PolicyD or Anvil services, and was wondering if anyone else has accomplished such a task.

We like to do this A) so we know what we're getting into and B) so we aren't clouded by the inevitable post vendor demo euphoria. I have scoured the internet for cons and can only find one: price. • File permissions with FileSystemObject - CScript.exe says one thing, Classic ASP says another...

  I have a classic ASP page - written in JScript - that's using Scripting.FileSystemObject to save files to a network share - and it's not working. ("Permission denied") The ASP page is running under IIS using Windows authentication, with impersonation enabled. If I run the following block of code locally via CScript.exe: var objNet = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Network"); WScript.Echo(objNet.ComputerName); WScript.Echo(objNet.UserName); WScript.Echo(objNet.UserDomain); var fso = new ActiveXObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject"); var path = "\\\\myserver\\my_share\\some_path"; if (fso.FolderExists(path)) { WScript.Echo("Yes"); } else { WScript.Echo("No"); } I get the (expected) output: MY_COMPUTER dylan.beattie MYDOMAIN Yes If I run the same code as part of a .ASP page, substituting Response.Write for WScript.Echo I get this output: MY_COMPUTER dylan.beattie MYDOMAIN No Now - my understanding is that the WScript.Network object will retrieve the current security credentials of the thread that's actually running the code. If this is correct - then why is the same user, on the same domain, getting different results from CScript.exe vs ASP? If my ASP code is running as dylan.beattie, then why can't I see the network share? And if it's not running as dylan.beattie, why does WScript.Network think it is?

• How to enable connection security for WMI firewall rules when using VAMT 2.0?

  I want to use VAMT 2.0 to install product keys and active software in remote machines. Everything works fine as long as the ASync-In, DCOM-In, and WMI-In Windows Firewall rules are enabled and the action is set to Allow the connection. However, when I try using Allow the connection if it is secure (regardless of the connection security option chosen) VAMT won't connect to the remote machine. I tried using wbemtest and the error always is “The RPC server is unavailable”, error code 0x800706ba. How do I setup at least some level of connection security for remote WMI access for VAMT to work? I googled for correct VAMT setup, read the Volume Activation 2.0 Step-by-Step guide, but no luck finding anything about connection security.

• Spaces and backslashes in Visual Studio build events

  I have an application that is supposed to aid my project in terms of pre- and post-build event handling. I'm using ndesk.options for command line argument parsing. Which gave me weird results when my project path contains spaces. I thought this was the fault of ndesk.options but I guess my own application is to blame. I call my application as a post-built event like so: build.exe --in="$(ProjectDir)" --out="c:\out\" A simple foreach over args[] displays the following: --in=c:\my project" --out=c:\out" What happened is that the last " in each parameter was treated as if it was escaped. Thus the trailing backslash was removed. And the whole thing is treated as a single argument. Now I thought I was being smart by simply escaping the first " as well, like so: build.exe --in=\"$(ProjectDir)" --out=\"c:\out\" In that case the resulting args[] look like this: --path="c:\my project" --out="c:\out" The trailing backslash in the parameters is still swallowed and the first parameter is now split up. Passing this args[] to ndesk.options will then yield wrong results. How should the right command line look so that the correct elements end up in the correct args[] slots? Alternatively, how is one supposed to parse command line arguments like these with or without ndesk.options? Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks in advance

Last week, I had installed slapd on Ubuntu 11, and was able to authenticate against it from OS X Lion after finding the following blog post: Fixing OpenLDAP Authentication on OS X Lion This suggests running the following commands to fix the authentication problem /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string CRAM-MD5" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string NTLM" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string GSSAPI" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist However, I ran these commands on OS X Mountain Lion, and I am still unable to authenticate. I can't even use the Directory Editor app to examine the AD. I am however able to bind to the server via python-ldap's ldap.simple_bind_s('cn=admin,dc=foo,dc=net,'secret'). The error I am getting when trying to use Director Editor is Error Code (5000)

• Setting default version on Azure Blob Storage?

  What is the easiest way, without having to create your own utility, to set the default service version to the latest in Azure Blob Storage ? http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/dd894041 There is basically nothing to be set in the Azure portal and I am having a difficult time finding working utilities to use for Azure. For some reason Azure is defaulting to the oldest version which does not send things like the http range header for example. Any utility that can do this ? Thank you.

• One Model to Rule Them All - VS2010 UML, ADO.NET Entity Data Model, and T4

  I worked on a fairly large project a while back where we modeled the classes in Enterprise Architect and generated the (partial) POCO classes (complete with model-driven business rule validations), persistence (NHibernate mapping file) and DDL. Based on certain model attributes we could flag alternate generation strategies or indicate that a particular portion would be entirely hand-coded. There was a good deal of initial investment, but it paid large dividends over the lifetime of a 15 developer, 3 year project. I'm investigating doing something similar with the current Microsoft technology stack. The place I'm stuck is that class modeling is done with the VS 2010 UML tools, but logical data modeling is done with Entity Data Modeler. Is it a reasonable path to use VS 2010 UML as the "single source of truth" and code generate the edmx files based on the class model? That's the inverse of the common path to create the entity model and use a POCO generator to generate classes. However, a good class model can be used to generate much more than just the properties so I tend to view it as a better choice than the entity model.
