Are there benefits to defragmenting the Windows registry? Or at least rewrite it in some way so as to take less space? Is there a reliable and safe tool to do this?
As you might know sandboxing software doesn't work in 64bit Windows due to patchguard. What are the alternatives for a person looking to test untrusted / temporary software?
Edit: @Nick I'd prefer an alternative to VMs as I'm not happy with the extended startup time, the extra login sequences and the memory overhead that accompanies booting a VM…
What is the recommended procedure to install sshd on Windows 7 Enterprise ? I have already installed cygwin and openssh on this computer.
i'm open to non-cygwin sshd as long as there won't be any compatibility issues with cygwin related programs.

I'm about to buy an iTouch, mainly because of the iCal. I'm a Windows user, so does anyone know if these two play well together? I'd prefer to be able to update my calendar from either the computer or iTouch and sync.

I want to setup another Hyper-V VM for installing Matlabs/doing some compute-intensive programming using C.
I keep thinking that Windows Server HPC 2008 is designed for this sort of work. Would I be on the right track to setup a single VM with this OS and install this software? Or is HPC more for grid/distributed computing?
Thanks
I have a number of scheduled tasks which simply open a web page in Windows Server 2008 R2. They used to run and end without abending, but now they open and stay open and I have to setup the task to quit them by force before their next scheduled run. I've thought about installing CURL or WGET, but is there a way to do this with R2 without…
Hi,
I've a command for netcat which is for Linux, but I need to run it on my Windows through cmd.
The Linux command is:
nc localhost 4444 < myfile.file
and in particular I need to get the "<" to work; means I need to get it to run a file on the setting above.

While I've adapted to most things in windows 8 quite easily, I miss the 'combined' search feature of win 7 where pressing Win then typing would bring up all of the applications, settings and files (not that I ever really used the files part). Now, if I want to search settings I press win, start typing, then have to press the down arrow…
I frequently reinstall Windows from scratch because it has become to slow. I wonder if I were to uninstall every application, followed by a defrag and CCleaner job, would it be as fast as a fresh install. Does anyone know?
Does anyone know if there is a way of recording things (live sport) on Sky Player using Windows Media Center. It has a built in extension for Sky Player but no record functionality.
Has anyone else tried this with any luck?
Is it possible to setup one single machine with Windows 7 x64 OS and somehow make it work as if it's part of a certain domain? So domain controller would be simulated in some way? I would like to avoid VMs and make it actually work on one machine with non server OS.
Is there even a simpler way of doing it?
