• Mono and Apache are serving files with no ASP.NET processing

  On a new Rackspace Cloud Server box (Ubuntu 9.10), I've installed apache2, libapache2-mod-mono, and mod-mono-server2. I've disabled mod_mono and enabled mod_mono_auto, but whatever I do, requests for Default.aspx return the actual contents of Default.aspx (in this case, "This is a marker file generated by the precompilation tool, and should not be deleted!") I've installed XSP, and it looks like it works okay, but I'd like to use Apache with mod_mono (seems a more common configuration) if I can get it running. However, this is no error messages and no hints, with Google obviously not terribly helpful. What else can I look for to make sure I'm configured correctly? How can I test further?

• getting detailed information about structured exceptions

  My Visual C++ application is compiled with /EHA option, letting me catch structured exceptions (division by zero, access violation, etc). I then translate those exceptions to my own exception class using _set_se_translator(). My goal is to improve our logging of those types of exceptions. I can get the type of exception from the EXCEPTION_RECORD structure, and the exception address. I would like to be able to gather more information, like the source file/location where the exception is thrown, the call stack, etc. Is that possible? I do create an exception minidump on structured exceptions - is there a tool to automatically get the call stack from that?

• Development deployment: how to achive edit-and-reload with JSP pages?

  Out project uses WebLogic as web-server and uses mostly JSP for user interface. With standard setup it is possible to copy edited JSP files into the exploded deployment directory and WebLogic will automatically pick them up, recompile and serve new content through HTTP. However, is it possible to avoid copying at all, so that I just save a file in my editor and it is immediately (well, after a couple of seconds for recompilation) visible? The project uses Apache Ant as building tool. I would imagine what I want would be possible with symlinks (since this is for deployment only I don't care about cross-platformity), but then I don't see how it is possible to symlink lots of files at once with Ant. So, how do I achieve save-JSP-hit-F5-in-browser functionality either with some setting in WebLogic; or with symlinking JSPs using Apache Ant (instead of copying them as is done now); or something else completely?

• Next step for Python app using Sqlite db

  I want to write a db program in Python using Sqlite. I have the db table structure planned, and am ready to move to the next step, which I think is to work any bugs out of the db structure. I am totally inexperienced in development except for writing the original db (written in MS Access), and an Intro to C++ class (OOP concepts and console C++ programs). Is it time to test the db structure? If so, what's the best way, and what tool(s) should I use? Thank you.

• URL Navigation and SQL Insertion After RadioButtonList Selection

  Good Morning, I have a radiobuttonlist in my ASP.NET webforms application that is used as a voting tool. The concept is as follows: Users will vote for the blurb in the contentplaceholder using the radiobuttonlist. My list item values are 1 through 3 and my list item text is something like low, medium and high. Questions: 1. I want to save and accumulate votes for a given blurb. The blurb ID is referenced in a meta tag on the content page. How do I reference the meta tag in my SQL insert statement? 2. When the radiobuttonlist is used, can it cause the next content page to be loaded after the SQL insert is done? That is, I don't necessarily want the user to make the radiobuttonlist selection, then have to click a separate button to cast vote and move to next page. I want all that done in the radiobuttonlist. • Adobe Livecycle performance

  I have installed Adobe Livecycle in order to convert MSWORD files to PDF from a web-app. Specifically, I use the DocConverter tool. Previously I have used OpenOffice UNO SDK, but I have found some problems with particular documents. Now, the conversion is ok, but the conversion time is huge. These are the times to convert documents of different sizes via Openoffice and via Livecycle. Could you suggest anything? • How do I use the Silicon Laboratories IDE with SDCC?

  I'm thinking about using a microcontroller with an 8051 core from Silicon Laboratories. I hope that I can use C rather than assembly language, so I installed SDCC. I installed the "Silicon Laboratories IDE" to download the executable binaries to the on-chip Flash program memory. It also supposedly can be set up (under the Project Tool Chain Integration menu) to use "any" 8051 compiler. I tried to set it up to use SDCC, but every time I hit the "Assemble/Compile File" button it tells me "Compiler process did not sucessfully complete." How do I get new C code I write onto the SiLabs C8051F310 chip? Is there a web site with a step-by-step HOWTO? (Would it be easier to use a MAKEFILE that calls SDCC, only using the "Silicon Laboratories IDE" for the very last step of downloading the executable binary to the chip?)

• Internet Explorer generates extra br

  I have an issue where Internet Explorer is generating an additional br element that is not in my source. The additional br effects the page's layout and is visible when using the developer tool. I've tried removing all hard returns between the surrounding elements but the additional br persists. Firefox and Chrome do not have this issue. Ideas on what I can do to fix the issue? • Backup Active Directory only

  Hi, I have a server with Windows Server 2008. I want to install a new Windows Server 2008 R2 on a new hard disk but on a same machine. What is the way to backup/migrate only Active Directory? I found that migration must be done with Microsoft Active Directory Migration Tool, but it requires both source and target domains running at the same time. Any other suggests are to use an ordinary system backup/restore, but this will restore all other roles, whereas I need only Active Directory role on the new server.

• Call iconv from Ruby through system()

  I have a problem with iconv tool. I try to call it from rake file in that way: Dir.glob("*.txt") do |file| system("iconv -f UTF-8 -t 'ASCII//TRANSLIT' #{ file } >> ascii_#{ file }") end But one file is converted partly (size of partialy converted: 10059092 bytes, before convertion: 10081854). Comparing this two files prove that not all content was writen to ASCII. When I call this command explicit from shell it works perfectly. Other smaller files are converted without problems. Is there any limitations on iconv or Ruby's system()?

• SpringSource Roo Controller Removal

  Hello, Environment: Windows XP, SpringSource Tool Suite 2.3.2, Roo 1.0.2.Release, Java 1.6.0_10, tc Server 6.0 I'm using the canned Roo generated code. I created an entity and associated controller. Then deleted both classes. The problem I'm seeing is the Roo created home page still shows the "Create/List" section for the deleted classes. I'm executing this within the tc Server, within Eclipse. Any ideas on how to get Roo to update the home page? Thanks, Steve

• What's the best way to change the namespace of a highly referenced class?

  I am attempting to move a highly referenced class from one namespace to another. Simply moving the file into the new project which has a different root namespace results in over 1100 errors throughout my solution. Some references to the class involve fully qualified namescape referencing and others involve the importing of the namespace. I have tried using a refactoring tool (Refactor Pro) to rename the namespace, in the hope all references to the class would change, but this resulted in the aforementioned problem. Anyone have ideas of how to tackle this challenge without needing to drill into every file manually and changing the fully qualified namespace or importing the new one if it doesn't exist already? Thanks.

• aspnet_reqsql not working at all

  I would like to create the ASP.NET User database template on a database of my own, because I'd like to fully untegrate the user system with the rest of my DB. As I've read, i needed to use the aspnet_regsql tool. I put all the options (because my database is running on SQLEXPRESS and is in an mdf file in my project's folder). the program starts and seemingly runs without any errors, however, when I open the database after that, not tables or stored procedures have been added. One more thing: I did one more test. I intentionally gave the -d option a wrong mdf file address, and surprisingly, the program "finished" correctly, yet no file was crated or modified whatsoever.

• MFC resource.h command/message IDs

  Hi I'm working on an MFC application, that got pretty messy over years and over different teams of developers. The resource.h file, which contains all command/message mappings grew pretty big over time, and has lots of problems (like duplicate IDs). I am not proficient with MFC, so the question might sound pretty stupid... MSDN docs mention that Command IDs and Message IDs should not be less than WM_USER and WM_APP correspondingly. I saw that most of the command IDs in resource.h generated by Visual Studio begin around 100. Shouldn't this cause some interfering with MFC/Windows commands and messages, that overlap with the application defined IDs? For example, I have a command ID : #define ID_MY_ID 101 and there is a windows command that has the same ID. When MC send this command to the APP, it's handled like an application defined ID_MY_ID, and the app is taking unnecessary actions. Is it a possible scenario? Also, is there some third party tool that helps to profile the project resources?

• SVN Mac oSX issue - permissions?

  Hello there, /Volumes/sites is a connection to a samba share that hosts some of our sites. We authorise using a username & password that is the same user/pass to log onto the mac. When committing, (or even doing a cleanup) from the Mac Client side using the svn command line tool or SCPlugin, this error occurs: Commit succeeded, but other errors follow: Error bumping revisions post-commit (details follow): In directory '/Volumes/sites/foobar/public_html' Error processing command 'committed' in '/Volumes/sites/foobar/public_html' Error replacing text-base of 'index.php' Can't move '/Volumes/sites/foobar/public_html/.svn/tmp/text-base/index.php.svn-base' to '/Volumes/sites/foobar/public_html/.svn/text-base/index.php.svn-base': Operation not permitted Any ideas? I think it's to do with permissions on the mac side not being able to move files around on the samba share. Apologies if my question is kinda vague so any extra information I can give please shout. • How to include LinkedIn user profile page feeds in web application?

  I am building a web application in which I would like to include the user's LinkedIn profile page feeds. Is this possible? What I envision is the user comes to the web application and adds the complete URL for their Linked user profile in a text box and I would get the feeds for that user page. Would it be possible to do this with jquery? Or should I be looking at some other tool? I trying to make it more clear, I want to create a widget kinda of app for my web app where user enters a complete url of the linkedin user profile page and I have to retrieve the feeds of that particular user and display it. It should be dynamic in nature, if another user enters a another url into the text box I should be able to get the feeds from that particular user profile page.

• eclipse CDT - Cannot open .gcda files

  I am developing a coverage data tool in eclipse cdt. I used gcov and build and execute my C program to generate .gcda and .gcno files. When double click on .gcda file to see the coverage data, below error message displays. An error has occurred. See error log for more details. org.eclipse.linuxtools.binutils.utils.STSymbolManager.demangle(Lorg/eclipse/cdt/core/IBinaryParser$IBinaryObject;Ljava/lang/String;Lorg/eclipse/core/resources/IProject;)Ljava/lang/String; But I already downloaded and save org.eclipse.linuxtools.binutils_4.0.0.201209191645.jar into plugins directory. • Developing ebooks- software?

  I've written a few documents for friends or blogs on software testing, job hunting and android development. I've been toying with the idea of producing some programming-related ebooks. However, developing these in Word or OpenOffice seems too amateurish compared to some of the fantastically produced books out there. I'm proficient in LaTeX but have never seen it used to produce ... 'marketable' works - just technical papers, maths, etc - which is great for code but not for distribution. Has anyone seen any good (preferably free / open source) tool or software for developing/compiling professional-looking marketable ebooks (probably to .pdf or .exe format - but I can take care of that part if need be)? And more importantly, ones that are easy to use to format any code samples or snippets that I may choose to include. Much appreciated.

• If you are forced to use an Anemic domain model, where do you put your business logic and calculated

  Our current O/RM tool does not really allow for rich domain models, so we are forced to utilize anemic (DTO) entities everywhere. This has worked fine, but I continue to struggle with where to put basic object-based business logic and calculated fields. Current layers: Presentation Service Repository Data/Entity Our repository layer has most of the basic fetch/validate/save logic, although the service layer does a lot of the more complex validation & saving (since save operations also do logging, checking of permissions, etc).   My friends and I are starting a game like Pokemon and we wanted to know how will we add monsters to the game? We're using VisualBasic because my friend's brother said it would be easier. So far we can put pictures of the monsters on the screen and you can click to attack and stuff. Right now when we want to add a monster we have to make a new window. This will take us a long time to make all the windows for each type of monster. Is there a tool or something to make this go faster? How do game companies do this?

• Documentation of a software project

  I am working with a team that works on a very large software project, we have tons of Documentation that is written in MS WORD format with nohyperlinked indexes, no search ability. Everyday we waste our time trying to find the exact document or reference. I was thinking if there was way or even a professional tool that would convert all this into a wiki format and maybe with a little manual (painful) help be organised into something that improves the accessibility. I use Google Desktop Search to make my life a little easier but its not the best solution I just want to know if any of you faced similar problems and possible solutions to this issue.

  I am developing a profile-based web application where each user is assigned there own url through their username & iis rewrite mod's magic. A typical user's profile url would be http://www.mymark.com/mike Each user is also created a blog in a multi-user wordpress installation. The wordpress url would look like this: http://www.mymark.com/blog/mike I am trying to use the rewrite module to create more canonical urls for the user (http://www.mymark.com/mike/blog), and have tried several regex variations that I have created through RegExr(a regex generation tool) and come up with this as the pattern to match (www.|)mymark.com/([^/]+)/blog but haven't had any success so far. • sqlcipher command line not working

  I have a encrypted sqlite db and its key. (Which is generated by an android program). However, when I open the db in command line I can not read the db. The command line tool is installed by: brew install sqlcipher I open the database by: sqlcipher EnDB.db >pragma key="6b74fcd"; >select * from bizinfo; It keeps telling me "Error: file is encrypted or is not a database" However, if I open the database file with gui app sqlite database browser (which is a windows program and I run it in wine). It pops up a window for me to enter the key, with 6b74fcd as the key it successfully read the database. As I want to automatically process the db in the future, I can not depend on the GUI. Do you know why the command line is not working?
