  I am trying to use CoreData to populate a UITableView. I have been using the developer "Locations" project, and I think I have everything correct. But, now I am getting the following error when I build: request for member 'tableView' in something not a structure or union Why would it be confused about tableView? I am using it many times in the methods. The errors seem to be coming from: [self.tableView insertRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; [self.tableView scrollToRowAtIndexPath:[NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:0 inSection:0] atScrollPosition:UITableViewScrollPositionTop animated:YES]; Ideas?

• Relating NP-Complete problems to real world problems

  I have a decent grasp of NP Complete problems; that's not the issue. What I don't have is a good sense of where they turn up in "real" programming. Some (like knapsack and traveling salesman) are obvious, but others don't seem obviously connected to "real" problems. I've had the experience several times of struggling with a difficult problem only to realize it is a well known NP Complete problem that has been researched extensively. If I had recognized the connection more quickly I could have saved quite a bit of time researching existing solutions to my specific problem. Are there any resources (online or print) that specifically connect NP Complete to real world instances?

• Python's FTPLib too slow ?

  I have been playing around with Python's FTP library and am starting to think that it is too slow as compared to using a script file in DOS? I run sessions where I download thousands of data files (I think I have over 8 million right now). My observation is that the download process seems to take five to ten times as long in Python than it does as compared to using the ftp commands in the DOS shell. Since I don't want anyone to fix my code I have not included any. I am more interested in understanding if my observation is valid or if I need to tinker more with the arguments.

• how to parse jquery ajax xhtml response?

  Sorry if this has been posted many times. But I've tried many variations and it still doesn't work. The HTML comes back from the jquery AJAX call fine and I am trying to remove the header and footers from the response using: // none of these work for me $("#content", data); $("#content", $(data)); $(data).find("#content").html() I've breakpoint the response to verify the #content exists by inspected $(data) and using alert to print out the data's text. I've also try using "body" or "a" as selectors, but it always come back as undefined. I've read in this post that you can't pull in the full XHTML document: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1050333/jquery-ajax-parse-response-text. But I can't find the answer's quote anymore, maybe it's outdated? Has anyone ran into this problem? Many thanks, Steve

  I have just started to look at the new "System.Threading.Tasks" goodness in .Net 4.0, and would like to know if there is any build in support for limiting the number of concurrent tasks that run at once, or if this should be manually handled. E.G: If I need to call a calculation method 100 times, is there a way to set up 100 Tasks, but have only 5 execute simultaneously? The answer may just be to create 5 tasks, call Task.WaitAny, and create a new Task as each previous one finishes. I just want to make sure I am not missing a trick if there is a better way to do this. Thanks for any help.

  I'm registering a preference change listener like this (in the onCreate() of my main activity): SharedPreferences prefs = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); prefs.registerOnSharedPreferenceChangeListener( new SharedPreferences.OnSharedPreferenceChangeListener() { public void onSharedPreferenceChanged( SharedPreferences prefs, String key) { System.out.println(key); } }); The trouble is, the listener is not always called. It works for the first few times a preference is changed, and then it is no longer called until I uninstall and reinstall the app. No amount of restarting the application seems to fix it. I found a mailing list thread reporting the same problem, but no one really answered him. What am I doing wrong?

• Only send populated object properties over WCF?

  I have an object that is being sent across WCF that is essentially a property holder - it can potentially have a large number of properties, i.e. up to 100, but in general only a small subset will be set, up to 10 for instance. It seems like a potential waste of bandwidth to send over the full object.

• How do i compile a static library (fat) for armv6, armv7 and i386

  I know this question has been posed several times, but my goal is slightly different with regard to what I have found searching the web. Specifically, I am already able to build a static library for iPhone, but the final fat file I am able to build only contains arm and i386 architectures (and I am not sure to what arm refers: is v6 or v7?). I am not able to compile specifically for armv6 and armv7 and them merge both architectures using lipo. The lipo tool complains that the same architecture (arm, not armv6 or armv7) is present in both the armv6 and armv7 libraries. Can someone explain exactly how to build for armv6 and armv7, and them merge these libraries into a fat file using lipo?

• Can I force MySql table name case sensitivity on file systems that aren't case sensitive

  So our target environment is linux, making mysql case-sensitive by default. I am aware that we can make our linux environment not case sensitive with the lower_case_table_names variable, but we would rather not. We have a few times been bitten with a case mismatch because our dev rigs are OSX, and mysql is not case sensitive there. Is there a way we can force table names to be case sensitive on my OSX install of MySql (5.0.83 if that matters) so that we catch a table name case mismatch prior to deploying to the integration servers running on linux?

  Hello all, I'm in the exact same situation as this old question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2077558/warn-could-not-register-destruction-callback In short: I see a warning saying that a destruction callback could not be registered for some beans. My question is: since the beans whose destruction callback cannot be registered are two persistance beans, could this be the source of a memory leak? I am experiencing a leak in my app. Although the session timeout is set (to 30 minutes), my profiler shows me more instances of the hibernate SessionImpl each time I run a thread dump. The number of instances of SessionImpl is exactly the number of times I tried to login between two thread dumps. Thanks for your help...

• jQuery Ajax (beforeSend and complete) working properly on FireFox but not on IE8 and Chrome

  I am using jQuery ajax version 1.4.1 in my MVC application (though the issue I am discussing was same with the old jQuery version 3.2.1) as well, to check during customer registration if the username is already registered. As the user clicks on the "Check Availibility" button, I am showing a busy image in place of the check button (actually hiding the check button and showing the image) while checking the availibility on the server and then displaying a message. It is a Sync call (async: false) and I used beforeSend: and complete: to show and hide the busy image and the check button. This thing is working well on Firefox but in IE 8 and Chrome, neither the busy image appear nor the check button hides rather the check button remained pressed as the whole thing has hanged. The available and not available messages appear correctly though.   SLOVED see commend I develop am webservice based on apache tomcat 6.0.26, apache cxf 2.2.7, spring 3.0, hibernate 3.3 and sybase sqlanywhere 11. im using the latest JDBC Driver from SYBASE jconn.jar Version 6. The persistence layer is based on spring + hibernate dao, the connection is configured via a JNDI datasoure (META-INF directory). It seems that, during longer times of inactivity, the connection from the webservice to the database is closed. Exception: java.sql.SQLException: JZ0C0: Connection is already closed. • Why the CCLayer can't use a for loop in draw method??

  I have a CClayer, that have a draw method, every second, it will call the draw method 60 times.   We have a cookie management library that writes a cookie containing some sensitive information, encrypted with Rijndael. The cookie encrypts and decrypts fine in unit tests (using Moq), works fine for MVC web applications, but when called from an ASP.net 2.0 website, the cookie cannot be decrypted. "Padding is invalid and cannot be removed." We are sure that the cookie value is valid because we tested it 10,000 times with random data in a unit test. There is something about what ASP.NET 2.0 does when it reads and writes the cookie that causes trouble. There has to be a gotcha. Any suggestions?

  Hi everyone, In Linux. There is an srand() function, where you supply a seed and it will guarantee the same sequence of pseudorandom numbers in subsequent calls to the random() function afterwards. Lets say, I want to store this pseudo random sequence by remembering this seed value. Furthermore, let's say I want the 100 thousandth number in this pseudo random sequence later. One way, would be to supply the seed number using srand(), and then calling random() 100 thousand times, and remembering this number. Is there a better way of skipping all 99,999 other numbers in the pseudo random list and directly getting the 100 thousandth number in the list. thanks, m

  Hey, I have a list of numbers (integers) (say, from 1 to 10). They're not necessarily consecutive, but they are in ascending order. I've prompted the user multiple times to enter a choice of the available numbers. When that number is entered, it is removed from the list along with any of its factors that may be there. I've prevented the user from selecting prime numbers. However, at some point in time, there may be non-prime numbers there, which have no factors remaining. I'm relatively new to Python, so I'm having trouble implementing: Checking if the number selected has no factors remaining (even if it is not prime). Checking if only prime numbers remain, or numbers without factors. I'm thinking of using for statements, but I'm not sure exactly how to implement them. Can anyone offer advice, or code? Thanks in advance... PS. In case anyone's wondering, I'm doing an implementation of the game of Taxman in Python.

• In Javascript event handling, why "return false" or "event.preventDefault()" and "stopping the event

  It is said that when we handle a "click event", returning false or calling event.preventDefault() makes a difference, in which the difference is that preventDefault will only prevent the default event action to occur, i.e. a page redirect on a link click, a form submission, etc. and return false will also stop the event flow. Does that mean, if the click event is registered several times for several actions, using $('#clickme').click(function() { … }) returning false will stop the other handlers from running? • Scrollable div on iPhone without using 2 fingers?

  Hi there; I've got a UIWebView embedded in my iPhone app, and I'd like to keep a locked header and footer DIV on the page at all times, with a scrollable center DIV. I know that I could do this using a header/footer that are UIView controls, but I want the header and footer to be HTML divs, as a pure HTML/JS/CSS solution will be easier to port to Android/PalmPre/AdobeAir, which is going to be on my todo list relatively soon. I can do this using techniques like the one mentioned here: http://defunc.com/blog/?p=94 But this requires that the user use 2 fingers to scroll the div, which is not satisfactory to me... They're in the form assert(a == b, a + " is not equal to " + b) Because some of these asserts can be in code called a huge amount of times the string concat starts to add up. assert is defined as: def assert(assumption : Boolean, message : Any) = .... why isn't it defined as: def assert(assumption : Boolean, message : => Any) = .... That way it would evaluate lazily. Given that it's not defined that way is there an inline way of calling assert with a message param that is evaluated lazily? Thanks

• SQL Server, temporary tables with truncate vs table variable with delete

  I have a stored procedure inside which I create a temporary table that typically contains between 1 and 10 rows. This table is truncated and filled many times during the stored procedure. It is truncated as this is faster than delete. Do I get any performance increase by replacing this temporary table with a table variable when I suffer a penalty for using delete (truncate does not work on table variables) Whilst table variables are mainly in memory and are generally faster than temp tables do I loose any benefit by having to delete rather than truncate?
