  • Problem with passing parameters to SQL procedure using VBA

    - by Stefan Åstrand
    Hi, I am trying to pass @intDocumentNo and @intCustomerNo to a stored procedure using VBA but only @intCustomerNo is updated in dbo.tblOrderHead. I don't think the problem is with the procedure because if I enter the values manually it runs properly. What am I doing wrong? VBA Code: Private Sub intCustomerNo_Click() Dim cmdCommand As New ADODB.Command With cmdCommand .ActiveConnection = CurrentProject.Connection .CommandType = adCmdStoredProc .CommandText = "uspSelectCustomer" '@intDocumentNo .Parameters("@intDocumentNo").Value = Forms![frmSalesOrder].[IntOrderNo] '@intCustomerNo .Parameters("@intCustomerNo").Value = Me![intCustomerNo] .Execute End With DoCmd.Close Forms![frmSalesOrder].Requery End Sub Procedure: UPDATE dbo.tblOrderHead SET dbo.tblOrderHead.intCustomerNo = @intCustomerNo , dbo.tblOrderHead.intPaymentCode = dbo.tblCustomer.intPaymentCode, dbo.tblOrderHead.txtDeliveryCode = dbo.tblCustomer.txtDeliveryCode, dbo.tblOrderHead.txtRegionCode = dbo.tblCustomer.txtRegionCode, dbo.tblOrderHead.txtCurrencyCode = dbo.tblCustomer.txtCurrencyCode, dbo.tblOrderHead.txtLanguageCode = dbo.tblCustomer.txtLanguageCode FROM dbo.tblOrderHead INNER JOIN dbo.tblCustomer ON dbo.tblOrderHead.intCustomerNo = dbo.tblCustomer.intCustomerNo AND dbo.tblOrderHead.intOrderNo = @intDocumentNo

  • Is it possible to filter data used by pivot table based on filtering the rows in a source table in Excel?

    - by Geoffrey Stoel
I have developed a dashboard in Excel 2007 that uses one source table in a sheet (being filled with a query on our data warehouse) and multiple pivot tables making different cross sections on this data. I use the GETPIVOTDATA in almost a hundred formulas to give me the right value for a specific indicator in my dashboard. This all works fine. However I now have received the question to make the dashboard for 5 different segments. As you can imagine I don't want to create 5 different workbooks for this and need to maintain the dashboard logic on all of them. So my question is the following. Is it possible to automatically (through VBA or any other means) filter the results in my source table which is the source for my pivot tables and thus for my dashboard values. So schematically: DATABASE_VIEW -- SOURCE_TABLE -- 12 pivot tables -- 100 GETPIVOTDATA functions Preferably I would like to load all the segments in the source_table (one view on my database) and then filter the data in the source table, which results in filterd source_dat for my pivots. This way I can (without requerying the db) quickly change between segments in the dashboards (refreshing pivots only). Data in the source table has the column: CUSTOMER_SEGMENT available to filter upon. Any help is appreciated. Geoffrey

  • loading Data in VBA from a text file

    - by omegayen
I am not very familiar with VBA but need to use it for a new software program I am using (not Microsoft related) I have a text file that has columns of data I would like to read into VBA. Specifically the text file has 4 entries per row. Thus I would like to load in the column vectors (N by 1). The text file is separated by a space between each entry. So for example I want to load in column one and save it as array A, then column two and save as array B, then column three and save as array C, and then column four and save as array D. This code snippet found below from http://www.tek-tips.com/faqs.cfm?fid=482 is something I found that can load in text to an array, but I need to adapt it to be able to save the columns as different arrays as specified above... Open "MyFile.txt" For Input As #1 ReDim Txt$(0) Do While Not EOF(1) ReDim Preserve Txt$(UBound(Txt$) + 1) Input #1, Txt$(UBound(Txt$)) Loop Close #1

  • Excel VBA Application.OnTime. I think its a bad idea to use this... thoughts either way?

    - by FinancialRadDeveloper
I have a number of users I support that are asking for things to happen automatically ( well more automagically but that's another point!). One want events to happen every 120 secs ( see my other question ) and also another wants 1 thing to happen say at 5pm each business day. This has to be on the Excel sheet so therefore VBA as addins etc will be a no no, as it needs to be self contained. I have a big dislike of using Application.OnTime I think its dangerous and unreliable, what does everyone else think?

  • Refreshing imported MySQL data with MySQL for Excel

    - by Javier Rivera
Welcome to another blog post from the MySQL for Excel Team. Today we're going to talk about a new feature included since MySQL for Excel 1.3.0, you can install the latest GA or maintenance version using the MySQL Installer or optionally you can download directly any GA or non-GA version from the MySQL Developer Zone.As some users suggested in our forums we should be maintaining the link between tables and Excel not only when editing data through the Edit MySQL Data option, but also when importing data via Import MySQL Data. Before 1.3.0 this process only provided you with an offline copy of the Table's data into Excel and you had no way to refresh that information from the DB later on. Now, with this new feature we'll show you how easy is to work with the latest available information at all times. This feature is transparent to you (it doesn't require additional steps to work as long as the users had the Create an Excel Table for the imported MySQL table data option enabled. To ensure you have this option checked, click over Advanced Options... after the Import Data dialog is displayed). The current blog post assumes you already know how to import data into excel, you could always take a look at our previous post How To - Guide to Importing Data from a MySQL Database to Excel using MySQL for Excel if you need further reference on that topic. After importing Data from a MySQL Table into Excel, you can refresh the data in 3 ways.1. Simply right click over the range of the imported data, to show the pop-up menu: Click over the Refresh button to obtain the latest copy of the data in the table. 2. Click the Refresh button on the Data ribbon: 3. Click the Refresh All button in the Data ribbon (beware this will refresh all Excel tables in the Workbook): Please take a note of a couple of details here, the first one is about the size of the table. If by the time you refresh the table new columns had been added to it, and you originally have imported all columns, the table will grow to the right. The same applies to rows, if the table has new rows and you did not limit the results , the table will grow to to the bottom of the sheet in Excel. The second detail you should take into account is this operation will overwrite any changes done to the cells after the table was originally imported or previously refreshed: Now with this new feature, imported data remains linked to the data source and is available to be updated at all times. It empowers the user to always be able to work with the latest version of the imported MySQL data. We hope you like this this new feature and give it a try! • Automatically keeping two excel data tables in-sync (w/out VBA)

    - by Neil
I'm putting together a workbook for tracking a stock portfolio. The primary sheet contains a table with the list of the transactions. From this I would like to create an overview table on another sheet with only one row per unique stock symbol that includes things like cost basis, returns, etc. The problem is that nothing I've tried updates the overview table correctly when rows are added to the transaction table. The closest I've got is something like the following: http://www.get-digital-help.com/2009/04/14/create-a-unique-alphabetically-sorted-list-extracted-from-a-column/ However, this requires applying that formula to every cell in the primary column of the overview sheet. And even then the range of the table isn't extended down to include new rows as they become valid. Essentially I'm looking for a way that auto-adds rows to a table and copies the formula based on a different table changing without using VBA. Trivial example data Sheet1 Symbol Type Shares Price F Buy 100 12 MSFT Buy 100 25 MSFT Sell 50 28 F Buy 100 16 Sheet2 Symbol Quantity F 200 MSFT 50

  • C#: Excel 2007 Addin, How to Hook Windows Activate and Deactivate Events

    - by user127490
I am writing an Excel 2007 Addin. using VS2008 and .net 3.5, C#. I catched Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application's WindowActivate and WindowDeActivate events. It was surprised to know that WindowActivate and Deactivate only triggers when i switch between two Excel Windows. if i switch to notepad, i expect Deactivate to be triggered, but its not happening. same way from notepad if i switch to excel window, i expect Activate to be triggered but its not happening. It looks like the behaviour indicates windows are MDI-Child windows. Now what i want to do is get HWnd of Excel's Mainwindow and hook Window Activate and Deactivates using dllimport features. Can anyone guide to me on this. Regards

  • How to disable Excel's auto recognition of numbers and text

    - by Yin Zhu
I used Python to generate a CSV file. But when I open it in Excel, Excel will auto recognize a string into a number if it could be converted. e.g.33E105, which is actually an ID, not a number. How to disable this in Excel while opening a CSV file? Or I need to resort to a excel-python library to output a excel file and specify the format myself? Thanks!

  • SQL Math in Excel VBA

    - by Scott
Excel seems to have a problem with doing math in SQL queries. SELECT ( SELECT sum(column) FROM table1 ) + ( SELECT sum(column) FROM table2 ) AS total This technique works completely fine in ASP and ASP.NET. Has anyone had success doing this in Excel VBA? (My database engine is SQL Server 2000.)

  • Running Excel 2007 as admin on Win7 causes “There was a problem sending the command to the program”

    - by Flack
I am running Excel 2007 on Windows 7 64bit. I need to run Excel as administrator so I have the "Run as Administrator" box in the Excel shortcut checked. Now, when I try to open an Excel file by double clicking, I get the following error: There was a problem sending the command to the program Excel opens fine after that, and I can open the file fine through Excel's File/Open menu. Why can't I open the file by double clicking? Some sites suggest changing a specific Excel option. I tried while checking/unchecking Excel's "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" but that didn't help. The issue goes away if I uncheck "Run as Administrator" but I want to be able to leave that checked. Any ideas?

  • How to combine data from two rows, when certain criteria is met

    - by Corde Parker
I'm trying to make this Excel document but I want the AdminTimes for the same LastRxNo to be on the same line. So if the LastRxNo is the same, have one line and the AdminTime column will have multiple values. Here is a picture of what I want it to look like Any ideas? I was thinking an IF function, but I'm not too familiar with Excel to get it to work. It was just made in the Microsoft Query tool in Excel.
