  • Windows 7 won't read from NAS on LAN

    I've got a Linkstation NAS drive on a local network. Having just got a new laptop with Windows 7 Home Professional, I can no longer read anything of the drive. I've tried accessing the drive using \192.168.1.55\share, using ftp programs such as WinSCP, filezilla and even using firefox to hit ftp://192.168.1.55. The really annoying thing is that through these methods I can see the files on the drive, counting out any kind of connection issues. I can navigate through the NAS file system, but as soon as I try and copy a file off the NAS, things just stop working. Accessing the drive through a Windows XP machine works fine. So far I've tried: Disabling firewalls Adding the LmCompatibilityLevel key to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa Using the 40 - 56 bit encryption instead of the 128 bit. Has anyone got any suggestions of what I can check or try? This is driving me crazy and I'm totally out of ideas?

  • OpenVPN not with Windows 7 PCs on client Lan

    I have a setup with a router running OpenWRT with an openvpn client. Windows 7 pc's cannot access the vpn. They time out trying to access servers on the VPN. The mystery to me is that the setup works fine for my laptop running ubuntu. I can access the VPN without any issues. I previously had a router running Tomato with the same openvpn setup and all the computers could access the VPN. What could account for the difference in behaviour? Is there something I am missing in the OpenWRT setup that is required for windows networking that is on by default with tomato? To clarify the OpenVPN client is on the OpenWRT router. The client connects to the OpenVPN server. But when I try to access the VPN from Windows computers on my network I cannot.

    I have lighttpd setup on a machine (say ip is 10.107.105.13) with following details. inet addr : 10.107.105.13 Bcast : 10.107.111.255 Mask : 255.255.240.0 I can access my site on this computer by using firefox http://localhost/index.html. Now I am trying to access this site from another computer with following details inet addr : 10.14.42.7 Bcast : 10.14.42.255 Mask : 255.255.255.0 But it says 'access denied'. nmap 10.107.105.13 gives the following output. PORT STATE SERVICE 22/tcp open ssh 80/tcp open http 1234/tcp open hotline 3306/tcp open mysql 9418/tcp open git Following is the output of iptables -L -n -v on 10.107.105.13 141 11207 ACCEPT tcp -- * * 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 tcp dpt:80 0 0 ACCEPT tcp -- * * 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 tcp dpt:80 FORWARD and OUTPUT section empty. What is wrong with all this?

  • Mapping drives on MacOSX (Leopard/Snow Leopard) permanently inside LAN

    Hi, How do I "map" shared folders on a Mac, permanently? With map, I do not mean 'connect', but permanently add it to the system so it exists after reboot. Since workstations tend to shutdown, I wonder also the symptoms and cures in case that happens. In Linux, this can be done using the fstab file, but I noticed that volumes are mounted in a different structure than Linux. I need this to backup some workstations, doing a recursive job over a single directory, that should contain the shared folders. I use Terminal to access the main system, so by preference, the solution would be nice that works within a bash shell vs GUI. I can access all folders in Finder. Thanks!

    The problem is as follows: I have 2 windows2003 server instances running on the cloud. 1) How can I create a local area network from these 2 instances? 2) Assuming that I want to create a VPN network from these 2 instances, how do I do that? (I'm not very good in networking, therefor the above problem description might be incomplete or not very clear.) A detailed answer or clarification would be praised and appreciated! What I tried: 1) Setting up OpenVPN, but I got lost in the process. 2) Creating a VPN from windows2003 server in the following manner: on instance a): set up a dhcp server; set up an "accept income vpn" connection; with the followin tcp ip settings: obtain an ip from the dhcp server; on instance b): created a new vpn connection, tried to connect to intance A, using the instance A static IP but error 806 was thrown, something relate to a GRE protocol.

  • SMB super slow within LAN between MAC and PC

    I have a windows desktop which stores all my movies, songs and pictures. I have a mac laptop which I would like to access these files. I don't want to utilize the FTP or SCP protocol because I don't want them to be downloaded to my mac. I want to access them as if they are a network mounted disk. So I tried using the native SMB protocol (available in Finder - Go - Connect to server). I tried dragging a file and dropping it onto my MAC's desktop. Surprisingly, I am only able to transfer at a very slow rate of about 1mb/s. Assuming network connectivity is not a problem, has anyone experienced incredible slowness with SMB? Are there alternative protocols for me to use in this case between PC and MAC?

    Hi, I often find myself in the position of having to sniff on a connection between for example an arm board I am developing on, and another computer on the network, or out of the network. The easy situation is when I can install a sniffer on the computer talking to the embedded device. When it is not possible, I currently install an old 10Mb/s HUB. However I am afraid my HUB might stop working, and I would like to know some alternative. Here are the alternatives I could think of : Buy another HUB. Is that still possible ? Have some sort of ethernet sniffing bridge, like what they do for USB. I am afraid this kind of device is expensive. use ARP poisoning.

    I want to install Clonezilla-Server(192.168.1.100) in a network that already have a DHCP Server (dd-wrt with dnsmasq - 192.168.1.1). I've installed Clonezilla-SE on ubuntu Server 10.10, once installed and configured Clonezilla Server i've removed the DHCP-Server and set pxe server address in dnsmasq configuration on DHCP Server : dhcp-boot=pxelinux.0,,192.168.1.100 When i try to start from PXE a Computer in the network clonezilla start, but give me an error that the ipddress of the machine is not given by the clonezilla server and can't continue ... Someone has already tried to configure Clonezilla-SE in a similar enviroment? Is there some configuration on DRBL server of Clonezilla that i need to do ?

    I have a windows server 2012 with hyper-v added as a feature. I have created a server 2012 and a windows 8 guest machines. The windows 8 machine has internet connectivity and can successfully be added to our AD domain. I can log in to the domain on this guest machine with an AD account. However the server 2012 guest machine cannot be joined to the domain and does not have internet connectivity. Strangely enough (to me!). Is there any special settings/config that I should be doing/have missed?!

  • Accessing Virtual Host from outside LAN

    I'm setting up a web development platform that makes things as easy as possible to write and test all code on my local machine, and sync this with my web server. I setup several virtual hosts so that I can access my projects by typing in "project" instead of "localhost/project" as the URL. I also want to set this up so that I can access my projects from any network. I signed up for a DYNDNS URL that points to my computer's IP address. This worked great from anywhere before I setup the virtual hosts. Now when I try to access my projects by typing in my DYNDNS URL, I get the 403 Forbidden Error message, "You don't have permission to access / on this server." To setup my virtual hosts, I edited two files - hosts in the system32/drivers/etc folder, and httpd-vhosts.conf in the Apache folder of my WAMP installation. In the hosts file, I simply added the server name to associate with 127.0.0.1. I added the following to the http-vhosts.conf file: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot "c:/wamp/www/ladybug" ServerName ladybug ErrorLog "logs/your_own-error.log" CustomLog "logs/your_own-access.log" common </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot "c:/wamp/www" ServerName localhost ErrorLog "logs/localhost-error.log" CustomLog "logs/localhost-access.log" common </VirtualHost> Any idea why I can't access my projects from typing in my DYNDNS URL?     I have two local machines connected to each other via wired ethernet and one of those machines is also connected to a wifi network which provides internet access. A pseudo-graphical representation of the topology is as follows: (PC2)----------(PC1)---------(Wifi Gateway) 192.168.2.x 10.0.0.x The configuration on PC2 is: iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.2.2 network 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.2.1 ...and the configuration on PC1 is: iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.2.1 network 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.2.1 On PC1, I've added a default route for wlan0 as I couldn't access the internet otherwise: route add default gw 10.0.0.1 wlan0 And also tried setting the gateway for the 192.168.2.x network using: route add -net 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 10.0.0.1 But I still can't access internet from PC2. Edit I don't have access to the wifi gateway.

    after i read Multicast IP Addresses and Multicast accross the subnets I am confused. Configuration: I have two devices in the same network. They may not be in the same Subnet, but always in the same physical network (beyond the same router, switch etc.) I want to communicate across IP multicast either 224.x.x.x or 239.x.x.x may be more fitting because we want it local, not beyond of forward through the router. Can one machine be the receiver and the other machine sender of the same multicast address? and can the receiving machine send an answer to the sending machine?

  • LAN not picking up gigabit connection through patch panel

    I have just purchased 2 FVS318G switches to install at my store. How this is set up is the server is in the back room. We have Cat 5E ran up through the ceiling and is patched into a panel in the back room. The 2 switches I just purchased are right next to the server in the back where all the cables patch in. I do a direct connection from the server to switch, avoiding the patch panel completely, and receive 1.0 gbps connection no problem. When i patch in the register computers from the front into the panel and then to the switch I am only getting 100 mbps on the registers up front. The patch panel does say Cat 5E on it but I am not sure if there is any interference in the line somewhere and I cannot get the full 1.0 gbps to the front registers like I want. Any ideas??

    I am trying to find out if there's a way to set up network adapters so that if 2 are connected with network and internet access it will choose one over the other. Scenario: I have seen several computers running Windows 7 or Windows 8 where you are connected to a wireless network, working perfectly. Then when you plug in an Ethernet cable, it still shows the network icon in the taskbar as wireless. I would like to have my computer set up so that if there's an Ethernet cable plugged in, it uses that, and not the wireless adapter. 1) Is this possible / How? 2) Why does it stay on wireless over wired when given the option for both?

So, I've got it working fine, and it does what I want to do, which is: Lost connectivity between the two nodes gives the first node '10node' both Failover Wan IPs. (aka resources WanCluster100 and WanCluster101 ) '11node' does nothing. He "thinks" he still has his Failover Wan IP. (aka WanCluster101) But it doesn't do this: '11node' should restart the WanCluster101 resource when the connectivity with the other node is back. This is to prevent a condition where node10 simply dies (and thus does not get 11node's Failover Wan IP), resulting in a situation where none of the nodes have 10node's failover IP because 10node is down 11node has "given back" his failover Wan IP. It would be nice to get the address dynamically to reuse the script on other machines. Any ideas?

  • SSH connection problem - allowed from LAN but not WAN

    I tried to setup my Arch Linux installation to be an SSH host, but here is the thing: I can ssh localhost, it fails to login via public key and asks for username and password, but still able to login. When I try ssh my_wan_ip it gives ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host error. I've read all topics about this error and none helped me. By the way, just confirmed, it gives ssh: connect to host my_dyndns_hostname port 22: Connection refused from another machine (outside of my network, it has different wan ip). I have sshd: ALL in "hosts.allow", ALL:ALL in "hosts.deny". I am able to connect to my own pc via ssh, ping my own pc, but my ssh setup seems to be the problem, it gives that annoying error when I try to ssh from wan. /etc/ssh/ssh_config /etc/ssh/sshd_config And finally, here is the debug output for both sshd and ssh: (i ran ssh command and i took output to sshd debug after that): sshd debug ssh debug I can edit my question according to your needs. Just ask for any more information needed. BTW I have no iptables running. I have one cable dsl modem connected to a asus wl-330gE wireless access point, they both have their firewall disabled. I configured NAT so port 22 is directed to the pc I'm having this trouble. Any help appreciated, thanks..

I combined all dvd disk 's file, but I found the .gpg file I need and I can't create it. it looks like source's signature file. so when I set my /etc/apt/sources.list file as follow: deb http://192.168.1.102/apt/debian squeeze main contrib it noticed me the gpg files verilied faild. so I want to know , how to create gpg file, and do I need some other work except put DVD's file to the apache's htdocs path?
