  • Why can't we have an immutable version of operator[] for map

    - by Yan Cheng CHEOK
The following code works fine : std::map<int, int>& m = std::map<int, int>(); int i = m[0]; But not the following code : // error C2678: binary '[' : no operator... const std::map<int, int>& m = std::map<int, int>(); int i = m[0]; Most of the time, I prefer to make most of my stuff to become immutable, due to reason : http://www.javapractices.com/topic/TopicAction.do?Id=29 I look at map source code. It has mapped_type& operator[](const key_type& _Keyval) Is there any reason, why std::map unable to provide const mapped_type& operator[](const key_type& _Keyval) const

  • Flexible string handling in Visual Studio 2008 C++

    - by David
    I'm slowly starting to get the hang of the _T stuff in Visual Studio 2008 c++, but a few things still elude me. I can see the benefit of the flexibility, but if I can't get the basics soon, I think I'll go back to the standard way of doing this - much less confusing. The idea with the code below is that it scans the parameters for -d and then stores the text that follows that in the string variable fileDir. It also ignores any other parameters. Any help is appreciated. //Console application Parameters::Parameters(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { _Tstring fileDir; // Is there some kind of _t variable to use here for a string? for (int i = 0; i < argc; i = i + 1) { if (_tccmp(argv[i], _T("-d")) == 0) // this appeared to accept anything starting with - { i = i + 1; fileDir = argv[i] } } _tprintf("Parameter value found: %s\n", fileDir); }

  • Grails Services / Transactions / RuntimeException / Testing

    - by Rob
I'm testing come code in a service with transactional set to true , which talks to a customer supplied web service the main part of which looks like class BarcodeService { .. /// some stuff ... try{ cancelBarCodeResponse = cancelBarCode(cancelBarcodeRequest) } catch(myCommsException e) { throw new RuntimeException(e) } ... where myCommsException extends Exception .. I have a test which looks like // As no connection from my machine, it should fail .. shouldFailWithCause(RuntimeException){ barcodeServices.cancelBarcodeDetails() } The test fails cause it's catching a myCommsException rather than the RuntimeException i thought i'd converted it to .. Anyone care to point out what i'm doing wrong ? Also will the fact that it's not a RuntimeException mean any transaction related info done before my try/catch actually be written out rather than thrown away ?? Thanks

  • Maven overlay with war not generated by maven

    - by dnc253
I'm pretty new to Maven, so I apologize if this is a newbie question. We are trying to integrate a 3rd-party app into ours. This 3rd-party functionality is delivered to us as a war file. As part of this integration, I want to add some extra jars and and a properties file. Googling around, I discovered overlays. However, in all the examples I've seen, it looks the the wars that are being overlayed, were themselves generated by Maven, and thus Maven can figure out dependencies, conflicts, etc. between the two. I'm just wondering if there's a way for me to overlay this 3rd-party war with this extra stuff I want. If so, what would that look like in the pom.xml?

  • OS monitoring using JAVA

    - by Puneri
I'm planning to implement a framework for monitoring OS level resources: process network stats cpu info etc using JAVA. I see there is SIGAR API by Spring, which is implemented in native language and JAVA API being provided on top. But I will prefer not to have native stuff in my framework, rather for each OS will write a Java Class which will fetch required OS info by running system commands via JAVA Runtime. So I would like to have inputs/suggestions that one may have seen of not doing this in JAVA and use native app/api/jni. Any example will help for sure. I agree each OS has different commands to get these stats, but will prefer to have a Java Class per OS than have/load native code.

  • How to update a library in my application

    - by andho
I have used a library like ZendFramework in my project which I have put in Subversion. Now I want to update the version that I have put in Subversion. What's the best way to do this? Copying, taking a svn diff and patching the working copy or just copying the new files over the old files? I have tried svn diff with svn diff but this doesn't output anything. Normal diff outputs some stuff but it also considers the .svn directories.

  • Is the offical Sun Java EE tutorial the best way to learn how to make Java web apps?

    - by Nick
I've been a web developer for almost a decade. I've mostly used classic ASP/JavaScript and I'd like to move into Java based apps. I have a decent understanding of Java itself (enough to know how to lookup what I don't know) and I spent some time doing minor work on a JSF/Spring/Hibernate app, but from what a trusted coworker told me, this application is the example of what not to do. I want to learn the really hardcore stuff (EJBs, HA Clustering, etc), but I know I have to walk before I can run. Is the Sun Tutorial the best place to start? Or is there an definitive book (like K&R for C or Gang of Four for design patterns) that I should buy?

  • Beginner: Best Practices in an Android App UI Navagation

    - by AndyD273
I am trying to learn how to do stuff in Android, and I'm not sure of the best way to build the interface. I've been working on porting an iPhone app, which uses navigation controllers and table views for looking at the different sections: basically, someone touches a cell in the table, which drills down to another table. when they touch a cell on that table it drills down to a webview that displays the information. I want to do something similar for the android app, but I don't know how, or if there is a better way native to Android. I've figured out how to use the webview to my purposes, but moving forward and backward in the table tree is unclear.

  • TFS get command erroneously returns "All files are up to date."

    - by NathanE
We are just in the process of migrating our TFS repo to Mercurial as we've had enough of TFS. Unfortunately TFS has thrown us one last curve ball before it lets us go. We've wrote a script that we intend to have "get" each changeset (including timestamp, check-in comment etc) and then add them to the Mercurial repo and check it in. Unfortunately TFS is acting very strange when we execute the tf get * /version:C111 /overwrite command. It immediately returns "All files are up to date." But this is impossible. The workspace folder is empty! And viewing the details for the 111 changeset quite clearly shows that the changeset contains "stuff" i.e. the repo is certainly not empty. What could be causing this?

  • Creating DB views in Ruby on Rails

    - by Zigu
Hey guys, I'm building a "reports" functionality to a project. 3 roles here: 1) Volunteers (they report what hours they volunteered) 2) Supervisors (they look at the reported stuff, note: one supervisor can view all projects) 3) Projects (Represents a work project that some collection of volunteers work on) To explain what it does: A report will be specified by the supervisor to generate based on a query of what he needs. These could be plausible reports: 1) The total number of volunteers, and the total amount of volunteer hours on this project 2) All the volunteer's names and emails associated with a project 3) The number of active projects vs. the total number of projects I was thinking maybe that creating a view in rails and storing the name of that view so Rails will just check the view whenever a supervisor wants to pull up the "report". Is a view really the answer or is it better to just save a query? Can Rails do this or is there an even better or more simple way of achieving this functionality? Cheers, -Jeremiah Tantongco

  • jQuery works on local host, but not on website

    - by Cortopasta
Using Notepad++ and XAMPP to test stuff, then I upload it to the website over FTP. In the head of my code, I have this to call jQuery and the script: <script type="text/javascript" src="/jquery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/portfolio.js"></script> and it works fine locally on my XAMPP server. But as soon as it's uploaded onto the host, it throws this error: Resource interpreted as script but transferred with MIME type text/html. Not sure what's going on, or why it's having a hard time using jQuery. Any ideas?

  • Project hosting vs. my own SVN

    - by BigG
I'm working on different projects with some small teams (2-3 people for each). Those projects are about some scientific stuff, most (probably all) the code will be released under GPL after the publication of some results and we don't want to spend money for this. My first question is: should i keep my local SVN server or you know some good service for this? Both of them have some disadvantages and services like xp-dev.com looks pretty interesting but should i trust them? [i'll get only the free plan] Online services give you some tools for project management, what do you think about them?

  • jquery .inside() ?

    - by codedude
I was wondering if it was possible to insert content inside html tags. So say you have a h4 tag: <h4>Some Header</h4> And you want the text to also be surrounded by a span with a class of "line". Like so: <h4><span class="line">Some Header</span></h4> I know about stuff like .after() but is there something like .inside() to do this with? \ Ok...I know I could do this manually, but in this situation it is out of the question. Thanks

  • grab inspect the parameters to "use" and pass on the rest?

    - by JoelFan
I have a Perl module and I'd like to be able to pick out the parameters that my my module's user passed in the "use" call. Whichever ones I don't recognize I'd like to pass on. I tried to do this by overriding the "import" method but I'm not having much luck. EDIT: To clarify, as it is, I can use my module like this: use MyModule qw/foo bar/; which will import the foo and bar methods of MyModule. But I want to be able to say: use MyModule qw/foo doSpecialStuff bar/; and look for doSpecialStuff to check if I need to do some special stuff at the beginning of the program, then pass qw/foo bar/ to the Exporter's import

  • C# + Format TimeSpan

    - by Villager
Hello, I am trying to format a TimeSpan element in the format of "[minutes]:[seconds]". In this format, 2 minutes and 8 seconds would look like "02:08". This is what I'm currently trying: DateTime startTime = DateTime. Now; // Do Stuff TimeSpan duration = DateTime.Now.Subtract(startTime); Console.WriteLine("[paragraph of information] Total Duration: " + duration.ToString("mm:ss")); What am I doing wrong? How do I format a TimeSpan element using my desired format? Thank you

  • Teacher confused about MVC?

    - by Gideon
I have an assignment to create a game in java using MVC as a pattern. The thing is that stuff I read about MVC aren't really what the teacher is telling me. What I read is that the Model are the information objects, they are manipulated by the controllers. So in a game the controller mutates the placement of the objects and check if there is any collision etc. What my teacher told me is that I should put everything that is universal to the platform in the models and the controllers should only tell the model which input is given. That means the game loop will be in a model class, but also collision checks etc. So what I get from his story is that the View is the screen, the Controller is the unput handeler, and the Model is the rest. Can someone point me in the right direction?

  • Can I use a vertex shader to display a models normals?

    - by geowar
I'm currently using a VBO for the texture coordinates, normals and the vertices of a (3DS) model I'm drawing with "glDrawArrays(GL_TRIANGLES, ...);". For debugging I want to (temporarily) show the normals when drawing my model. Do I have to use immediate mode to draw each line from vert to vert+normal -OR- stuff another VBO with vert and vert+normal to draw all the normals… -OR- is there a way for the vertex shader to use the vertex and normal data already passed in when drawing the model to compute the V+N used when drawing the normals?

  • How to peform an external request in Kohana 3?

    - by alex
I've always used cURL for this sort of stuff, but this article got me thinking I could request another page easily using the Request object in Kohana 3. $url = 'http://www.example.com'; $update = Request::factory($url); $update->method = 'POST'; $update->post = array( 'key' => 'value' ); $update->execute(); echo $update->response; However I get the error Accessing static property Request::$method as non static From this I can assume it means that the method method is static, but that doesn't help me much. I also copied and pasted the example from that article and it threw the same error. Basically, I'm trying to POST to a new page on an external server, and do it the Kohana way. So, am I doing this correctly, or should I just use cURL (or file_get_contents() with context)?

  • Scroll returns to default after display:none in Chrome/IE

    - by Sam
Here's the example: http://jsfiddle.net/sammy/RubNy/ Scroll down in the div container. Then click anywhere in the window to hide the element. Then click once more to show the element. You'll notice in Chrome/IE that the scroll is reset, but in Firefox, the scroll remains how you left it. Which is the standards behavior, Chrome/IE or Firefox? Should I report this to the Chrome issue tracker? Thanks in advance for any help on this, and happy new year, and thanks again, and cheers, and stuff. =D

  • Dollar sign and/or Dash breaking Razor's parser

    - by justSteve
    the end-result i'm trying to render: <input type="radio" name="options" id="options_1" />$1 - A Not Very Expensive Chocolate <input type="radio" name="options" id="options_2" />$10 - A Kinda Expensive Chocolate <input type="radio" name="options" id="options_3" />$100 - A Really Expensive Chocolate From this code: @foreach (var o in Model.Options){ <input type="radio" name="options" id=@("options_" + @o.ID) />[email protected] - @o.Label } If i drop both the '$' and the '-' from what should be plain old text - stuff works. Adding either resulted in compiler warnings and runtime errors. I've tried the explicit syntax as described here but haven't found the right combination yet.

  • best way to filter out non-representational elements

    - by nonano
Hi there, I am using phpQuery in order to apply some twaks to editorial content. As its syntax is the same as jQuery, I consider this a dom scripting issue. To get rid of elements which are not representing anything, but wrapping other stuff (like the div in <div><p>blah</p></div> I came up with this selector: ['div:not([align][class][id][style][title][dir][lang][onclick][ondblclick][onmousedown] [onmouseup][onmouseover][onmousemove][onmouseout][onkeypress][onkeydown][onkeyup])'] which looks quite monstrous for a selector simply aming on Divs which just do not have any (valid) attribute. I guess there must be a more straight-forward way to accomplish that, right? Edit: Oh, and I just noticed that it even doesn't do wat I intended to ...

  • C String input confusion

    - by ahref
C really isn't my strong point and after reading 3 chapters of a book on the subject and spending ages trying to get stuff working it just doesn't: #include <stdio.h> char *a,*b; int main( ) { char input[10]; fgets(input, sizeof input, stdin); a = input; fgets(input, sizeof input, stdin); b = input; printf("%s : %s",a,b); } I've isolated the problem from my main project. This code is meant to read in two strings and then print them however it seems to be setting a and b to point to input. Sample output from this code when A and B are entered is(don't worry about the \n's i can remove them): A B B : B How do i store the value of input in another variable eg. a or b so that in the above case A B A : B Is output? Thanks

  • Nested for_each with lambda not possible?

    - by Ela782
The following code does not compile in VS2012, it gives error C2064: term does not evaluate to a function taking 1 arguments on the line of the second for_each (line 4 below). vector<string> v1; for_each(begin(v1), end(v1), [](string s1) { vector<string> v2; for_each(begin(v2), end(v2), [](string s2) { cout << "..."; }); }); I found some related stuff like http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/560907/capturing-variables-in-nested-lambdas which shows a bug (they are doing something different) but on the other hand that shows that what I print above should be possible. What's wrong with the above code?

  • python open does not create file if it doesnt exist

From what i read, file = open('myfile.dat', 'rw') should do this, no? it is not working for me (python 2.6.2) and im wondering if it is a version problem, or not supposed to work like that or what. The bottom line is, i just need a solution for the problem. I am curious about the other stuff, but all i need is a nice way to do the opening part. thanks in advance
