• printf not passing correct Hex Address to stack

  I have a hickup in using printf . I am on ubuntu 10.04. Basically i have a C program asking for some input and then prints it back. It is OK for printing something after inputing. I tried to insert some Hex Address to Stack by following format:- printf "hello world!\x12\x23\x34" | ./input1 But i don't know what is the problem. If i give only string beyond 12 bytes it overwrites BUT If I give hex address(through printf), it doesn't overwrite on return address. Instead it stores some other thing. Could anyone help??? I can't proceed further becoz of this. Thanks in advance

  What I am trying to accomplish is using this script task to continually insert into a generated RecordSet I know how to access it in the script however I do not know how to update it after my changes to the DataTable have been made.   I'm trying to write a Java app that imports a data file. The process is as follows Create Transaction Delete all rows from datatable Load data file into datatable Commit OR Rollback if any errors were encountered. The data loaded in step 3 is mostly the same as the data deleted in step3. The deletion is performed using the following DetachedCriteria criteria = DetachedCriteria.forClass(myObject.class); List<myObject> myObjects = hibernateTemplate.findByCriteria(criteria); hibernateTemplate.deleteAll(myObjects); When I then load the datafile, i get the following exception nested exception is org.hibernate.NonUniqueObjectException: a different object with the same identifier value was already associated with the session: The whole process needs to take place in transaction. And I don't really want to have to compare the import file / data table and then perform an insert/update/delete to get them into sync. Any help would be appreciated.

• Best practices about creating a generic object dictionary in C#? Is this bad?

  For clarity I am using C# 3.5/Asp.Net MVC 2 Here is what I have done: I wanted the ability to add/remove functionality to an object at run-time. So I simply added a generic object dictionary to my class like this: public Dictionary<int, object> Components { get; set; } Then I can add/remove any kind of .Net object into this dictionary at run-time. To insert an object I do something like this: var tag = new Tag(); myObject.Components.Add((int)Types.Components.Tag, tag); Then to retrieve I just do this: if(myObject.Components.ContainsKey((int)Types.Components.Tag)) { var tag = myObject.Components[(int)Types.Components.Tag] as Tag; if(tag != null) { //do stuff } } Somehow I feel sneaky doing this. It works okay, but I am wondering what you guys think about it as a best practice. Thanks for your input, Daniel

• Database indexes - what should they be

  Most of my database tables have a clear unique index through which lookups are done 90% of the time but I am a bit unsure on this one - I have a table which keeps track of user rating totals for items in my database, I now want to add another table, to track individual ratings with an ip address column to make sure no one can rate something twice. Since I can see this becoming a big, high use table it is important to optimize it correctly. (MYSQL table) This table will have the following fields: rating_id(always - unique), item_id (always - not unique), user_id (optional - not unique), ip_address (always - not unique), rating_value(always - not unique), has_review(bool) Now I envisions 90% the queries going something like this: When a user rates something - select where item_id = x and ip_address = y, (if rows = 0) insert rating When in user account pages - select where ip_address = x or username = y Now none of the fields searched on are unique, can I still use them as indexes (for example item _id and ip_address), can I have two indexes and will this still improve performance over a non indexed table?

  Hi, I use syntax like name varchar(20) NOT NULL in mysql..i have a big confusion over here. typically does it mean that this field is mandatory? but when i store a space in this field it accepts it.is it correct. its like while insert i say '".$_POST['name']."'. even if the name does not have any value query is executed. can any1 just clarify me on this ? is NULL and blank space same ?

• Upload File to Database in ColdFusion

  I simply would like to upload a file to my database using ColdFusion. I understand how to upload an image to a directory, but I would like to place it directly in the database. I have set a database field to varbinary(MAX) to accept the image and have the stored procedure to insert it. Currently my code for uploading the image to my file system is: <cfif isdefined("form.FileUploadImage")> <cffile action="upload" filefield="FileUploadImage" destination="#uploadfolder#" nameconflict="overwrite" accept="image/*" > </cfif> I've obviously left some of the supporting code out, but really all I need to do is get a binary representation of the file stored in memory, instead of the file system.   I have a notifications app that generates notifications for users. The notification class has to be really general, because notifications are generated by all sorts of different things. My question is this: How do I insert links into the text of the notifications? What I tried was this: note = Notification(..., notification="""%s %s has accepted the task: <a href="/tasks/%d/">%s</a>.""" % (request.user.first_name, request.user.last_name, task.id, task.name), ...) • producing a typewriter-like effect

  Android newb here. Please use small words :-) I'd like to simulate typewriter output on my Android. The output being displayed is generated by a game and is somewhat freeform. The effect I want to see individual characters appear at a rate of about 6 characters a second. When a 'carriage return' is seen, I'd like to insert a delay then resume typing on the left. What are some suggestions on views? Would the view of choice for this be a TextView? Even that seems like overkill for this read-only coarsely scrolling output. I saw something on this thread about an AsyncTask. That looks useful. Perhaps my game will write to some manner of buffer, and a subclass of AsyncTask will pull characters out every .15 seconds or so, add them to the TextView, then invalidate() the TextView? Sound like a plan?

• How and when to log account access login with PHP?

  I want to implement a basic login system in some PHP app where no cookies will be involved. I mean, the user closes the browser and the login expires, it will remain active during the browser session (or if the user explicitly logs out) otherwise. I want to log all this activity and I'm thinking that every time the user refreshes the page, opens a different link or logs out, I record that time as the last access made by that user, overwriting the previous access log. But my problem is when and how should I insert another record into the database instead of overwriting the last one? Should I just define a timeout and if the last access was made above that timeout, another log should be inserted into the database? Should the session expire too after that timeout? Or is there a better way? Ideally, I would like to log the "log out action" when the browser was closed, but I don't think there's a way to detect that is there? Suggestions?

  Here is a long string that I convert to a list so I can manipulate it, and then join it back together. I am having some trouble being able to have an iterator go through the list and when the iterator reach, let us say every 5th object, it should insert a '\n' right there. Thats why I have only one ConfigSettings.ReadSetting("main_table") for both of them as they are same. I have 2 connection strings and each is pointing to their server: con.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["con1"].ConnectionString; con2.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["con2"].ConnectionString; How to make this cmd to be workking with 2 different connection strings and with the same name for the table. Table name will change that's why it is saved in config.

• Is it possible for a Grails Domain to have no 'id'?

  Is it possible to create a table that has no 'id'? For example, this is my domain: class SnbrActVector { int nid String term double weight static mapping = { version false id generator: 'identity' } static constraints = { } } When I run this SQL statement, it fails: insert into snbr_act_vector values (5, 'term', 0.5) I checked the table and 'id' is already set to autoincrement. I'm thinking that another option is to remove the 'id' itself. Or is there another workaround for this? Please assume that it is not an option to change the givent SQL statement.

  I did some stuff to have to_param return a perma-url so I'd have seo friendly links. Upon creation and update it will generate and return the perma-url in a to_param method that I put in the model. However this causing me some grief in other areas. I have a form that looks like this: <% @apps.each do |app| %> <% fields_for "[id][]", app do |fields| %> .... this fails terribly since it tries to insert the perma-url in place of the id. If I could just restrict to_param by action, that could solve things. If I change app to app.id, that fails since I have stuff like this: fields.check_box :is_featured . I suppose I could get the app instance, but that feels hacky. Again please excuse my lack of rails-foo ;)

  I've been racking my brain over this for the past few days and I'm not sure it's possible, but figured I ask here. Is it possible for a single SQL statement to update a high score if your score is greater or insert it if your first score? My Score table has a UserID, Level and Score columns and I like it to follow the following logic: If your new score is greater than your last score for this Level, then replace it. If you don't have a score for this Level then add it. If your score for this Level is less than your highest score for this Level then do nothing. Is this possible in a single SQL statement or do I have to use two, one to see if you have a new high score and if so, replace it? Each UserID would have only one score in the table for each Level. I'm using MySQL.

• How can I leverage String constants in an XML file?

  I'd like to enforce standardized keys by storing them as static final String variables on a Java class, and either referencing or statically importing them, to use them as values in either XML, Strings, Methods, Annotations, etc. Does anyone know a good way to have Maven insert (like filtering) values like StringKeys.SOME_KEY into an XML file? e.g. something like <element value="${StringKeys.SOME_KEY}"/> or similar - the main idea is to enforce commonality and prevent key mis-alignment. Or an alternative solution to accomplish the same - with some semantic that if a non-existant String is referenced, that it fails during build? Bonus points if it works in C# as well.

• Java data structure to use with Hibernate to store unknown number of parameters?

  Following problem: I want to render a news stream of short messages based on localized texts. In various places of these messages I have to insert parameters to "customize" them. I guess you know what I mean ;) My question probably falls into the "Which is the best style to do it?" category: How would you store these parameters (they may be Strings and Numbers that need to be formatted according to Locale) in the database? I'm using Hibernate to do the ORM and I can think of the following solutions: build a combined String and save it as such (ugly and hard to maintain I think) do some kind of fancy normalization and and make every parameter a single row on the database (clean I guess, but a performance nightmare) Put the params into an Array, Map or other Java data structure and save it in binary format (probably causes a lot of overhead size-wise) I tend towards option #3 but I'm afraid that it might be to costly in terms of size in the database. What do you think?

I've set the mapping up in NHibernate to reflect this: <id name="ID"> <generator class="identity" /> </id> And it all works fine. Trouble is, I need to get the generated ID after I've saved a new model to use elsewhere: var model = new MyModel(); session.SaveOrUpdate(model); But at this stage model.ID == null, not the ID.   Hello, I have an SQL-table holding the last hands received by a player in card game. The hand is represented by an integer (32 bits == 32 cards): create table pref_hand ( id varchar(32) references pref_users, hand integer not NULL check (hand > 0), stamp timestamp default current_timestamp ); As the players are playing constantly and that data isn't important (just a gimmick to be displayed at player profile pages) and I don't want my database to grow too quickly, I'd like to keep only up to 10 records per player id. So I'm trying to declare this PL/PgSQL procedure: create or replace function pref_update_game(_id varchar, _hand integer) returns void as $BODY$ begin delete from pref_hand offset 10 where id=_id order by stamp; insert into pref_hand (id, hand) values (_id, _hand); end; $BODY$ language plpgsql; but unfortunately this fails with: ERROR: syntax error at or near "offset" because delete doesn't support offset. I have thought I'd find useful the possibility of passing the template I want to render as a parameter as 'max' in this example: <div id="sidebar"> {% render "AcmeArticleBundle:Article:recentArticles" with {'max': 3} %} </div> Is that possible in symfony2?
