  I have a situation similar to the following question: Insert Data Into SQL Table Where my scenario differs is that I have a non-auto-incrementing primary key field that can have a range between 1000 and 1999. We only have about a hundred values in it thus far, but the maximum value has already been taken (1999), and there are gaps in the numbering sequence. Thus, I need to find a value that is between 1000-1999 and not taken. For instance, if my current values are, for example, 1000, 1001, 1003, and 1999, I would want the query to return 1002.

• MEMORY(HEAP) vs. InnoDB in a Read and Write Envirnment

  I want to programm a real-time application using MySQL. It needs a small table (less than 10000 rows) that will be under heavy read (scan) and write (update and some insert/delete) load. I am really speaking of 10000 updates or selects per second. These statements will be executed on only a few (less than 10) open mysql connections. The table is small and does not contain any data that needs to be stored on disk. So I ask which is faster: InnoDB or MEMORY (HEAP)? My thoughts are: Both enginges will probably serve SELECTs directly from memory, as even InnoDB will cache the whole table. What about the UPDATAEs? (innodb_flush_log_at_trx_commit?) My main concern is the locking behavior: InnoDB row lock vs. MEMORY table lock. Will this present the bottleneck in the MEMORY implementation? Thanks for your thoughts!

  I am making a notification system so that when users in a group perform an action, it will notify all the other users in the group. I want the notification to be marked "read" or "unread" for each user of the group. With that, I can easily retreive any unread notification for a user and display it. I am think about creating a notification table that have the following fields. +----------------------+ | notification | +----------------------+ | id | | userid | | content | | status (read/unread) | | time | +----------------------+ My question is: Whether it is the correct way of making the system? As it means that when there is 1,000 users in a group, then I have to insert 1,000 rows to the table. If not, what is the better way of doing this?   Hi, I'm editing a vb.net app for a mate and part of the requirements are to copy merge fields from one word document to another. I can copy them across using document.content.text but they come out as text (should've figured this i guess). I think i've got them selected by: Dim tDocFields As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.Fields tDocFields = tDocument.Content.Fields I'm then activating the doc i want to copy into and i think i need to then copy into that doc using the related word app. vDocument.Activate() vWord.Selection. ??? Insert() ??? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated... Am i on the right lines even?

• Google Calendar title displayed incorrectly

However when I look at the 1st calendar on the Google website, the title is shown as [email protected], though the summary is correctly shown as Collection calendar for [email protected]. Strangely, the title and summary are both shown correctly tor the 2nd calendar. This only started happening today, and I'm pretty sure the relevant code has not changed. I'm totally stumped....

• Printing complex widgets in Qt

  I have a complex widget with tons of different subwidgets, e.g. subclasses of QLabel. I want to print this widget, but obviously I do not want to print the background, I want to print with differing text colors or have the style of frames slightly modified. As I do not really want to iterate through all subwidgets with a special "print" function, which I would need to attach to all widgets (how to add "print" to a QLabel?), I would like to use paintEvent. If I have a hierarchy MyWidget - derived from - some QWidget, I would like to insert a sublayer MyWidget - MyPrintWidget - some QWidget, where myPrintWidget::paintEvent would check, if the current print is going to the screen (thus call QWidget::paintEvent), else if we are printing to the printer, call some function MyPrintWidget::drawWidget instead. Is this the right way to print-enable a widget? How can I figure out in paintEvent, that I'm printing to a printer instead of the screen? Is there a good example of printing complex widgets?

• LINQ saving images to varbinary

  I'm having issues saving images to a varbinary(Max) field using LINQ. I can save files in the region of 10KB to the database no problems, but when it comes to files bigger than that, it's as though it doesn't even try. I've had a look in the SQL Server Profiler and when the file is around 10KB I can see the full insert statement in the detail pane. However, when the file is a bit bigger, the detail pane doesn't show anything, although any data besides the varbinary field is written to the database. The data is in the Data Object just before SubmitChanges so I can't figure out what's happening between now and then!

  I try to draw a class diagram using Vim. I fill the editor window with white-spaces. Type :match SpellBad /\s/ to highlight all the white-spaces. Ctrl+Q to select vertical white-spaces. Ctrl+I to insert Bar(|) and then Esc ........................... v+l +... + l to select horizontal white-spaces But I don't know how to change all selected horizontal white-spaces to underscore(_). I have to hit _ serval times. • How to retain focus on an editable html after deleting an element.

  Hello, I have a website with design mode on (aka. content editable = true) with some basic text on it. To that site I hooked up a shortcut so that at any point in the text I can insert an input box that serves me as an autocomplete. For that input however I want it to disappear right after I hit ENTER so that I can continue typing. It is an easy task to just make the input box disappear but I always loose focus from my document. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to make this work?

• How to deal with the new line character in the Silverlight TextBox

  When using a multi-line TextBox (AcceptsReturn="True") in Silverlight, line feeds are recorded as \r rather than \r\n. This is causing problems when the data is persisted and later exported to another format to be read by a Windows application. I was thinking of using a regular expression to replace any single \r characters with a \r\n, but I suck at regex's and couldn't get it to work. Because there may be a mixture of line endings just blindy replacing all \r with \r\n doesn't cut it. So two questions really... If regex is the way to go what's the correct pattern? Is there a way to get Silverlight to respect it's own Environment.NewLine character in TextBox's and have it insert \r\n rather just a single \r?

Ex: var elem = $("body").append(""); $(elem).show(); but it seems that .append returns the whole jQuery object.. am i supposed to use an ID for the inserted element and always reference it by it?? i really hope that there is a smarter move here. • Best way to get a reasonably random key for MYSQL records

  Hi there, I need to generate a reasonably random unique key for a table. It should be something like a GUID for MYSQL. I've tried UUID, but it looks like only the first few characters are actually random- the rest are the same every time I insert them. Essentially, it is desirable for this key field to be very difficult to guess, even if you already have one known value in the column. What is the best way to do this, and how should I set up the field data type to store the value efficiently? Thank you, Steve

• drupal hook just before inserting/updating user info

  Hi, I want to hook into drupal's user registration and be able to stop it or allow it to proceed just before database insert. All validations and 3rd party stuff must be done and just before inserting I need to hook in. What is the hook and the operation to do this? I tried 'validate' operation in the hook_user. But, after I check against my logic and let the registration proceed, it should not fail due to some other validation. If I let it proceed, no application logic after that should stop the registration (unless the DB engine fails or something of course). If I stop it, I will set a form error so that nothing happens. How can this be accomplished? P.S. I am using Drupal 6.16

• NSFetchedResultsChangeInsert reported when only updates are taking place

  I have a class that acts as a NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate which is receiving messages to -(void)controller:didChangeObject:atIndexPath:forChangeType:newIndexPath: with change type NSFetchedResultsChangeInsert, but the actual object which is the subject has with certainty not been newly inserted, only updated. So I would expect to get a change message with type NSFetchedResultsChangeUpdate, should I not? If i check the value of isInserted on the object, it yields false (as expected from the logic in my program). So my question is, why is this reported as an insert when it is only a change/update? They only thing I can think of is that part of the changes that are taking place is that objects of another entity type are inserted with relationships to objects of the entity type that the NSFetchedResultsController is set up to fetch.

  An iPhone application I have installed uses an SQLite database to log entries with basic INSERTS and DELETES being performed on it. However I wish to keep a permanent log of the INSERTS made to this table, so when an INSERT occurs, I want it to be written to another table also as to create a log. I don't have access to the application source code in order to modify the SQL statements made, I do have access to the SQLite database. Can I do this with triggers? If so can somebody provide a short example.

However, when i try and create a portfolio, I get a 'feed is read-only' error. • Global variable not stable after platform changed.

  Our embedded system is built on a hw/sw platform made by enea. After the platform updated recently, we found some operations on the global variable keep crashing the system. For example, we have a global map structure holding some data. We can insert/iterate the map once or twice, then the address of the elements in the map suddenly changed to some forbidden addresses like 0x0 or 0x1d, the system just crash. The only different before/after the platform update is : 1) sw part: It's a c++ software and We changed the compiler from diab cc to gcc. 2) hw part: we have a new board, but the cpu is still powerpc405s. I tried every possible way but still can't figure out the reason. Any thoughts?

  Hi, I am so confused about how to build up a 3-dimension lookup table. Is the template as follows: create a 3 dimensional array to store data. Then create linked list. Then create function 'insert' to put all the data into the array? As some book said, linked list should be static const, is it need to create another function to expand the list? Because the lookup table should be used in a microcontroller, it only needs to finish the operation of putting the data into the array and whenever want to find the data, it will be fast and easy to search. Could you help me with that and give me some suggestions? Thank you.
