Can I use clone() to create objects with specific settings if I have one object created? I know I need to override the Clone method. Is the performance going to take a hit by using Clone()?

  I'd like to implement a spinner control (something along these lines) in Silverlight 4 to display during pending operations. There are several examples on the web for Silverlight 3 but I'm either unable to compile them into my project or they just flat out display nothing. In addition I'm unable to find any examples specific to Silverlight 4. Can someone please post a sample for Silverlight 4 or a link to one?

• How does porting between Linux and Windows work?

  If a particular piece of software is made to be run on one platform and the programmer/company/whatever wants to port it to the other, what exactly is done? I mean, do they just rewrite linux or windows-specific references to the equivalent in the other? Or is an entire rewrite necessary? Just trying to understand what makes it so cost-prohibitive that so many major vendors don't port their software to Linux (specifically thinking about Adobe) Thanks

  What is the easiest way to detect a character in a text field? I want to be able to detect a certain character and replace that character with another specific character.   What is the purpose of the 'self' word in python. I understand it refers to the specific object created from that class, but i cant see why it explicitly needs to be added to very function as a parameter. To illustrate, in ruby, i could do this: class myClass def myFunc(name) @name = name end end Which i understand, quite easily, However in python i need to include self: class myClass: def myFunc(self, name): self.name = name Can anyone talk me through this?   I have an html textarea that is of fixed width, but variable height. I would like to set overflow:scroll and be able to show a vertical scrollbar, but not a horizontal one. I am not able to use overflow:auto due to other things specific to my situation. I know there is no way using CSS 2 to show only vertical but not horizontal scrollbars. Is there anything I can do with javascript to hide the horizontal scrollbar?
