• Dropdown list with a "Select All" option

  I have three dropdown boxes, Region, District, and City. I want my District dropdown to have a "Select All" option so the user can get all Cities in the Region, else just display the City based on the selected District. My query looks like this: IF @district =-2 THEN (SELECT DISTINCT city FROM myTable WHERE RIGHT(Region, 3) = ?) ORDER BY city) ELSE (select DISTINCT city FROM myTable WHERE District = ?) Order by city I'm using vb.net/sql I couldn't find any complex case scenarios in my search either. Any sugguestions would be appreciated!

• What did I do wrong here when trying to unit test a class that references a web service

  So I had a class that referenced a class that referenced another class that called a web service. So I learn how to create an interface using partial classes. I inject the web service through the constructor. Then my unit test fails because I am newing up the actual web service in the second level of the class. So I end up modifying all three classes to pass the web service down through the constructor... was not happy :-( gave up.... what should I be doing in this case?

• C++, Get text from a website, part 3

  So, thanks for all the help guys, I am just have one last problem, I am putting the website source in a char var, and then reading the product title (I have gotten that), however it only works if I take part of the source, or only the html from one of the featured products on neweggs page. I think the program is crashing, because it doesnt know which title to pick when I need to get all three titles and put them into an array. Any ideas? Thanks. • Hard drive randomly sppeeding up

  Having a weird issue with my hard drive. Running Windows 7 with an I5 processor. At random times the hard drive will start running at top speed and gradually return to normal over the next two minutes or so. Going to Resource Monitor it shows a variety of things with high read or write numbers. Log files NTFS volume log, Windows prefetch, System/user/appdata, and Program data Norton are the usual top ones listed. This just started about three months ago although the computer is about 3 years old. Have run in safe mode with internet over the weekend going to all of my usual sites with no such speed up. Question 1 - what can be causing this? Question 2 - how can I find out where data is being sent(especially if over the net)? Thank you.

• IE6 and IE7 Standalone: Prove they're not the real thing

  It's common knowledge on SO (see this question) that to run IE6 and IE7 you need a Windows box (or virtual box) with only those apps installed. I doubt this is true (they are the real versions, I think). The two browsers I'm interested in are: Standalone IE6 from the MultipleIEs install Standalone IE7 also from Tredosoft (but published elsewhere) These two plus a "real" install of IE8 give you three IE versions in one Windows install. While we all know that "You're out of luck if you're trying to run them all reliably in one VM," but can someone please show me JS, CSS, or HTML (or a plugin, etc.) that does not work on the standalone versions as it should?

• SQL Database application written in Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2010

  Hello, I am writing a program and part of it is to store the keyed entry in a database on an sql server when the enter key is hit. The database is small and simple with only three entry spots in the table. one for the tracking number, one for the date entered, and one for the time entered. The only thing the user will see is the tracking number text box and an enter button. the date and time will be auto entered when the enter key is hit. i am relatively new to databases so i cannot figure out how to send the data to the database. The database is already configured, just need to get the program and the database talking to eachother. Thanks.

  I have three classes; Classes A and B both reference class C. How can I make it so members of class C can be modified when referenced from class A but not modified when referenced from class B? IE, the following should be possible; classA myClassA = new classA(); myClassA.myClassC.IssueNumber = 3; But this should not be possible; classB myClassB = new classB(); myClassB.myClassC.IssueNumber = 3; Making classB.classC read-only still allows properties of classC to be altered.   First-class value can be passed as an argument returned from a subroutine assigned into a variable. Second-class value just can be passed as an argument. Third-class value even can't be passed as an argument. Why should these things defined like that? As I understand, "can be passed as an argument" means it can be pushed into the runtime stack;"can be assigned into a variable" means it can be moved into a different location of the memory; "can be returned from a subroutine" almost has the same meaning of "can be assigned into a variable" since the returned value always be put into a known address, so first class value is totally "movable" or "dynamic",second class value is half "movable" , and third class value is just "static", such as labels in C/C++ which just can be addressed by goto statement, and you can't do nothing with that address except "goto" .Does My understanding make any sense? or what do these three kinds of values mean exactly?

• How to design model for multi-tiered data?

  Say I have three types of object: Area, Subarea and Topic. I want to be able to display an Area, which is just a list of Subareas and the Topics contained in those Subareas. I never want to be able to display Subareas separately - they're just for breaking up the Topics. Topics can, however, appear in multiple Areas (but probably under the same Subarea). How would I design a model for this? I could use ForeignKey from Topic to Subarea and from Subarea to Area, but it seems unnecessarily complex given that I never want to interact with subareas themselves. Also, none of these objects are ever altered or added to by the user. They're just for me to represent information. Maybe there is a better way to represent it all?

• Combining XSLT transforms

  Is there a way to combine two XSLT documents into a single XSLT document that does the same as transforming using the original two in sequence? i.e. Combining XSLTA and XSLTB into XSLTC such that XSLTB( XSLTA( xml )) == XSLTC( xml )? There's three reasons I'd like to be able to do this: Simplifies development; some operations need sequential transforms, and although I can generate a combined one by hand, it's a lot more difficult to maintain that two much simpler, separate transforms. Speed; one transform is in most cases hopefully faster than two. I'm currently working on a program that literally just transforms a data file in XML into an XHTML page capable of editing it using one XSLT, and a second XSLT that transforms the XHTML page back into the data file when it's saved. One test I hope to be able to do is to combine the two, and easily confirm that the 'combined' XSLT should leave the data unchanged.

I've tried Intent and Bundle , but that didn't work and force close . Maybe because of the TabActivity I think . 2. If I have a layout and there are many TextView on it. But some are out of the screen. How can I scroll the screen? 3. Is it possible that TextView in Tablelayout can be clicked ? • Is directly executing SQL bad app design?

  I'm developing an iOS application that's a manager/viewer for another project. The idea is the app will be able to process the data stored in a database into a number of visualizations-- the overall effect being similar to cacti. I'm making the visualizations fully user-configurable: the user defines what she wants to see and adds restrictions. She might specify, for instance, to graph a metric over the last three weeks with user accounts that are currently active and aren't based in the United States. My problem is that the only design I can think of is more or less passing direct SQL from the iOS app to the backend server to be executed against the database. I know it's bad practice and everything should be written in terms of stored procedures. But how else do I maintain enough flexiblity to keep fully user-defined queries? While the application does compose the SQL, direct SQL is never visible or injectable by the user. That's all abstracted away in UIDateTimeChoosers, UIPickerViews, and the like.

  Declaring a property in a derived class that matches the name of a property in the base class "hides" it (unless it overrides it with the override keyword). Both the base and derived class properties will be returned by Type.GetProperties() if their types don't match. However, if their types do match, shockingly only the derived class's property is returned. For instance: class A { protected double p; public int P { get { return (int)p; } set { p = value; } } } class B : A { public new int P { get { return (int)p; } set { p = value; } } } class C : B { public new float P { get { return (float)p; } set { p = value; } } } Calling typeof(C).GetProperties() will only return B.P and C.P. Is it possible to call GetProperties() in a way that returns all three? There is almost certainly a way to do it by traversing the inheritance hierarchy, but is there a cleaner solution?

• JPA @version - can it be used to calcualate version of a table entry

  Hi, Please consider the following table (created using a corresponding entity) request ------- id requestor type version items 1 a t1 1 5 2 a t1 2 3 3 b t1 1 2 4 a t2 1 4 5 a t1 3 9 The above is what I want to achieve. The version field is a calculated field others are user provided. Basically the request's version needs to be calculated based on the combination of requestor and the type. The first occurance with a given combination will have a version 1 then version 2 and so on. I tried various things using @version on a different entity with just the three columns and joining the two entities using ManytoOne etc but I'm not able to get to the desired outcome. I dont want to confuse you with the things I tried. Since the objective is simple there should be an easier way I suppose? Can you please help? - any help greatly appreciated! thanks in advance

• Create categorial variable in R based on range

  I have a dataframe with a column of integers that I would like to use as a reference to make a new categorical variable. I want to divide the variable into three groups and set the ranges myself (ie 0-5, 6-10, etc). I tried cut but that divides the variable into groups based on a normal distribution and my data is right skewed. I have also tried to use if/then statements but this outputs a true/false value and I would like to keep my original variable. I am sure that there is a simple way to do this but I cannot seem to figure it out. Any advice on a simple way to do this quickly?

  My program frequently stops with a deadlock. I have a system with an input: | 1 2 3 4 5 6 ... 32 | 33 | | 1000 0001 0010 0100 1000 1000 ... 0100 | 0 0 1 | You have to read this without the "|" character. I just wanted you to see that the last three elements in the input are staying together. The result have to be a number between 1-32, which has the value "1000" in the input. In my training set I will always have a result for an array of this kind. What kind of functions can I use for the teaching algorithm? Can you point me please to the right way? • FETCH INTO doesn't raise an exception if the set is empty, does it?

  Here is some actual code I'm trying to debug: BEGIN OPEN bservice (coservice.prod_id); FETCH bservice INTO v_billing_alias_id, v_billing_service_uom_id, v_summary_remarks; CLOSE bservice; v_service_found := 1; -- An empty fetch is expected for some services. EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN v_service_found := 0; END; When the parametrized cursor bservice(prod_id) is empty, it fetches NULL into the three variables and does not throw an exception. So whoever wrote this code expecting it to throw an exception was wrong, right? The comment seems to imply that and empty fetch is expected and then it sets a flag for later handling, but I think this code cannot possibly have been tested with empty sets either. Obviously, it should use bservice%NOTFOUND or bservice%FOUND or similar.
