• C: using a lot of structs can make a program slow?

  I am coding a breakout clone. I had one version in which I only had one level deep of structures. This version runs at 70 fps. For more clarity in the code I decided the code should have more abstractions and created more structs. Most of the times I have two two three level deep of structures. This version runs at 30 fps. Since there are some other differences besides the structures, I ask you: Does using a lot of structs in C can slow down the code significantly? Thanks.

• Can I submit iPhone applications with same Icon.png but differnt bundle name

  Can some one tell me if it is possible to submit two different iphone applications which has same Icon.png but have a different bundle name? I am working on a travel guide app that is targeted for different cities. I want the users of different cities to download the app as per their cities. So I want to submit different apps for different cities(3 in my case). User can also purchase any of these cities through in-app purchase. In that case the new purchased city would be unlocked in the app. Here is my thing. I want the same icon for all the three apps. I can do away with different names for app store and bundle(home screen icon name). But I am not sure if apple would approve/reject this app. Can someone enhance this blur picture I have?

• Using ggplot in R

  I have a time series cvs file like this (in var there are the values): Hour,Date,Type,val1,val2,val3,val4,val5,val6..... 0100,0153,aaa, 0100,0153,bbb, 0100,0153,ccc, 0100,0153,ddd, 0200,0153,aaa, 0200,0153,bbb, 0200,0153,ccc, 0200,0153,ddd, . . 0100,0154,aaa, 0100,0154,bbb, 0100,0154,ccc, 0100,0154,ddd, . . I would like to use ggplot to plot the barplot mean of the time series of val1,val2,... for each type. One plot for each type except for ccc and ddd that should be considered as one type, so for this I should first sum up the value, then take the mean, then plot). So three plot at the end. • Multiple levels of 'collection.defaultdict' in Python

  Thanks to some great folks on SO, I discovered the possibilities offered by collections.defaultdict, notably in readability and speed. I have put them to use with success. Now I would like to implement three levels of dictionaries, the two top ones being defaultdict and the lowest one being int. I don't find the appropriate way to do this. Here is my attempt: from collections import defaultdict d = defaultdict(defaultdict) a = [("key1", {"a1":22, "a2":33}), ("key2", {"a1":32, "a2":55}), ("key3", {"a1":43, "a2":44})] for i in a: d[i[0]] = i[1] Now this works, but the following, which is the desired behavior, doesn't: d["key4"]["a1"] + 1 I suspect that I should have declared somewhere that the second level defaultdict is of type int, but I didn't find where or how to do so. The reason I am using defaultdict in the first place is to avoid having to initialize the dictionary for each new key. Any more elegant suggestion? Thanks pythoneers!

  Hi I do have three dlls. a.dll - released many years ago b.dll - released not so many years c.dll - released shortly Each one contains the same function - unfortunatelly with different parameters. so I do have the following Methods aMethod(param1) aMethod(param1, param2) aMethod(param1, param2, param3) My Task is to make a new dll (or new dlls) wich is backward compatible. But as far as I've learned from Google there is no possibility to overload methods in a dll. Does any one have a tip how I can solve this problem elegantly? -- Michael

  Hello All, I want to ensure I have done all I can to configure a system's disks for serious database use. The three areas I know of (any others?) to be concerned about are: I/O size: the database engine and disk's native size should either match, or the database's native I/O size should be a multiple of the disk's native I/O size. Disks that are capable of Direct Memory Access (eg. IDE) should be configured for it. When a disk says it has written data persistently, it must be so! No keeping it in cache and lying about it. I have been looking for information on how to ensure these are so for CENTOS and Ubuntu, but can't seem to find anything at all! I want to be able to check these things and change them if needed. Any and all input appreciated.

  Here's a simple question I've been stuck on for a while. When I set < identity impersonate=true > in my web.config so that asp.net impersonates the logged on user automatically (or the anonymous account if not using Windows Authentication), where does the identity that asp.net impersonates come from? This document: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff649264.aspx shows three places you can retrieve information about the logged on user: Httpcontext.Current.user System.Threading.Thread.Current System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent It seems that none of these locations consistently match the identity that gets impersonated when I set < identity impersonate=true > in web.config. I would like to know where the impersonated identity comes from.

• Consolidating separate Loan, Purchase & Sales tables into one transaction table.

  INFORMIX-SE with ISQL 7.3: I have separate tables for Loan, Purchase & Sales transactions. Each tables rows are joined to their respective customer rows by: customer.id [serial] = loan.foreign_id [integer]; = purchase.foreign_id [integer]; = sale.foreign_id [integer]; I would like to consolidate the three tables into one table called "transaction", where a column "transaction.trx_type" [char(1)] {L=Loan, P=Purchase, S=Sale} identifies the transaction type. Is this a good idea or is it better to keep them in separate tables? Storage space is not a concern, I think it would be easier programming & user=wise to have all types of transactions under one table.

  I need to compare list_a against many others. my problem starts when there's a duplicated item in the other lists (two k's in other_b). my goal is to filter out all the lists with the same items (up to three matching items). list_a = ['j','k','a','7'] other_b = ['k', 'j', 'k', 'q'] other_c = ['k','k','9','k'] >>>filter(lambda x: not x in list_a,other_b) ['q'] I need a way that would return ['k', 'q'], because 'k' appears only once in list_a. comparing list_a and other_c with set() isn't good for my purpose since it will return only one element: k. while I need ['k','9','k'] I hope I was clear enough. • Identifying control characters in Perl

  Actually, I am doing one project. In that I want to implement the command line features as like in linux terminal. And I saw this in ftp command also. If I press tab I need to list the commands. If I press control characters I need to get that characters based on that I will do some action. And If I give any commands it should execute. For this I tried with Term::ReadKey that is non canonical mode. But here I am facing more problems like, If I press any control character or arrow I got three characters. Ex: for up arrow I got ascii as 279165. Can anyone help me out of this problem? And I feel that there will be a better solution for this. Thanks in Advance.

  I have a survey database with one column for each question and one row for each person who responds. Each question is answered with a value from 1 to 3. Id Quality? Finally, I need to calculate the total score, which is the number of 1's plus two times the number of 2's plus three times the number of threes.   I want to setup table constraints for the following scenario and I’m not sure how to do it or if it’s even possible in SQL Server 2005. I have three tables A,B,C. C is a child of B. B will have a optional foreign key(may be null) referencing A. For performance reasons I also want table C to have the same foreign key reference to table A. The constraint on table C should be that C must reference its parent (B) and also have the same foreign key reference to A as its parent. Anyone have any thoughts on how to do this?

• jQuery - Drag of elements in areas - then not draggable any more

  Hello! I have three div areas. Creating an element, which is draggable() with jQuery UI, I can drag it all over the screen. Dropping it in a special area, then I can not drag it any more. I created a full working demo: http://jsbin.com/enusu4/2/ There you can create a draggable element which is placed into the left green area. Dragging it to the middle or right green area, I can not drag the element. I increment the zIndex of the elements, but it does not work. Does anyone can help me, what's wrong? Best Regards.

How can I access the file name extension so that output becomes : 'this is te... pdf' I could use substring method to access the last three characters but other file extensions could be 4 chars in length such as .aspx Is there a regular expression I can use so that "this is test truncation 1.pdf" becomes "this is te... pdf"

  I have an Android project that branched into three different applications, app-1, app-2 and app-3, that apply some customizations. Currently there is a lot of code duplication, making maintenance a nightmare: do the changes in one of the branches, and then merge the other two. So we create a library project, named app-core, that factors out most of the duplicated code. So far so good. When I launch this into an emulator where the application was already loaded (before the refactoring), I get this exception: Re-installation failed due to different application signatures A different signature? But I just added a line in the .classpath to link to the app-core Java project! The main question is: are the existing users going to be bothered by this too? And the side question: Why is it a different signature?

Suppose the current url is localhost:32401/A/B/foo if key is bar then I want to return localhost:32401/A/B/bar if key starts with a slash and is /A/bar then I want to return localhost:32401/A/bar finally if key is its own independent url then I just want to return that key = htt p://foo.com/bar - http://foo.com/bar I assume there is a way to do at least the first two cases without manipulating the strings manually, but nothing jumped out at me immediately in the os.path module.

  have an excel based CSV file with two columns (or rows, Pythonically) that I am working on. What I need to do is to perform some operations so that I can compare the two data entries in each 'row'. To be more precise, one column has constant numbers all the way down, whereas the other column has varying values. So I need to count the number of times the varying column data entry values crosses the constant value on the other column. For example, fro the csv file i have two columns: Varying Column; Constant Column 24 25 26 25 crossed 27 25 26 25 25.5 25 23 25 crossed 26 25 crossed Thus, the varying column data entries have crossed 25 three times.   Say I want to create an array of pixel values to pass into the createBitmap method described here. I have three int values r, g, b in the range 0 - 0xff. How do I transform those into a opaque pixel p? Does the alpha channel go in the high byte or the low byte? I googled up the documentation but it only states that: Each pixel is stored on 4 bytes. Each channel (RGB and alpha for translucency) is stored with 8 bits of precision (256 possible values.) This configuration is very flexible and offers the best quality.
