• I need to move a dived CSS module into the center of the page...

  I'm building a website for someone and they wanted the text and bulk of the information to be centered on the page. Problem is I can get everything contained in a tag and then assign the class, but I can't get the whole thing to center. It always hangs to the left even if I apply centering to the div class. I guess you could say that it is stuck on the left side of the page when I want everything to be centered. I would just make everything format larger but they want some space left in the background for the color and maybe some imagery later on. They haven't made up their minds. If you want to take a look here is the link where I'm building or testing stuff. I know the header and such needs to be re proportioned to fit with everything, but just as a frame of reference. Don't worry about the header, just know that I want the white text information area with the purple border to stay the same size, but just move to the center and if some one could tell me how to do that I would appreciate it greatly.

• Java iterative vs recursive

  Can anyone explain why the following recursive method is faster than the iterative one (Both are doing it string concatenation) ? • How to display controllers with proper aligning in iPhone screen ?

  I have a issue of displaying information in iPhone screen. Case is as follows. I crated a view-based application in Xcode name as myView. Then open myViewViewController.xib interface builder, change back groung color and added label at top-let (0, 0) of the view. Then I add new file named as myView2ViewController, which is subclass of UIViewController and corresponding XIB also generated. Open myView2ViewController in IB and added a label at top-left as previous. Also changed the background color. In the "applicationDidFinishLaunching" of AppDeligate do following myView2ViewController *mView = [[myView2ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"myView2ViewController" bundle:nil]; [window addSubview:mView.view]; When I run the application, it is shown as upper part of the Label is sheared. It seems as whole UI has been moved 20 px upper (Because, there is a horizontal space in the bottom). I guess this is due to some positioning. But still I could not found any way to fix it. Hope somebody will help me to identify this issue !!

  I want to get the Modify date of a file and then format it into a human readable date. I am running a C program that gets information on when a particular file was last modified. My C Code contains a sytem cmd which contains a number of egreps, awks, seds separated by pipes. • PHP - How do you secure a unique variable name?

  This function cropit, which I shamelessly stole off the internet, crops a 90x60 area from an existing image. In this code, when I use the function for more than one item (image) the one will display on top of the other (they come to occupy the same output space). I think this is because the function has the same (static) name ($dest) for the destination of the image when it's created (imagecopy). I tried, as you can see to include a second argument to the cropit function which would serve as the "name" of the $dest variable, but it didn't work. In the interest of full disclosure I have 22 hours of PHP experience (incidentally the same number of hours since the last I slept) and I am not that smart to begin with.   I have problem with rotating and moving image (UIView).   Possible Duplicate: How much do you [really] work a day When I started working (not so long ago), I was very conscientious about really working. If I didn't work for 10 minutes at a time, I felt like I was cheating. But as I started to look around me, I realized that I was the only one... and most of my coworkers were spending a big percentage of their time browsing the internet or playing solitaire. I started to slack off a little more than usual... while still basically getting all my work done. But while I do all that's required of me, and usually quickly, I no longer beg for work to fill up my spare time; I'm content to do what I'm told and play around when no one makes sure I'm busy enough. Which means that I'm often bored and underutilized. (Which I was even when I begged for work - people are pretty laid back about the workload and don't seem to realize how much I can get done if pushed to the fullest.) But I was just talking to a friend who graduated with me and also recently started working... and she came to me with the same concerns about slacking. She's working remotely, which means there are often gaps in communication when she can't really get anything done... And she's feeling guilty about it. Which made me rethink the whole thing... So, as workers, how many hours, out of the 8 standard average, are you actually working (honestly)? And, as bosses, how many hours do you expect your workers to work? And from an ethical standpoint, how much free time, or space out time, can workers have during the day without being considered to be "cheating" their office of labor and money?

• UIWebView loading/randering error after resize

  I have a screen with 2 UIWebView. The user can drag the views left and right to make the right and left view bigger (respectively) and the other one smaller (like UISplitView but customized and self made). I'm loading .html pages from strings and local .css files. After resizing the UIWebView If I load a new page there will be a black or white stripe on the right side of the UIWebView. This stripe is part of the web view (not a space between the views), and if I scroll the webView up and then down, the stripe will vanish and the page will be presented correctly. This issue occurs only in iOS 6 and only on the device (on the simulator it doesn't occur). Some notes: - The .css file contains elements with fixed position. Changing to absolute position didn't solve the problem but changed it: the black stripre occured during the drag. - As slower the drag is, the stripe will be bigger. - After resize the page is presented correctly, only when I load a new page the stripe is shown. - The time between resizing the web view and loading a page doesn't matter, it can be straight away or after couple of minutes. Now, as a workaround I create a new UIWebView and copy the old properties to the new. But than I need to reload the presented page which make a white blink... Any idea why does it happens, and how to fix it?

• Create an index only on certain rows in mysql

  So, I have this funny requirement of creating an index on a table only on a certain set of rows. This is what my table looks like: USER: userid, friendid, created, blah0, blah1, ..., blahN Now, I'd like to create an index on: (userid, friendid, created) but only on those rows where userid = friendid. The reason being that this index is only going to be used to satisfy queries where the WHERE clause contains "userid = friendid". There will be many rows where this is NOT the case, and I really don't want to waste all that extra space on the index. Another option would be to create a table (query table) which is populated on insert/update of this table and create a trigger to do so, but again I am guessing an index on that table would mean that the data would be stored twice. How does mysql store Primary Keys? I mean is the table ordered on the Primary Key or is it ordered by insert order and the PK is like a normal unique index? I checked up on clustered indexes (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/innodb-index-types.html), but it seems only InnoDB supports them. I am using MyISAM (I mention this because then I could have created a clustered index on these 3 fields in the query table). • Java: Efficient Equivalent to Removing while Iterating a Collection

  Hello everyone. We all know you can't do this: for (Object i : l) if (condition(i)) l.remove(i); ConcurrentModificationException etc... this apparently works sometimes, but not always. Anyway. What's the best solution to this problem? "Best" here means most time and space efficient (I realize you can't always have both!) I'm also using an arbitrary Collection here, not necessarily an ArrayList, so you can't rely on get.

• What is the last entry in an unfilled array (C++)?

  I put C++ because I'm just starting in C# and I'm not sure if there's a difference. if you declare an array char arr[10] and fill in values for arr[0] through arr[8], what value will be put in arr[9]? a space ' '? An endline '\n'? '\0'? Or is it nothing at all? I'm asking this because I've always used tactics like this char word[20]; for(count = 0 ; count < 20 ; count++) { cout << word[count]; } to print the entire contents of an array, and I was wondering if I could simplify it (e.g., if the last entry was '\0') by using something like this char word[20]; while(word[count] != '\0') { cout << word[count]; } that way, I wouldn't have to remember how many pieces of data were entered into an array if all the spaces weren't filled up. If you know an even faster way, let me know. I tend to make a bunch of mistakes on arrays.

• How is an array stored in memory?

  In an interest to delve deeper into how memory is allocated and stored, I have written an application that can scan memory address space, find a value, and write out a new value. I developed a sample application with the end goal to be able to programatically locate my array, and overwrite it with a new sequence of numbers. In this situation, I created a single dimensional array, with 5 elements, e.g. int[] array = new int[] {8,7,6,5,4}; I ran my application and searched for a sequence of the five numbers above. I was looking for any value that fell between 4 and 8, for a total of 5 numbers in a row. Unforuntately, my the sequential numbers in my array matched hundreds of results, as the numbers 4 through 8, in no particular sequence happened to be next to each other, in memory, in many situations. Is there any way to distinguish that a set of numbers within memory, represents an array, not simply integers that are next to each other? Is there any way of knowing that if I find a certain value, that the matching values proceeding it are that of an array? I would assume that when I declare int[] array, its pointing at the first address of my array, which would provide some kind of meta-data to what existed in the array, e.g. 0x123456789 meta-data, 5 - 32 bit integers 0x123456789 + 32 "8" 0x123456789 + 64 "7" 0x123456789 + 96 "6" 0x123456789 + 128 "5" 0x123456789 + 160 "4" Am I way off base?

• Travelling software. Is that a concept?

  Hi! This is barely a sensible question. I would like to ask if there existed a program, which were intended to travel (for example following some physical forces) across the planet, possibly occupying and freeing computational resources/nodes. Literally that means that some agent-based system is just regularly changing it's location and (inevitably to some extent) configuration. An example would be: suppose you have external sensors, and free computers - nodes - across the space; would it make sense to self-replicate agents to follow the initializers from sensors, but in such restrictive manner that the computation is only localized at where the physical business is going on. I want to stress that this question is just for 'theoretical' fun, cause I cannot see any practical benefits of the restrictions mentioned, apart from the optimization of 'outdated' (outplaced?) agent disposal. But maybe it could be of some interest. Thank you! EDIT: It's obvious that a virus is fitting example, although the deletion of such agents is rarely of concern of the developers. More precisely, I'm interested in 'travelling' software - that is, when the count (or at least order) of the agents is kind of constant, and it's just the whole system who travels.

  I'm implementing a cache server with MongoDB and ConcurrentHashMap java class. When there are available space to put object in memory, it will put at. Otherwise, the object will be saved in a mongodb database. Is allowed that user specify a size limit in memory (this should not exceed heap size limit obviously!) for the memory cache. The clients can use the cache service connecting through RMI. I need to know the size of each object to verify if a new incoming object can be put into memory. But, in terms of memory use doesn't solve my problem. :( If many clients are verifying the object size at same time this will cause stack overflow, right? Well... some people can say: Why you don't get the specific object size and store it in memory and when another object is need to put in memory check the object size? This is not possible because the objects are variable in size. :( Someone can help me? I was thinking in get socket from RMI communication, but I don't know how to do this...

  This might be a stupid question. Or maybe my hacking skills are limited (I don't practice them at all). However, there are ways. We all know how easy it is to replace a space for something else which is still valid.. So, it's not really a problem to make a potentially harmful piece of SQL reach that $something... But is there any way to comment the rest of the original query string if it is multi-line? I can comment AND table_z.field4 = '1' using ;-- but can't comment the following AND table_z.field5 = '2' Is it possible to open a multi-line comment /* without closing it or something looked like and therefore allow the injection to ignore the multi-line query?

When we are calling the LogonUser method, we are using the LOGON32_LOGON_NETWORK as the logon type. The issue we have found is that user profile folders are being created under the C:\Users folder of the web server. The folder seems to be created when a new user who has never logged on before is logging in for the first time. As the number of new users logging into the application grows, disk space is shrinking due to the large number of new user folders getting created. Has anyone seen this behavior with the Win32 LogonUser method? Does anyone know how to disable this behavior? I have tried LOGON32_LOGON_BATCH but it was giving an error 1385 in authentication user. I need either of the solution 1) Is there any way to stop the folder generation. 2) What parameter I need to pass this to work? Thanks

  Android SDK Manager complains "WARNING: Java not found in your path". Instead of using the information from Windows registry, the software tries to search Java in the default installation folders, and fails (I don't install software in program files because I don't like space characters in my paths). Of course I know how to modify the %PATH% environment variable. The question is — which Java does it need? After installing the latest JDK, I’ve got 4 distinct versions of java.exe file, in the following 4 folders: system32, jre6\bin, jdk1.6.0_26\bin, and jdk1.6.0_26\jre\bin. Size ranges from 145184 to 171808. All of them print version “1.6.0_26” when launched with the “-version” argument. The one in system32 has .exe version “6.0.250.6”, the rest of them is “6.0.260.3”. All 4 files are different (I’ve calculated the MD5 checksums). Q1. Which folder should I add to %PATH% to make the Android SDK happy? Q2. Why does Oracle build that many variants of java.exe of the same version for the same platform? Thanks in advance! P.S. I'm using Windows 7 SP1 x64 home premium, and downloaded the 64-bit version of JDK, jdk-6u26-windows-x64.exe.

  Hi everyone, I'm doing a theatrical performance, and I need a program that can read images from a folder and display them full screen on one of the computer's VGA outputs, in a predetermined order. All it needs to do is start with the first image, and when a key is pressed (space bar, right arrow), smoothly cross-fade to the next image. Sounds just like power-point right? The only reason why I can use power-point/open-office is because the "fade smoothly" transition isn't smooth enough, or configurable enough. It tends to be fast and choppy, where I would like to see a perfectly smooth fade over, say, 30 seconds. So the question is what is the best (cheap and fast) way to accomplish this? Is there a program that already does this well (for cheap or free)? OR should I try to hack at open-office's transition code? Or would it be easier to create this from scratch? Are there frameworks that might make it easier? I have web programming experience (php), but not desktop or real-time rendering. Any suggestions are appreciated!
