  • Getting a NullPointerException at seemingly random intervals, not sure why

    - by Miles
    I'm running an example from a Kinect library for Processing (http://www.shiffman.net/2010/11/14/kinect-and-processing/) and sometimes get a NullPointerException pointing to this line: int rawDepth = depth[offset]; The depth array is created in this line: int[] depth = kinect.getRawDepth(); I'm not exactly sure what a NullPointerException is, and much googling hasn't really helped. It seems odd to me that the code compiles 70% of the time and returns the error unpredictably. Could the hardware itself be affecting it? Here's the whole example if it helps: // Daniel Shiffman // Kinect Point Cloud example // http://www.shiffman.net // https://github.com/shiffman/libfreenect/tree/master/wrappers/java/processing import org.openkinect.*; import org.openkinect.processing.*; // Kinect Library object Kinect kinect; float a = 0; // Size of kinect image int w = 640; int h = 480; // We'll use a lookup table so that we don't have to repeat the math over and over float[] depthLookUp = new float[2048]; void setup() { size(800,600,P3D); kinect = new Kinect(this); kinect.start(); kinect.enableDepth(true); // We don't need the grayscale image in this example // so this makes it more efficient kinect.processDepthImage(false); // Lookup table for all possible depth values (0 - 2047) for (int i = 0; i < depthLookUp.length; i++) { depthLookUp[i] = rawDepthToMeters(i); } } void draw() { background(0); fill(255); textMode(SCREEN); text("Kinect FR: " + (int)kinect.getDepthFPS() + "\nProcessing FR: " + (int)frameRate,10,16); // Get the raw depth as array of integers int[] depth = kinect.getRawDepth(); // We're just going to calculate and draw every 4th pixel (equivalent of 160x120) int skip = 4; // Translate and rotate translate(width/2,height/2,-50); rotateY(a); for(int x=0; x<w; x+=skip) { for(int y=0; y<h; y+=skip) { int offset = x+y*w; // Convert kinect data to world xyz coordinate int rawDepth = depth[offset]; PVector v = depthToWorld(x,y,rawDepth); stroke(255); pushMatrix(); // Scale up by 200 float factor = 200; translate(v.x*factor,v.y*factor,factor-v.z*factor); // Draw a point point(0,0); popMatrix(); } } // Rotate a += 0.015f; } // These functions come from: http://graphics.stanford.edu/~mdfisher/Kinect.html float rawDepthToMeters(int depthValue) { if (depthValue < 2047) { return (float)(1.0 / ((double)(depthValue) * -0.0030711016 + 3.3309495161)); } return 0.0f; } PVector depthToWorld(int x, int y, int depthValue) { final double fx_d = 1.0 / 5.9421434211923247e+02; final double fy_d = 1.0 / 5.9104053696870778e+02; final double cx_d = 3.3930780975300314e+02; final double cy_d = 2.4273913761751615e+02; PVector result = new PVector(); double depth = depthLookUp[depthValue];//rawDepthToMeters(depthValue); result.x = (float)((x - cx_d) * depth * fx_d); result.y = (float)((y - cy_d) * depth * fy_d); result.z = (float)(depth); return result; } void stop() { kinect.quit(); super.stop(); } And here are the errors: processing.app.debug.RunnerException: NullPointerException at processing.app.Sketch.placeException(Sketch.java:1543) at processing.app.debug.Runner.findException(Runner.java:583) at processing.app.debug.Runner.reportException(Runner.java:558) at processing.app.debug.Runner.exception(Runner.java:498) at processing.app.debug.EventThread.exceptionEvent(EventThread.java:367) at processing.app.debug.EventThread.handleEvent(EventThread.java:255) at processing.app.debug.EventThread.run(EventThread.java:89) Exception in thread "Animation Thread" java.lang.NullPointerException at org.openkinect.processing.Kinect.enableDepth(Kinect.java:70) at PointCloud.setup(PointCloud.java:48) at processing.core.PApplet.handleDraw(PApplet.java:1583) at processing.core.PApplet.run(PApplet.java:1503) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:637)

  • Rendering a view to a string in ASP.NET MVC 2

    - by Frank Rosario
    We need to render an ActionResult to a string to add pages to our internal search engine index. We settled on this solution to render to string. I've run into a problem with the ExecuteResult call used to process the View. Code Snippet: var oldController = controllerContext.RouteData.Values["controller"]; controllerContext.RouteData.Values["controller"] = typeof(TController).Name.Replace("Controller", ""); viewResult.ExecuteResult(controllerContext); // this line breaks I receive the following error: "Object reference not set to instance of object" error. I've confirmed viewResult is not null, so the exception has to be thrown internally in ExecuteResult. What could we be missing?

  • How to get a list of all domains?

    - by AngryHacker
    I'm trying to get all domains that are available in the Windows Login dialog (in the Domain dropdown). I've tried the following code but it only returns the domain I am logged into. Am I missing something? StringCollection domainList = new StringCollection(); try { DirectoryEntry en = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://"); // Search for objectCategory type "Domain" DirectorySearcher srch = new DirectorySearcher("objectCategory=Domain"); SearchResultCollection coll = srch.FindAll(); // Enumerate over each returned domain. foreach (SearchResult rs in coll) { ResultPropertyCollection resultPropColl = rs.Properties; foreach( object domainName in resultPropColl["name"]) { domainList.Add(domainName.ToString()); } } } catch (Exception ex) { Trace.Write(ex.Message); } return domainList;

  • Strange behaviour with Microsoft.WindowsCE.Forms

    - by Mohammadreza
    I have a Windows Mobile application in which I want to check the device orientation. Therefore I wrote the following property in one of my forms: internal static Microsoft.WindowsCE.Forms.ScreenOrientation DeviceOriginalOrientation { get; private set; } The strange thing is that after that whenever I open a UserControl, the designer shows this warning even if that UserControl doesn't use the property: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.WindowsCE.Forms, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=969db8053d3322ac' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040) Commenting the above property will dismiss the warning and shows the user control again. The application is built successfully and runs without any problems in both cases. Does anybody know why this happens and how can I fix it?

  • creating a Menu from SQLite values in Java

    - by shanahobo86
    I am trying to create a ListMenu using data from an SQLite database to define the name of each MenuItem. So in a class called menu.java I have defined the array String classes [] = {}; which should hold each menu item name. In a DBAdapter class I created a function so the user can insert info to a table (This all works fine btw). public long insertContact(String name, String code, String location, String comments, int days, int start, int end, String type) { ContentValues initialValues = new ContentValues(); initialValues.put(KEY_NAME, name); initialValues.put(KEY_CODE, code); initialValues.put(KEY_LOCATION, location); initialValues.put(KEY_COMMENTS, comments); initialValues.put(KEY_DAYS, days); initialValues.put(KEY_START, start); initialValues.put(KEY_END, end); initialValues.put(KEY_TYPE, type); return db.insert(DATABASE_TABLE, null, initialValues); } It would be the Strings inserted into KEY_NAME that I need to populate that String array with. Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks so much for the help guys. If I implement that function by Sam/Mango the program crashes, am I using it incorrectly or is the error due to the unknown size of the array? DBAdapter db = new DBAdapter(this); String classes [] = db.getClasses(); edit: I should mention that if I manually define the array: String classes [] = {"test1", "test2", "test3", etc}; It works fine. The error is a NullPointerException Here's the logcat (sorry about the formatting). I hadn't initialized with db = helper.getReadableDatabase(); in the getClasses() function but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem. 11-11 22:53:39.117: D/dalvikvm(17856): Late-enabling CheckJNI • Problem updating blog with hibernate?

    - by johnsmith51
    hi, i am having problem updating a blob with hibernate. my model have these getters/setters for hibernate, i.e. internally i deal with byte[] so any getter/setter convert the byte[] to blog. I can create an initial object without problem, but if I try to change the content of the blob, the database column is not updated. I do not get any error message, everything looks fine, except that the database is not updated. /** do not use, for hibernate only */ public Blob getLogoBinaryBlob() { if(logoBinary == null){ return null; } return Hibernate.createBlob(logoBinary); } /** do not use, for hibernate only */ public void setLogoBinaryBlob(Blob logoBinaryBlob) { ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); try { logoBinary = toByteArrayImpl(logoBinaryBlob, baos); } catch (Exception e) { } }

  • Returning a JSON view in combination with a boolean

    - by Rody van Sambeek
    What i would like to accomplish is that a partiel view contains a form. This form is posted using JQuery $.post. After a successfull post javascript picks up the result and uses JQuery's html() method to fill a container with the result. However now I don't want to return the Partial View, but a JSON object containing that partial view and some other object (Success - bool in this case). I tried it with the following code: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Edit(int id, Item item) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { try { // ... return Json(new { Success = true, PartialView = PartialView("Edit", item) }); } catch(Exception ex) { // ... } } return Json(new { Success = false, PartialView = PartialView("Edit", item) }); } However I don't get the HTML in this JSON object and can't use html() to show the result. I tried using this method to render the partial as Html and send that. However this fails on the RenderControl(tw) method with a: The method or operation is not implemented.

  • Can't DER encode and BER decode RSA public key

    - by Mildred
    I have problems using Crypto++ to save a RSA public key (that I obtained loading a private key file in PKCS#8 format). When decoding the key, I always get a BERDecodeErr exception. Here is the code I am using: CryptoPP::RSASSA_PKCS1v15_SHA_Signer _signer; CryptoPP::RSASSA_PKCS1v15_SHA_Verifier _verifier; CryptoPP::ByteQueue bytes; //_signer.AccessPublicKey().Save(bytes); // seem to save private key instead _signer.AccessKey().DEREncodePublicKey(bytes); //_verifier.AccessKey().Load(bytes); //_verifier.AccessKey().BERDecodePublicKey(bytes, 0, 0); _verifier.AccessPublicKey().Load(bytes); I also tried with the instructions commented above, without success. How do you do to save or open the public key? The public key looks like this in hex format, is there a tool to check its format / validity (regarding what crypto++ supports) ? 3081890281810097e24f2e95504a397e90fbc56d1b330ab2ab97a0d326007b890e40013f9e1d9bd9 f54b0c0840782ddae19b5b4595d8f8b9ffe0d2120174fcbc39585c5867cd2dfba69f8e540caa2c52 de8f08278a34e9249120500117f0ba756c5bb2be660013160db9f82f75deb7ccf63742a9e945da6c cf30c2b109b73342daaabd02b872e50203010001

  • Can a grails controller extend from a base class? How to make it so grails doesn't blow up?

    - by egervari
    I wrote a base class to help build my controllers more quickly and to remove duplication. It provides some helper methods, default actions and some meta programming to make these things easier to build. One of those methods in the base class is like this: def dynamicList(Class clazz) { def model = new LinkedHashMap() model[getMapString(clazz) + "s"] = list(clazz) model[getMapString(clazz) + "sTotal"] = count(clazz) model } The action that calls it, also in the base class, is this: def list = { dynamicList(clazz) } Unfortunately, when I go to list action in the controller subclass that inherits the base class when my application is deployed, I get this exception: groovy.lang.MissingMethodException: No signature of method: groovy.lang.MissingMethodException.dynamicList() is applicable for argument types: (java.lang.Class) values: [class project .user.User] at project.user.UserController$_closure1.doCall(UserController.groovy:18) at project.user.UserController$_closure1.doCall(UserController.groovy) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619) How can I hit grails over the head and just tell it do what I want it to do? My controller unit tests run just fine, so grails' run-time is totally at fault :/ Ken

I used Socket s = new Socket(ip, port) Now it works fine. but when my internet connection is very slow that time after a long interval (even if sometimes after 2 minutes) i used to get SocketTimeOutException in that line. means it gives that error while creating socket. I want the exception should be handled properly means if internet connection is very slow then if that error occurs it happens very late now . I want if this type of error occurs then it should be caught very fast means the error should not come at such a delay interval of time rather it should come immediately. How to achieve this. Thanks Sunil Kumar Sahoo

    I have created an Attribute, call MyAttribute, which is performing some security and for some reason the Constructor is not being fired, any reason why? public class Driver { // Entry point of the program public static void Main(string[] Args) { Console.WriteLine(SayHello1("Hello to Me 1")); Console.WriteLine(SayHello2("Hello to Me 2")); Console.ReadLine(); } [MyAttribute("hello")] public static string SayHello1(string str) { return str; } [MyAttribute("Wrong Key, should fail")] public static string SayHello2(string str) { return str; } } [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Method)] public class MyAttribute : Attribute { public MyAttribute(string VRegKey) { if (VRegKey == "hello") { Console.WriteLine("Aha! You're Registered"); } else { throw new Exception("Oho! You're not Registered"); }; } }

  • fd.seek() IOError: [Errno 22] Invalid argument

    - by Julian Kessel
    My Python Interpreter (v2.6.5) raises the above error in the following codepart: fd = open("some_filename", "r") fd.seek(-2, os.SEEK_END) #same happens if you exchange the second arg. w/ 2 data=fd.read(2); last call is fd.seek() Traceback (most recent call last): File "bot.py", line 250, in <module> fd.seek(iterator, os.SEEK_END); IOError: [Errno 22] Invalid argument The strange thing with this is that the exception occurs just when executing my entire code, not if only the specific part with the file opening. At the runtime of this part of code, the opened file definitely exists, disk is not full, the variable "iterator" contains a correct value like in the first codeblock. What could be my mistake? Thanks in advance

  • Accessing WPF Template for Custom Control from Code behind

    - by Ashwani Mehlem
    Hi, i am trying to access a named grid inside a default template for a custom control from code behind. But it seems that the template for the control is null, even after calling ApplyTemplate(). Is that impossible inside the controls constuctor? Here's the code: Generic.xaml: ... <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type local:TimeTableControl}"> <Grid Name="ContentGrid"> </Grid> </ControlTemplate> ... TimeTableControl.cs: public TimeTableControl() { ApplyTemplate(); contentGrid = (Grid)(Template.FindName("ContentGrid", this)); //Line above causes null-pointer-exception ... }

  • Creating share programmatically fails with error 9

    - by Christopher
    Directory.CreateDirectory("C:\MyTestShare") Dim managementClass As New ManagementClass("Win32_Share") Dim inParams As ManagementBaseObject = managementClass.GetMethodParameters("Create") inParams.Item("Description") = "My Files Share" inParams.Item("Name") = "My Files Share" inParams.Item("Path") = "C:\MyTestShare" inParams.Item("Type") = 0 If (DirectCast(managementClass.InvokeMethod("Create", inParams, Nothing).Properties.Item("ReturnValue").Value, UInt32) <> 0) Then Throw New Exception("Unable to share directory.") End If I am using the following code to set up a share, but I am always getting a return value of 9 which means invalid name. I am passing a string and have tried to use an explicit string and I still get error 9. I am creating the share remotely rather than on local machine however. Not sure if that matter.

But in java program with apache jars i don't know how to set the encoding right. I tried with client.getParams().setParameter(CoreProtocolPNames.HTTP_CONTENT_CHARSET, "UTF-8"); but it's not working. • How do I order by foreign attribute for belongs_to refernece where there are 2 keys to foreign table

    - by Will
    I have a Model which has a belongs_to association with another Model as follows class Article belongs_to :author, :class_name => "User" end If I wanted to find all articles for a particular genre ordered by author I would do something like the following articles = Article.all(:includes => [:author], :order => "users.name") However if Article happens to have two references to User how can I sort on :author? class Article belongs_to :editor, :class_name => "User" belongs_to :author, :class_name => "User" end I have tried articles = Article.all(:includes => [:author], :order => "users.name") #=> incorrect results articles = Article.all(:includes => [:author], :order => "authors.name") #=> Exception Thrown

  • telling java to accept self-signed ssl certificate

    - by Nikita Rybak
    It looks like a standard question, but I couldn't find clear directions anywhere. I have java code trying to connect server with probably self-signed (or expired) certificate. It gives something like this [HttpMethodDirector] I/O exception (javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException) caught when processing request: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target As I understand, I have to play around with keytool and tell java that it's ok to allow this connection. But all comments I've found assume I'm fully proficient with keytool, like "generate private key for server and import it into keystore". And I'm not. Is there anybody who could post detailed instructions? I'm running unix, so bash script would be best. Not sure if it's important, but code executed in jboss. Thanks a lot!

  • 'System.Windows.Data.MultiBinding' is not a valid value for property 'Text'.

    - by chaiguy
    I'm trying to write a custom MarkupExtension that allows me to use my own mechanisms for defining a binding, however when I attempt to return a MultiBinding from my MarkupExtension I get the above exception. I have: <TextBlock Text="{my:CustomMarkup ...}" /> CustomMarkup returns a MultiBinding, but apparently Text doesn't like being set to a MultiBinding. How come it works when I say: <TextBlock> <TextBlock.Text> <MultiBinding ... /> </TextBlock.Text> </TextBlock> But it doesn't work the way I'm doing it?

  • How do you add a row to a databound datagridview using the datagridview in the gui?

    - by IsaacB
    Hi guys, I've bound a datagridview to a collection of objects. It's giving me a null reference exception when I try to add a new row to a collection (empty or otherwise) using the gui. More specifically, when there is a write event it does this. How can I override the behavior of the write event and manually add all of the columns contents to the object collection? I could disable the add new row feature and make an add button, but the built in datagridview row add looks so much more slick.
