Display custom title bar for Android with XML

In Android documentation describing "Configuring General Window Properties", it is suggested that specifying properties via XML is preferable whenever possible to avoid seeing the title bar flash. As an example, instead of setting Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE with requestWindowFeature, they set it to @android:style/Theme.NoTitleBar. Is there a similar way to set a custom title bar to be used in the XML? Update: I just found this article, according to which this article, the best way to draw a title bar is to ignore FEATURE_CUSTOM_TITLE and instead just draw the title bar as part of your main view. This would not only avoid the flashing, but also problems caused by padding.

Google Chrome: XMLHttpRequest.send() not working while doing POST.

I'm working on an application that allows the user to send a file using a form (a POST request), and that executes a series of GET requests while that file is being uploaded to gather information about the state of the upload. It works fine in IE and Firefox, but not so much in Chrome and Safari. The problem is that even though send() is called on the XMLHttpRequest object, nothing is being requested as can be seen in Fiddler. To be more specific, an event handler is placed on the "submit" event of the form, that places a timeout function call on the window: window.setTimeout(startPolling, 10); and in this function "startPolling" sequence is started that keeps firing GET requests to receive status updates from a web service that returns text/json that can be used to update the UI. Is this a limitation (perhaps security-wise?) on WebKit based browsers? Is this a Chrome bug? (I'm seeing the same behaviour in Safari though).

How TiVo is messing up customer support.

Ok, So I've gotten a TiVo and overall, I'm happy, but there have been issues and I suspect I've a defective unit. - Now the nice folks after many service calls were happy to swap it out, and to ensure continuity of service, they sent me a new unit (after a $109 deposit). That was yesterday. Today, when we go to watch a little TV, and wait for our replacement unit to arrive we find our TiVo service has been suspended. WTF? They have an exchange program, but your unit your waiting to exchange is as dead as a doornail until the replacement arrives. How hard is it to keep the old unit active for an extra week? Here is the exchange w/Tivo below... You are currently number 1 in the queue. We apologize for the delay. We will assign you to an agent as soon as one is available.The average amount of time a customer has to wait is 00:13. Kaylene (Listening) Kaylene: Thank you for contacting TiVo! My name is Kaylene. So that I may better assist you, are you an existing customer? james Fleming: yes I am, but I'm now having second thoughts about being one Kaylene: Thank you for verifying your information. How may I assist you today James? james Fleming: I've been having issues w/a tivo box & I'm getting a replacement sent out to me (after paying an additional deposit) and now my current unit is no longer activated Kaylene: I can help you today! WPF version of Application.OpenForms

I have an application in which I will have to get at another WPF window which is open. In WinForms, I was able to use: MainWindow main = (MainWindow)Application.OpenForms["MainWindow"]; To be able to access the the form. Now in WPF it does not exist. I have seen the other post on this site which is relevant, however it uses Application.Window which is not contained in the call. I just have : Current Equals GetContentStream GetCookie GetRemoteStream GetResourceStream LoadComponet RefrenceEquals ResourceAssembly SetCookie So my question is this, is there a different version for OpenForms, or is there just a different way to go about it.

Java Simple WGS84 Lat Lon to Pixel X, Y

I've read a multitude of information regarding map projection today. The amount of information available is overwhelming. I am attempting to simply convert lat, long values into a screen X, Y coordinate not using any map. I do not need the values projected onto any map, just on the window. The window itself is representing approx. a 1500x1500 meter location. Lat, Long accuracy needed is to a 1/10th of a second. What may be some simpler ways in converting lat/long representation to the screen? I've read several articles and post regarding translation onto images, but nothing related to the natural java coordinate system. Thanks for any insight.

Firebug and jQuery selectors in an iFrame

Hi all, I'm working on a web application and using the jQuery plug-in Colorbox to pop up a window that presents a form for editing elements of the parent window. I'm using Firebug to debug my Javascript and jQuery, and I noticed that I can't select an element in my Colorbox HTML form using the jQuery console command line. For instance: $date = $("#date"); returns nothing when run from the jQuery console command line, even though I have an input element with id="date" and the Firebug "element inspect" pointer can find the element in the iFrame. Is there a way to get Firebug's console to access the elements in an iFrame? Thanks for your help! Doug

Replacing UISplitViewController. New version isn't added for current orientation, frame size

My application has two different modes I am switching between by replacing the two views in a UISplitViewController. This involves instantiating the new views and a new UISplitViewController. I then set the new detail view as the UISplitViewController's delegate. I'm running into an issue where when I replace the view controllers and splitview controller, they are not properly sized or added for the current orientation. For instance, if I have my iPad in UIDeviceOrientationPortraitUpsideDown the view will be upside down when I call addSubview, but will rotate to the proper orientation after a second. In another instance, if I have the device in landscape mode and swap the views, the detail view controller is not fully stretched to the size of the view. If I rotate the device to portrait and back to landscape, its resized properly. attachEvent inserts events at the begin of the queue while addEventListener appends events to the qu

I use this simple working function to add events: function AppendEvent(html_element, event_name, event_function) { if(html_element) { if(html_element.attachEvent) //IE html_element.attachEvent("on" + event_name, event_function); else if(html_element.addEventListener) //FF html_element.addEventListener(event_name, event_function, false); }; } While doing this simple test: AppendEvent(window, 'load', function(){alert('load 1');}); AppendEvent(window, 'load', function(){alert('load 2');}); I noticed that FF3.6 addEventListener appends each new events at the end of the events' queue, therefor in the above example you would get two alerts saying 'load 1' 'load 2'. On the other side IE7 attachEvent inserts each new events at the begining of the events' queue, therefor in the above example you would get to alerts saying 'load 2' 'load 1'. Is there a way to fix this and make both to work in the same way? Thanks!

HostGator hosting account and DNS servers

I have a hosting package on HostGator on domain example.com I also got a VPS server from Digital Ocean and have setup the DNS Details on the server there (A Record pointing on DO server IP with @ as hostname) and have also setup the DNS Servers on my domain DNS Settings which is hosted on HostGator. All seem okay right now... It's been 3-4 hours I think till I made these changes and when I point to example.com I still get on the active hosting package files instead of the server files. Do I need to cancel the hosting package first before I can make this work? EDIT: If I'm in the wrong site please move it to the correct one.

Error Connecting to Oracle Database from Pentaho Report Designer

Hi all, I am new to Pentaho, and I am struggling to set up a new database connection. I am trying to connect to an Oracle 10g database, but whenever I test the connection, I get the below error. It doesn't really seem to list any specific error message so I'm not really sure what to do or where to go from this point. WPF ComboBox Binding to non string object

I'm using MVVM (MVVM Light Toolkit) and have a property on the view model which exposes a list of objects. The objects contain two properties, both strings, which correlate to an abbreviation and a description. I want the ComboBox to expose the pairing as "abbreviation - description". If I use a data template, it does this easily. I have another property on the view model which represents the object that should display as selected -- the chosen item in the ComboBox. I'm binding the ItemsSource to the list, as it represents the universe of available selections, and am trying to bind the SelectedItem to this object. I'm killing myself trying to figure out why I can't get it to work, and feeling more like a fraud by the hour. In trying to learn why this works, I created the same approach with just a list of strings, and a selected string. This works perfectly. So, it clearly has something to do with the typing... perhaps something in choosing equality? Or perhaps it has to do with the data template? self.view.frame.size in viewDidLoad and didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation are different

I created iphone view-based project, and added UINavigationController by code. - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { TestViewController *vc = [[TestViewController alloc]init]; navController = [[UINavigationController alloc]initWithRootViewController:vc]; [window addSubview:navController.view]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } After that, I checked self.view.frame.size.height in viewDidLoad and didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation, and they're different. (they're 460 and 416) I suppose the height of NavigationBar is not included in viewDidLoad, but should I add it manually (add 44)?

Hi All, Ive only posted on here a couple of times and people have been very quick and very helpful when responding so thanks. Im trying to use the UIActionsheet element in my Ipad application. But just to confuse matters im using Cocos2d aswell. But here is my problem. If coding the actionsheet with out cocos2d you would use the following code. [actionSheet showInView:self.view]; However because im using cocos2d and there is no views as such the only thing i can think of to reference is the window.. But this is located in the appdelegate class. ive tried [actionSheet showInView:self.Window]; and i get errors any help?

403 error after adding javascript to masterpage for sharepoint.

I am attempting to add highslide-with-html.js from http://highslide.com/ to my masterpage. I am receiving a 403 forbidden error when I use the provided masterpage. I have placed it in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033. Test javascript files such as pirate.js which consists solely of alert("Arr!"); have loaded from the same directory. I have provided the code for the masterpage. Hello, in C# I want to open explorer and in this explorer window must be selected some files. How to make that all files of arg would be selected, when explorer window is opened..?

Rob Blackwell on interoperability and Azure

At QCon in March we had a sample Azure application implemented in both Java and Ruby to demonstrate that the Windows Azure Platform is not just about .NET. The following is an interesting interview with Rob Blackwell, the R&D director of the partner who implemented the application. UK Interoperability Team Interviews Rob Blackwell, R&D Director at Active Web Solutions. Is Microsoft taking interoperability seriously? Yes. In the past, I think Microsoft has, quite rightly come in for criticism, but architects and developers should look at this again. The Interoperability Bridges site (http://www.interoperabilitybridges.com/ ) shows a wide range of projects that allow interoperability from Java, Ruby and PHP for example. The Windows Azure platform has been architected with interoperable APIs in mind. It's straightforward to access the various storage facilities from just about any language or platform. Azure compute is capable of running more than just C# applications! Why is interoperability important to you? My company provides consultancy and bespoke development services. We're a Microsoft Gold Partner, but we live in the real world where companies have a mix of technologies provided by a variety of vendors. When developing an enterprise software solution, you rarely have a completely blank canvas. We often see integration scenarios where we need to exchange data with legacy systems. It's not unusual to see modern Silverlight applications being built on top of Java or Mainframe based back ends. Could you give us some examples of where interoperability has been important for your projects? We developed an innovative Sea Safety system for the RNLI Lifeboats here in the UK. Commercial Fishing is one of the most dangerous professions and we helped developed the MOB Guardian System which uses satellite technology and man overboard devices to raise the alarm when a fisherman gets into trouble. The solution is implemented in .NET running on Windows, but without interoperable standards, it would have been impossible to communicate with the satellite gateway technology. We built the site using Java and Restlet and hosted it in Windows Azure Compute. The site accepts feedback from visitors and all the data is stored in Windows Azure Storage. We also ported the application to Ruby on Rails for demonstration purposes. Visitors to the stand were surprised that this was even possible. Why should Java developers be interested in Windows Azure? Windows Azure Storage consists of Blobs, Queues and Tables. The storage is scalable, durable, secure and cost-effective. Using the WindowsAzure4j library, it's easy to use, and takes just a few lines of code. If you are writing an application with large data storage requirements, or you want an offsite backup, it makes a lot of sense. Running Java applications in Azure Compute is straightforward with tools like the Tomcat Solution Accelerator (http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/winazuretomcat )and AzureRunMe (http://azurerunme.codeplex.com/ ). The Windows Azure AppFabric Service Bus can also be used to connect heterogeneous systems running on different networks and in different data centres. How can The Service Bus be considered an interoperability solution? I think that the Windows Azure AppFabric Service Bus is one of Microsoft’s best kept secrets. Think of it as “a globally scalable application plumbing kit in the sky”. If you have used Enterprise Service Buses before, you’ll be familiar with the concept. Applications can connect to the service bus to securely exchange data – these can be point to point or multicast links. With the AppFabric Service Bus, the applications can exist anywhere that has access to the Internet and the connections can traverse firewalls. This makes it easy to extend or scale your application or reach out to other networks and technologies. For example, let’s say you have a SQL Server database running on premises and you want to expose the data to a Java application running in the cloud. You could set up a point to point Service Bus connection and use JDBC. Traditionally this would have been difficult or impossible without punching holes in firewalls and compromising security. Detect user logout / shutdown in Python / GTK under Linux - SIGTERM/HUP not received

OK this is presumably a hard one, I've got an pyGTK application that has random crashes due to X Window errors that I can't catch/control. So I created a wrapper that restarts the app as soon as it detects a crash, now comes the problem, when the user logs out or shuts down the system, the app exits with status 1. But on some X errors it does so too. Google didn't find anything related to that. I guess there must be a way, am I right? :/ EDIT: OK, more stuff. But not on my System. GDM doesn't care about the script at all, when I relog, it's still running. I've also tried using shopt -s huponexit, with no success. EDIT2: Also here's some more information aboute the real code, the whole thing looks like this: Wrapper Script, that catches errors and restarts the programm -> Main Programm with GTK Mainloop -> Background Updater Thread The flow is like this: Start Wrapper -> enter restart loop while restarts < max: -> start program -> check return code -> write error to file or exit the wrapper on 0 Now on shutdown, start program return 1. That means either it did hanup or the parent process terminated, the main problem is to figure out which of these two did just happen. X Errors result in a 1 too.
