• postfix uses hostname instead of myhostname.

  Hi there, I am trying to set up an outgoing mail server for sending emails which is to relay to our ISP. In /etc/postfix/main.cf I have myhostname to ourcompany.example.com and myorigin and mydomain to $myhostname. ourcompany.example.com is resolvable. But looking at the logs in /var/log/maillog it appears that postfix does use the myhostname for the send address, but uses whatever from getmyhostname(), which is set to an internal DNS name since this is an internal server and we only send email out, but not handling incoming email. Any ideas?

• Help with specific Regex: need to match multiple instances of multiple formats in a single string.

  I apologize for the terrible title...it can be hard to try to summarize an entire situation into a single sentence. Let me start by saying that I'm asking because I'm just not a Regex expert. I've used it a bit here and there, but I just come up short with the correct way to meet the following requirements. The Regex that I'm attempting to write is for use in an XML schema for input validation, and used elsewhere in Javascript for the same purpose. There are two different possible formats that are supported. There is a literal string, which must be surrounded by quotation marks, and a Hex-value string which must be surrounded by braces. Some test cases: "this is a literal string" <-- Valid string, enclosed properly in "s "this should " still be correct" <-- Valid string, "s are allowed within (if possible, this requirement could be forgiven if necessary) "{00 11 22}" <-- Valid string, {}'s allow in strings. Another one that can be forgiven if necessary I am bad output <-- Invalid string, no "s "Some more problemss"you know <-- Invalid string, must be fully contained in "s {0A 68 4F 89 AC D2} <-- Valid string, hex characters enclosed in {}s {DDFF1234} <-- Valid string, spaces are ignored for Hex strings DEADBEEF <-- Invalid string, must be contained in either "s or {}s {0A 12 ZZ} <-- Invalid string, 'Z' is not a valid Hex character To satisfy these general requirements, I had come up with the following Regex that seems to work well enough. I'm still fairly new to Regex, so there could be a huge hole here that I'm missing.: &quot;.+&quot;|\{([0-9]|[a-f]|[A-F]| )+\} If I recall correctly, the XML Schema regex automatically assumes beginning and end of line (^ and $ respectively). So, essentially, this regex accepts any string that starts and ends with a ", or starts and ends with {}s and contains only valid Hexidecimal characters. This has worked well for me so far except that I had forgotten about another (although less common, and thus forgotten) input option that completely breaks my regex. Where I made my mistake: Valid input should also allow a user to separate valid strings (of either type, literal/hex) by a comma. This means that a single string should be able to contain more than one of the above valid strings, separated by commas. Luckily, however, a comma is not a supported character within a literal string (although I see that my existing regex does not care about commas). Example test cases: "some string",{0A F1} <-- Valid {1122},{face},"peanut butter" <-- Valid {0D 0A FF FE},"string",{FF FFAC19 85} <-- Valid (Spaces don't matter in Hex values) "Validation is allowed to break, if a comma is found not separating values",{0d 0a} <-- Invalid, comma is a delimiter, but "Validation is allowed to break" and "if a comma..." are not marked as separate strings with "s hi mom,"hello" <-- Invalid, String1 was not enclosed properly in "s or {}s My thoughts are that it is possible to use commas as a delimiter to check each "section" of the string to match a regex similar to the original, but I just am not that advanced in regex yet to come up with a solution on my own.   Hi, I know that the date -s <STRING> command sets the time described by the string STRING. What i want is to log the above command whenever it is used to set the time into the file /tmp/log/user.log. In my Linux distribution the logging is done by syslog-ng. I already have some logs going into /tmp/log/user.log.   I have a Gmail account and a second email address. The mail from this second address is forwarded to the Gmail address. I use Thunderbird to read my email, but there's a little problem with the Reply2All feature. See, I have one of the addresses registered as my email address in Thunderbird. If somebody sends me an email on the other address, and I click reply 2 all, it doesn't recognize that address as mine, so it adds it to the recipient list - I am mailing myself. Anything I can do to fix this? Some way to let TB recognize both addresses?

• Migrate Thunderbird 3 Saved Searches Between Accounts

  Long story short, the sysadmins have moved me to a new mailserver. In the process, they needed to create a separate account in Thunderbird and disable my old account. They took care of all of the mail migration. However, my saved search folders didn't go along for the ride. I have over 20 complex searches that I'd rather not have to reenter manually by hand. You can't drag saved searches between accounts like other folders. I tried closing Thunderbird, doing a find/replace in virtualFolders.dat in my Thunderbird profile folder, saving that file, and reopening Thunderbird, but that didn't appear to do anything. I'm assuming the search folders are also saved in one of the sqlite databases... does anyone know where to look?

Presumably, I will have to modify some settings in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf, but I am hesitant to change the default settings lest I create other security vulnerabilities.

• Undeliverable messages to newly migrated Exchange user

  We are in the process of migrating from our old domain to a new one, part of which involves migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. A bunch of users have been migrated already without problems. However, one of the users is having trouble receiving emails from others. When someone sends to him, they get an Undeliverable NDR that says "A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients." The message shows the user's distinguished name as /OU=OurDomain/CN=Recipients/CN=USER57137172. The user's account name should just be "USER", so I don't know where the extra numbers ("57137172") are coming from. Thanks in advance.

• How to make outlook.com/Office 365 use plain text and/or conventional quotes?

  I am forced to use the web version of Outlook at Office 365. I really dislike how it formats e-mail as well as how it handles quoting when replying. In the desktop version of Outlook you can at least force it too display the messages in plain text and then you can manually bottom post/post interleaved. Plain text also changes how it handles quotes: " " is used rather than some braindead RTF version of format=flowed (I like format=flowed when it is implemented without bugs) although the attribution line is completely useless but in the online version I can't find a way to achieve even this. Any ideas? I guess a Greasemonkey script could do this?

  I am VERY new to installing any type of server program and to running any opensource type software in general. I am running Windows Server 2008R2. I want to install Collective Access to run locally only on my Intranet at home. So my host is localhost I sucessfully installed PHP and MYSQL. I installed CA in this directory C:/inetpub/wwwroot/collectiveaccess. 1st. I do not want to send mail through collective access. Will it install without all the email information? Can I comment those requirements out in the global config and setup.php file? 2nd I am getting the error. • How to locate the line where a vim plugin error occurs: "Mapping not found"

  When I open gvim, it gives "Mapping not found" warning. I found out that the problem is related to the snipmates.vim plugin. But I can't locate where exactly in snipmates.vim file this error is produced. Is there a way to find out the exact cause? Note: gvim 7.2 runs on Windows XP. I found a solution advice in vim mail list. gvim -V20 2>&1 | tee logfile I run this command from command prompt but it doesn't output anything into the logfile. All the logs are written on the entry screen of gvim.

• Opinions on Dual-Salt authentication for low sensitivity user accounts?

  EDIT - Might be useful for someone in the future... Looking around the bcrypt class in php a little more, I think I understand what's going on, and why bcrypt is secure. In essence, I create a random blowfish salt, which contains the number of crypt rounds to perform during the encryption step, which is then hashed using the crypt() function in php. There is no need for me to store the salt I used in the database, because it's not directly needed to decrypt, and the only way to gain a password match to an email address (without knowing the salt values or number of rounds) would be to brute force plain text passwords against the hash stored in the database using the crypt() function to verify, which, if you've got a strong password, would just be more effort than it's worth for the user information i'm storing... I am currently working on a web project requiring user accounts. The application is CodeIgniter on the server side, so I am using Ion Auth as the authentication library. I have written an authentication system before, where I used 2 salts to secure the passwords. One was a server-wide salt which sat as an environment variable in the .htaccess file, and the other was a randomly generated salt which was created at user signup. I noticed that Ion only uses a single salt as part of its hashing mechanism (although does recommend that encryption_key is set in order to secure the database session.) The information that will be stored in my database is things like name, email address, location by country, some notes (which will be recommended that they do not contain sensitive information), and a link to a Facebook, Twitter or Flickr account. Based on this, i'm not convinced it's necessary for me to have an SSL connection on the secure pages of my site. My question is, is there a particular reason why only 1 salt is being used as part as the Ion Auth library? Is it implied that I write my own additional salting in front of the functionality it provides, or am I missing something? Furthermore, is it even worth using 2 salts, or once an attacker has the random salt and the hashed password, are all bets off anyway? (I assume not, but worth checking if i'm worrying about nothing...)

My past experience with Symantec has been bad, but I've heard good things about this product. However, I've also read that it's kind of a nightmare to setup and administer, and may not be worth it for the size of our network.

• Postfix - How to configure to send these emails?

  I want my mailserver to send mail from my local application "from" any user supplied email address "to" my own address, say "[email protected]". The MX records for "mysite.com" actually point to a different server, even though the outgoing mainserver is running with mydomain set as "mysite.com". Perhaps this is part of the problem? postfix is currently causing a SMTPRecipientsRefused error within the python application. Can anyone point me to what to change in the configuration? • Integrated Graphics and Audio as Media Center?

  I'm considering setting up a PC as a Media Center. Mainly to watch movies (ideally HD quality) and listening to music, but also to perform tasks like e-mail, web browsing, ... I quite like the looks and the price of this barebone: http://www.asus.de/Barebone_PC/S_Series_7L/S2P8H61E However it comes with integrated graphics and audio and only has one free PCI-Express slot. Which would mean in the worst case, where both integrated graphics and audio turn out to be insufficient, I could only upgrade one.   Hello, In brief, I am trying to call into a shared library from python, more specifically, from numpy. The shared library is implemented in C using sse2 instructions. Enabling optimisation, i.e. building the library with -O2 or –O1, I am facing strange segfaults when calling into the shared library via ctypes. Disabling optimisation (-O0), everything works out as expected, as is the case when linking the library to a c-program directly (optimised or not). Attached you find a snipped which exhibits the delineated behaviour on my system. With optimisation enabled, gdb reports a segfault in __builtin_ia32_loadupd (__P) at emmintrin.h:113.   Hi, I need to configure Exim to require TLS when sending emails to a specific domain. I know that I can use hosts_require_tls = host in the smtp transport. But it sounds like that requires that I set the host of the receiving mail server. I would instead like to specify the domain. Also, if I use this, will all other hosts/domains work without TLS? • IIS Reverse Proxy support for multiple protocols

  I have a server 2012 machine running IIS. It's in my DMZ and I would like to use it to do reverse proxy for several services. I can get it to route traffic on port 80 to 2 separate internal servers running web apps but there are some issues when I try to forward SSH (not port 80/443) and then when I try to forward OWA (Micrsoft exchange's 'webmail' services) to the internal mail server I run in to issues with guides (like this: http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/07/19/reverse-proxy-for-exchange-server-2013-using-iis-arr-part-1.aspx) when they say to have all traffic forwarded to the server farm created for OWA. My question for you all is this - given that there is no more Threat Management Gateway (only runs on server 2008) and ISA 2006 is also dead - is it possible to support multiple types of reverse proxies with different protocols (ftp, ssh, web, ssl-web) in IIS, or would it be better to install a different DMZ OS like a nginx server and use linux firewalls + nginx reverse proxy?   I want to know how to move or get rid of /dev/tty8 log output in Ubuntu 9.10. /dev/tty7 is my regular X session. When I am switching user to test account where I can try and test setups and configs I am at next available console i.e. /dev/tty9 because /dev/tty8 is taken by log output. Where can I configure this ? All I've found related to /dev/tty8 is commented lines in /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf. I changed it like that: daemon,mail.*;\ news.=crit;news.=err;news.=notice;\ *.=debug;*.=info;\ *.=notice;*.=warn /dev/tty12 And I've got nice log output on /dev/tty12 but where is configuration for log output on /dev/tty8. How can I change it?

• Outlook 2010: How do I mark one recurring event public?

  My office utilizes Outlook 2010 and Exchange for e-mail, and our calendars show free/busy information by default. Background I work from home once a week, so I have created an event that lists me as tentative for the entire workday, titled "Working from Home - Available Remotely". However, those attempting to schedule a meeting with me won't see this title, and therefore won't think they can schedule an event. As much as I'd like to get out meetings (!) it's important that folks be able to schedule with me. Question Is there a way to make the title/details public for this one recurring event so that when others attempt to schedule a meeting with me, Attempted Solutions I've tried creating a public calendar and sharing all the details of that calendar. However, all of my calendars are not included when someone wants to schedule with me, and so I'm shown as free unless someone specifically looks at my public calendar. I've Googled around, to no avail.
