  • How to limit NSTextField text length and keep it always upper case?

    - by carlosb
Need to have an NSTextField with a text limit of 4 characters maximum and show always in upper case but can't figure out a good way of achieving that. I've tried to do it through a binding with a validation method but the validation only gets called when the control loses first responder and that's no good. Temporarly I made it work by observing the notification NSControlTextDidChangeNotification on the text field and having it call the method: - (void)textDidChange:(NSNotification*)notification { NSTextField* textField = [notification object]; NSString* value = [textField stringValue]; if ([value length] > 4) { [textField setStringValue:[[value uppercaseString] substringWithRange:NSMakeRange(0, 4)]]; } else { [textField setStringValue:[value uppercaseString]]; } } But this surely isn't the best way of doing it. Any better suggestion?

  • Using .NET XmlSerializer with get properties and setter functions

    - by brone
I'm trying to use XmlSerializer from C# to save out a class that has some values that are read by properties (the code being just a simple retrieval of field value) but set by setter functions (since there is a delegate called if the value changes). What I'm currently doing is this sort of thing. The intended use is to use the InT property to read the value, and use SetInT to set it. Setting it has side-effects, so a method is more appropriate than a property here. XmlSerializationOnly_InT exists solely for the benefit of the XmlSerializer (hence the name), and shouldn't be used by normal code. class X { public double InT { get { return _inT; } } public void SetInT(double newInT) { if (newInT != _inT) { _inT = newInT; Changed();//includes delegate call; potentially expensive } } private double _inT; // not called by normal code, as the property set is not just a simple // field set or two. [XmlElement(ElementName = "InT")] public double XmlSerializationOnly_InT { get { return InT; } set { SetInT(value); } } } This works, it's easy enough to do, and the XML file looks like you'd expect. It's manual labour though, and a bit ugly, so I'm only somewhat satisfied. What I'd really like is to be able to tell the XML serialization to read the value using the property, and set it using the setter function. Then I wouldn't need XmlSerializationOnly_InT at all. I seem to be following standard practise by distinguishing between property sets and setter functions in this way, so I'm sure I'm not the only person to have encountered this (though google suggests I might be). What have others done in this situation? Is there some easy way to persuade the XmlSerializer to handle this sort of thing better? If not, is there perhaps some other easy way to do it?

  • sp_OACreate error on SQL Server 2005

    - by Johnny Lamho
hi there, I have a stored procedure and trying to run "sp_OACreate" but fall over with the following message: Msg 50000, Level 16, State 1, Procedure HTTP_REQUEST, Line 26 sp_OACreate on MSXML2.XMLHttp.4.0 failed That occurs because I am setting a variable to get the return value of sp_OACreate and raise the above error if the return value is not 0. Now, the return value I get is "-6" but i don't know why it is happening? Any help on this would be good to help make this work.

  • How can I determine if an object or reference has a valid string coercion?

    - by Ether
I've run into a situation (while logging various data changes) where I need to determine if a reference has a valid string coercion (e.g. can properly be printed into a log or stored in a database). There isn't anything in Scalar::Util to do this, so I have cobbled together something using other methods in that library: use strict; use warnings; use Scalar::Util qw(reftype refaddr); sub has_string_coercion { my $value = shift; my $as_string = "$value"; my $ref = ref $value; my $reftype = reftype $value; my $refaddr = sprintf "0x%x", refaddr $value; if ($ref eq $reftype) { # base-type references stringify as REF(0xADDR) return $as_string !~ /^${ref}\(${refaddr}\)$/; } else { # blessed objects stringify as REF=REFTYPE(0xADDR) return $as_string !~ /^${ref}=${reftype}\(${refaddr}\)$/; } } # Example: use DateTime; my $ref1 = DateTime->now; my $ref2 = \'foo'; print "DateTime has coercion: " . has_string_coercion($ref1) . "\n\n"; print "scalar ref has coercion: " . has_string_coercion($ref2) . "\n"; However, I suspect there might be a better way of determining this by inspecting the guts of the variable in some way. How can this be done better?

  • Linq to XML Document Traversal

    - by Perpetualcoder
    I have an xml document like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <demographics> <country id="1" value="USA"> <state id ="1" value="California"> <city>Long Beach</city> <city>Los Angeles</city> <city>San Diego</city> </state> <state id ="2" value="Arizona"> <city>Tucson</city> <city>Phoenix</city> <city>Tempe</city> </state> </country> <country id="2" value="Mexico"> <state id ="1" value="Baja California"> <city>Tijuana</city> <city>Rosarito</city> </state> </country> </demographics> How do I setup LINQ queries for doing things like: 1. Get All Countries 2. Get All States in a Country 3. Get All Cities inside a state of a paricular country ? I gave it a try and I am kind of confused when to use Elements["NodeName"] and Descendants etc. I know I am not the brightest XML guy around. Is the format of the XML file even correct for simple traversal?

  • svcutil, XmlSerializer and xsd:list

    - by Dmitry Ornatsky
    I'm using svcutil to generate classes from service metadata. This XML schema <xsd:complexType name="FindRequest"> ... <xsd:attribute name="Significance" type="Significance" use="optional" /> </xsd:complexType> <xsd:simpleType name="Significance"> <xsd:list> <xsd:simpleType> <xsd:restriction base="xsd:int"> <xsd:enumeration value="1" /> <xsd:enumeration value="2" /> <xsd:enumeration value="3" /> </xsd:restriction> </xsd:simpleType> </xsd:list> produces following code: public partial class FindRequest { ... private int significanceField; private bool significanceFieldSpecified; [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlAttributeAttribute()] public int Significance { get { return this.significanceField; } set { this.significanceField = value; } } [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlIgnoreAttribute()] public bool SignificanceSpecified { get { return this.significanceFieldSpecified; } set { this.significanceFieldSpecified = value; } } } My questions are: Is it possible to make XmlSerializer understand this type of list: <FindRequest Significance="1 2 3"/> For example by using some kind of a flags-style enum: public enum EmployeeStatus { [XmlEnum(Name = "1")] One = 1, [XmlEnum(Name = "2")] Two = 2, [XmlEnum(Name = "3")] Three = 4 } If the answer is yes, Is it possible to make svcutil/xsd.exe generate classes that are serialized that way without changing the schema?

  • LINQ to SQL does not update when data has changed in database

    - by aximili
I have this problem where after a field (say Field3 in table MyTable) is updated on the database, MyTable.Field3 (in C#) is still returning the old value. I suspect there is some caching...? How do I force it to: Read the value from the database? OR Update the value in the MyTable class? Or is there anything I miss? Thank you in advance.

I currently have the following objects persisting successfully: Person first name, etc. Exams title, date, etc. I'd like to now create a third table Exam results. • Add new types to Go

    - by nevalu
I'm trying add new types for that been managed/used as in Go core types. To create new types is anything very interesting to validate data before of send it to a non-SQL DBMS or to check data from a form. Go uses univeral constants to define them at global level: var DateType = universe.DefineType("date", universePos, &dateType{}) In this case they're defined to be called from a package like types: var Date = &dateType{} I get these errors: test.go:58: o.lit undefined (cannot refer to unexported field lit) test.go:62: *dateType is not Type missing Pos() token.Position The code is based on: http://github.com/tav/go/blob/master/src/pkg/exp/eval/value.go http://github.com/tav/go/blob/master/src/pkg/exp/eval/type.go package main import ( "exp/eval" "fmt" // "go/token" ) // http://github.com/tav/go/blob/master/src/pkg/exp/eval/value.go type DateValue interface { eval.Value Get(*eval.Thread) string Set(*eval.Thread, string) } /* Date */ type dateV string func (v *dateV) String() string { return fmt.Sprint(*v) } func (v *dateV) Assign(t *eval.Thread, o eval.Value) { *v = dateV(o.(DateValue).Get(t)) } func (v *dateV) Get(*eval.Thread) string { return string(*v) } func (v *dateV) Set(t *eval.Thread, x string) { *v = dateV(x) } // http://github.com/tav/go/blob/master/src/pkg/exp/eval/type.go type Type interface { eval.Type // isDate returns true if this is a date type. isDate() bool } /* Common type */ type commonType struct{} // added func (commonType) isDate() bool { return false } /* Date */ type dateType struct { commonType } // * It should not be an universal constant //var universePos = token.Position{"<universe>", 0, 0, 0} // added //var DateType = universe.DefineType("date", universePos, &dateType{}) var Date = &dateType{} func (t *dateType) compat(o Type, conv bool) bool { t2, ok := o.lit().(*dateType) return ok && t == t2 } func (t *dateType) lit() Type { return t } func (t *dateType) isDate() bool { return true } func (t *dateType) String() string { return "<date>" } func (t *dateType) Zero() eval.Value { res := dateV("") return &res } /* Named types */ /* type NamedType struct { eval.NamedType Def Type }*/ type NamedType struct { // added // token.Position Name string // Underlying type. • problem with jquery : minipulating val() property of element

    - by P4ul
    Hi, Please help! I have some form elements in a div on a page: <div id="box"> <div id="template"> <div> <label for="username">Username</label> <input type="text" class="username" name="username[]" value="" / > <label for="hostname">hostname</label> <input type="text" name="hostname[]" value=""> </div> </div> </div> using jquery I would like to take a copy of #template, manipulate the values of the inputs and insert it after #template so the result would look something like: <div id="box"> <div id="template"> <div> <label for="username">Username</label> <input type="text" class="username" name="username[]" value="" / > <label for="hostname">hostname</label> <input type="text" name="hostname[]" value=""> </div> </div> <div> <label for="username">Username</label> <input type="text" class="username" name="username[]" value="paul" / > <label for="hostname">hostname</label> <input type="text" name="hostname[]" value="paul"> </div> </div> I am probably going about this the wrong way but the following test bit of javascript code run in firebug on the page does not seem to change the values of the inputs. var cp = $('#template').clone(); cp.children().children().each( function(i,d){ if( d.localName == 'INPUT' ){ $(d).val('paul'); //.css('background-color', 'red'); } }); $("#box").append(cp.html()); although if I uncomment "//.css('background-color', 'red');" the inputs will turn red.

  • How to construct LambdaExpression with conversion

    - by nerijus
I need to sort in ajax response grid by column name. Column value is number stored as a string. Let's say some trivial class (in real-life situation there is no possibility to modify this class): class TestObject { public TestObject(string v) { this.Value = v; } public string Value { get; set; } } then simple test: [Test] public void LambdaConstructionTest() { var queryable = new List<TestObject> { new TestObject("5"), new TestObject("55"), new TestObject("90"), new TestObject("9"), new TestObject("09"), new TestObject("900"), }.AsQueryable(); var sortingColumn = "Value"; ParameterExpression parameter = Expression.Parameter(queryable.ElementType); MemberExpression property = Expression.Property(parameter, sortingColumn); //// tried this one: var c = Expression.Convert(property, typeof(double)); LambdaExpression lambda = Expression.Lambda(property, parameter); //// constructs: o=>o.Value var callExpression = Expression.Call(typeof (Double), "Parse", null, property); var methodCallExpression = Expression.Call( typeof(Queryable), "OrderBy", new[] { queryable.ElementType, property.Type }, queryable.Expression, Expression.Quote(lambda)); // works, but sorts by string values. //Expression.Quote(callExpression)); // getting: System.ArgumentException {"Quoted expression must be a lambda"} var querable = queryable.Provider.CreateQuery<TestObject>(methodCallExpression); // return querable; // <- this is the return of what I need. } Sorry for not being clear in my first post as @SLaks answer was correct but I do not know how to construct correct lambda expression in this case.

I have entered on purpose as StackOverflow don't allow me to post images! People, any help will be highly appreciated.

  • MySQL INSERT with table alias

    - by Max Kielland
Hello, I happen to have two columns having the same name as two SQL reserved words, Key and Value. When using the SELECT statement I can create a table alias and solve it that way. Now I'm trying to INSERT data and it seems like you can't create table alias in the INSERT statement. INSERT INTO attributeStrings ats (ats.ItemID,ats.Key,ats.Value) VALUES (3,'Categories','TechGUI') I get error at 'ats (ats.ItemID,ats.Key,ats.Value) VALUES (3,'Categories','TechGUI')' indicating that alias can't be created. Are there any ways to solve this without renaming the columns Key and Value?

  • KendoUI Mobile switch and datasource

I'm trying to have a list of items displayed using a listview, something like: <div data-role="view" data-model="my_model"> <ul data-role="listview" data-bind="source: ds" data-template="list-tmpl"></ul> </div> Where I have a view using a model called my_model and a listview where the source is bound to ds. My model is something like: var my_model = kendo.observable({ ds: new kendo.data.DataSource({ transport: { read: readData, update: updateData, create: updateData, remove: updateData }, pageSize: 10, schema: { model: { id: "id", fields: { id: { type: "number" }, name: { type: "string" }, active: { type: "boolean" } } } } }) }); Each item includes an id, a name (that is a string) and a boolean named active. The template used to render each element is: <script id="list-tmpl" type="text/kendo-tmpl"> <span>#= name # : #= active #</span> <input data-role="switch" data-bind="checked: active"/> </script> Where I display the name and (for debugging) the value of active. In addition, I render a switch bound to active. You should see something like: The problems observed are: If you click on a switch you will see that the value of active next to the name changes its value (as expected) but if then, you pick another switch, the value (neither next to name nor in the DataSource) is not updated (despite the value of the switch is correctly updated). The update handler in the DataSource is never invoked (not even for the first chosen switch and despite the DataSource for that first toggled switch is updated). You can check it in JSFiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/OnaBai/K7wEC/ How do I make that the DataSource gets updated and update handler invoked?

  • .NET: Interface Problem VB.net Getter Only Interface

    - by snmcdonald
Why does an interface override a class definition and violate class encapsulation? I have included two samples below, one in C# and one in VB.net? VB.net Module Module1 Sub Main() Dim testInterface As ITest = New TestMe Console.WriteLine(testInterface.Testable) ''// Prints False testInterface.Testable = True ''// Access to Private!!! Console.WriteLine(testInterface.Testable) ''// Prints True Dim testClass As TestMe = New TestMe Console.WriteLine(testClass.Testable) ''// Prints False ''//testClass.Testable = True ''// Compile Error Console.WriteLine(testClass.Testable) ''// Prints False End Sub End Module Public Class TestMe : Implements ITest Private m_testable As Boolean = False Public Property Testable As Boolean Implements ITest.Testable Get Return m_testable End Get Private Set(ByVal value As Boolean) m_testable = value End Set End Property End Class Interface ITest Property Testable As Boolean End Interface C# using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace InterfaceCSTest { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { ITest testInterface = new TestMe(); Console.WriteLine(testInterface.Testable); testInterface.Testable = true; Console.WriteLine(testInterface.Testable); TestMe testClass = new TestMe(); Console.WriteLine(testClass.Testable); //testClass.Testable = true; Console.WriteLine(testClass.Testable); } } class TestMe : ITest { private bool m_testable = false; public bool Testable { get { return m_testable; } private set { m_testable = value; } } } interface ITest { bool Testable { get; set; } } } More Specifically How do I implement a interface in VB.net that will allow for a private setter. For example in C# I can declare: class TestMe : ITest { private bool m_testable = false; public bool Testable { get { return m_testable; } private set //No Compile Error here! { m_testable = value; } } } interface ITest { bool Testable { get; } } However, if I declare an interface property as readonly in VB.net I cannot create a setter. If I create a VB.net interface as just a plain old property then interface declarations will violate my encapsulation. Public Class TestMe : Implements ITest Private m_testable As Boolean = False Public ReadOnly Property Testable As Boolean Implements ITest.Testable Get Return m_testable End Get Private Set(ByVal value As Boolean) ''//Compile Error m_testable = value End Set End Property End Class Interface ITest ReadOnly Property Testable As Boolean End Interface So my question is, how do I define a getter only Interface in VB.net with proper encapsulation? I figured the first example would have been the best method. However, it appears as if interface definitions overrule class definitions. So I tried to create a getter only (Readonly) property like in C# but it does not work for VB.net. Maybe this is just a limitation of the language?

Let's say a person cost $30 per hour at the start of the year then got a $10 raise o Feb 5 and another on Mar 1. 01/01/2010 $30.00 (per hour) 02/05/2010 $40.00 03/01/2010 $45.00 The person put in hours several days which span the rasies. 01/05/2010 10 hours (should be at $30/hr) 01/27/2010 5 hours (again at $30) 02/10/2010 10 hours (at $40/hr) 03/03/2010 5 hours (at $45/hr) I'm trying to write one SQL statement which will pull the hours, the cost per hour, and the hours*cost. The cost is the hourly rate last entered into the system so the cost date is less than the work date, ordered by cost date limit 1. SELECT person.id, person.name, work.hours, person_costs.value, work.hours * person_costs.value AS value FROM person INNER JOIN work ON (person.id = work.person_id) INNER JOIN person_costs ON (person.id = person_costs.person_id AND person_costs.date < work.date) WHERE person.id = 1234 ORDER BY work.date ASC The problem I'm having, the person_costs isn't ordered by date in descending order. It's pulling out "any" value (naturally sorted by record position) which matches the condition. How do I select the first person_cost value which is older than the work date? Thanks!

  • Ambiguous reference when getter/setter have different visibilities

    - by Warren Seine
The following code raises an ambiguous reference to value at compile time: import flash.display.Sprite; public class Main extends Sprite { private var _value : Number = 0.; public function get value() : Number { return _value; } private function set value(v : Number) : void { _value = v; } public function Main() : void { value = 42.; } } I suspect some kind of bug in the compiler, though I didn't actually read the ECMA standard. Before someone asks those questions: Private setters do make sense. The ambiguity also exists with custom namespaces (which is the problem I'm facing).
