  • Calling overridden method from within overriding method in OO PHP

    - by paddymcc
    Working in a symfony model, I want to override a function and call the overridden function from within the overriding one, along the lines of class MyClass extends BaseMyClass { function setMyProperty($p) { parent::setMyProperty($p); //do some other stuff } } This is resulting in a segmentation fault. I don't want to alter the parent class - it's been generated by symfony, and may feasibly be overwritten in the future if the model is rebuilt. This seems like something that should be straightforward, but I'm struggling to find the solution. Thanks for any advice

  • Handling apostrophes, php and pgsql

    - by running4surival
    For my forms, I'm using pg_escape_string on every field before I insert them into the database. So I get something like firstname='O''reilly'. But when I try to print that out, I get O''reily, 2 apostrophes. Shouldn't it only 1 apostrophe, O'reilly? This isnt a debugging problem, im just wondering if you have firstname='O''reilly', how do you print that so it is just O'reilly instead of O''reilly?

  • How would I combine these two codes, PHP and HTML?

    - by user1887109
    This is what I have currently: <html> <body oncontextmenu="return false;" bgcolor="5385ab"> <p align=center><a href="test.php"><img src="image.png"/></a></p> </body> </html> I need the <body> part and to combine this PHP geo-redirect code with "test.php" also including the "image.png" Here is the PHP code: <?php require_once("geoip.inc"); $gi = geoip_open("/var/lib/GeoIP/GeoIP.dat",GEOIP_STANDARD); $country_code = geoip_country_code_by_addr($gi, $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']); geoip_close($gi); if($country_code == 'FR') { header('Location: http://www.test.php'); } else { header('Location: http://www.yahoo.com/'); } ?> I'm not familiar with PHP so I have no idea how to even go about testing these two together. Hope you can help! Thank you.

  • how to handle exceptions/errors in php?

    - by fayer
    when using 3rd part libraries they tend to throw exceptions to the browser and hence kill the script. eg. if im using doctrine and insert a duplicate record to the database it will throw an exception. i wonder, what is best practice for handling these exceptions. should i always do a try...catch? but doesn't that mean that i will have try...catch all over the script and for every single function/class i use? Or is it just for debugging? i don't quite get the picture. Cause if a record already exists in a database, i want to tell the user "Record already exists". And if i code a library or a function, should i always use "throw new Expcetion($message, $code)" when i want to create an error? Please shed a light on how one should create/handle exceptions/errors. Thanks

  • PHP: Handling Multiple Submit Buttons

    - by sebb
    Would like to get a consensus as to what the best practice is in this scenario: Muliple submit buttons, is it better to handle this by having separate FORMS for each one of the submits, OR is it okay to have one form and check which button was pressed? thank you for your input :D

  • PHP OOP: Avoid Singleton/Static Methods in Domain Model Pattern

    - by sunwukung
    I understand the importance of Dependency Injection and its role in Unit testing, which is why the following issue is giving me pause: One area where I struggle not to use the Singleton is the Identity Map/Unit of Work pattern (Which keeps tabs on Domain Object state). //Not actual code, but it should demonstrate the point class Monitor{//singleton construction omitted for brevity static $members = array();//keeps record of all objects static $dirty = array();//keeps record of all modified objects static $clean = array();//keeps record of all clean objects } class Mapper{//queries database, maps values to object fields public function find($id){ if(isset(Monitor::members[$id]){ return Monitor::members[$id]; } $values = $this->selectStmt($id); //field mapping process omitted for brevity $Object = new Object($values); Monitor::new[$id]=$Object return $Object; } $User = $UserMapper->find(1);//domain object is registered in Id Map $User->changePropertyX();//object is marked "dirty" in UoW // at this point, I can save by passing the Domain Object back to the Mapper $UserMapper->save($User);//object is marked clean in UoW //but a nicer API would be something like this $User->save(); //but if I want to do this - it has to make a call to the mapper/db somehow $User->getBlogPosts(); //or else have to generate specific collection/object graphing methods in the mapper $UserPosts = $UserMapper->getBlogPosts(); $User->setPosts($UserPosts); Any advice on how you might handle this situation? I would be loathe to pass/generate instances of the mapper/database access into the Domain Object itself to satisfy DI - At the same time, avoiding that results in lots of calls within the Domain Object to external static methods. Although I guess if I want "save" to be part of its behaviour then a facility to do so is required in its construction. Perhaps it's a problem with responsibility, the Domain Object shouldn't be burdened with saving. It's just quite a neat feature from the Active Record pattern - it would be nice to implement it in some way.

  • What's the best way/practice to get the extension of a uploaded file in PHP

    - by Roland
    I have a form that allow users to upload files, I however need to get the file extension, which I am able to get, but not sure if I'm using the most effective solution I can get it using the following ways $fileInfo = pathinfo($_FILES['File']['name']); echo $fileInfo['extension']; $ext = end(explode('.',$_FILES['File']['name'])); echo $ext; Which method is the best to use or are there even better solutions that would get the extension?

  • Confused by this PHP Exception try..catch nesting

    - by Domenic
    Hello. I'm confused by the following code: class MyException extends Exception {} class AnotherException extends MyException {} class Foo { public function something() { print "throwing AnotherException\n"; throw new AnotherException(); } public function somethingElse() { print "throwing MyException\n"; throw new MyException(); } } $a = new Foo(); try { try { $a->something(); } catch(AnotherException $e) { print "caught AnotherException\n"; $a->somethingElse(); } catch(MyException $e) { print "caught MyException\n"; } } catch(Exception $e) { print "caught Exception\n"; } I would expect this to output: throwing AnotherException caught AnotherException throwing MyException caught MyException But instead it outputs: throwing AnotherException caught AnotherException throwing MyException caught Exception Could anyone explain why it "skips over" catch(MyException $e) ? Thanks.

  • PHP for loop isn't looping after APC installation

    - by BoRo
    So I installed APC and i all of the sudden my for loops only run once and increment the value then stops. I dont get what's going on, it worked fine before APC was installed. Any Suggestions? EDIT: I managed to narrow it down to the increment. for some reason if I have an array let's say string[], and have the for loop list through the values like with string[$i] It only does it for the first one, I can manually echo/print out the array elements to check if the array is the problem but all elements have the appropriate data/values. EDIT #2: Well the code looks something like (it scrapes a page for images and gets some data from it): $str = explode('<div class="images" align="center">',$str); for($i=1;$i<11;$i++){ $url3 = $str[$i]; $url3 = extstr3($url3,'class="filename">','</div>'); $urlname = extstr3($url3,'<a href="','</a>'); $name = extstr3($urlname,'target="_blank">','.jpg'); $url3 = extstr3($url3,'<a href="','" target="_blank">'); $name = str_replace ('_', ' ', $name); . . .

    - by JackTurky
    i have an array like: Array ( [prom] => Array ( [cab] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [code] => 01 [price1] => 1000 [price2] => 2000 [available] => 2 [max] => 2 [gca] => 2 ) [1] => Array ( [code] => 04 [price1] => 870 [price2] => 2500 [available] => 3 [max] => 4 [gca] => 10 ) [2] => Array ( [code] => 01 [price1] => 1000 [price2] => 2000 [available] => 2 [max] => 2 [gca] => 2 ) [3] => Array ( [code] => 05 [price1] => 346 [price2] => 1022 [available] => 10 [max] => 2 [gca] => 20 ) ) [cab1] => Array........ ) [prom1] = Array.... ) What i have to do is to remove duplicates inside every [cab*] array.. so to have something like: Array ( [prom] => Array ( [cab] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [code] => 01 [price1] => 1000 [price2] => 2000 [available] => 2 [max] => 2 [gca] => 2 ) [1] => Array ( [code] => 04 [price1] => 870 [price2] => 2500 [available] => 3 [max] => 4 [gca] => 10 ) [2] => Array ( [code] => 05 [price1] => 346 [price2] => 1022 [available] => 10 [max] => 2 [gca] => 20 ) ) [cab1] => Array........ ) [prom1] = Array.... ) In know that there is array_unique combined with array_map to remove duplicates.. but i know that it works only on 2D array.. what can i do? can someone help me pls? thanks!!!

  • What exactly does this PHP code do?

    - by Rob
    Alright, my friend gave me this code for requesting headers and comparing them to what the header should be. It works perfectly, but I'm not sure why. Here is the code: $headers = apache_request_headers(); $customheader = "Header: 7ddb6ffab28bb675215a7d6e31cfc759"; foreach ($headers as $header => $value) { // 1 $custom .= "$header: $value"; // 2 } $mystring = $custom; // 3 $findme = $customheader; // 4 $pos = strpos($mystring, $findme); if ($pos !== false) { // Do something } else{ exit(); } //If it doesn't match, exit. I commented with some numbers relating to the following questions: 1: What exactly is happening here? Is it setting the $headers as $header AND $value? 2: Again, don't have any idea what is going on here. 3: Why set the variable to a different variable? This is the only area where the variable is getting used, so is there a reason to set it to something else? 4: Same question as 3. I'm sorry if this is a terrible question, but its been bothering me, and I really want to know WHY it works. Well, I understand why it works, I guess I just want to know more specifically. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

  • PHP Convert variable names to lowercase?

    - by VeeBee
    I have an api listener script which takes in get parameters. But I seem to be having issues when users tend to pass mixed case variable names on the parameters. For example: http://mylistenerurl.com?paramName1=Hello&paramname2=World I need my listener to be flixible in such a way that the variable names will be interpreted case-insensitively or rather still all in lower case like after I process the query string on some function, they are all returned as lower-cased variables: extract(someFunction($_GET)); process($paramname1, $paramname2); Can anybody shed some light on this? *much appreciated. thanks!
