• Need to reformat SQL Cluster Disk. How do I recover my SQL installation?

  We need to reformat the SQL cluster disk in our SQL cluster. The drive contains the shared installation files for SQL as well as databases. My concern is how SQL/The Cluster will react to after we wipe the disk resource. Questions: Is there a defined procedure for this? How should we backup and restore the disk? So, I thought of installing Microsoft Office 2010, after installation of Microsoft office 2010 only I noticed that I haven't uninstalled the Office 2007. While attempting to uninstall Microsoft Office 2007 it shows a dialog box saying, The Language of this installation package is not supported by your system. What might be the problem and how could I uninstall Office 2007? Is there any possibility that I could go on continue my work without uninstalling Office 2007?

• Error page for OWA users on a different server?

  We are getting ready to do a network-wide upgrade to Exchange 2010. The url for the old 2007 mailboxes is at https://mail.example.com and users who have had their mail box moved will have to go to https://Email.example.com If a user that has a 2010 mailbox attempts to login at the 2007 OWA location, they get a standard 403 Forbidden page. We would like to show them a page of our own making, that includes a link to the 2010 OWA login page. I assumed we could do this with an IIS Custom Error page, but setting the 403.4 error page in IIS on the Default web site doesn't seem to be working. Does anyone know how we could get around this? BTW, our OWA for the 2007 boxes in on Windows Server 2003, and IIS 6

  Hi all, I'm restoring an Exchange server from a backup: [1] the backup was created on 19/12/2010 [2] the server kept running until 20/12/2010 [3] we're restoring the server today 21/12/2010 with the backup from [1] My understanding is that when the server comes back: [4] whatever is in users' inbox since [1] will be deleted. [5] whatever is in users' sent box since [2] should be re-sent. [6] As a safety measure we've moved all emails sent/received between [1] and [3] to .PST files. Questions: -are [4] & [5] statements correct? -is there any way to move back emails from the PST file [6] to the current inbox/sent folders so that Exchange takes these emails into account (instead of deleting them)? -what happens to the Calendar items that were added after [1], is there any way to back those up as well if needed? • IIS 6.0 :: SSL certificate install :: issue

  Certificate request process works fine. Once the certificate is received from VeriSign, the installation process also works fine (no errors.) However, once installed, the new certificate is not "assigned." Meaning, when I view the IIS instance security properties, it still shows the previous certificate start & end dates. Thoughts? Windows 2003, Web Edition. I have 3 other Win2003WE machines, configured nearly the same, and do not have this problem.

• Get SMTP to work

  We upgraded to exchange 2010 and this broke an old java based script that connected and sent out e-mail messages. Many hours later we still can't get exchange to work like exchange 2003 did. That hope was abandoned and we decided to create a linux postfix server to forward the e-mail from the old system to exchange, eliminating exchange on the java side. This still doesn't work with similar errors. I need help figuring out what is different between exchange 2003 with SSL and authentication and the new servers, both linux and exchange 2010. My guess is both have TLS and for some reason the java code won't revert back to the older version of SSL, instead it just fails. Can someone help me either setup exchange 2010 to work like 2003 used to, OR to setup postfix to mandate it use SSL 2.0 instead of TLS? unfortunately no one knows anything about the Java code and they can't decompile it apparently. Any help is appreciated.

• Visual Studio compiles WPF application twice during build

  I have a WPF app in VS2008 that compiles twice during the build. The two CSC command lines are similar but with some differences. The first CSC command line does not have an /resource options, the second has two /resource options on the command line. • Interactive Data Language, IDL: Does anybody care?

  Anyone use a language called Interactive Data Language, IDL? It is popular with scientists. I think it is a poor language because it is proprietary (every terminal running it has to have an expensive license purchased) and it has minimal support (try searching for IDL, the language, right now on stack) . I am trying to convince my colleagues to stop using it and learn C/C++/Python/Fortran/Java/Ruby. Does anybody know about or even care about IDL enough to have opinions on it? What do you think of it? Should I tell my colleagues to stop wasting their time on it now? How can I convince them? Edit: People are getting the impression that I don't know or use IDL. Also, I said IDL has minimal support which is true in one sense, so I must clarify that the scientific libraries are indeed large. I use IDL all the time, but this is exactly the problem: I am only using IDL because colleagues use it. There is a file format IDL uses, the .sav, which can only be opened in IDL. So I must use IDL to work with this data and transfer the data back to colleagues, but I know I would be more efficient in another language. This is like someone sending you a microsoft word file in an email attachment and if you don't understand how wrong that is then you probably write too many words not enough code and you bought microsoft word. • SQL server deadlock between INSERT and SELECT statement

  Hi! I've got a problem with multiple deadlocks on SQL server 2005. This one is between an INSERT and a SELECT statement. There are two tables. Table 1 and Table2. Table2 has Table1's PK (table1_id) as foreign key. Index on table1_id is clustered. The INSERT inserts a single row into table2 at a time. The SELCET joins the 2 tables. (it's a long query which might take up to 12 secs to run) According to my understanding (and experiments) the INSERT should acquire an IS lock on table1 to check referential integrity (which should not cause a deadlock). • Trying to use Digest Authentication for Folder Protection

  StackOverflow users suggested I try my question here. I'm using Server 2008 EE and IIS 7. I've got a site that I've migrated over from XP Pro using IIS 5. On the old system, I was using IIS Password to use simple .htaccess files to control a couple of folders that I didn't want to be publicly viewable. Now that I'm running a full-blown DC with a more powerful version of IIS, I decided it'd be a good idea to start using something slightly more sophisticated. After doing my research and trying to keep things as cheap as possible with a touch of extra security, I decided that Digest Authentication would be the best way to go. My issue is this: With Anon access disabled and Digest enabled, I am never prompted for credentials. when on the server, viewing domain[dot]com/example will simply show my 401.htm page without prompting me for credentials. when on a different network/computer, viewing domain[dot]com/example again shows my 401.htm without prompting for credentials. At the site level I only have Anon enabled. Every subfolder, unless I want it protected, has just Anon enabled. Only the folders I want protected have Anon disabled and Digest enabled. I have tried editing the bindings to see if that would spark any kind of change... www.domain.com, domain.com, and localhost have all been tried. There was never a change in behavior at any permutation (aside from the page not being found when I un-bound localhost to the site). I might have screwed up when I deleted the default site from IIS. I didn't think I'd actually need it for anything, but some of what I have read online is telling me otherwise now. As for Digest settings, I have it pointed to local.domain.com, which is the name assigned to my AD Domain. I'm guessing that's right, but honestly have no clue about what a realm actually is. Would it matter that I have an A record for local.domain.com pointing to my IP address? I had problems initially with an absolute link for 401.htm pages, but have since resolved that. Instead of D:\HTTP\401.htm I've used /401.htm and all is well. I used to get error 500's because it couldn't find the custom 401.htm file, but now it loads just fine. As for some data, I was getting entries like this from access logs: 2009-07-10 17:34:12 10.0.0.10 GET /example/ - 80 - [workip] Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+7.0;+Windows+NT+5.1;+.NET+CLR+1.1.4322;+.NET+CLR+2.0.50727;+InfoPath.2) 401 2 5 132 But after correcting my 401.htm links now get logs like this: 2009-07-10 18:56:25 10.0.0.10 GET /example - 80 - [workip] Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+5.1;+en-US;+rv:1.9.0.11)+Gecko/2009060215+Firefox/3.0.11 200 0 0 146 I don't know if that means anything or not. I still don't get any credential challenges, regardless of where I try to sign in from ( my workstation, my server, my cellphone even ). The only thing that's seemed to work is viewing localhost and I donno what could be preventing authentication from finding it's way out of the server. Thanks for any help! Jon
