• Boost.Python tutorial in Ubuntu 10.04

  I downloaded the latest version of Boost and I'm trying to get the Boost.python tutorial up and running on Ubuntu 10.04: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_43_0/libs/python/doc/tutorial/doc/html/python/hello.html I navigated to the correct directory, ran "bjam" and it compiled using default settings. I did not yet create a bjam config file. The compilation appears to have worked, but now I have no idea how to include the files in my python script. When I try to run the python hello world script, it gives me this error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "./hello.py", line 6, in <module> import hello_ext ImportError: libboost_python.so.1.43.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Anyone know what is going on?

• Which OpenGL version is installed?

  I recently tried to lay my hands on OpenGL. Trying to grasp the API, I learned (or was given the advice) that I shouldn't use glBegin and glEnd anymore, since those are deprecated, but should start with OpenGL 3.1, instead. As I didn't know that the version used makes such a difference, I didn't pay much attention as to which version I actually have installed on my computer. And, as far as I can see, there is no glVersion or similar call that I could use to determine that version. I am using MinGW and I found the following lines in c:\MinGW\include\GL\gl.h: /* * Mesa 3-D graphics library * Version: 4.0 [more lines] */ [more lines] #define GL_VERSION_1_1 1 #if !defined(__WIN32__) #define GL_VERSION_1_2 1 #define GL_VERSION_1_3 1 #define GL_ARB_imaging 1 #endif [more lines] #define GL_VERSION 0x1F02 which, to me, indicates, that the installed version is as low as 1.3. Is this the case or how could I verify my suspicion? Also, where would I find a later version if I have 1.3 only?

• Undefined reference to cmph functions even after installing cpmh library

  I am using gcc 4.4.3 on ubuntu. I installed cmph library tools 0.9-1 using command sudo apt-get install libcmph-tools Now, when I tried to compile example program vector_adapter_ex1.c , gcc is able to detect cmph.h library in its include file but is showing multiple errors like vector_adapter_ex1.c:(.text+0x93): undefined reference to cmph_io_vector_adapter' vector_adapter_ex1.c:(.text+0xa3): undefined reference tocmph_config_new' vector_adapter_ex1.c:(.text+0xbb): undefined reference to cmph_config_set_algo' vector_adapter_ex1.c:(.text+0xcf): undefined reference tocmph_config_set_mphf_fd' even though, these are all defined in the source code of the cmph library. Could anyone tell the error that might have occurred or suggest an alternate method to go about building minimal perfect hash functions.

  I've downloaded the new version of NAnt 0.91 Alpha 1 release and it doesn't seem to recognize the patternset as in: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <project name="Testing project" default="testMe"> <patternset id="build.files"> <include name="*.dll" /> </patternset> <target name="testMe"> <echo message="hi" /> </target> </project> The error I get when running nant /f:mytest.build is: Invalid element <patternset>. Unknown task or datatype. Am I missing something?

  Hello: Some months ago, a colleague of mine installed ODAC 11.106.21 in a server using XCOPY and then he developed many applications that use this client without problems (in test and production windows servers). Past week, I developed an application under ODAC 11.1.07.20. When I asked him to install these new ODAC version using XCOPY in a different folder and then include my application in the test server, he answered me that I should use ODAC 11.106.21 because he could have troubles with his applications. So I would like to know: 1) If it is really possible to have two different ODAC versions in one server. 2) If the answer is positive, how can I firmly ensure to my colleague that he will not have troubles with his applications? 3) If the answer is positive, is this necessary to do some kind of configuration in the server?   I need to dynamically generate a code like this in the resulting html: <p>>> gallery one</p> <p><a href="../gallery2">gallery two</a></p> <p><a href="../about">about the author</a></p> <p><a href="../news">our news</a></p> I do have menu_code string variable created in views.py (it is generated depending on an item number of the current page passed — 1 in the case above), which contains that long string with the code shown above. It is (well, supposed to) passed by locals() into the html template (all other variables are passed that way successfully): return render_to_response('gallery_page.html', locals()) I have this: {% include menu_code %} inside the template html. But instead of being interpreted as code it is just shown as text in the browser. What am I doing wrong? How to make it work as a dynamically generated menu?

  Background: The .TLB file contains interfaces written in language 'X'. I don't have .h, .idl, .tlh, or any other header files - just the .TLB file. Language 'X' does not export compatible .h, .idl, etc. I use the VS wizard to add an ATL simple object to my ATL project. I want to add a method to the interface of my simple ATL object that uses one of the .TLB defined types for a parameter. // Something like the following in the .idl file: interface ISomeInterface : IUnknown { HRESULT SomeMethod([in] ITypeFromTLB* aVal); // ITypeFromTLB declared in .TLB file. }; How can I do this? I'm hoping for a wizard, or a line in the .idl interface declaration that would bring in the .tlb information. midl's include (no .tlb), import (no tlb), and importlib (library only) don't seem to provide a solution (I need proxy/stub to be working, so I cannot put this inside the library declaration with the importlib command).   I'm using multiple datepicker on same grid and I face the problem to get a proper result. I used 3 datepicker in 1 grid. Only the first datepicker (Order Date)is able to output proper result while the other 2 datepicker (Start Date & End Date) are not able to generate proper result. • Class member functions instantiated by traits

  I am reluctant to say I can't figure this out, but I can't figure this out. I've googled and searched Stack Overflow, and come up empty. The abstract, and possibly overly vague form of the question is, how can I use the traits-pattern to instantiate non-virtual member functions? The question came up while modernizing a set of multivariate function optimizers that I wrote more than 10 years ago. The optimizers all operate by selecting a straight-line path through the parameter space away from the current best point (the "update"), then finding a better point on that line (the "line search"), then testing for the "done" condition, and if not done, iterating. There are different methods for doing the update, the line-search, and conceivably for the done test, and other things. Mix and match. Different update formulae require different state-variable data. For example, the LMQN update requires a vector, and the BFGS update requires a matrix. If evaluating gradients is cheap, the line-search should do so. If not, it should use function evaluations only. Some methods require more accurate line-searches than others. Those are just some examples. The original version instantiates several of the combinations by means of virtual functions. Some traits are selected by setting mode bits that are tested at runtime. Yuck. It would be trivial to define the traits with #define's and the member functions with #ifdef's and macros. But that's so twenty years ago. It bugs me that I cannot figure out a whiz-bang modern way. If there were only one trait that varied, I could use the curiously recurring template pattern. But I see no way to extend that to arbitrary combinations of traits. I tried doing it using boost::enable_if, etc.. The specialized state information was easy. I managed to get the functions done, but only by resorting to non-friend external functions that have the this-pointer as a parameter. I never even figured out how to make the functions friends, much less member functions. The compiler (VC++ 2008) always complained that things didn't match. I would yell, "SFINAE, you moron!" but the moron is probably me. Perhaps tag-dispatch is the key. I haven't gotten very deeply into that. Surely it's possible, right? If so, what is best practice? UPDATE: Here's another try at explaining it. I want the user to be able to fill out an order (manifest) for a custom optimizer, something like ordering off of a Chinese menu - one from column A, one from column B, etc.. Waiter, from column A (updaters), I'll have the BFGS update with Cholesky-decompositon sauce. From column B (line-searchers), I'll have the cubic interpolation line-search with an eta of 0.4 and a rho of 1e-4, please. Etc... UPDATE: Okay, okay. Here's the playing-around that I've done. I offer it reluctantly, because I suspect it's a completely wrong-headed approach.   I was just reading this excellent post, and got some better understanding of what exactly object oriented programming is, how Java implements it in one extreme manner, and how functional programming languages are a contrast. What I was thinking is this: if functional programming languages cannot save any state, how do they do some simple stuff like reading input from a user (I mean how do they "store" it), or storing any data for that matter?   I'm interested in a way (algorithm) of distributing a predefined number of points over a 4 sided surface like a square. The main issue is that each point has got to have a minimum and maximum proximity to each other (random between two predefined values). Basically the distance of any two points should not be closer than let's say 2, and a further than 3. My code will be implemented in ruby (the points are locations, the surface is a map), but any ideas or snippets are definitely welcomed as all my ideas include a fair amount of brute force.

  Joel mentions in several of his blog posts that it is very important for a developer/software entrepreneur to have solid understanding of Economics. Yet the Fog Creek MBA book reading list does not include any Economics books. Is there any good material that people can recommend? Obviously, I am not as concerned about mathematical treatise as foundations and basic principles. For example, I was able to find a very good high-level read on Macroeconomics: Concise Guide to Macroeconomics but I am yet to find anything similar on Microeconomics. Any suggestions and reading pointers would be highly appreciated.

• Zend_Form_Element_Radio option label should not be escaped

  I want to include some HTML in the labels of the radio buttons so that the user can click a link within that label. For example <label for="value-12"> <input name="value" id="value-12" value="12" checked="checked" type="radio"> Doo Bee Dooo Bee Doooo <a href="somelink">preview this song</a> </label> The html keeps getting escaped. I want to stop that. I read about: array('escape' => false) Somewhere, but I don't know how to use that with $value->setMultiOptions($songs); or $value->addMultiOptions($songs) Any ideas? • Why is my masm32 program crashing whenever I try using interrupts?

  Here's the code: .386 ;target for maximum compatibility .model small,stdcall ;model .code main: int 20h END main Result: http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/3738/resultom.png "test.exe has stopped working" - always right when it reaches the interrupt. This is the interrupt I'm trying to use. It should simply exit the program. Others I've tried include character input/output, etc.. Nothing works. I'm on windows 7, using masm32 with the WinAsm IDE. There are so many cool things it seems I should be able to do with interrupts... however, it crashes whenever I try to use an interrupt - always the same way. Any suggestions?
