  • What video format(s) should be used to serve Macs, PCs, and Mobile Devices?

    - by Jeffrey Blake
In 2007, I started a site based on streaming and downloading poker strategy videos. At that point in time, the best solution I came up with for supporting users of Macs and PCs was to provide the videos in both WMV and FLV formats. Later we added an M4V version to support iPhones/iPods. Obviously, things have changed a bit since that time. I would like to revisit our format decision to see if there is anything better that we could offer, preferrably with wider support among all devices (so that we can reduce the number of formats offered, if possible). Is FLV + WMV + M4V the best solution? Is there something else we should consider? What about Android devices?

  • Convert excel document (xls) to a plist

    - by John
I have a pretty straightforward excel document in which I need to use the data in an iPhone app. The xls document has 6 columns, 200 plus rows. I would like to create a plist from the xls document and other than manual copy/paste, is there a means to convert one to the other? Anyone written a macro on the excel side or a utility (perl, etc) to make such a conversion? Thanks John iPhoneDevTips

  • How does one actually use the UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities key?

    - by Andy
I followed exactly what I thought I understood the steps to be in the iPhone Programming Guide for specifying that my app requires telephony (I opened MyApp-info.plist, added a new key called UIRequiredDeviceCapabilties, set the key type to Dictionary, added a new row with key set to "telephony", type Boolean, value YES), and sent my app off to Apple. Lo and behold, eleven days later, I get a message from Apple that it's been rejected for not using the UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities key. WTF? How are you actually supposed to implement this?

  • Creating an Objective-C++ Static Library in Xcode

    - by helixed
So I've developed an engine for the iPhone with which I'd like to build a couple different games. Rather than copy and paste the files for the engine inside of each game's project directory, I'd a way to link to the engine from each game, so if I need to make a change to it I only have to do so once. After reeding around a little bit, it seems like static libraries are the best way to do this on the iPhone. I created a new project called Skeleton and copied all of my engine files over to it. I used this guide to create a static library, and I imported the library into a project called Chooser. However, when I tried to compile the project, Xcode started complaining about some C++ data structures I included in a file called ControlScene.mm. Here's my build errors: "operator delete(void*)", referenced from: -[ControlScene dealloc] in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) -[ControlScene init] in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) __gnu_cxx::new_allocator<operation_t>::deallocate(operation_t*, unsigned long)in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) __gnu_cxx::new_allocator<operation_t*>::deallocate(operation_t**, unsigned long)in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) "operator new(unsigned long)", referenced from: -[ControlScene init] in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) __gnu_cxx::new_allocator<operation_t*>::allocate(unsigned long, void const*)in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) __gnu_cxx::new_allocator<operation_t>::allocate(unsigned long, void const*)in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) "std::__throw_bad_alloc()", referenced from: __gnu_cxx::new_allocator<operation_t*>::allocate(unsigned long, void const*)in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) __gnu_cxx::new_allocator<operation_t>::allocate(unsigned long, void const*)in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) "___cxa_rethrow", referenced from: std::_Deque_base<operation_t, std::allocator<operation_t> >::_M_create_nodes(operation_t**, operation_t**)in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) std::_Deque_base<operation_t, std::allocator<operation_t> >::_M_initialize_map(unsigned long)in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) "___cxa_end_catch", referenced from: std::_Deque_base<operation_t, std::allocator<operation_t> >::_M_create_nodes(operation_t**, operation_t**)in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) std::_Deque_base<operation_t, std::allocator<operation_t> >::_M_initialize_map(unsigned long)in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) "___gxx_personality_v0", referenced from: ___gxx_personality_v0$non_lazy_ptr in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) ___gxx_personality_v0$non_lazy_ptr in libSkeleton.a(MenuLayer.o) "___cxa_begin_catch", referenced from: std::_Deque_base<operation_t, std::allocator<operation_t> >::_M_create_nodes(operation_t**, operation_t**)in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) std::_Deque_base<operation_t, std::allocator<operation_t> >::_M_initialize_map(unsigned long)in libSkeleton.a(ControlScene.o) ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status If anybody could offer some insight as to why these problems are occuring, I'd appreciate it. • Three20 TTLauncherView Tutorial?

    - by Graeme
Hi, I'm attempting to use TTLauncherView from the Facebook Three20 project in my app, but I'm not having much luck (I'm a bit of a newbie at this). Does anyone have any good tutorials at using it that I could read? FYI basically I need to pull images that a user chooses from the iPhone camera album, and display them as icons that when pressed lead to another view. Thanks.

  • Same Binary, New Provisioning Profile?

    - by AO
Do I really have to rebuild my iPhone application every time I update my ad hoc provisioning profile? The only thing changed is the list of devices allowed to install/run the application. The question is with other words if it is possible to distribute the old application with the new provisioning profile?

  • how to add a url cache to ASIHttpRequest

    - by smokey_the_bear
I'm using ASIHttpRequests and an ASINetworkQueue in an iphone app to retrieve some 100k XML files and a lot of thumbnails from a web service. I'd like to cache the requests in the style of NSURLCache. ASI doesn't seem to support caching as is, and I looked at the code and it drops to C to create the requests, so inserting the NSURLCache layer seemed tricky. What's the best way to implement this?

  • Slow synch of files form iPad to webserver?

    - by MikeN
I'm building a recording iPad application that will take some moderately large recordings on the iPad (5-10 minutes of full audio roughly 5-10Megabytes in size.) How can I synch such large files to my web server for use? I want the synching to occur asynchronously in the background. Is there an existing library/utility to synch files in the Megabyte range from an iPhone/iPad to a server in small chunks?

  • Do Android/webOS devices support multi-touch Javascript events?

    - by Rufo Sanchez
On iPhone, iPod touch and (presumably) iPad, Apple has multi-touch event handling available via JavaScript in Mobile Safari. I know the Nexus One recently added multi-touch support via an update, and I believe webOS is also multi-touch enabled. Do Android 2.1 and/or webOS have access to multi-touch in the browser, or is this currently exclusive to Apple devices?
