• Flash receives mouse events under an HTML element when opacity set

  I have an HTML document with a Flash object and an absolutely positioned HTML element above it. If I set the HTML element's opacity CSS property to any value less than 1, the Flash object (that is actually covered) receives mouse events. This problem cannot be reproduced with pure HTML elements. Furthermore, Flash only receives hover events, so I cannot click below the layer. I put a demonstration of the problem online. I get this behavior in Firefox 3.6, Safari 4.0 and Chrome 5.0 in both Mac and Windows. Flash plugin version 10 is installed. Is it a bug or the the normal and expected behavior? If the latter, then how can I prevent Flash receiving events when it is covered with a translucent layer?

  I have a C# application that uses XML digital signatures to sign license files. I've used the standard Microsoft approach described here. I'm porting the application to the MAC and need to verify the signature. My general question is how best to do this? This is what I've done: I've used macport to install Aleksey's xmlsec1 library. Used the Chilkat library to convert my XML public key to a PEM file Chilkat.PublicKey pubKey = new Chilkat.PublicKey(); pubKey.LoadXml(publicKeyXml); pubKey.SaveOpenSslPemFile("publicKey.pem"); Compiled and ran the alekseys sample program. See (http://www.aleksey.com/xmlsec/api/xmlsec-verify-with-key.html) to verify an XML dsig. Result: my license files fail to validate. The call to xmlSecDSigCtxVerify fails with status=unknown.   i am using movable type 4.23 (publishing system) and have been testing my site on a PC and discovered that internet explorer (IE) browsers are unable to view my site due to a conflict in the javascript of the signin widget (initially i thought it was in the mt.js file). i receive this error: "Error 80004004"...as well as in the Javascript itself: "Element is not an object" (or object is not an element?)... function mtUpdateSignInWidget(u) { var el = document.getElementById('signin-widget-content'); if i put in "id" where 'sign-widget-content' goes, it will say its not an object. all other browsers work perfectly (firefox, safari and opera on my mac and firefox on pc). if anyone wants a link to the test page, i can provide that... someone please help! thanks.

  Hi all, I just installed gd2 using mac ports (sudo install gd2), which installed libraries in the following places: /opt/local/include/gd.h /opt/local/lib/libgd.dylib (link) /opt/local/lib/libgd.la /opt/local/lib/libgd.a So when I create my c++ app I add '#include "gd.h"', which throws: main.cpp:4:16: error: gd.h: No such file or directory If I set gd.h as an absolute path (as above)(not a solution, but was curious), I am thrown: g++ -L/opt/local/include -L/opt/local/lib main.o Heatmap_Map.o Heatmap_Point.o -o heatmap Undefined symbols: "_gdImagePng", referenced from: _main in main.o "_gdImageLine", referenced from: _main in main.o "_gdImageColorAllocate", referenced from: _main in main.o _main in main.o "_gdImageDestroy", referenced from: _main in main.o "_gdImageCreate", referenced from: _main in main.o "_gdImageJpeg", referenced from: _main in main.o ld: symbol(s) not found So, I understand this means that ld can not find the libraries it needs (hence trying to give it hints with the "-L" values). So after giving g++ the -L hints and the absolute path in #include, I can get it to work, but I don't think I have to do this, how can I make g++/ld search int eh right places for the libraries?   I just started working with C & Xcode and I've run into a little difficulty. All I want to do is read a file from the command line and see the output in the terminal. I think my problem lies with the path to the file that I want to read in. I'm using a Mac and the file is on my desktop, so the path should be Users/myName/Desktop/words.txt. Is this correct? • Quickest and easiest way to implement speech to text conversion for a small speech subset.

  Hi, I want to implement a system that receives speech through a microphone on my Mac OS x. I know arbitrary speech recognition is close to impossible without training the system so I'm willing to restrict it to 10 simple sentences. It must recognize with a high degree of accuracy which of these 10 sentences are being spoken, generate the text and add an entry to a remote MySQL database. With these being the architecture of the system I want to implement, could anyone give me an overview of what would be the best way to go about implementing this system? I'm looking for ideas like open source libraries to minimize the coding as this is just a prototype application for a demonstration. Basically I'm looking for a quick and easy solution. Thanks!

• how to link with static mySQL C library with Visual Studio 2008?

  Hi, My project is running fine, but its requirement for some DLLs means it cannot be simply dragged and dropped by the end user. The DLLs are not loaded when put side by side with my executable, because my executable is not an application, and its location is not in the few locations where Windows looks for DLL. I already asked a question about how to make their loading happen. None of the suggestions worked (see the question at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2637499/how-can-a-win32-app-plugin-load-its-dll-in-its-own-directory) So I am now exploring another way: get rid of the DLLs altogether, and link with static versions of them. This is failing for the last of those DLLs. So I am at this point where all but one of the libraries are statically linked, and everything is fine. The last library is the standard C library for mySQL, aka Connector/C. The problem I have may or may not be related with that origin. Whenever I switched to the static library in the linker additional dependency, I get the following errors (log at the end): 1- about 40 duplicate symbols (e.g. _toupper) mutually between LIBCMT.lib and MSVCRT.lib. Interestingly, I can't control the inclusion of these two libraries: they are from Visual Studio and automatically included. So why are these symbol duplicate when I include mySQL's static lib, but not its DLL? • Sharing classes between projects in xcode/objective-c

  Hey folks, I've got a client<=server app I'm building for Mac OS X, using Objective-c/Cocoa and xCode. I've created a different project for both the apps I have, and I'm wondering the best way to share classes between them. There are several classes I've made that would be useful to both. This far I've been copying them around, but I feel like this isn't the best solution. How do I share classes effectively? Should I redo it as 1 project and just have two build targets? How do I do this? Any other info? Thanks.

• Subclassing UIScrollView for drawing w/o views

  I'm contemplating subclassing UIScrollView (the way UITextView does) to draw a fairly large amount of text (formatted in ways that NSTextView can't). So far the view won't actually scroll. I'm setting contentSize, and when I drag, I see the scroll indicator. But nothing changes (and I don't get a drawRect: message). An alternate approach is to use a child view, and I've done this. The view can be over 5000 pixels high, however, and I'm a bit concerned about performance on an actual device. (The other approach, be like UITableView, would be a huge pain -- I'm "porting" Mac Cocoa code, and a collection of views would be a huge architecture change.) I've done some searching, but haven't found anyone who is using UIScrollView to do the drawing. Has anyone done this and know of any pitfalls?

• Apple has bigger market capitalization than Microsoft

  Should I worry that my Microsoft programming skills (C#, .NET, WinAPI) will be obsolete in a few years, because everybody will be using Mac OS X, iPhone OS or some other Apple-originated OS? According to reuters, Apple has now bigger market capitalization than Microsoft. I know there is probably huge speculative bubble around Apple's shares, but just look at this graph (taken from business insider): I also know Windows have currently 90% of the OS market share, so we (Win devs) should be OK for a few years, but who knows, maybe in 10 years, it will be just 40%, and 0% on mobile phone OS market. Personally, I'm not much worried, because I think Microsoft will fight hard for their desktop OS market share, but I'm interested in your opinions.

• Reading iTunesMovies file in iPhone?

  Hi there. In iPhone, the iPod app saves the media files (audio, video) with strange names and in weird folders (F00,F01 etc). There is a file named iTunesMovies in iPhone, which contains all the information about the metadata of those video files and how they are to be displayed in iPod app. I copied that to my Mac also, and when i tried to open that file in textEdit, it showed some alien characters which made me believe that it is encrypted may be(Thats just a wild guess). I want to read/change the contents of that iTunesMovies file. Can i do that? Is there any Framework which deals with that iTunesMovies file? Thanks in advance

Functions as pointers What I typed in, as per the recipe, was: NSString *boolString (BOOL yesNo) { if (yesNo) { return (@"YES"); } else { return (@"NO"); } } // boolString The pointer asterisk in the first line doesn't seem necessary, yet deleting it results in an error message. But what does it do? In NSString * boolString (yesNo); what seems to be going on is a function is defined as a pointer to an NSString. The function without the asterisk NSLog (@"are %d and %d different? %@", 5, 5, boolString(areTheyDifferent)); returns an NSString of YES or NO. But how can it return an NSString when it's a pointer? It might return the ADDRESS of an NSString; or if dereferenced it could return the CONTENTS of that address (an NSString such as YES or NO). Yet I see no place where it is dereferenced.

• The reasons to upgrade from Delphi 2009

  I have made the question "community wiki" - it is subjective. I have upgraded to Delphi 2009 because of unicode support. I have found the anonymous methods a very interesting and useful language feature, I can't say the same about generics. The generics seemed important for me before the upgrade to Delphi 2009, but I have never used them and probably will never use. As for Delphi 2010, I don't need the attributes and I don't like the whole idea of extended RTTI - that is why Delphi 2009 is better for me. Sometimes I hit one or other annoying bug in Delphi 2009 IDE, but they are not critical and I can live with them. I have no plans to develop software for Mac or Linux. Sure sometime I will need 64-bit support, so I think about upgrading to Delphi 2012. Are where any more reasons that can force me to upgrade from Delphi 2009?

• Using SWFObject, the flash moves 1 pixel to the right on Firefox

  Please check this page: http://islandhideaway.weebly.com/ For whatever reason, the flash slideshow moves over 1 pixel when opened in Firefox on my Mac. All other browsers render it fine, but only on Firefox it leaves a 1 pixel white gap on the left! I am using the most recent version of SWFObject. This unfortunately is a garbage Weebly site and I cannot use jQuery in the system so I can't do a real gallery... so let's save the whole "don't use Flash for that" pep talk. It's a favour for a friend and I am already aware of better ways to do it. :)

  I have an application that needs branding when downloaded in certain continents. When installed in North America, for instance, the application, when run, displays a different logo and company name than in Europe. The setup file is provided through a PHP script. Presently there is a Inno Setup executable for Windows and a DMG for Mac OS X. I have seen that when downloading Google Chrome, you can specify whether or not it should send usage statistics. A brief look at the JavaScript that controls it reveals that this is simply sent back to the server with &usagestats=0 or &usagestats=1. How would I go about influencing the installation based upon settings specified via the PHP download page?

  Hello, I am getting an error while trying to upload images on an Ubuntu machine that's running Rails 2.3.4, Ruby 1.8.6 using attachment_fu with image science. FreeImage exception for type ???: IPTC: Invalid key 'Tag 0x025C' The error seems to point to this line in the image_science_processor in the attachment_fu plugin: def with_image(file, &block) ::ImageScience.with_image file, &block end My initial thoughts are that it has something to do with meta tags and the images and maybe free image. I don't actually see this error on my dev machine - Mac Snow Leopard, Rails 2.3.5, Ruby 1.8.7. • Creating a notification system using a firefox extension

  I am creating a firefox extension that should give a notification when the user hits specific sites. I do not want the same kind of notification that firefox gives for pop-ups. I don't want the user to have to go through the hassle of clicking the X in order to close the notification. Instead, I would like it to look like what happens when a normal firefox download is completed - a notification comes up, and automatically goes after a few seconds. On a mac, it looks like a growl notification, and I love the way it looks. Is there an easy way to implement this feature? Thanks

• Pylons importing Psycopg2 error

Any ideas on this issue much appreciated. EDIT: so after dealing with so many psycopg2 errors everytime I set up my mac, I've decided to use VMWareFusion running Ubuntu instead.

  I'm running an "defect fixing" group (developers do 2 weeks operations, then rotate). I want to build up a documentation "how to deal with problem x" - basically a decision tree: Is the problem in part x of the web site? Yes: Is the problem occurring in all browsers? Yes: ... No: ... No: ... The documentation should be written and extended by the people using it. Do you know of any book/article describing how that is best done, or is there a software (Mac OS X) that helps doing that?

  Hi, I am new to php and trying out this tutorial at : http://css-tricks.com/php-for-beginners-building-your-first-simple-cms/ Unfortunately I am getting the following error and can't seem to track down the reason: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_PUBLIC in ../simpleCMS.php on line 56 My code for simpleCMS.php is as is in the tutorial link above. FYI, my line 56 is the following line of code in simpleCMS.php public function display_admin() { Above this line is public function display_public() Can anyone possibly see what I could be doing wrong and again, my code is the same code from the tutorial website and have downloaded the files that came with it? Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Furthermore, I am using Mac OS X MAMP to run my Apache/MySQL Server locally. My other question is, when I using the following command: mysql_connect($this->host,$this->username,$this->password) is my hostname 'localhost' alone or do I also have to include port alongside the localhost?
