  • Displaying unnecessary HTML when showing content from MySQL database.

    - by ThatMacLad
    My homepage pulls in content from my MySQL database to create a blog. I've got it so that it only displays an extract from the posts. For some reason it displays HTML tags as well rather than formatting it using the tags (See picture below). Any help is appreciated. Homepage: <html> <head> <title>Ultan Casey | Homepage</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css" type="text/css" /> </head> <body> <div class="wrapper"> <div id="upperbar"> <a href="#">Home</a> <a href="#">About Me</a> <a href="#">Contact Me</a> <a href="http://www.twitter.com/UltanKC">Twitter</a> <form id="search-form" action="/search" method="get"> <input type="text" id="textarea" size="33" name="q" value=""/> <input type="submit" id="submit" value="Search"/> </form> </div> <div id="banner"> <img src="images/banner.jpg"> </div> <div class="sidebar"></div> <div class="posts"> <?php mysql_connect ('localhost', 'root', 'root') ; mysql_select_db ('tmlblog'); $sql = "SELECT * FROM php_blog ORDER BY timestamp DESC LIMIT 5"; $result = mysql_query($sql) or print ("Can't select entries from table php_blog.<br />" . $sql . "<br />" . mysql_error()); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $date = date("l F d Y", $row['timestamp']); $title = stripslashes($row['title']); $entry = stripslashes($row['entry']); $id = $row['id']; ?> <?php echo "<p id='title'><strong><a href=\"post.php?id=". $id . "\">" . $title . "</a></strong></p>"; ?><br /> <div class="post-thumb"><img src="thumbs/<?php echo $id ?>.png"></div> <?php echo htmlspecialchars(substr($entry, 0, 1050)) ?>... <br> <hr><br /> Posted on <?php echo $date; ?> </p> </div> </div> </p <?php } ?> </div> </div> </div> </body> </html> Image:

  • jQuery e.stopPropagation() - how to use without breaking dropbox functionality altogether?

    - by Knut Ole
    Short story: stopPropagation() prevents a dropdown menu from closing - which is good. But it also prevents the dropbox from opening next time around - which is bad. Long story: I'm using Twitter-Bootstrap and I've put a search box inside the dropdown menu like so: <div id="search_word_menu" style="position:absolute;right:157px;top:60px;"> <ul class="nav nav-pills"> <li class="dropdown" id="menu200"> <a class="dropdown-toggle btn-inverse" data-toggle="dropdown" style="width:117px;position:relative;left:2px" href="#menu200"> <i class="icon-th-list icon-white"></i> Testing <b class="caret"></b> </a> <ul class="dropdown-menu"> <li><a href="#">Retweets</a></li> <li><a href="#">Favourites</a></li> <li class="divider"></li> <li><a href="#">A list</a></li> <li class="divider"></li> <li><a href="#">A saved search</a></li> <li><a href="#">A saved #hashtag</a></li> <li class="divider"></li> <li> <!-- HERE --> <input id="drop_search" type="text" class="search_box_in_menu" value="Search..."> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> When I click inside the searchbox, the default behaviour is obviously to close the dropdown - but that makes it rather hard to write in a search term. So I've tried with the e.stopPropagation(), which does indeed prevent the dropdown from closing. Then, when I press enter in the searchbox, I'm closing the dropdown with a .toggle() - also seems to work fine. The PROBLEM arises when I want to to it all again, because the e.stopPropagation() has now disabled the dropdown alltogether - ie. when I press the dropdown menu, it doesn't open anymore! This is because of stopPropagation(), no doubt - but how can I resolve this, so that I get the aforementioned functionality, but without breaking the rest altogether? jQuery below: $(document).ready(function() { console.log("document.ready - "); //clearing search box on click $(".search_box_in_menu").click(function(e) { e.stopPropagation(); // works for the specific task console.log(".search_box_in_menu - click."); if($(this).val() == 'Search...') { $(this).val(''); console.log(".search_box_in_menu - value removed."); }; //return false; //this is e.preventDefault() and e.stopPropagation() }); // when pressing enter key in search box $('.search_box_in_menu').keypress(function(e) { var keycode = (e.keyCode ? e.keyCode : e.which); if(keycode == '13') { console.log(".search_box_in_menu - enter-key pressed."); console.log($(this).val()); $(this).closest('.dropdown-menu').toggle(); //works } }); $('.dropdown').click(function() { console.log(".dropdown - click."); $(this).closest('.dropdown-toggle').toggle(); //does nothing }); Would greatly appreciate some help! I'm starting to suspect this might be a bootstrapped-only problem, or at least caused by their implementation - but it's beyond me atm.

  • How to cleverly stop "while loop" (php)

    - by user3735697
    I'm having trouble with creating code that echoes a bunch of stuff that is corresponding to the mysql database row. It needs to keep creating the content until all rows are used and then stop. But for some reason the php file causes the browser to keep loading (it never ends). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! <?php mysql_connect ("localhost", "root", "") or die ("We couldn't connect!"); mysql_select_db ("dr"); mysql_query ("SELECT * FROM songs"); $result = mysql_query ("SELECT * FROM songs"); while ($row=mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $name = $row ['songname']; $genres = $row ['songgenres']; $mediafire = $row ['mediafirelink']; $dropbox = $row ['dropboxlink']; $source = $row ['audiosource']; echo " <div class='playing'> <!-- ======== Song Name ======== --> <li class='songnameli' id='$source'> <span class='info'>$name</span> <audio> <source src='music/singles/$source.mp3'> <source src='music/singles/$source.ogg'> </audio> </li> <!-- ======== Playlist ======== --> <li class='playlistli'> <img src='icons/addtoplaylist.png' title='Add tot the playlist!' /> </li> <!-- ======== Genres ======== --> <li class='genresli'> <img src='icons/genres.png' title='Related genres' /> <span class='addedtext genres'>$genres</span> </li> <!-- ======== Social Media links ======== --> <li> <span> <img src='icons/share.png' alt='Share this with your friends!' title='Share this!'> <!-- /// facebook /// --> <a href='http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http://www.declassified-recordings.com' class='addedtext nlink' target='blank_' onclick='popup (this.href, 800, 500); return false'>Facebook </a> <span>/</span> <!-- /// Twitter /// --> <a href='http://twitter.com/share? text=Thank%20you%20For%20Sharing!%20It%20means%20the%20world%20to%20us!%40Declassifi3d%20 &url=http://www.declassified-recordings.com' class='twitterlink nlink' target='blank_' onclick='popup (this.href, 800, 500); return false'>Twitter</a> </span> </li> <!-- ======== Download links ======== --> <li> <img src='icons/download.png' title='Download!' /> <span> <!-- /// Mediafire /// --> <a href='$mediafire' class='addedtext nlink' target='_blank'>Mediafire</a> <span class='genres'>/</span> <!-- /// Dropbox /// --> <a href='$mediafire' class='twitterlink nlink' target='_blank'>Dropbox</a> </span> </li> </div>"; } mysql_close (); ?>

  • jQuery code not working in Google Chrome...

    - by Jonathan
    Hi, I have writen a simple jQuery code to control ajax tabs navigation.. Its working in good on FireFox but in Chrome it working in one page but not in the home page I don't know why... Its really simple code just a lot of animations and callbacks and stuff like that.. here's the code: jQuery.fn.tabs = function({movieID, movieTitle}) { var tabsWrap = '#movie_details_wrap'; var tabsContent = '#tab_content'; var firstTab = '#tab_detalles'; var postPHP = 'index.php?controlador=pelicula'; //When page loads... first tab actions $('ul.tabs_nav a:first').addClass('active'); //Activate first tab nav $.get(postPHP, {"activeTab": firstTab, "movieID": movieID}, function(response){ $(tabsContent).html(response); // insert response into the faded out div $(tabsWrap).animate({ // animate the wrap div using the new container div height height: $(tabsContent).height() + "px" }, function() { $(tabsContent).fadeIn(); // fade in the div with all the info }); }); //On Click Event $('ul.tabs_nav li').click(function() { $('ul.tabs_nav a').removeClass('active'); //Remove any 'active' class $(this).find('a').addClass('active'); //Add 'active' class to selected tab var activeTab = $(this).find('a').attr('href'); //Find the href attribute value to identify the active tab + content var orgHeight = $(tabsContent).height() + 'px'; // get original height $(tabsWrap).css('height', orgHeight); // set height with css to freeze the wrap div when we hide the inner div $(tabsContent).fadeOut(200, function() { // fade out the inner div // send data by ajax (post) $.get(postPHP, {"activeTab": activeTab, "movieID": movieID , "movieTitle": movieTitle}, function(response){ $(tabsContent).html(response); // insert response into the faded out div $(tabsWrap).animate({ // animate the wrap div using the new container div height height: $(tabsContent).height() + "px" }, function() { $(tabsContent).fadeIn(); // fade in the div with all the info }); }); }); return false; }); }; Here's the HTML: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $('.tabs_nav').tabs({movieID:'135353', movieTitle: 'Some Title'}); }); </script> <!--Navigation--> <ul id="details_nav" class="tabs_nav"> <li><a href="#tab_detalles">Detalles</a></li> <li><a href="#tab_criticas">Criticas</a></li> <li><a href="#tab_posters">Posters</a></li> <li><a href="#tab_trailers">Trailers</a></li> </ul> <div class="border_wrap"> <div id="movie_details_wrap"> <div id="tab_content"> <!--Tabs content here--> </div> </div> </div>

  • Using rounded corners in modern websites with CSS3

    - by nikolaosk
    This is going to be the sixth post in a series of posts regarding HTML 5. You can find the other posts here , here, here , here and here.In this post I will provide a hands-on example on how to use rounded corners (rounded corners in CSS3) in your website. I think this is the feature that is most required in the new modern websites.Most websites look great with their lovely round panels and rounded corner tab style menus. We could achieve that effect earlier but we should resort to complex CSS rules and images. I will show you how to accomplish this great feature with the power of CSS 3.We will not use Javascript.Javascript is required for IE 7, IE 8 and the notorious IE 6. The best solution for implementing corners using CSS and Javascript without using images is Nifty corners cube. There are detailed information how to achieve this in the link I provided. This solution is tested in earlier vesrions of IE (IE 6,IE 7,IE 8) and Opera,Firefox,Safari. In order to be absolutely clear this is not (and could not be) a detailed tutorial on HTML 5. There are other great resources for that.Navigate to the excellent interactive tutorials of W3School.Another excellent resource is HTML 5 Doctor.Two very nice sites that show you what features and specifications are implemented by various browsers and their versions are http://caniuse.com/ and http://html5test.com/. At this times Chrome seems to support most of HTML 5 specifications.Another excellent way to find out if the browser supports HTML 5 and CSS 3 features is to use the Javascript lightweight library Modernizr.In this hands-on example I will be using Expression Web 4.0.This application is not a free application. You can use any HTML editor you like.You can use Visual Studio 2012 Express edition. You can download it here.Before I go on with the actual demo I will use the (http://www.caniuse.com) to see the support for web fonts from the latest versions of modern browsers.Please have a look at the picture below. We see that all the latest versions of modern browsers support this feature.We can see that even IE 9 supports this feature.  Let's move on with the actual demo. This is going to be a rather simple demo.I create a simple HTML 5 page. The markup follows and it is very easy to use and understand <!DOCTYPE html><html lang="en">  <head>    <title>HTML 5, CSS3 and JQuery</title>    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" >    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css">       </head>  <body>      <div id="header">      <h1>Learn cutting edge technologies</h1>    </div>        <div id="main">          <h2>HTML 5</h2>                        <p id="panel1">            HTML5 is the latest version of HTML and XHTML. The HTML standard defines a single language that can be written in HTML and XML. It attempts to solve issues found in previous iterations of HTML and addresses the needs of Web Applications, an area previously not adequately covered by HTML.          </p>      </div>             </body>  </html>Then I need to write the various CSS rules that style this markup. I will name it style.css   body{        line-height: 38px;        width: 1024px;        background-color:#eee;        text-align:center;      }#panel1 { margin:auto; text-align:left; background-color:#77cdef;width:400px; height:250px; padding:15px;font-size:16px;font-family:tahoma;color:#fff;border-radius: 20px;}Have a look below to see what my page looks like in IE 10. This is possible through the border-radious property. The colored panel has all four corners rounded with the same radius.We can add a border to the rounded corner panel by adding this property declaration in the #panel1,  border:4px #000 solid;We can have even better visual effects if we specify a radius for each corner.This is the updated version of the style.css. body{        line-height: 38px;        width: 1024px;        background-color:#eee;        text-align:center;      }#panel1 { margin:auto; text-align:left; background-color:#77cdef;border:4px #000 solid;width:400px; height:250px; padding:15px;font-size:16px;font-family:tahoma;color:#fff;border-top-left-radius: 20px;border-top-right-radius: 70px;border-bottom-right-radius: 20px;border-bottom-left-radius: 70px;} This is how my page looks in Firefox 15.0.1  In this final example I will show you how to style with CSS 3 (rounded corners) a horizontal navigation menu. This is the new version of the HTML markup<!DOCTYPE html><html lang="en">  <head>    <title>HTML 5, CSS3 and JQuery</title>    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" >    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css">       </head>  <body>      <div id="header">      <h1>Learn cutting edge technologies</h1>    </div>        <div id="nav"><ul><li><a class="mymenu" id="activelink" href="http://weblogs.asp.net/controlpanel/blogs/posteditor.aspx?SelectedNavItem=Posts§ionid=1153&postid=8934038#">Main</a></li><li><a class="mymenu" href="http://weblogs.asp.net/controlpanel/blogs/posteditor.aspx?SelectedNavItem=Posts§ionid=1153&postid=8934038#">HTML 5</a></li><li><a class="mymenu" href="http://weblogs.asp.net/controlpanel/blogs/posteditor.aspx?SelectedNavItem=Posts§ionid=1153&postid=8934038#">CSS 3</a></li><li><a class="mymenu" href="http://weblogs.asp.net/controlpanel/blogs/posteditor.aspx?SelectedNavItem=Posts§ionid=1153&postid=8934038#">JQuery</a></li></ul></div>        <div id="main">          <h2>HTML 5</h2>                        <p id="panel1">            HTML5 is the latest version of HTML and XHTML. The HTML standard defines a single language that can be written in HTML and XML. It attempts to solve issues found in previous iterations of HTML and addresses the needs of Web Applications, an area previously not adequately covered by HTML.          </p>      </div>             </body>  </html> This is the updated version of style.css body{        line-height: 38px;        width: 1024px;        background-color:#eee;        text-align:center;      }#panel1 { margin:auto; text-align:left; background-color:#77cdef;border:4px #000 solid;width:400px; height:250px; padding:15px;font-size:16px;font-family:tahoma;color:#fff;border-top-left-radius: 20px;border-top-right-radius: 70px;border-bottom-right-radius: 20px;border-bottom-left-radius: 70px;}#nav ul {width:900px; position:relative;top:24px;}ul li { text-decoration:none; display:inline;}ul li a.mymenu { font-family:Tahoma; color:black; font-size:14px;font-weight:bold;background-color:#77cdef; color:#fff;border-top-left-radius:18px; border-top-right-radius:18px; border:1px solid black; padding:15px; padding-bottom:10px;margin :2px; text-decoration:none; border-bottom:none;}.mymenu:hover { background-color:#e3781a; color:black;} The CSS rules are the classic rules that are extensively used for styling menus.The border-radius property is still responsible for the rounded corners in the menu.This is how my page looks in Chrome version 21.  Hope it helps!!!

  • SEO - Google and link cleaning / cloaking [closed]

    - by Jens Törnell
    Possible Duplicate: Does the Google spider render JavaScript? This a SEO related question, not a code related one. Googles own link cleaning / cloaking Gå to http://www.google.com and search for something. Hover the title and you will se a link to the page you want to go to. The URL you see when hovering is NOT the link you are clicking on. Instead of clicking you can drag the title a little bit and then hover it. Then you will se the real URL. My own link cleaning / cloaking Go to http://jsfiddle.net/NvmER/1/ and click the link, or look at the code below. You will be "redirected" to http://www.test.com. The real link are http://www.test.com/?event=23 Working code in case jsfiddle don't work If you need to se how it works I pasted a code below. <a class="direct" href="http://www.test.com/?event=23" data-redirect="http://www.test.com">Länk</a>? $(document).ready(function() { $("a.direct").live("mousedown", function(e){ var oldurl = $(this).attr('href'); var newurl = $(this).attr('data-redirect'); $(this).attr('href', newurl); }); });? Question Is this ok with Google? It's done with javascript. If you have an answer, link to a source or test to support it.

  • Determine whether a link points to a file on local host or foreign domain [migrated]

    - by user107157
    This has been a burning question for me ever since and I think it's interesting enough to discuss it on the forums. As most will know, in websites we include anchor links, stylesheets, script files (javascript) and images. For anchor links we use the form <a href="..." /> For stylesheets we may use the form <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="..." /> For javascript we may use <script src="..." /> For images we use <img src="..." /> So, the question is this: How do we know that what is in the link pointer (i.e. replacing the ... in each example) is a local file or a foreign entity? To make it clear, lets say I create a local file named "ashish.com". Now, my purpose is to create a link so that anybody who clicks on it may download it. So, my code would be thus: <a href="ashish.com">Download It</a> But this makes it ambiguous. I could also be referring to a website named "ashish.com" So, how does the computer magically know which one I mean? Or does it even know this? What would happen in such a scenario?

  • Duplicating someone's content legitimately & writing HTML to support that

    - by Codecraft
    I want to add content from other blogs to my own (with the authors permission) to help build additional relevant content and support articles I've found useful that others have written. I'm looking into how to do this responsibly - ie, by giving the original content author a boost and not competing against them for search traffic which should go to their site. In order to keep my duplicate content out of search, and to hint to the search engines where the original content is to be found i've implemented: <head> <meta name='robots' content='noindex, follow'> <link rel='canonical' href='http://www.originalblog.com/original-post.html' /> </head> Additionally, to boost the original article and to let readers know where it came from i'll be adding something like this: <div> Article originally written by <a href='http://www.authorswebsite.com'>Authors Name</a> and reproduced with permission.<br/> <a href='http://www.originalblog.com/original-post.html' target='new'> Read the original article here. </a> </div> All that remains is a way to 'officially' credit the original author in the HTML for the search spiders to see. Can anyone tell me a way to do this possibly using rel="author" (as far as I can see thats only good for my own original content), or perhaps it doesn't matter given that the reproduced pages will be kept out of search engines? Also, have I overlooked anything in the approach?

  • How can I decrease relevancy of Creative Commons footer text? (In Google Webmaster Tools)

    - by anonymous coward
    I know that I may just have to link the image to make this happen, but I figured it was worth asking, just in case there's some other semantic markup or tips I could use... I have a site that uses the textual Creative Commons blurb in the footer. The markup is like so: <div class="footer"> <!-- snip --> <!-- Creative Commons License --> <a rel="license" href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/us/"><img alt="Creative Commons License" style="border-width:0" src="http://i.creativecommons.org/l/by-nc-sa/3.0/us/80x15.png" /></a><br />This work by <a xmlns:cc="http://creativecommons.org/ns#" href="http://www.xmemphisx.com/" property="cc:attributionName" rel="cc:attributionURL">xMEMPHISx.com</a> is licensed under a <a rel="license" href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/us/">Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 United States License</a>. <!-- /Creative Commons License --> </div> Within Google Webmaster Tools, the list of relevant keywords is heavily saturated with the text from that blurb. For instance, 50% of my top-ten most relevant keywords (including the site name): [site name] license [keyword] commons creative [keyword] alike [keyword] attribution [keyword] I have not done any extensive testing to find out rather or not this list even matters, and so far this doesn't impact performance in any way. The site is well designed for humans, and it is as findable as it needs to be at the moment. But, out of mostly curiosity: Do you have any tips for decreasing the relevancy of the text from the Creative Commons footer blurb?

  • n00b needs some PHP syntax guidance [closed]

    - by Michael
    If you look at http://www.cruc.es/?paged=12/ and go to the bottom of the page you'll see the bottom navigation with the next and previous options. I've been able to make the page numbers work by changing page to paged= in the code. I don't know enough about PHP to get the previous/next options to work. Any advice would be appreciated and I've pasted the code below. Thank you: n00b if ( $query->found_posts > $query->query_vars["posts_per_page"] ) { echo '<ul class="paging">'; // Previous link? if ( $page > 1 ) { echo '<li class="previous"><a href="'.$baseURL.'/page/'.($page-1).'/'.$qs.'">previous</a></li>'; } // Loop through pages for ( $i=1; $i <= $query->max_num_pages; $i++ ) { // Current page or linked page? if ( $i == $page ) { echo '<li class="active">'.$i.'</li>'; } else { echo '<li><a href="'.$baseURL.'/?paged='.$i.'/'.$qs.'">'.$i.'</a></li>'; } } // Next link? if ( $page < $query->max_num_pages ) { echo '<li><a href="'.$baseURL.'/page/'.($page+1).'/'.$qs.'">next</a></li>'; } echo '</ul>'; }

  • What data to send when tracking clicks with Google Analytics events (and how)?

    - by user359650
    When tracking clicks on links, there are 3 items I'm interested in: link location in the page by grabbing the id of the closest parent: to see influence of location on click-through link text: to see influence of text on click-through link href attribute value: to see where people go when leaving my website The problem when using Google Analytics to track those clicks is that events only have 3 available text fields, one of which being the category, which if you use to store one of the above items will create a mess in your Event reporting because you will have as many categories as item values. Therefore if you assign a predefined value to the category (e.g. clicks), then you're left with only 2 event fields (action, label) to store 3 items (location, text, href). That in itself isn't the end of the world because you can concatenate 2 items into 1 event field, then use the reporting or the API to filter things out. Accordingly what I plan on doing is this: category: clicks action: {location_on_page} ¦ {text} label: {href} where {__} are variable values related to the clicked links With this I can easily create some reports directly via the GUI: downloads: include only events where label ends with .pdf click outs to particular domains: include only events where label contains domain And for more complex tasks I need to export the data (or use the API): influence of location on clicks: for each location in the design, count number of events that have that location in the action, then corroborate with pageviews of the corresponding pages. Whilst this looks good I'm wondering if there is a better approach, hence the following questions: Q1: Can you foresee any particular issues with this particular setup (e.g. things I won't be able to report on)? Q2: Can you think of other data that would be interesting to include in the event?

  • Google sitemap HrefLang tag without the main site url

    - by Rashmi Pandit
    We have websites with multilingual content. e.g. http://www.example.com/about-us/ http://www.example.com/en-HK/about-us/ http://www.example.com/en-GB/about-us/ http://www.example.com/zn-CH/about-us/ We need to configure the hreflang tags in sitemap for Google to know that there are alternate links for the same pages in different languages. I know for the above example that my sitemap url tag would look like this: <url> <loc>http://www.example.com/about-us</loc> <xhtml:link rel="alternate" hreflang="en-GB" href="http://www.example.com/en-GB/about-us"/> <xhtml:link rel="alternate" hreflang="en-HK" href="http://www.example.com/en-HK/about-us"/> <xhtml:link rel="alternate" hreflang="zn-CH" href="http://www.example.com/zn-CH/about-us"/> <changefreq>daily</changefreq> <priority>0.8</priority> </url> However, if I don't have the main url but just the last three ones with en-HK, en-GB and zn-CH, then how should my url tag look? Should I just skip the loc tag and keep the three xhtml:link tags? Or can I specify any url in the loc tag and put the remaining two in xhtml:link tags? I am new to Google sitemaps. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rashmi Edit: From the answer posted on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18423624/sitemap-for-domain-with-multilanguage-site/18423803#18423803, for my example with sites in en-HK, en-GB and zn-CH, should there be three url tags, with each of them assigned to loc with the other two in xhtml:link?

  • Which of these URL scenarios is best for big link menus? [seo /user friendly urls]

    Hi folks, a question about urls... me and a good friend of mine are exploring the possibilities of either of the three scenarios for a website where each webpage has a menusystem with about 130 links.: SCENARIO 1 the pages menu system has SHORT non-descriptive hyperlinks as well as a SHORT canonical: <a href:"design">dutch design</a> the pages canonical url points to e.g.: "design" OR SCENARIO 2 the pages menu system has SHORT non-descriptive hyperlinks wwith LONG canonical urls: <a href="design">dutch design</a> the pages canonical url points to: dutch-design-crazy-yes-but-always-honest OR SCENARIO 3 the pages menu system has LONG descriptive hyperlinks with LONG canonical urls: <a href="dutch-design-crazy-yes-but-always-honest">dutch design</a> the pages canonical url points to: dutch-design-crazy-yes-but-always-honest Currently we have scenario 2... should we progress to scenario 3? All three work fine and point via RewriteMod to the same page which is fetched underwater. Now, my question is which of these is better in terms of: userfriendlyness (page loading times, full url visible in url bar or not) seo friendlyness (proper indexing due to the urls containing descriptive relevant tags) other concerns we forgot like possible penalties for so many words in link hrefs?? Thanks very much for your suggestions: much appreciated!

  • Can't see like plugin iframe on (at least) some browsers [migrated]

    - by MEM
    Not sure why. I grabbed the code from: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/ And as stated there, we can read: "href - the URL to like. The XFBML version defaults to the current page. Note: After July 2013 migration, href should be an absolute URL" So I did. <body> <div> <iframe src="//www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fprojectokairos&amp;width=100&amp;height=21&amp;colorscheme=light&amp;layout=button_count&amp;action=like&amp;show_faces=false&amp;send=false" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:100px; height:21px;" allowTransparency="true"></iframe> </div> </body> Could this be related with the fact that the page is unpublished? I hope not because I do need to place the button here and there on several pages before the FB page goes live.

  • Positioned element adding to total div height [migrated]

    - by Max
    I have a 800 x 600 rotatable image with forward and back buttons repositioned to the sides. The height of the div is suppose to be 600px, but the actual height of the div was pushed to 690, including the height of the button image. And the div was blocking a row of clickable menu on top. So I made the div height to 518px and moved top -75px to get the real dimension I want. But I feel dirty doing this... Is there a correct way to do this? Or is this workaround more or less correct? Below is the code. Thanks! <div class="Content Wide" id="LayoutColumn1"> <div style=" width: 980px; height: 518px; display: block; position: relative; float: left;"> <a href="#" onClick="prev();"><img src="/template/img/next_button.png" style="position: relative; top: 200px; left: 5px; z-index: 2;"></a> <a href="/chef-special/" id="mainLink"><img src="/template/img/chef_special_large.png" id="main" style="margin: 0 0 0 50px; position: relative; float: left; top: -75px; z-index: 1;"></a> <a href="#" onClick="next();"><img src="/template/img/next_button.png" style="position: relative; top: 200px; left: 787px; z-index: 2;"></a> </div> </div>

  • jqmodal IE (7 or 8) flashes black before modal loaded

    - by brad
    This is killing me. In both IE7 and 8, using jqModal, the screen flashes black before the modal content is loaded. I've set up a test app to show you what's happening. I've taken jqModal EXACTLY from the site, no changes whatsoever, no external css that could be affecting my app. It works perfectly in every other browser (including IE6). http://jqmtest.heroku.com/ So, first two links are ajax calls, second is straight up inline HTML. (I originally thought it was the ajax that was affecting it, but that doesn't seem to be the case, I then thought it was slow loading ajax, hence to two differen ajax links) What's crazy is that the jqmodal site itself works perfectly in IE, no flashing of black, but I can't see what I'm doing wrong. Code is straight forward html: <body> <div id="ajaxModal" class="jqmWindow"></div> <div id="inlineModal" class="jqmWindow"> <div style="height:300px;position:relative;"> <p>Here's some inline content</p> <a href="#" onclick='$("#inlineModal").jqmHide();return false;' style="position:absolute;bottom:10px;right:10px">Close</a> </div> </div> <div style="width:600px;height:400px;margin:auto;background:#eee;"> <p><a href="/ajax/short" class="jqModal">Short loading modal</a></p> <br /> <p><a href="/ajax/long" class="jqModal">Longer loading modal</a></p> <br /> <p><a href="#" class="jqInline">inline modal</a></p> </div> </body> Javascript: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function(){ $("#ajaxModal").jqm({ajax:'@href', modal:true}); $("#inlineModal").jqm({modal:true, trigger:'.jqInline'}); }); </script> CSS is exactly the same as the one downloaded from jqModal's site so I'll omit it, but you can see it on my app Has anyone experienced this? I don't get how his works and mine doesn't.

  • HTML Purifier: Removing an element conditionally based on its attributes

    - by pinkgothic
    As per the HTML Purifier smoketest, 'malformed' URIs are occasionally discarded to leave behind an attribute-less anchor tag, e.g. <a href="javascript:document.location='http://www.google.com/'">XSS</a> becomes <a>XSS</a> ...as well as occasionally being stripped down to the protocol, e.g. <a href="http://1113982867/">XSS</a> becomes <a href="http:/">XSS</a> While that's unproblematic, per se, it's a bit ugly. Instead of trying to strip these out with regular expressions, I was hoping to use HTML Purifier's own library capabilities / injectors / plug-ins / whathaveyou. Point of reference: Handling attributes Conditionally removing an attribute in HTMLPurifier is easy. Here the library offers the class HTMLPurifier_AttrTransform with the method confiscateAttr(). While I don't personally use the functionality of confiscateAttr(), I do use an HTMLPurifier_AttrTransform as per this thread to add target="_blank" to all anchors. // more configuration stuff up here $htmlDef = $htmlPurifierConfiguration->getHTMLDefinition(true); $anchor = $htmlDef->addBlankElement('a'); $anchor->attr_transform_post[] = new HTMLPurifier_AttrTransform_Target(); // purify down here HTMLPurifier_AttrTransform_Target is a very simple class, of course. class HTMLPurifier_AttrTransform_Target extends HTMLPurifier_AttrTransform { public function transform($attr, $config, $context) { // I could call $this->confiscateAttr() here to throw away an // undesired attribute $attr['target'] = '_blank'; return $attr; } } That part works like a charm, naturally. Handling elements Perhaps I'm not squinting hard enough at HTMLPurifier_TagTransform, or am looking in the wrong place(s), or generally amn't understanding it, but I can't seem to figure out a way to conditionally remove elements. Say, something to the effect of: // more configuration stuff up here $htmlDef = $htmlPurifierConfiguration->getHTMLDefinition(true); $anchor = $htmlDef->addElementHandler('a'); $anchor->elem_transform_post[] = new HTMLPurifier_ElementTransform_Cull(); // add target as per 'point of reference' here // purify down here With the Cull class extending something that has a confiscateElement() ability, or comparable, wherein I could check for a missing href attribute or a href attribute with the content http:/. HTMLPurifier_Filter I understand I could create a filter, but the examples (Youtube.php and ExtractStyleBlocks.php) suggest I'd be using regular expressions in that, which I'd really rather avoid, if it is at all possible. I'm hoping for an onboard or quasi-onboard solution that makes use of HTML Purifier's excellent parsing capabilities. Returning null in a child-class of HTMLPurifier_AttrTransform unfortunately doesn't cut it. Anyone have any smart ideas, or am I stuck with regexes? :)

  • JqTouch - Detect trigger for animation

    - by majman
    Yet another problem I'm having w/ jqTouch... I'm trying to detect what element was clicked to trigger an animation so that I can pass parameters from the clicked item to the subsequent page. My HTML is: <div id="places"> <div class="toolbar"> <h1>Places</h1> <a class="back" href="#">Back</a> </div> <ul> <li id="1"><a href="#singleplace">Place 1</a></li> <li id="2"><a href="#singleplace">Place 2</a></li> <li id="3"><a href="#singleplace">Place 3</a></li> </ul> </div> <div id="singleplace"> <div class="toolbar"> <h1></h1> <a class="back" href="#">Back</a> </div> </div> When I click on any of the list items in #places, I'm able to slide over to #singleplace just fine, but I'm trying to detect which element was clicked so that I can pass parameters into the #singleplace div. My javascript is: var placeID; $('#places a').live('mouseup',function(){ $('#singleplace h1').html($(this).text()) placeID = $(this).parent().attr('id'); }) I've tried several alternatives to the $(el).live('event', fn()) approach including: $('#places a').live('click',fn()... $('#places a').live('mouseup',fn()... $('#places a').live('tap',fn()... $('#places a').tap(fn()... None of which seem to work. Is there a better way I could be handling this? I noticed on jqTouch's issues page, there is this: http://code.google.com/p/jqtouch/issues/detail?id=91 which may be part of the problem...

  • JavaScript: Given an offset and substring length in an HTML string, what is the parent node?

    - by Bungle
    My current project requires locating an array of strings within an element's text content, then wrapping those matching strings in <a> elements using JavaScript (requirements simplified here for clarity). I need to avoid jQuery if at all possible - at least including the full library. For example, given this block of HTML: <div> <p>This is a paragraph of text used as an example in this Stack Overflow question.</p> </div> and this array of strings to match: ['paragraph', 'example'] I would need to arrive at this: <div> <p>This is a <a href="http://www.example.com/">paragraph</a> of text used as an <a href="http://www.example.com/">example</a> in this Stack Overflow question.</p> </div> I've arrived at a solution to this by using the innerHTML() method and some string manipulation - basically using the offsets (via indexOf()) and lengths of the strings in the array to break the HTML string apart at the appropriate character offsets and insert <a href="http://www.example.com/"> and </a> tags where needed. However, an additional requirement has me stumped. I'm not allowed to wrap any matched strings in <a> elements if they're already in one, or if they're a descendant of a heading element (<h1> to <h6>). So, given the same array of strings above and this block of HTML (the term matching has to be case-insensitive, by the way): <div> <h1>Example</a> <p>This is a <a href="http://www.example.com/">paragraph of text</a> used as an example in this Stack Overflow question.</p> </div> I would need to disregard both the occurrence of "Example" in the <h1> element, and the "paragraph" in <a href="http://www.example.com/">paragraph of text</a>. This suggests to me that I have to determine which node each matched string is in, and then traverse its ancestors until I hit <body>, checking to see if I encounter a <a> or <h_> node along the way. Firstly, does this sound reasonable? Is there a simpler or more obvious approach that I've failed to consider? It doesn't seem like regular expressions or another string-based comparison to find bounding tags would be robust - I'm thinking of issues like self-closing elements, irregularly nested tags, etc. There's also this... Secondly, is this possible, and if so, how would I approach it?

  • Not able to delete list which dynamically created with jquery.

    - by shin
    I have two html here. The first one is dynamically generated by php and second one is just html to test. I also have the following jquery. When I click a cross with class delete in the second ones(plain html), it works nicely. However when I click a cross in the first ones, it does not work. It redirect me to the home page with # at the end. I am hoping someone point out what I am doing wrong. Thank in advance. Can anyone help in this php page navigation script switch on counting normal serial number? • Optimizing jQuery for Tabs

    - by jpdbaugh
    I am in the process of developing a widget. The widget has three tabs that are implemented in the following way. <div id="widget"> <ul id="tabs"> <li><a href="http...">One</a></li> <li><a href="http...">Two</a></li> <li><a href="http...">Three</a></li> </ul> <div id="tab_container"> <div id="tab_content"> //Tab Content goes here... </div> </div> </div> // The active class is initialized when the document loads $("#tabs li a").click(function() { $("#tabs li.active").removeClass("active"); $("#tab_content").load($(this).attr('href')); $(this).parent().addClass("active"); return false; }); The problem I am having is that the jquery code that have written is very slow. If the user changes tabs quickly the widget gets behing and bogged down. This causes the tabs to to not align with the data being displayed and just general lag. I believe that this is because the tab is being changed before $.load() is finished. I have tried to implement the following: ("#tabs li a").click(function() { $("#tabs li.active").removeClass("active"); $("#tab_content").load($(this).attr('href'), function (){ $(this).parent().addClass("active"); }); return false; }); It is my understanding that the callback function within in the load function does not execute until the load function is completed. I think this would solve my problem, however I can not come up with a way to select the correct tab that was clicked within the callback function. If this is not the way to do this then what is the best way implement these tabs so that they would stop loading an old request and load the newest tab selection by the user? Thanks

  • Browser displays page without styles for a short moment (visual glitch)

    - by Pierre
    I have observed that, very infrequently, Internet Explorer (7 or 8, it does not matter) displays our web pages (www.epsitec.ch) a short time without applying the CSS. The layout appears completely broken, with everything displayed sequentially from top to bottom. When the page has finished loading, everything finally gets displayed properly. Our web pages do not use any fancy scripting, just two javascript inclusions for QuantCast and Google Analytics, done at the end of the page. By the way, we already had the issue before adding the QuantCast script. The CSS gets linked in the <head> section: <head> <title>Crésus Comptabilité</title> <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" /> <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.epsitec.ch/favicon.ico" /> <link href="../../style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> ... </head> and then follows static HTML up to the final chunk which includes the JavaScript: ... <div id="account"> <a class="deselect" href="/account/login">Identifiez-vous</a> <script type="text/javascript"> _qoptions={qacct:"..."}; </script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://edge.quantserve.com/quant.js"> </script> <noscript> <img src="..." style="display: none;" border="0" height="1" width="1"/> </noscript> </div> <div id="contact"> <a href="/support/contact">Contactez-nous</a> </div> <div id="ending"><!-- --></div> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> ... </script> <script type="text/javascript"> var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("..."); pageTracker._initData(); pageTracker._trackPageview(); </script> </body> As this is a very short visual glitch, I have no idea what provokes it. Worse, I cannot reproduce it and it appears only on seldom occasions. How can I further investigate the cause of the glitch? Are there any best practices I should be aware of?

  • asp.net menu control css for child items
