• Juniper’s Network Connect ncsvc on Linux: “host checker failed, error 10”

  I’m trying to log in to a Juniper VPN with Network Connect from a headless Linux client. I followed the instructions and used the script from http://mad-scientist.us/juniper.html. When running the script with --nogui switch the command that gets finally executed is $HOME/.juniper_networks/network_connect/ncsvc -h HOST -u USER -r REALM -f $HOME/.vpn.default.crt. I get asked for the password, a line “Connecting to…” is printed but then the programm silently stops. The HostChecker Configuration Guide mentions that a $HOME/.juniper_networks/tncc.jar gets installed on Linux, but my installation contains no such file. From that I concluded that HostChecker is disabled for my VPN on Linux? Are the POST to /dana-na/cc/ccupdate.cgi and “host checker failed” connected or independent? By running the connection over a SSL proxy I found out that the POST data is status=NOTOK (Funny side note: the client of the oh-so-secure VPN does not validate the server’s SSL certificate, so is wide open to MITM attacks…). So it seems that it’s the client that closes the connection and not the server.

  Recently my CENTOS machine has been under many attacks. I run MRTG and the TCP connections graph shoots up like crazy when an attack is going on. It results in the machine becoming inaccessible. Im no expert, but im not sure if this is ideal. My question is, what are some good things to add to the iptables file and possibly other files which would make it harder for the attackers to attack my machine without closing out any non-attacking users. • Configure IIS site to work with host header & hosts file entry

  I'm I bit of an IIS / Web noob (I'm a C# backend service / winforms dev) so please bare with me :-) I've set up a site in IIS on my local dev machine. In the bindings section of the site ive added 4 bindings, all 4 for http: Host Name Port IP Address blog.sourcecube.co.za 26581 * www.blog.sourcecube.co.za 26581 * blog.sourcecube.co.za 26581 127.0.0.1 www.blog.sourcecube.co.za 26581 127.0.0.1 in my hosts file (drivers\etc\hosts), i've added the folling entries: 127.0.0.1 blog.sourcecube.co.za 127.0.0.1 www.blog.sourcecube.co.za when i ping my domain name from the command line it does in fact resolve to the loopback address, 127.0.0.1. So what I'm expecting to happen when i navigate to blog.sourcecube.co.za in my browser is for it to resolve to 127.0.0.1, and when the request hits IIS, it should know which site to serve because of the host header? But when i navigate to blog.sourcecube.co.za, i get an "Unable to connect, Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at blog.sourcecube.co.za" error. What am I doing wrong? --- UPDATE --- Navigating to blog.sourcecube.co.za:26581 from my browser works... I'd like get it working without specifying the port number though.

• Postfix "mail-to-script" pipe only delivers empty messages

  i have a problem here. I want that a incoming email is piped to a php script in the system through postfix. My System is running with ispconfig 3, postfix and dovecot (< virtual mailbox users are saved in mysql). I looked already into this one: How to configure postfix to pipe all incoming email to a script? ... the script is executed, but no "message" is delivered to the script. My setup so far: In ISPConfig 3 i have set up the following email route: Active Server Domain Transport Sort by Yes example.com pipe.example.com piper: 5 excerpt from my postfix master.cf: piper unix - n n - - pipe user=piper:piper directory=/home/piper argv=php -q /home/piper/mail.php so far it is working great (mail sent to [email protected]) (mail.log): Jun 21 16:07:11 example postfix/pipe[10948]: 235CF7613E2: to=<[email protected]>, relay=piper, delay=0.04, delays=0.01/0.01/0/0.02, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (delivered via piper service) ... and no errors in mail.err the mail.php is sucessfully executed (its chmod 777 and chown'ed to piper), but creates a empty .txt file (normally it should contain the email message): -rw------- 1 piper piper 0 Jun 21 16:07 mailtext_1340287631.txt the mail.php script ive used, is the one from http://www.email2php.com/HowItWorks if i use their (commercial) service to pipe an email to the mail.php (in a apache2 environment) through a provided "pipe-email", the message is saved sucessfully and complete. • Server 2003 PDC DNS not working..Failover server is...

  In the midst of trying to utilize proc power, i create a fault tolerant DNS server a while ago. Since, Ive been trying to add another controller for exchange. So I thought I would revert back to a single primary DNS for the meantime and now Im balancing on a thread. The server i thought I uninstalled DNS, is still acting as DNS. And now the PDC does not resolve. Can anybody walk me through, Im overwhelmed and cant think straight... Im afraid if anyone restarts their machine they wont have internet. Update Ok so from the beginning. I was configuring Exchange on a new server 2008. How it happened I dont know, but it started to not resolve DNS. (exclamation mark on NIC) even though everything was static. So ultimately I decided to remove the server from the problem, because I noticed DNS was in disarray if I used the DNS IP of the first server. This is when I tested with nslookup on each DNS server. I had uninstalled DNS from the second server, but nslookup was still resolving with that IPaddress, which has me all wound up cause I dont understand. So, since the first DNS server isn't resolving, Im assuming if the second one isnt configured right I'll loose internet. Im just confused and dont know where to start troubleshooting...

• All computers on network get stuck waiting for some sites indefinetely

  This happens across three computers, running windows 7 and Ubuntu, firefox, opera, and chrome (all latest versions). I am connected to the internet through a Verizon wireless usb modem. When I try to open some web pages they will never finish loading (and usually never even show anything). The status bar at the bottom of the browser will display "Waiting for X" The servers it gets stuck on include: platform.twitter.com s7.addthis.com connect.facebook.net ajax.googleapis.com 2mdn.net Ive been getting away with just blocking them in AdBlock up until now, however the last two have been causing problems. There are some sites which require googleapis.com to load correctly, and some that wont ever load unless its blocked. eBay requires access to 2mdn.net to load pictures. On top of this its getting really annoying having to update AdBlock across all these computers whenever a new site pops up. I'm hoping there's some easier way to fix this? The different sites causing the freeze indicate to me that it's either a problem on my end (somehow?) or some server side software that got updated with a new bug?

  ok so ive had a 4x2TB(samsung HD204UI w/firmware patch) raid5 array working normally for about a month. It was in a h57 gigabyte motherboard using the intel raid with Windows 7 x64. Today I got an intel h67 motherboard, so I upgraded the intel raid drivers to 10.1.0.1008 from 9.6.0.1014, and I'm not sure if i checked after a reboot, but it caused no problems. I swapped in the new dh67 motherboard, and my array status was "failed". 2 of the 4 drives listed themselves as members, while the other two drives listed themselves as non-members. I tried going back to the old h57 mobo, and downgrading the raid drivers, but the issue remains. It's not port dependent, 2 of the drives always come up as non-members regardless of what port or motherboard they are plugged into. This screenshot should show that the SNs match, which raises the question why the software doesn't realize the drive is a member of the array. I'd like to know if anyone has experienced anything similar, and what should I do, can I force the drive to be recognized as a member (without wiping data)?

• Conflicts with file from package mysql-5.0.77

  I'm trying to install APC (Alternative PHP Cache) on a CentOs dedicated server. I've everything done apart from configuring phpize. Running :yum -y install php-devel gives me the following error file /usr/share/mysql/charsets/Index.xml from install of mysql-libs-5.1.57-1.el5.art.x86_64 conflicts with file from package mysql-5.0.77-4.el5_5.3.i386 etc etc for other languages So, i think the mysql version i have is too old & i more than likely need to upgrade mysql to version 5.1. Im reluctant to do this as a) its a live server (although only 3/4 domains) b) ive read ill read to recompile php if i upgrade To add to this i have plesk installed for managing domains & might need reinstalling/reconfiguring also. sorry for the long intro but its my first post & best to give as much info as possible, so my question is basically Is there any way i can run :yum -y install php-devel to get phpize working to complete installation of APC for the version of mysql i currently have installed? ie 5.0.77

• Ethernet/8P8C crimp contacts bent

  (if anyone knows correct terminology please correct). Ive got a (fairly large) number of existing Ethernet cables that over the years many have got damaged connector clips, so got a crimp tool and some new connectors for them. However out of all 4 attempts I have tried, on crimping 2+ of the little copper contacts that bite into the wires have instead just bent to one side, and so gone between the gaps in in the crimp tool... Unless this really is me doing something wrong (what?) I am inclined to blame the hardware, but is this the crimper or the new connectors I got? I tried to take a picture, as you can just about see looking from the left 3rd, 6th, 7th and 8th pins didn't get pushed in, and so don't form a connector. Unfortunately my camera was barely able to focus on it and then this website converted it to a JPEG... Update: Connectors/Cable/Tools: The wires are stranded (looks about 6 and no evidence of being aluminum/not copper), and the pins(?) have 2 little flat spikes lengthways along the cables (I understand to dig into it, while solid core connectors would have like 2 plates designed to go around the core?). Crimper was http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0013EXTKK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (seemed to be highly rated, I already had tools for cutting/stripping). The top (used) connector is one from a few years back (different tool and connectors), the thing that concerns me that it might not be the tool I need to replace is just how thin the pins are on the new one that maybe a tool could legitimately bend some into a gap rather than pushing them in fully? In fact I can move individual pins to the sides significantly with my fingernail, is that normal?

• how to throttle http requests on a linux machine?

  EDIT: here is the summery: i need to reduce max connections preferably system wide on Ubuntu 11.04 but at least within Google Chrome. i do not need or want to throttle bandwidth, Verizon seems to only care about the number of connections so that is all i want to change. also, i don't want to use firefox unless i have to, i have three other machines all using chrome and synced and i just prefer it over firefox. i use tethering for my home internet connection via my verizon cell phone. without paying for it. this works just fine for streaming netflix via my nintendo wii and pretty much every other conceivable use ive had for it. except, during heavy usage with multiple tabs open on my laptop, the network connection on my phone will just turn off, then on again, then off, but it never fully connects. i think, based on this and other questions that this is caused by verizon getting too many http requests from my phone. is there some software, script, setting or otherwise that would allow me to throttle my requests to say, 5 or 10 or whatever it turns out is 1 less than verizon is looking for, so that my cell's network connection is not lost? i would far prefer a slow down rather than complete shut off of my internet connection. i am almost certain is from quantity of requests and not related to data, because, as i mentioned, netflix will run all day without a hitch, and that uses more data than anything else i would be doing. if i had a router i am pretty sure there are settings i could easily change to only allow so many requests at a time ... but in this case, my phone is my router, so no settings. im using ubuntu 11.04 on my netbook with an htc incredible on verizon (not that the phone details are relevant) i have been trying to figure this out for quite some time, currently the only fix is ensure that all requests are stopped and then sometimes it works again, other times i have to manually turn my 3g service off and then back on. thank you so much for any assistance!

  Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/MOSSLover/archive/2014/06/12/what-ive-gained-from-being-a-presenter-at-tech-events.aspxI know I fail at blogging lately.  As I've said before life happens and it gets in the way of best laid out plans.  I thought about creating some type of watch with some app that basically dictates using dragon naturally speaking to Wordpress, but alas no time and the write processing capabilities just don't exist yet.So to get to my point Alison Gianotto created this blog post: http://www.snipe.net/2014/06/why-you-should-stop-stalling-and-start-presenting/.  I like the message she has stated in this post and I want to share something personal.It was around 2007 that I was seriously looking into leaving the technology field altogether and going back to school.  I was calling places like Washington University in Saint Louis and University of Missouri Kansas City asking them how I could go about getting into some type of post graduate medical school program.  My entire high school career was based on Medical Explorers and somehow becoming a doctor.  I did not want to take my hobby and continue using it as a career mechanism.  I was unhappy, but I didn't realize why I was unhappy at the time.  It was really a lot of bad things involving the lack of self confidence and self esteem.  Overall I was not in a good place and it took me until 2011 to realize that I still was not in a good place in life.So in about April 2007 or so I started this blog that you guys have been reading or occasionally read.  I kind of started passively stalking people by reading their blogs in the SharePoint and .Net communities.  I also started listening to .Net Rocks & watching videos on their corresponding training for SharePoint, WCF, WF, and a bunch of other technologies.  I wanted more knowledge, so someone suggested I go to a user group.  I've told this story before about how I met Jeff Julian & John Alexander, so that point I will spare you the details.  You know how I got to my first user group presentation and how I started getting involved with events, so I'll also spare those details.The point I want to touch on is that I went out I started speaking and that path I took helped me gain the self confidence and self respect I needed.  When I first moved to NYC I couldn't even ride a subway by myself or walk alone without getting lost.  Now I feel like I can go out and solve any problem someone throws at me.  So you see what Alison states in her blog post is true and I am a great example to that point.  I stood in front of 800 or so people at SharePoint Conference in 2011 and spoke about a topic.  In 2007 I would have hidden or stuttered the entire time.  I have now spoken at over 70 events and user groups.  I am a top 25 influencer in my technology.  I was a most valued professional for years in a row in Microsoft SharePoint.  People are constantly trying to gain my time, so that they can pick my brain for solutions and other life problems.  I went from maybe five or six friends to over hundreds of friends in various cities across the globe.  I'm not saying it's an instant fame and it doesn't take a ton of work, but I have never looked back once at my life and regretted the choice I made in 2007.  It has lead me to a lot of other things in my life, including more positivity and happiness.  If anyone ever wants to contact me and pick my brain on a presentation go ahead.  If you want me to help you find the best meetup that suits you for that presentation I can try to help too (I might be a little more helpful in the Microsoft or iOS arenas though).  The best thing I can state is don't be scared just do it.  If you need an audience I can try to pencil it in my schedule.  I can't promise anything, but if you are in NYC I can at least try.

• Listview Swipe inside viewflipper

  Im trying to swipe left and right on a listview and get the viewflipper to swtich. Just like the remeberthemilk app and the default news and weather app on the nexus one (Swiping through news topics). I have a window, with a bindable usercontrol <UserControl Content="{Binding Path = BindingControl, UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged}"> I have two user controls, ControlA, and ControlB, Both UserControls have their own Datacontext ViewModel, ControlAViewModel and ControlBViewModel. Both ControlAViewModel and ControlBViewModel inh. from a "ViewModelBase" public abstract class ViewModelBase : DependencyObject, INotifyPropertyChanged, IDisposable........ Main window was added to IoC... To set the property of the Bindable UC, i do ComponentRepository.Resolve<MainViewWindow>().Bindingcontrol= new ControlA; ControlA, in its Datacontext, creates a DispatcherTimer, to do "somestuff".. Later on., I need to navigate elsewhere, so the other usercontrol is loaded into the container ComponentRepository.Resolve<MainViewWindow>().Bindingcontrol= new ControlB If i put a break point in the "someStuff" that was in ControlA's datacontext. The DispatcherTimer is still running... i.e. loading a new usercontrol into the bindable Usercontrol on mainwindow does not dispose/close/GC the DispatcherTimer that was created in the DataContext View Model... Ive looked around, and as stated by others, dispose doesnt get called because its not supposed to... :) Not all my usercontrols have DispatcherTimer, just a few that need to do some sort of "read and refresh" updates./. Should i track these DispatcherTimer objects in the ViewModelBase that all Usercontrols inh. and manually stop/dispose them everytime a new usercontrol is loaded? Is there a better way?

• Server socket programming in Android 1.5, most power efficient way?

  Hello people, I am doing a project where I have too develop an application that listens for incoming events by a service. The device that has to listen too events is an Android phone with Android SDK 1.5 on it. Currently the services that call events only implement communication trough UDP or TCP sockets. I can solve my problem by setting up a ServerSocket, but i doubt that's the most power efficient way. This application will be running most of the time, with Wi-Fi on, and I'd like too reach an long battery duration. I've been looking for options on the internet for my question for a while but i couldn't get a real answer. I've got the following questions: What is the most efficient way too listen to incoming events? Should I make an ServerSocket? or what are my options? Are there any other implementations that are more power efficient? Ive been also thinking of implementing communication trough XMPP. Not sure if this is the best way. I'm not forced too an specific implementation. All suggestions are welcome! Thanks for the help, Antek

I created a MyComponent.dll assembly with deploytool from MATLAB 2010a, target framework - 3.5. I added references to MWArray.dll, WebFiguresService.dll and MyComponent.dll. But when I`m trying to deploy webfigure on my local iis 7.5 which runs on Win7 x32 - iis app pool crashes. There is an entry in System Event Log "A process serving application pool 'Classic .NET AppPool' suffered a fatal communication error with the Windows Process Activation Service. The process id was '3676'. The data field contains the error number 6D000780". This happens when MyComponent is instantiating. What I could forget when moved to IIS? Other examples, like magic square console application, runs perfect, and every matlab component instantiating, but not in IIS environment.

  Hi, So I am using Zend frameworks Gdata extension to parse xml data from google base. http://framework.zend.com/manual/en/zend.gdata.gbase.html Working fine minus one damn important thing I cant seem to parse, the link to the actual page, because there are two elements and its returned as an array. Anyways Ive tried vardumping the array but what comes out didnt help me figure out what was going on any better. So heres the specifics of the issue. echo $entry->title->text."<br />".$entry->id->text."<br />".$entry->content->text."<br />".$entry->author[0]->name."<br />"; (the above code works fine). Now according to the documentation I thought I could get the link href by going $entry-link-text or $entry-link-url (tried both, neither worked). • Core Animation problem on iPhone

  I'm new to iPhone development, and doing some experimentation with Core Animation. I've run into a small problem regarding the duration of the animation I'm attempting. Basically, Ive got a view with two subviews, and I'm trying to animate their opacity so that one fades in while the other fades out. Problem is, instead of a gradual fade in/out, the subviews simply switch instantly to/from full/zero opacity. I've tried to adjust the animation duration with CATransaction with no noticable effect. It's also not specific to animating opacity - animating position shows the same problem. The code I'm using (inside a method of the superview) follows: CALayer* oldLayer = ((UIView*) [[self subviews] objectAtIndex:0]).layer; CALayer* newLayer = ((UIView*) [[self subviews] objectAtIndex:1]).layer; [CATransaction begin]; [CATransaction setAnimationDuration:1.0f]; oldLayer.opacity = 0.0; newLayer.opacity = 1.0; [CATransaction commit]; Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be?

I can fix the problem with javascript where I measure out the contentcolumn height and set the same height on my rightcolumm.
