• Ubuntu 13.10 - Black screen after logging in after installing nVidia drivers

  I recently installed Ubuntu 13.10 in a dual-boot with Windows 7, so I'm still quite new to using Linux. Most things were working fine, and I could log in normally (apart from the first login after install, which spent about 2 minutes on a black screen before going to the desktop). I installed the restricted Nvidia drivers with the command: sudo apt-get install nvidia-current Since then, after I enter my password and log in (the login screen itself works perfectly), I get a black screen with the cursor and nothing happens from that point onwards. Basically, what I would like to know is how to get back to the normal Ubuntu desktop and (hopefully) still be able to use Nvidia drivers.

• No useful DVB-T card found

  I am using Ubuntu 12.04 3.2.0-26 kernel and I just added a DVB-T card. I did install the media_build as in (http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_Obtain,_Build_and_Install_V4L-DVB_Device_Drivers) After that the Restricted Drivers appeared on the screen and I installed the Firmware for DVB Cards. lsusb shows Bus 002 Device 005: ID 048d:9005 Integrated Technology Express, Inc. which is my card. lsmod shows these things regarding dvb dvb_usb_it913x 22173 0 dvb_usb 32369 1 dvb_usb_it913x dvb_core 110010 1 dvb_usb rc_core 26343 2 dvb_usb_it913x,dvb_usb Nevertheless there is no /dev/dvb on my linux and Kaffeine does not find the TV turner. Can anybody help me installing my TV Card? Thanks

  This is the message I get when I try to rip a cd from any player. I usually use the stock Rhythmbox but have tried others to no avail. I have just updated to 12.10 from 12.04 and I had no problems in 12.04. I have read the other posts and have switched to the Main Server in the Software Sources menu. I have installed Ubuntu Restricted Extras. Nothing seems to help. I would appreciate any help. • Calculating angle between 2 vectors

  I am working on some movement AI where there are no obstacles and movement is restricted to the XY plane. I am calculating 2 vectors: v - the direction of ship 1 w - the vector pointing from the position of ship 1 to ship 2 I am then calculating the angle between these two vectors using the standard formula: arccos( v . w / ( |v| |w| ) ) The problem I'm having is the nature of arccos only returning values between 0 and 180. This makes it impossible to determine whether I should turn left or right to face the other ship. Is there a better way to do this?

• Oh Unity Launcher scrambled with color dots after log on or restart

  The left hand side Unity launch bar is color scrambled after reboot, or log on. When touching it with the mouse arrow, it comes back to normal. I installed gnome shell color before this started happening. I will uninstall gnome shell color & see if this problem goes away. Any one ever see this happen. I run a Nvidia 550ti ge-force graphic card. I have the latest 295.33 driver from Nvidia installed and it does show activated in my restricted driver window. Oh yeah, before you inform me, I can tell you that yes, I do see the instructions to report bugs to the correct source. But I really don't know if this is a bug or not. Could be something else.

  I'm attempting too develop a 3rd party application to make it easy to import 3d model part's into my mod for skyrim the plan was to have a fileviewer and preview window of the nif model but since , I don't know what the NIF file format actually is or where to get the vertex data from it or the hole nine yards of parsing a text file in detail I'm at a lost what to do. I'm very good at C++ but not at this super over complicated file formats , id much prefer .obj over the nif file format specification here -- http://niftools.sourceforge.net/doc/nif/index.html If someone could help me in understanding the file format in a natural and simple way and the exact parsing needed to create the 3D Model in the frustum and a explanation on how you figured that out would be happy to know.   I am about to design a video conversion service, that is scalable on the conversion side. The architecture is as follows: Webpage for video upload When done, a message gets sent out to one of several resizing servers The server locates the video, saves it on disk, and converts it to several formats and resolutions The resizing server uploads the output to a content server, and messages back that the conversion is done. Messaging is something I have covered, but right now I am transferring via FTP, and wonder if there is a better way? is there something faster, or more reliable? All the servers will be sitting in the same gigabit switch or neighboring switch, so fast transfer is expected.

  Our site currently is going to require our users to download a player to view videos they will want to view on our site. The videos get uploaded by users from various sources (smartphones in 3gp format for example). However most people have Flash on their machines. I am trying to 'make a gentle stand' and tell the team that requiring a download of a video player is not acceptable. My thinking is this: instead of allowing people to upload 3gp and other formats then re-serving the exact format on REQUESTs from our site's users we will instead use a video converter such as FFMpeg to convert every uploaded video to FLV for viewing on flash. so when a user requests to view one of the videos on our site -- boom they probably already have Flash installed so we just play the video in their Flash player. I feel serving up FLV flash video is best. Does it ring true that requiring, say, a 3gp player download just to view a video is the wrong approach?

  I hope this question is not regarded as a duplicate of Does someone know why the Chromium daily package isn't build anymore? because that question relates to daily builds and not to "stable" Chromium available from the Software Center. So what are the technical difficulties that the Chromium team is facing? A very similar question has been asked in Default Browser Follow-up. I would very much to have an updated Chromium stable on my system. Also, is the problem of building Chromium restricted to 32-bit versions? (I have a 64-bit CPU but just 4 GB RAM and so I'm staying with 32-bit all the way.) I'm asking this partly in the light of the discussions, here for example, about having Chromium as the default web browser in future releases.

• Installed nvidia graphics driver (current, 8800GTX) has issues, how do I disable/uninstall it?

  I installed the restricted nvidia graphics driver (current) on my computer, then restarted to finish the install. Upon reboot I got some prompt about there being an X server problem, It told me to try auto-fixing or something, none of its options worked, they all failed horribly and caused the computer to crash immediately on selecting any of them. I decided to re-install. Again I got in, downloaded updates, and installed the driver. This time upon boot the X-server immediately crashes and im brought to tty1. If I hit ctrl+alt+F7 I see a beige-background prompt says the usual about checking battery state, pulse audio etc., you see right before the x-server starts. According to X (if I do sudo startx) there are no displays, and the nvidia graphics driver is not working. First off, how do I set ubuntu back to the default driver (I have only a CLI right now -.-), then how do I install a more appropriate nvidia driver

  I have to present an assessment for my Uni course in the form of a DVD movie (so it can be played on a DVD player) but so far, Brasero doesn't seem to be doing it. For example, I left it for over an hour today (as it said it was burning) and the DVD came out empty. Other times, it flat out says it cannot burn the DVD. I am running Ubuntu 10.10, I have ubuntu restricted extras installed and the Medibuntu packages that allow me to watch DVDs. Any ideas?

Most of the time their content is something useless as ERROR!!! x does not work without much more information. For resolving the issue I have to request every single detail of them, which often is more time consuming than fixing the issue itself. Other send information in formats which are not ideal, like screenshots (of data records, not of errors) although they could send a link (we have access to the systems) and so on. • ubuntu 12.04: Why my laptop is consuming more power than 11.10?

  I had 11.10 X86 on my Asus laptop (sandybridge, Nvidia 520M). I had 8 hours' battery life with Bumblebee and Jupiter. Average battery discharge rate was around 10w. Later I changed, not upgraded, to 12.04.1 AMD64. I installed Jupiter. But there is no "restricted drivers" available so I guess Bumblebee will not work. So I removed nvidia drivers. Now I only get 4 hours' battery life. Average battery discharge rate is around 19w. The removal of nvidia driver did not make any difference. What's the cause? Nvidia video card not disabled or 64b version of Ubuntu?

• If C-Panel Indexing Manager sets a folder to "No Indexing" can it be crawled by a webcrawler?

  People are able to view directories / folders on my site right now. So, they could go to mysite.com/images and see the full index. To prevent this, C-Panel offers an option to set a directory / folder to "No Indexing" under the "Index Manager." Will this option allow webcrawlers to crawl / index the images? Or, is there a simpler alternative to block access to all folders directly while still having it SEO friendly? My old server restricted direct access to folders by default. But, the new one does not. Any ideas on this? Thanks!
