    Hi guys, I'm trying to install feedzirra. When i install curb on my netbeans i get following errors. Building native extensions. This could take a while... ERROR: Error installing curb-0.7.6.gem: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.     Hi, I was trying to run an OpenSource project which requires ferret to be installed. While installing it using gem install ferret, it's giving this error - Building native extensions. Results logged to C:/Ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ferret-0.11.6/ext/gem_make.out So, I tried installing nmake (nmake15.exe), but the one I could find. It does not installs on Windows 7.Please help.     I'm trying to put some specs around a new rails 3 project I am working on, and my first test doesn't seem to be able to find a model. An example file-name includes "íéó" in some kind of Windows 7 file-system encoding. Ive tried many combinations of gsub and ActiveSupport::Multibyte::Chars. Thanks for the help

  • Ruby / rubyzip alternative capable of handling rar/tar/zip/7z?

    I was wondering if anyone knows of rubyzip alternatives for Ruby, that can handle various formats in particular zip / rar / 7z? I know of libarchive, but it's not complete for my purposes ( it's a good gem thou). (To clarify, libarchive - won't work for me - cause I need to be able to run in on Windows. ( Yeah I know sucks to be me)) Right now I end up running system commands to the os, but I'd like something OS independent, and capable of handling those formats - reading and writing. Thank you

  • Is it possible to bind arrays of literals in sqlite3-ruby?

    I'd like to execute the following sort of query through sqlite3-ruby: SELECT * FROM foo WHERE bar IN (:items) and bind :items to one or many literals. Is this possible? The obvious technique of passing the list of literals as an array as follows doesn't seem to work: db.execute("SELECT * FROM foo WHERE bar IN (:items)", :items=>[3,1]) (In the above example, only the first value in the array is bound to :items.)

    We're convincing our Products officer that we want to use JRuby on Rails, and we're having a hard time coming up with some statistics which show that: Coding time is less using Rails vs. say Struts or Zend Framework or what have you. Ruby (and JRuby in particular) performance isn't horrible (anymore). Rails performance isn't bad either. If you can get us some good stats quickly, we might have a chance!

This happens amply in Rails, for instance: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :posts end What exactly does this do (at a lower level than "it adds some methods to the class")? How would I implement such a function (e.g., one that mixes in some additional methods)?

The only thing holding me back to PHP is that it's what I have learned to work with for some while now and the development is quite rapid. Log files can get quite large, so I've already tried and ruled out the IO.readlines("log_file.log")[-200..-1] method. Are there any other ways to go about reading a file backwards in Ruby without the need for a plugin or gem?

  • What is the best OS for a server hosting a simple Ruby on Rails based pastebin

    I have created a simple pastebin in Ruby on Rails and Python. I want to host it in an intranet and it will have like about 1000 users. I want to use one Apache server with a cluster of Mongrel servers. The server itself is a 2 GHz Intel Centrino with 2 GB RAM. What do you think is the best OS to host this? I thought about Damn Small Linux or a custom LFS system. Ubuntu servers come with loads of stuff I don't need. Maybe there are some better OSes? It must be capable of: Running Apache Running Ruby Running Python Running Mongrel with Ruby on Rails SSH Can anyone reccomend me one? Thanks. PS: I am not going to run Windows Server or Mac OS X Server (Mac's are expensive).

I am trying to configure ROR to use apache and mysql so that I do not have to install additional servers to run ruby on rails. I also tried InstantRails but faced same problems. I went through the tutorial mentioned in getting rails to wrok on a windows machine running xampp and did all the steps which were necessary. All went fine (installing rails, running the ruby, gem and rails command from command prompt) but when I tried to run my application by typing localhost:3000/say/hello nothing happened and I was redirected to the google page for searching to this keyword. Please help me Thanks
