• qx.ui.table.Table hangs my browser...

  Hi all, I have a strange bug. I create a qx.ui.table.Table and if not all specified columns fit into window (horizontal scroll appear) my browsers (firefox 3.5.6 and chrome 5.0.344) hangs. If i just set width for window large (e.g. from 600px to 800px) - all works fine. May be I'm doing something wrong? Or how can I fix/avoid this 'strange' behaviour?

• SQLAuthority News – Wireless Router Security and Attached Devices – Complex Password

  In the last four days (April 21-24), I have received calls from friends who told me that they have got strange emails from me. To my surprise, I did not send them any emails. I was not worried until my wife complained that she was not able to find one of the very important folders containing our daughter’s photo that is located in our shared drive. This was alarming in my par, so I started a search around my computer’s folders. Again, please note that I am by no means a security expert. I checked my entire computer with virus and spyware, and strangely, there I found nothing. I tried to think what can cause this happening. I suddenly realized that there was a power outage in my area for about two hours during the days I have mentioned. Back then, my wireless router needed to be reset, and so I did. I had set up my WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] very well. My key was very simple ( ‘SQLAuthority1′), and I never thought of changing it. (It is now replaced with a very complex one). While checking the Attached Devices, I found out that there was another very strange computer name and IP attached to my network. And so as soon as I found out that there is strange device attached to my computer, I shutdown my local network. Afterwards, I reconfigured my wireless router with a more complex security key. Since I created the complex password, I noticed that the user is no more connecting to my machine. Subsequently, I figured out that I can also set up Access Control List. I added my networked computer to that list as well. When I tried to connect from an external laptop which was not in the list but with a valid security key, I was not able to access the network, neither able to connect to it. I wasn’t also able to connect using a remote desktop, so I think it was good. If you have received any nasty emails from me (from my gmail account) during the afore-mentioned days, I want to apologize. I am already paying for my negligence of not putting a complex password; by way of losing the important photos of my daughter. I have already checked with my client, whose password I saved in SSMS, so there was no issue at all. In fact, I have decided to never leave any saved password of production server in my SSMS. Here is the tip SQL SERVER – Clear Drop Down List of Recent Connection From SQL Server Management Studio to clean them. I think after doing all this, I am feeling safe right now. However, I believe that safety is an illusion of many times. I need your help and advice if there is anymore I can do to stop unauthorized access. I am seeking advice and help through your comments. • System.Dynamic bug?

  While I playing with the C# 4.0 dynamic, I found strange things happening with the code like this: using System.Dynamic; sealed class Foo : DynamicObject { public override bool TryInvoke( InvokeBinder binder, object[] args, out object result) { result = new object(); return true; } static void Main() { dynamic foo = new Foo(); var t1 = foo(0); var t2 = foo(0); var t3 = foo(0); var t4 = foo(0); var t5 = foo(0); } } Ok, it works but... take a look at IntelliTrace window: So every invokation (and other operations too on dynamic object) causes throwing and catching strange exceptions twice! I understand, that sometimes exceptions mechanism may be used for optimizations, for example first call to dynamic may be performed to some stub delegate, that simply throws exception - this may be like a signal to dynamic binder to resolve an correct member and re-point delegate. Next call to the same delegate will be performed without any checks. But... behavior of the code above looks very strange. Maybe throwing and catching exceptions twice per any operation on DynamicObject - is a bug?

• Sorting an array of Doubles with NaN in it

  This is more of a 'Can you explain this' type of question than it is anything else. I came across a problem at work where we were using NaN values in a table, but when the table was sorted, it came out in a very strange, strange manner. I figured NaN was mucking up something so I wrote up a test application to see if this is true. This is what I did. static void Main(string[] args) { double[] someArray = { 4.0, 2.0, double.NaN, 1.0, 5.0, 3.0, double.NaN, 10.0, 9.0, 8.0 }; foreach (double db in someArray) { Console.WriteLine(db); } Array.Sort(someArray); Console.WriteLine("\n\n"); foreach (double db in someArray) { Console.WriteLine(db); } Console.ReadLine(); } Which gave the result: Before: 4,2,NaN,1,5,3,NaN,10,9,8 After: 1,4,NaN,2,3,5,8,9,10,NaN So yes, the NaN some how made the sorted array to be sorted in a strange way. • django html/css windows mac problem width additional space on the top of the page

  Hi, my problem is really strange... We are developing shopping-cart system in django. The problem is, when I change anything even single letter on my computer, strange space on the top of the page appears, see the picture... I don't know since when the problem appears. But if i go back to previous version (in this case 210, we use svn), everything is ok, until i change something. I'm using windows 7 and i tried to edit this file in notepad, notepad++, e and so on... In the case when my friend changes something in this 210 version on Macbook everything is ok. Have anyone any ideas? Also in source code of the page strange "-" is added before doctype, but it is only visible in chrome. But the problem is for all browsers...! what is more... for example my home page extends, categories.html and base.html, and in this case a have two "--". • Why is my view controllers view not quadratic?

  I created an UIViewController subclass, and figured out that the default implementation of -loadView in UIViewController will ignore my frame size settings in a strange way. To simplify it and to make sure it's really not the fault of my code, I did a clean test with a plain instance of UIViewController directly, rather than making a subclass. The result is the same. I try to make an exactly quadratic view of 320 x 320, but the view appears like 320 x 200. iPhone OS 3.0, please check this out: UIViewController *ts = [[UIViewController alloc] initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil]; ts.view.frame = CGRectMake(0.0f, 0.0f, 320.0f, 320.0f); ts.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor cyanColor]; [self.view addSubview:ts.view]; like you can see, I do this: 1) Create a UIViewController instance 2) Set the frame of the view to a quadratic dimension of 320 x 320 3) Give it a color, so I can see it 4) Added it as a subview. Now the part, that's even more strange: When I make my own implementation of -loadView, i.e. if I put this code in there like this: - (void)loadView { UIView *v = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0f, 0.0f, 320.0f, 320.0f)]; v.backgroundColor = [UIColor cyanColor]; self.view = v; [v release]; } then it looks right. Now lets think about that: In the first example, I do pretty much exactly the same, just that I let UIViewController create the view on it's own, and then take it over in order to change it's frame. Right? So why do I get this strange error? Right now I see no other way of messing around like that to correct this wrong behavior. I did not activate anything like clipsToBounds and there's no other code touching this.

I followed some online tutorial and have done these: sudo mkdir /media/FAT32 sudo chmod 777 /media/FAT32 sudo mount /dev/sda6/ /media/FAT32 after I mounted the file, I can only read but not be able to write to it. I checked the file permission, it becomes: drwxr-xr-x but after I unmounted the it then becomes drwxrwxrwx and I can read and write to it. very strange. I don't know where I've down wrong. Cheers.

• Logfiles go blank after logrotate rotates them.

  I have an ubuntu 8.04 LTS server that runs openvpn. The openvpn server writes to a standard logfile under /var/log and prior to a month ago logrotate would automatically rotate the files and compress them. The files are still being rotated however the new logfile (ovpn.log) is empty. Restarting the openvpn daemon fixes the issue (ie: openvpn writes status events to the file) but after about 10 days the file is rotated again openvpn can't write to the logfile again. This is also strange because logrotate is set to rotate every 6 months. Openvpn runs as nobody and the logfiles are owned by root and admin which is strange because it should either work at all times or not work at all if the permissions are the cause, unless openvpn runs as root temporarily and then drops down to nobody after initializing ?

• Windows 7 Default Gateway problem

  Hi, I have a strange problem (or at least seems strange to me) the below are IP configurations for two laptops on my home network which consists of a main router 192.168.11.1 and a connected wireless router (i know this can cause problems but has always worked until I got the win7 machine) at 192.168.11.2 with DHCP disabled. Laptop 1 - Win XP IP: Dynamically assigned by main router default gateway: 192.168.11.1 (main router) This machine gets perfect connectivity. Laptop 2 - Win7 IP: dynamically assigned by main router Default Gateway: 192.168.11.2 THIS IS THE PROBLEM... I cannot seem to get this machine to default to the main router for the gateway UNLESS I go to a static configuration which I would rather not do since I regularly go between my home and public networks. Why is my Win7 machine not finding the main gateway the same way that the other laptop is? I believe that the rest of my setup is fine as it has always worked and it works perfectly when set as static ip and gateway. Please help! Thanks

• Diagnose Issues with USB External Hard Drive

  I have a 1TB SATA hard drive in a third-party USB enclosure hooked up to my computer via USB. The drive has become increasingly unreliable, randomly unmounting and remounting in Windows, making strange noises on occasion, and every once in a while making lots of noise and then unmounting, only fixable by powering down the enclosure, waiting a while, then powering it back up again. I am unsure if the hard drive or the enclosure is to blame. The random unmount/remount could be the enclosure, but the strange sounds are likely related to the hard drive. Given this uncertainty, I want to figure out which of the two items needs to be replaced. However, I do not know of a way to test each item separately since I do not have an extra SATA-to-USB enclosure to test the hard drive with or an extra SATA hard drive to test the enclosure with. Does anyone know how to figure out what's to blame so that I don't have to replace both unless it is absolutely necessary.

• Firefox Start page stay white

  Hi, I'm a Firefox user since several years so I know it but today I had a strange problem. I installed the last stable version of Firefox (3.5.5) on a computer but when I launch the browser the page stay empty (blank). In the settings I set the startpage as Google but nothing to do. When the browser starts in the address bar it is well written google.com but the page remains blank. I must click on the button in the address bar so that the site appears. I've never had this problem with Firefox, it's strange. Thanks

• Won`'t read Unicode characters over NFS mount ?

  Hello, I'm getting this strange issue when trying to play mp3's containing unicode characters ( accents ) over an NFS on OSX, it's all good over AFP, but I'm setup with NFS because it's a linux server on the other end . This is my disk utility setup : nfs://192.168.1.112/Music advanced mount parameters : -P , nolocks nosuid The strange thing is that I can see those files in the finder ( with the accents .. ) but I cant play them !! So Im wondering if it's an unicode issue, since I can see the files properly or a permission issue since I can't play them, but them it wouldn`t make sense that I can't play ONLY the files containing accents .. help ?? • How do I fix "Library not loaded: libssl.1.0.0.dylib" with PostgreSQL?

  After deleting Macports, I've had some strange behaviour. When I try to run PostgreSQL via CLI, I get: pawel:~ pawel$ psql dyld: Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libssl.1.0.0.dylib Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/psql Reason: image not found Trace/BPT trap This is strange because I've installed Postgresql through Homebrew and running brew list confirms that it's there. How would I get psql to work again? Additionally, trying to install the pg gem fails due to an file not found: /opt/local/lib/libssl.1.0.0.dylib error. I need to make Postgres not look in the /opt/local/ directory for this file.

• Can't access Administrator account on Windows XP after adding local user account

  I have an installation of windows XP, and it's not part of a domain. Previously, it just had only the administrator account, and upon creating a different user account, all access was lost to the administrator account. When the machine starts up, only the new local account is offered for login, which seemed strange. I've checked that the administrator account was not disabled, nor are any rights missing from the local security policy. Furthermore, the administrator account is accessible via remote desktop, where an opportunity is given to type the desired account. REALLY strange. Upon deletion of the new local user account, the administrator account appeared again. Can anyone tell me what's going on?

• Storage (EBS) attached to my EC2 instance reporting files on two devices at once

  I have on EC2 instance with two attached EBS drives. One drive /dev/sda1 is mounted on / The second /dev/sda2 is mounted on /var2 So here's what's strange. Whenever I add any files to /var2 the it is also reporting that the / device is also filling up. As if they are the same device. It's so strange. So if I were to save a 10 mb file to a directory on /var2. Both / and /var2 use 10 mb of space up. Is this bizarre?

• Weird graphical artefacts on OS X Snow Leopard.

  Since a couple of days I experience some strange graphical artefacts on Snow Leopard. Usually after a certain uptime, the background image would show some strange colours at some place. This could be reverted by reloading the background image. But the problem would appear again after rebooting (and waiting for an indefinite time). Sometimes, the shadow of windows would also have some artefacts; and this time the application switcher is completely distorted. Any ideas where I need to search for a solution of the problem? Edit: Model: MacBook Gen. 3.1 / all updates installed Update: After not having used Safari for a while, the problem has not occurred anymore (at least not after 20 days of uptime). Could well be that the problem had its origin in Safari or a Safari-related plugin. (Possibly Flash or Click-to-Flash as it did not happen with both deactivated, though the running time with this configuration might have been to short to be of any validity.)

• VirtuaWin shows Visual Studio 2010 in all Desktops

  I'm using VirtuaWin in Windows 7 to have virtual desktop functionality and I think this program is awesome. There's one small issue, though: on the computer at work, when moving to another desktop it hides all windows in the current desktop, except any windows of Visual Studio 2010. This means that VS 2010 shows up in all desktops, while for all other windows, VirtuaWin applies the correct behavior. The strange thing is that this issue happens on one computer only; on the others I have it works OK. I have checked the Window Rules section and nothing seems strange in there. Is anyone else experiencing this kind of problem? Any ideas on how to solve it?

  I have strange problem with my almost new laptop. Aftear I leave it turned on for some hours and back to use it, it was printing something like ^[[2~ on the screen and I cannot stop it. After rebooting it did not show any activity. After few hours I managed to turn it on by hiting random keys at keyboard. I starts that way but I have to use external keyboard to type anything. When I randomly stroke the keys when is turned on, it sometimes print that unrecognised characters. It works the same way at linux and windows (ubuntu, windows 7). What can be the reason it started to work so strange and is there anyway to fix it without sending it to warranty and waiting few weeks? :/ I dont remember to make it wet, but they may be something like cigaretes ashes in it, I could not remember...

Once I needed the 8GB stick for another purposes so I thought about coyping it to my desktop doing from mac os x: dd if=/dev/disks3s of=/Users/jack/Desktop/usb_copy Now I am trying to do the opposite, after having used the stick, which was formatted to NTFS, just doing dd if=/Users/jack/Desktop/usb_copy of=/dev/disks3s but although I can see that almost of the files are there, I can not boot again. IT is also strange the the file permissions are kind of strange, something like _user What can I do ? Thanks

• Eliminating "phantom" or "ghost" clicks on my Mac Pro

  Recently on my Mac Pro I have been experiencing phantom clicks and other strange behaviors. I have been rummaging through my system preferences to try and root out possible causes, and recently came across a strange finding in the Exposé panel (the keyboard modifiers are there from my taking the screenshot): I have had a Logitech 2-button mouse with a mouse wheel for years, and have never had a problem with it in the past. In addition I am running OS X 10.6.8 and have not had any issues like this up to this point. Is this a known issue? Is the extensive mouse listing a red herring? Are there any fixes for either issue?

• Windows 7 trying to turn off UAC every time Windows starts

  I have strange problem on my HP laptop. This began to happen recently. Whenever I start my machine, Windows 7 Action Center displays the following warning: You need to restart your computer for UAC to be turned off. I never disable UAC, but obviously some process or virus (I'm not sure, only guessing) causes this. As soon as I get this warning, I head for the UAC settings, and re-enable UAC to dismiss this warning. This is a bothersome situation as I really don't know what causes the problem. I have run a full scan on the computer for any probable virus activity, but TrendMicro OfficeScan said that no viruses have been found. There are no other strange incidents on the machine. Everthing works fine except this bizarre incident. How can I learn what process is trying to turn off UAC? What way should I follow to overcome this problem?

• Is there a way to enable metro on a 1024x600 netbook?

  Windows 8 Consumer Preview works great on my 1024x600 netbook but, for some strange reason, Microsoft decided to provide its Metro interface only to 1024x768 and up screens. "Strange" because Android can work with as little as 240x320 screens, and I know that Microsoft is presumably targeting smartphones, too, in its upcoming Windows 8. The interface itself is there with all the panels etc. but when one of the rectangles is pressed, Windows 8 just refuses to launch any application (even Internet Explorer), except for Windows Explorer. Looks to me like this isn't a real hardware limitation but some arbitrary flag set in the registry. Is there any way or tweak to enable the Metro interface on 1024x600 screen?

• Cannot type backquote or backtick in xterm

  Ubuntu 10.10, XTerm(261), Keyboard layout = Canadian Somehow, the backquote (backtick = `) character can't be input does not get entered in XTerm. I type it and nothing happens. The cursor does not move forward. I know it works because I can input it in Terminal (gnome-terminal). The only strange thing is that I have to type the key twice for it to appear. Just to test it, I tried typing it in other applications, and the same thing happens. Have to type it twice in FF, gedit, etc. One more strange thing, I could not input it into this textbox in which I am typing this message. But I can input it in the URL bar, search bar, etc. Someone please help me solve this mystery. I like to use XTerm and I need the backquotes.

• Un-balanced network speed although using fiberoptic cable line

  I'm not sure this is a right place to ask this question, but there's a strange thing that I don't quite sure what the reason is. My company has hired a fiberoptic cable line for network use (Wifi and cable through a router). But the strange thing is that, whenever someone view YouTube or listen stream music, then network speed for all the others become extremely slow. The download speed for that person is about 4-5 MB/s (or more), but others suffer. I'm still a newbie about networking. But I know there should be a solution. Could anyone tell me a way to stop this bad behavior? It's not possible for asking people not viewing YouTube, since that's part of their jobs. Any insights about this problem would be very welcome.
