    Hi guys, do you have any idea on how to have getdate() function in enterprise postgresql? I upgraded to EDB-PSQL, and now when I tried to restore old data from the free PSQL, it returns error on some tables since there is no getdate(). I believe this should automatically be created upon creating new database? But it didn't. :( Only now() function. Can I create the function instead? Help!

    I have a situation where a block of code should be executed only if two locker objects are free. I was hoping there would be something like: lock(a,b) { // this scope is in critical region } However, there seems to be nothing like that. So does it mean the only way for doing this is: lock(a) { lock(b) { // this scope is in critical region } } Will this even work as expected? Although the code compiles, but I am not sure whether it would achieve what I am expecting it to.

However the hair pulling was so much that you'd never add it to your resume (even though it might sound impressive) for fear that a future employer might think your the ideal candidate to "migrate", "integrate" or otherwise work with "Application X". Feel free to elaborate on why... (e.g. their APIs change monthly, there is/was no API, etc.) (made into a community wiki)

As a last resort I'm willing to create them myself - a move that might make them (and my whole application) look amazingly bad.     Look at this ruby example: puts ["Dog","Cat","Gates"].1 This will output Cat as ruby allows me to directly access the "anonymous" array created. If I try this in PHP, however: echo array("Dog","Cat,"Gates")[1] This won't work. What is this called, not only concerning arrays but all functions? Where else is it possible? Feel free to change the question title when you know how this "feature" is called.
