• Relation between [[Prototype]] and prototype in JavaScript

This property is not directly accessible with scripts, but it is the chain of objects referred to with the internal [[prototype]] property that is used in property accessor resolution; the object's prototype chain. A public prototype property exists to allow the assignment, definition and manipulation of prototypes in association with the internal [[prototype]] property. The details of the relationship between to two are described in ECMA 262 (3rd edition) and are beyond the scope of this discussion. What are the details of the relationship between the two? I've browsed through ECMA 262 and all I've read there is stuff like: The constructor’s associated prototype can be referenced by the program expression constructor.prototype, Native ECMAScript objects have an internal property called [[Prototype]]. The value of this property is either null or an object and is used for implementing inheritance. Every built-in function and every built-in constructor has the Function prototype object, which is the initial value of the expression Function.prototype Every built-in prototype object has the Object prototype object, which is the initial value of the expression Object.prototype (15.3.2.1), as the value of its internal [[Prototype]] property, except the Object prototype object itself. From this all I gather is that the [[Prototype]] property is equivalent to the prototype property for pretty much any object. Am I mistaken?

• Rolemanager not working when ASPDotNetStorefront served in a virtual folder with FormsAuthentication

  Does anyone know if there is a valid roleManager I can apply to ASPDotNetStorefront to get the site working? We have a website that has an ASP.Net storefront served in a virtual folder off the root. ourwebsite.com ourwebsite.com/shop Everything has been workign fine until we put the groundwork in place for forms authentication in the website recently. This caused an error on the production server when you tried to get into the shop... Unable to cast object of type 'System.Web.Security.RolePrincipal' to type 'AspDotNetStorefrontCore.AspDotNetStorefrontPrincipal'. Looking at the shop's web.config I noticed there was no RoleManager node, so I tried to fix the problem by removing it in the shop's web.config <roleManager enabled="false"> </roleManager> This prevented the error occurring, but also prevented the shopping basket from working. Instead I removed the rolemanager tag from the root website... <!-- Conflicting with AspDotNetStorefront <roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="CustomizedRoleProvider"> <providers> <add name="CustomizedRoleProvider" type="System.Web.Security.SqlRoleProvider" connectionStringName="constr" /> </providers> </roleManager> --> This worked, but obviously prevents role authentication working on the root website, which is okay for the next 2 or 3 releases. Anyone know the correct code for the rolemanager in DotNetStorefront?

• Interoperability between Weblogic 10.3.1 and Oracle BPM 10.3.1

  Hi, Im migrating an ALBPM 6.5 running on a WLS 10.0 to an Oracle BPM 10.3.1 running on WLS 10.3.1 I got some problems with the Oracle driver because the old driver (weblogic.jdbcx.oracle.OracleDataSource) was definitely removed from the server and is not longer supported. Instead I used the thin driver (oracle.jdbc.xa.OracleXADataSource), the database migration was executed succesfully but after that, when I try to deploy the engine ear in WebLogic I got exceptions asociated to the driver: [ (cont) ] Main: Caused by: weblogic.application.ModuleException: [HTTP:101216]Servlet: "engineStartup" failed to preload on startup in Web application: "/albpmServices/albpm_engine". • Jar not found when executing class

  Hi there, I'm working through the ANTLR book and there are many examples that should be easy to compile using the command line. Some information to get te problem: antlr-3.2.jar contains the ANTLR classes. I added the antlr-3.2.jar to the CLASSPATH environment variable (Windows 7) and when compiling the classes with javac everything works fine. This is what i execute to compile my program: javac Test.java ExprLexer.java ExprParser.java Test.java contains my main()-method whereas ExprLexer and ExprParser are generated by ANTLR. All three classes use classes contained in the antlr-3.2.jar. But so far so good. As I just said, compiling works fine. It's when I try to execute the Test.class that I get trouble. This is what I type: java -cp ./ Test When executing this, the interpreter tells me that he can't find the ANTLR-classes contained in the antlr-3.2.jar, altough I added an entry in the CLASSPATH variable. But I don't want to type the jar-Archive everytime I execute my test programs. Is there a possibility to tell the interpreter that he should automatically look into the archive?

• How do you keep all your languages straight?

  I think I'm going a little crazy. Right now, I'm working with the following languages (I was just doing a mental inventory): C++ - our game engine Assembler - low level debugging and a few co-processor specific routines Lua - our game engine scripting language HLSL - for shaders Python - our build system and utility tools Objective C/C++ - game engine platform code for Mac and iPhone C# - A few tools developed in our overseas office ExtendScript - Photoshop exporting tools ActionScript - UI scripting VBScript - some spreadsheet related stuff PHP - some web related stuff SQL - some web and tool related stuff On top of this are the plethora of API's that often have many different ways of doing the same thing: std library, boost, .NET, wxWidgets, Cocoa, Carbon, native script libraries for Python, Lua, etc, OpenGL, Direct3d, GDI, Aqua, augh! I find myself inadvertently conflating languages and api's, not realizing what I'm doing until I get syntax errors. I feel like I can't possibly keep up with it, and I can't possibly be proficient in all of these areas. Especially outside the realm of C++ and Python, I find myself programming more by looking at manuals that from memory. Do you have a similar problem? Ideas for compartmentalizing so you're more efficient? Deciding where you want to stay proficient? Organizational tips? Good ways to remember when you switch from Lua to C++ you need to start using semi-colons again? Rants on how complicated we programmers have made things for ourselves? Any ideas welcome!

• Perf: Viewing thousands of images in Silverlight 3 on a 3D Wall

  I currently work on a very cool Silverlight app that displays photos in a 3D wall space like the Wall3D demo that is thrown in with Blend 3. The problem I am currently facing is performance. The app works like this: As you scroll right or left the 3d photo wall rotates As each movement is made, the next column of photos are downloaded, decoded into a BitmapImage and thrown into a 3D Wall Node. As you can imagine users (if you let them) will want to flip through the photos really quickly, but the problem I have is I cannot display the photos quick enough. In most cases it's a beautiful app that works really well, but when an album contains over 300 photos, you can imagine the sort of memory taken up by all the BitmapImage classes and how moving the slider can jump from photo 20 to photo 120 in a second. Of course we have algorithms in place to not download every photo in between, but I still can't work out a fast way to get the photos displayed. It may be a case that we need to throw away the 'great for show' 3D wall and go to a flat DeepZoom like wall like the Playboy archive one that Vertigo did. Still not sure, let me know your thoughts. P.S. We are using Kit3D for all the 3D work, it's using PerspectiveCamera, Model3DGroup, ModelVisual3D, RotateTransform3D & TranslateTransform3D. Cheers, Bob.

  I have a page which contains several divs (each with a unique ID and the same class, 'parent'). Underneath each "parent" div, is a div with class "child" and unique ID name -child. This DIV is upon page load empty. Whenever you click on a parent DIV, the following code is executed. $$('div.parent').each(function(s){ $(s).observe('click', function(event){ event.stop(); var filer = $(s).readAttribute('filer'); var currentElement = $(s).id; var childElement = currentElement + '-children'; new Ajax.Updater ({success: childElement}, root + '/filers/interfacechildren', { parameters: {parentId: currentElement, filer: filer} }); }); }); Of course, it's possible that a child node is again a parent ont its own. The response looks like this (Smarty with Zend Framework): {foreach from=$ifaces item=interface} <div id="{$interface->name}" filer="{$interface->system_id}" class="parent">{$interface->name}</div> <div id="{$interface->name}-children" class="child"></div> {/foreach} Whenever I click on a "parent" div that is loaded inside a child, nothing happens :( Any suggestions / fixes how to fix this?

• MySQL Connection Timeout Issue - Grails Application on Tomcat using Hibernate and ORM

  Hi Guys I have a small grails application running on Tomcat in Ubuntu on a VPS. I use MySql as my datastore and everything works fine unless I leave the application for more than half a day (8 hours?). I did some searching and apparently this is the default wait_timeout in mysql.cnf so after 8 hours the connection will die but Tomcat won't know so when the next user tries to view the site they will see the connection failure error. Refreshing the page will fix this but I want to get rid of the error altogether. For my version of MySql (5.0.75) I have only my.cnf and it doesn't contain such a parameter, In any case changing this parameter doesn't solve the problem. This Blog Post seems to be reporting a similar error but I still don't fully understand what I need to configure to get this fixed and also I am hoping that there is a simpler solution than another third party library. The machine I'm running on has 256MB ram and I'm trying to keep the number of programs/services running to a minimum. Is there something I can configure in Grails / Tomcat / MySql to get this to go away? I have seen references to precompiled queries, though I haven't seen many actual details. Also, as seen in the code, I am using CachedXPathAPI, though the benefit for this case is not so great. The closest I have come seems to be an old JDK bug with ipv6 support on XP and Vista machines (I'm running Vista). Recommendations included disabling ipv6 (that did not work) and disabling ipv4 and leaving ipv6 (will not work for me as my router and ISP don't support it and so could not test anyway). • File Translator to Export Animated 3D Character from Autodesk Maya as Quake MD2

  I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way to export geometry/textures for a rigged, animated character as Quake MD2? I’m developing an app for mobile devices, and I’ve found that MD2 works great for lightweight OpenGL rendering. I have several animated characters, and I’d like to export them as MD2 from Maya. Here are some of the things I have tried: Exporting FBX to 3D Studio Max and using the QTip plugin -- this works, but only if I convert my animation to point cache (pc2) and bring that into Max. When I do that, QTip plugin doesn’t honor the point cache node, and all I get is the model, no animation Exporting OBJ Sequence to Blender, exporting MD2 from there -- I can’t seem to get blender to compile the imported obj sequence into a single animated object Exporting FBX to Milkshape -- the maya rig gets corrupted in the process Bake point cache for animation, export to FBX, import to Milkshape -- again, Milkshape doesn’t honor the geometry cache, so all that appears is a static character. I’m currently writing a plugin for Maya using the blender MD2 export script as reference (but re-writing using the C++ Maya API), but I’m just wondering if anyone has done this before or has any suggestions of how to do this. Also, if anyone has other suggestions for the best format to render a single animated character on an OpenGL ES (Android or iPhone) device, I would be very grateful! • Implementing Autocompletion in iPhone UITextField for contacts in address book

  Hi, I would like to have a UITextField or UITextView in where as I do some input, alternatives will appear something similar to when you type an address in Mail Application, alternatives appear down and is possible tap them so get a better input user interface.(since there is no need to type the complete word or address or phone number) I do know how to fetch data from Address Book framework, also how to input text in UITextField/UITextView and its delegates but I don't know what kind of structure to use for fetching and showing data as the user do his/her input. I know basic CoreData if this matters, I hope I can get some help. UPDATE (2010/3/10): I don't have problem make a native-like GUI but I am asking about the algorithm, does any body knows what kind algorithm is best for this thing? maybe some binary tree? Or should I just fetch data from coredata everytime? Thanks Ignacio UPDATE (2010/03/28): I've been very busy these days, so I have not tried UISearchResults but it seems fine to me. • Opening a LWJGL window from a SWT app on Mac

  I have a SWT app that opens a OpenGL window (using the LWJGL library) after a button is pressed. Works fine on Windows. It looks like the SWT app doesn't shut down cleanly and leaves it's menu entries associated with it, which prevents the LWJGL window from opening. Mac OS X only wants one application menu. SWT doesn't free it's own menu and LWJGL wants to add another. Facts: A button in the SWT dialog is supposed to close the dialog and open a LWJGL window (org.lwjgl.opengl.Display). The button sets a static variable in the app to tell it what to do next after the SWT window is closed, so the LWJGL window is NOT being opened from a SWT callback directly. The button then closes the SWT window. I don't know the correct way of doing this but tried various combinations of shell.close, shell.dispose, display.close and display.dispose, none of them worked. They all close the window but the error occurs every time. Does anyone know what could be done to make this work?

Below are the stack I think could well suitable for this application type of application: GUI -- ASP.NET MVC, Flash (Flex) Business Services -- Thrift based services One of the advantage of using Thrift is to solve scaling problems that will come in future when the user base increases rapidly. All the business logic can be exposed as a services using REST,JSON etc., This also allows us to go with C++ or Erlang based services when situation demands. Database -- mySQL, CasSandara mySQL can be used for storing the data which needs to be persisted. Cassandara will be used for storing global identifiers to the persisted data. Since Cassandara is also very good at scaling by introducing more nodes this will leverage Thrift based services as well. And also there is native support between Cassandara and Thrift Cache Server -- Memcached Any requests from Business Services will only talk to Memcached if any non-dirty data is required, otherwise there will be some background jobs that will invalidate the cache from database. The question is: Is the Thrift which is open-sourced one is production-ready? Is it the right stack for services layer to choose when the application (GUI) is primarily gets developed in ASP.NET and DB is mysql? Is there any other caveats that anyone here experienced? One of the main objective behind this stack is to easily scale up with more nodes and also this helps us to use Linux boxes, it will reduce our cost significantly Thoughts please ..

• Process: Unable to start service com.google.android.gms.checkin.CheckinService with Intent

  I'm trying to build a Google map application but keep receiving this in my LogCat. I have all the permissions and meta-data set in my manifest, but am still dumbfounded by this error. Have looked everywhere on SO for this specific error but found nothing relating to com.google.android.gms.checkin A little bit about my structural hierarchy. MainActivity extends ActionBarActivity with three tabs underneath actionbar. Each tab has it's own fragment. On the gMapFragment I create a GPSTrack object from my GPSTrack class which extends Service and implements LocationListener. The problem is that when I start the application I get this message: I have all my libraries imported properly and I even added the google-play-services.jar into my libs folder. I also installed Google Play Services APKs through CMD onto my emulator. Furthermore the LocationManager lm = = (LocationManager) mContext.getSystemService(LOCATION_SERVICE); in my GPSTrack class always returns null. Why is this and how can I fix these issues?
