• Fast, easy, and secure method to perform DB actions with GET

  Hey All, Sort of a methods/best practices question here that I am sure has been addressed, yet I can't find a solution based on the vague search terms I enter. I know starting off the question with "Fast and easy" will probably draw out a few sighs, so my apologies. Here is the deal. I have a logged in area where an ADMIN can do a whole host of POST operations to input data relating to their profile. The way I have data structured is pretty distinct and well segmented in most tables as it relates to the ID of the admin. Now, I have a table where I dump one type of data into and differentiate this data by assigning the ADMIN's unique ID to each record. In other words, all ADMINs have this one type of data writing to this table. I just differentiate by the ADMIN ID with each record. I was planning on letting the ADMIN remove these records by clicking on a link with a query string - obviously using GET. Obviously, the query structure is in the link so any logged in admin could then exploit the URL and delete a competitor's records. Is the only way to safely do this through POST or should I pass through the session info that includes password and validate it against the ADMIN ID that is requesting the delete? This is obviously much more work for me. As they said in the auto repair biz I used to work in... there are 3 ways to do a job: Fast, Good, and Cheap. You can only have two at a time. Fast and cheap will not be good. Good and cheap will not have fast turnaround. Fast and good will NOT be cheap. haha I guess that applies here... can never have Fast, Easy and Secure all at once ;) Thanks in advance...

• Old fashioned html onclick return false doesnt in IE work when jquery script included

  Ok, so im quite new to jquery but found this bizzar problem just now, If we ignore jquery for a second and consider this scenario, if i have two links like below both with an href and both with and onclick event. The first link will not follow the href because the onclick returns false, and the second link will because the onclick returns true. <a href="/page.html" onclick="return false;">Dont follow</a> <a href="/page.html" onclick="return false;">Follow</a> This works just hunky dory in every browser as it should, the thing is, as soon as i include the jQuery script on the page this stops working in all versions of IE which then always follows the href whether the onclick returns false or not. (it continues to work fine in other browsers) Now if i add an event using jquery and call .preventDefault() on the event object instead of doing it the old fashioned way this behaves correctly, and you may say, well just do that then? But i have a site with thousands of lines of code and i am adding jquery support, i dont want to run the risk that i might miss an already defined html onclick="" and break the website. I cant see why jQuery should prevent perfectly normal javascript concepts from working, so is this a jQuery bug or am I missing something?

• Clicking on MenuItem without clicking on the text

  I've got a Menu, and I want to click on the menu, but not on the text if you guys know what i mean. The MenuItem has a border, or something like this, but when I click on it it won't redirect to the page I want unless I click on text. Is it possible to click on the whole "Button" and redirect or do what is need to do? • toggleClass messing something up.

  Hi I am using playing around with the Pretty-checkboxes-plugin and have a problem. The plugin can be seen here http://aaronweyenberg.com/90/pretty-checkboxes-with-jquery As you can see, this uses two links to select and deselect. I want it to only use one link and then change the class to make it work the other way the next time it is clicked. It should be simple enough. I have been trying to get it working with toggleClass. I simply put in the toggleClass statement so the code looks like so: $(document).ready(function() { /* see if anything is previously checked and reflect that in the view*/ $(".checklist input:checked").parent().addClass("selected"); /* handle the user selections */ $(".checklist .checkbox-select").click( function(event) { event.preventDefault(); $(this).parent().addClass("selected"); $(this).parent().find(":checkbox").attr("checked","checked"); $(this).toggleClass("checkbox-select checkbox-deselect"); } ); $(".checklist .checkbox-deselect").click( function(event) { event.preventDefault(); $(this).parent().removeClass("selected"); $(this).parent().find(":checkbox").removeAttr("checked"); $(this).toggleClass("checkbox-select checkbox-deselect"); } ); }); This works to some extend. The classes toggle just fine, but the rest of the code only works the first time it is run. All subsequent clicks just toggle the class og the link and nothing else. Does anyone have any idea why this is?

• ASP.NET: CSS friendly calendar control

  I'm using the built-in Calendar control. It works, but in a few places the way the HTML is rendered is broken or not CSS-friendly and unfortunately cannot be changed (it's hard coded). I was hoping they would fix this in .NET 4.0, but as far as I can tell the Calendar control hasn't been changed at all. Also, as far as I know, there's no CSS adapter for the Calendar control. So, I would need a control that would: Allow me to customize the content of each cell (like OnDayRender works) Allow me to assign CSS classes to any HTML it may render Not render anything automatically that cannot be turned off, except layout code No auto-postback or auto-JS code (I can handle these by hand using simple links or custom JS calls) Basically a simple calendar view control that would give me full rendering control. • Visual C++ overrides/mock objects for unit testing?

  When I'm running unit tests, I want to be able to "stub out" or create a mock object, but I'm running into DLL Hell. For example: There are two DLL libraries built: A.dll and B.dll -- Classes in A.dll have calls to classes in B.dll so when A.dll was built, the link line was using B.lib for the defintions. My test driver (Foo.exe) is testing classes in A.dll, so it links against A.lib. However, I want to "stub out" some of the calls A.dll makes to B.dll with simple versions (return basic value, no DB look up, etc). I can't build an Override.dll that just overrides the needed methods (not entire classes) and replace B.dll because Foo.exe will A) complain that B.dll is missing if I just remove it and put Override.dll in it's place or B) if I rename Override.dll to B.dll, Foo.exe complains that there are unresolved symbols because Override.dll is not a complete implementation of B.dll. Is there a way to do this? Is there a way to statically link Foo.exe with A.lib, B.lib and Override.lib such that it will work without having to completely rebuild A.lib and B.lib to remove the __delcspec(dllexport)? Is there another option?

• Viewing array of pointers to structures in Visual Studio in the debugger

  I'm having a problem displaying the contents of a pointer array with its contents in the debugger. If I just add the pointer to the watch only the fist entry is visible. But if I add the length to it the debugger assumes that I have something like array[length][length]. Picture The first entry is the broken one, looks the same with ,2 or with any ,2 x. The second one is what I would like to see, but for more entries. Edit: The two entries displayed as [x][1] are invalid. I'm using VS 2005 but I think I had this problem on 2008 as well. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

• Build a Visual Studio Project without access to referenced dlls

  I have a project which has a set of binary dependencies (assembly dlls for which I do no have the source code). At runtime those dependencies are required pre-installed on the machine and at compile time they are required in the source tree, e,g in a lib folder. As I'm also making source code available for this program I would like to enable a simple download and build experience for it. Unfortunately I cannot redistribute the dlls, and that complicates things, since VS wont link the project without access to the referenced dlls. Is there anyway to enable this project to be built and linked in absence of the real referenced dlls? Maybe theres a way to tell VS to link against an auto generated stub of the dll, so that it can rebuild without the original? Maybe there's a third party tool that will do this? Any clues or best practices at all in this area? I realize the person must have access to the dlls to run the code, so it makes sense that he could add them to the build process, but I'm just trying to save them the pain of collecting all the dlls and placing them in the lib folder manually.

The layout looks somewhat broken in the browser, and most of my projects require features not present in IE's codebase. I would like to know if you support my view, or if you share views with those who downvoted my answer.

• page not show after issuing zf command

  hello guys, just simple question, recently i have setup a web server to build project using zend framework, after setup and see those welcome page saying that you are creating websites powered by zendframework, then i try issuing command, $ zf create controller alert i get the message that saying that i've successfully create controller, view and so on, but when i try to navigate to the page by URL, ex: www.mywebapp.com/alert the page is broken, i've check those tuts but none of them showing this case. can some one define which step i've skip? update: (25/5/2010) so i've found that there is no problem, is just that i've not configured properly my route to my web apps, so i have to type URL like this: www.mywebapp.com/index.php/alert how am I going to change this? i mean i want to explode "index.php" out of URL.

  I have two instances of QObject subclasses and two QMetaMethod instances of signal in one of objects and slot in another object. I want to connect this signal and slot with each other. I've looked through the qobject.h file and find that SIGNAL() and SLOT() macro are just add "1" or "2" character to the beginning of method signature so it looks like it should be possible to add the same character to the beginning of string returned by QMetaMethod::signature() but this approach depends on some undocumented internals of toolkit and may be broken at any time by a new version of Qt. Does anybody know reliable way to connect signals and slots through their QMetaMethod reflection representation?

• Unable to persist objects in GAE JDO

  Hello Guys, I am completely fresh to both JDO and GAE, and have been struggling to get my data layer to persist any code at all! The issues I am facing may be very simple, but I just cant seem to find any a way no matter what solution I try. Firstly the problem: (Slightly simplified, but still contains all the info necessary) My data model is as such: User: (primary key) String emailID String firstName Car: (primary key) User user (primary key) String registration String model This was the initial datamodel. I implemented a CarPK object to get a composite primary key of the User and the registration. However that ran into a variety of issues. (Which i will save for another time/question) I then changed the design as such: User: (Unchanged) Car: (primary key) String fauxPK (here fauxPK = user.getEmailID() + SEP + registration) User user String registration String model This works fine for the user, and it can insert and retrieve user objects. However when i try to insert a Car Object, i get the following error: "Cannot have a java.lang.String primary key and be a child object" Found the following helpful link about it: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2063467/persist-list-of-objects Went to the link suggested there, that explains how to create Keys, however they keep talking about "Entity Groups" and "Entity Group Parents". But I cant seem to find any articles or sites that explain what are "Entity Group"s or an "Entity Group Parents" I could try fiddling around some more to figure out if i can store an object somehow, But I am running sort on patience and also would rather understand and implement than vice versa. So i would appreciate any docs (even if its huge) that covers all these points, and preferably has some examples that go beyond the very basic data modeling.   Once again, I find myself with a set of broken assumptions. The article itself is about a 10x performance gain by modifying a proven-optimal algorithm to account for virtual memory: What good is an O(log2(n)) algorithm if those operations cause page faults and slow disk operations? For most relevant datasets an O(n) or even an O(n^2) algorithm, which avoids page faults, will run circles around it. Are there more such algorithms around? Should we re-examine all those fundamental building blocks of our education? What else do I need to watch out for when writing my own?

• WPF-Can a XAML object be a source as well as a target for bindings?

  I was wondering if it's possible to have a TextBlock as a target and a source? Basically I have a bunch of entities which have simple relationships to other entities (like Entity1 Knows Entity3, Entity3 WorksAt Entity2 etc.) I have a Link class that stores SourceEntity, Relationship and TargetEntity details. What I want to be able to do is to select an entity then display the relationships related to that entity, with the target entities of each relationship listed underneath the relationship names. When an entity is selected, an ObservableCollection is populated with the Links for that particular entity (SelectedEntityLinks<Link>). Because each entity could have the same relationship to more than one target entity (Entity1 could know both Entity3 and Entity4 for eg.), I've created a method GetThisRelationshipEntities() that takes a relationship name as a parameter, looks through SelectedEntityLinks for relationship names that match the parameter, and returns an ObservableCollection with the target entities of that relationship. Hope I'm making this clear. In my xaml I have a WrapPanel to display each relationship name in a TextBlock: <TextBlock x:Name="relationship" Text="{Binding Path=Relationship.Name}" /> Then underneath that another Textblock which should display the results of GetThisRelationshipEntities(String relationshipName). So I want the "relationship" TextBlock to both get its Text from the binding I've shown above, but also to provide its Text as a parameter to the GetThisRelationshipEntities() method which I've added to <UserControl.Resources> as an ObjectDataProvider. Sorry if this is a bit wordy but I hope it's clear. Any pointers/advice would be great. Many thanks.

• Java Script in Rails 3.1 works only in certain parts. Any idea why?

  This might seem a bit weird, but since I am new in RoR and cannot find any similar questions I thought you might know. The situation is that JavaScript does not work throughout my whole site. For instance. For the sake of checking, I place a link with an alert function in the footer. It did not work at the beginning, it felt like the JS was disabled(but it wasn't). But eventually it worked. Now it works in most the pages but it does not work in one that there is also an 'autocomplete' field. Of course, this autocomplete field does not work either. That could lead you to think that there is something wrong with the autocomplete code. However this same code is working in the sidebar. Any ideas why? Could it have anything to do with the fact that one day my assets folder appeared empty? After installing the gmaps4rails gem I realized that all my Js and CSS files were gone from my assests folder. Ok, it might have happened long before and I just realized at that point. I don't really know. Here in the root you can see that the 'Hola sip' click at the button works. here it works However, here same link does not trigger the alert function. here it doesn't

• How to model a mutually exclusive relationship in sql server

  Hi, I have to add functionality to an existing application and I've run into a data situation that I'm not sure how to model. I am being restricted to the creation of new tables and code. If I need to alter the existing structure I think my client may reject the proposal..although if its the only way to get it right this is what I will have to do. I have an Item table that can me link to any number of tables, and these tables may increase over time. The Item can only me linked to one other table, but the record in the other table may have many items linked to it. Examples of the tables/entities being linked to are "Person", "Vehicle", "Building", "Office". These are all separate tables. Example of Items are "Pen", "Stapler", "Cushion", "Tyre", "A4 Paper", "Plastic Bag", "Poster", "Decoration" For instance a "Poster" may be allocated to a "Person" or "Office" or "Building". In the future if they add a "Conference Room" table it may also be added to that. My intital thoughts are: Item { ID, Name } LinkedItem { ItemID, LinkedToTableName, LinkedToID } The LinkedToTableName field will then allow me to identify the correct table to link to in my code. I'm not overly happy with this solution, but I can't quite think of anything else. Please help! :) Thanks!

• Problems solving oddly acting labels in ie7.

  Okay so this is sort of a double question so I'll split it into two. First part In modern browsers the main bold labels sit above their corresponding form elements, and align to the left as is expected. However in ie7, they randomly site 10-15px inset. I went through the developer tools and could find nothing to fix it. I've made sure all my margins and padding is reset so I don't really understand =S Here's the page demo - link Maybe some of you ie bug fixing genius's know what the problem is? =D Second part Again with labels, this time the in-line ones resident next to the check boxes and radio buttons. In modern browsers again, the side beside the form elements as expected, but not so in ie7 where they take a new line. I've tried floating, changing margins and everything but to no effect in sitting it in-line with the div.checker or div.radio that is created by the uniform Jquery plugin. However I've stacked! • How to code a 'Next in Results' within search results in PHP

  Right, bit of a head scratcher, although I've got a feeling there's an obvious answer and I'm just not seeing the wood for the trees. Baiscally, using Solr as a search engine for my site, bringing back 15 results per page. When you click on a result, you get a detail page, that has a "Next in Results" link on it, which obviously forwards you on to the next result. Whats the best way of doing this? I've come up with a few solutions but they're either too inpractical or just don't work. I could store all the ids in a session array, then grab the one after the current one and put that in the link. But with possibly hundreds/thousands of results, the memory that array would need, and the performance hit of dealing with it isn't practical. I could take the same approach and put it into the db, but I'll still have to deal with a potentially huge array when I grab them out of the db. Or; I could do the search again, only returning the id's, and grab the one after the one we're currently looking at. I think this could be the best option? Although it does seem kind of messy, namely because of when I have to select the id thats on a different 'page' (ie the 16th, 31st etc result). Unless I pass through where it was in the results, and select from there, but that still doesn't seem like the right way to do it. I'm really sorry if this is just complete nonsense, any help is massively appreciated as always, Cheers guys!

• CKEditor doesn't apply inline styles to links

  I'm using ckeditor version 3 as a text editor to create markup to be sent through email. This means that I have to have all the styles inline and anything that needs to be styled will definitely need the style applied. I'm currently using addStylesSet to generate custom styles that can be applied to elements. The problem I have is that although this works on most elements, styles don't seem to be applied to <a> <ol> <ul> and <li> I really need to be able to apply inline styles to these elements as well. I've been looking at the examples on the ckeditor site, but even they just seem to be wrapping a <span> around the link. Is there anyway I can apply inline styles to <a> tags or failing that, can I just give ckeditor a bunch of classes that can be applied to any tag (Like TinyMCE does with it's link to an external css file)? so that I can at least do a textreplace on them to get the styles inline? I haven't pasted any code here because it's exactly the same as what's been done on the ckeditor site.
