For example, my lookup field "Actual City" refers list "Cities" and column "Title", I have 3 cities there. The idea is if someone selects something on the first screen say then a new view opens(tableview) car make> list of models Honda > Acura, S2000,accord ... My challenge is to show the list of models in a new tableview & secondly change the size of hte list depending on the car selected. The catch is, that I need to order it by the Data dictionary. For example: Order By Data["lastname"] or Where Data["Name"].StartsWith("a"). I thought to use the dynamic linq library, but is there any way that my clients can write without the Data[]? For example: Name.StartsWith("abc") instead of Data["Name"].StartsWith("abc") ?   Hi, Say I have a list of Employee IDs from one data source and a separate data source with a list of Employees, with their ID, Surname, FirstName, etc. Is it possible in XAML only to get the Employee's name from the second data source and display it next to the ID, using something like this (with the syntax corrected)?.. <TextBlock x:Name="EmployeeID" Text="{Binding ID}"></TextBlock> <TextBlock Grid.Column="1" DataContext="{StaticResource EmployeeList[**where ID = {Binding ID}**]}" Text="{Binding Surname}"/> I'm thinking back to my days using XML and XSLT with XPath to achieve the kind of thing shown above. Is this kind of thing possible in XAML? Or do I need to 'denormalize' the data first in code, into one consolidated list? It seems like it should be possible to do this simple task using XAML only, but I can't quite get my head around how you would switch the DataContext correctly and what the syntax would be to achieve this.   Hi, suppose I have this class: public class A { private HashMap<String, B> map; @XmlElement private void setB(ArrayList<B> col) { ... } private ArrayList<B> getB() { ... } } When trying to unmarshall an xml document to this class using JaxB I notice that instead of calling the setB() method and sending me the list of B instances JaxB actually calls the getB() and adds the B instances to the returned list. Why? The reason I want the setter to be called is that the list is actually just a temporary storage from which I want to build the map field, so I thought to do it in the setter. Thanks.

• Setting TreeView.DataContext doesn't refresh the tree

  I have a List that I've bound to a TreeView. Setting TreeView.DataContext works - everything displays correctly. I then change the list (add an item to it) and set TreeView.DataContext again (to the same value) but the tree does not refresh with the new items. How do I get the treeview to refresh? This is basically my code: public class xItemCollection : ObservableCollection<xItem> { } public class xItem : INotifyPropertyChanged { xItemCollection _Items; public xItem() { _Items = new xItemCollection(); } public xItemCollection Items {get{return _Items;}} } ... this.RootItem = new xItem(); treeView.DataContext = this; Adding items to the list works until the tree is rendered for the first time. After it is rendered, adding/removing items does not refresh the tree.

• What are the Worst Software Project Failures Ever?

  Is there a good list of "worst software project failures ever" in the history of software development? For example in Canada a "gun registry" project spent around two billion dollars. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_registry). This is of course, insane, even if the final product "sort of worked". I have heard of an FBI Case file system which there have been several attempts to rewrite, all of them so far, failures. There is a book on the subject (Software Runaways). There doesn't seem to be be a software "boondoggle" list or "fiasco" list on Wikipedia that I can see. (Update: Therac-25 would be the 'winner' of this question, except that I was internally thinking more of Software projects that had as their deliverable, mainly software, as opposed to firmware projects like Therac-25, where the hardware and firmware together are capable of killing people. In terms of pure software monetary debacles, which was my intended question, there are several contenders.)

  This is really two questions in one. First, are nettiquette guidelines still accurate in their restrictions on ASCII vs. HTML, posting style, and line length? (Here's a recent metafilter discussion of the topic.) Second, If they are not, should these guidelines be respected? If they are (or if they should still be respected), how can modern mail programs be configured to work properly with them? Most mailing list etiquette statements appear to have been written by sysadmins who loved their command lines, and refuse to change anything. Many still reference rfc1855, written in 1995. Just reading that paginated TXT should give you an idea of the climate at the time. Here's a short, fairly random list of mailing list etiquette statements with some extracted formatting guidelines: Mozilla - HTML discouraged, interleaved posting. FreeBSD - No HTML, don't top post, line length at 75 characters. Fedora - No HTML, bottom-post. You get the idea. You've all seen etiquette statements before. So, assuming that the rules should be obeyed (Usually a good idea), what can be done to allow me to still use a modern mail program, and exchange mail with friends who use the same programs? We like to format our mail. Bold headings, code snippets (sometimes syntax highlighted, if the copy-paste pulls RTF text as from XCOde and Eclipse), free line breaks determined by your browser width, and the (very) occasional image make the message easier to read. Threaded conversations are a wonderful thing. Broadband connections are, I'm sure, the rule for most of the users of SU and of developer mailing lists, disk space is cheap, and so the overhead of HTML is laughable. However, I don't want to post a question to a mailing list and have the guru who can answer my question automatically delete it, or come off as uncaring. Until I hear otherwise, I'll continue to respect the rules as best I can. For a common example of the problem, Gmail, by default, sends HTML formatted messages with bottom-posted quotes (which are folded in, just read the last message immediately above), and uses the frame width to wrap lines, rather than a character count. ASCII can be selected, and quotes can be moved and reversed, but line wraps of quotes don't work, line breaks are tedious to add (and more tedious to read, if they're super small in comparison to the width of the frame). Is there a forwarding, free mail program which can help with this exercise? Should an "RFC1855 mode" lab be written? Or do I have to go to the command line for my mailing lists, and gmail for my other mail?

  I want my Food class to be able to test whenever it is equal to another class. I will later use it against a List, and I want to use its List.Contains() method. Should I implement IEquatable or just override Object.Equals()? From MSDN: This method determines equality by using the default equality comparer, as defined by the object's implementation of the IEquatable.Equals method for T (the type of values in the list). So my next question is: which functions/classes of the .NET framework make use of Object.Equals()? Should I use it in the first place? Thanks

Now I need to : join 'num' chars together in some word_part temporary list join all word_parts into one word join this word with the rest of words, that weren't long enough to be splitted.   I am trying to make an export of a list in SharePoint to an Excel spreadsheet. I have added all needed fields to my default view of the list, (like Publishing Start Date / End date) but some fields (like Publishing Start Date / End date) don't show up in Excel. Any idea? EDIT: My setup is a MOSS standard edition, the needed fields (Publishing Start Date / End date) are standard SharePoint publishing fields. The versions of Excel I tried it with are 2003 and 2007

• How can I pass data from an aspx page to an ascx modal popup?

  I'm fairly new to ASP.NET and trying to learn how things are done. I come from a C# background so the code-behind portion is easy, but thinking like a web developer is unfamiliar. I have an aspx page that contains a grid of checkboxes. I have a button that is coded via a Button_Click event to collect a list of which rows are checked and create a session variable out of that list. The same button is referenced (via TargetControlID) by my ascx page's ModalPopupExtender which controls the panel on the ascx page. When the button is clicked, the modal popup opens but the Button_Click event is never fired, so the modal doesn't get its session data. Since the two pages are separate, I can't call the ModalPopupExtender from the aspx.cs code, I can't reach the list of checkboxes from the ascx.cs code, and I don't see a way to populate my session variable and then programmatically activate some other hidden button or control which will then open my modal popup. Any thoughts?

• Modifying generator.yml views in Symfony

  Hey! I'm currently working on a web app written in Symfony. I'm supposed to add an "export to CSV" feature in the backend/administration part of the app for some modules. In the list view, there should be an "Export" button which should provide the user with a csv file of the elements that are displayed (considering filtering criteria). I've created a method in the actions class of the module that takes a comma separated list of ids and generates the CSV, but I'm not really sure how to add the link to it in the view. The problem is that the view doesn't exist anywhere, it's generated on the fly from the data in the generator.yml configuration file. • Listview selects mutliple items when clicked

  I'm trying to make a task manager, and I only have one problem. I have a listview that gets inflated. All the elements in the listview are correct. The problem is that when I select an item, the listview will select another item away. I've heard listviews repopulate the list as it scrolls down to save memory. I think this may be some sort of problem. Here is a picture of the problem. If i had more apps loaded, then it would continue to select multiple at once. • In T-SQL how to display columns for given table name?

  I am trying to list all of the columns from whichever Adventureworks table I choose. What T-sQL statement or stored proc can I execute to see this list of all columns? I want to use my C# web app to input one input parameter = table_name and then get a list of all the column_names as output. Right now I am trying to execute the sp_columns stored proc which works, but I can't get just the one column with select and exec combined. Does anybody know how to do this?

• chrooting user causes "connection closed" message when using sftp

  First off I am a linux newbie so please don't assume much knowledge. I am using CentOS 5.8 (final) and using OpenSSH version 5.8p1. I have made a user playwithbits and I am attempting to chroot them to the directory home/nginx/domains/playwithbits/public I am using the following match statement in my sshd_config file: Match group web-root-locked ChrootDirectory /home/nginx/domains/%u/public X11Forwarding no AllowTcpForwarding no ForceCommand /usr/libexec/openssh/sftp-server # id playwithbits returns: uid=504(playwithbits) gid=504(playwithbits) groups=504(playwithbits),507(web-root-locked) I have changed the user's home directory to: home/nginx/domains/playwithbits/public Now when I attempt to sftp in with this user I instantly get the message: connection closed Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
