• Scrollable display of multiple video icons

  Hello, I want to have multiple video icons at the top my website's front page. I will have about 20 or so which won't fit on one line (I want to keep the videos on one like) so I thought of having two button on the right of the group and on the left of the group where you click to scroll and view more videos. Do you know an easy way to do this? I can pass in the video links from the server in different Divs or anyway that will make it easy. I thought of using AJAX and pass it different set every time from the server with every click (I'm using Rails and it's fairly easy to do it) but that will be an extra load on the server which I'm trying to avoid. I'd rather send all the icons at once and let the JavaScript handle the scrolling. I thought of using iFrame but I don't like the idea of scrollbar and wanted to be more like button Any ideas?   Now I have a solver in that I need to keep a set of self-defined data type objects in a concurrent_vector or queue. It has to be concurrent because the objects come from different threads.With this concurrent container, I hope to sort these objects, eliminate duplicates and send them back when other threads need them. However, I know TBB offers concurrent_vector and concurrent_queue which can be read and written concurrently from different threads. But how to sort the objects inside a container? Does everyone know how to do that? Thanks.

• PHP Dynamic include based on current file path

  Hello, I want to find a method to include some files based on the current file path.. for example: I have "website.com/templates/name1/index.php", this "index.php should be a unique file that I will use in many different directories on different depths, so I want to make the code universal so I don't need to change anything inside this file.. So if this "index.php" is located in "website.com/templates/name1/index.php" than it should include the file located here: "website.com/content/templates/name1/content.php" another example: "website.com/templates/name2/index.php" than it should include the file located here: "website.com/content/templates/name2/content.php" Also I want to overrun "*Warning: include_once() [function.include-once]: http:// wrapper is disabled in the server configuration by allow_url_include=0*" kind of error.. because is disabled and unsafe.. • Expand in linq not loading inner data collections from service.

  I am seeing odd behavior with service queries! I am using MVVM pattern for a silverlight 3 app on 3.5 framework and Dataservices 1.5. The following code eager loads correctly the parent object and the child heirarchy perfectly IF and ONLY IF I am preloading the data. But I would like to fetch a different set of the parent object (and its child heirarchy) on different button clicks. What I am seeing is that on button click, only the parent object is retrieved, and the child heirarchy contains nothing. Any suggestions? Any ideas how to tackle this? Thanks all. • count(*) is it really expensive ?

  I have a page where i have 4 tabs displaying 4 different reports based of different tables. Now i get row count of each tabled using select count() from table query and display number of rows available in each table on the tabs. Now with each page post back 5 count() queries are executed (4 to get counts and 1 for pagination) and 1 query for getting report. Now my question is should is count(*) query really expensive that i should keep the row counts (at least which are displayed on tab) in view state of page instead of queering each time? How much expensive it is ?

• Stream/string/bytearray transformations in Python 3

  Python 3 cleans up Python's handling of Unicode strings. I assume as part of this effort, the codecs in Python 3 have become more restrictive, according to the Python 3 documentation compared to the Python 2 documentation. For example, codecs that conceptually convert a bytestream to a different form of bytestream have been removed: base64_codec bz2_codec hex_codec And codecs that conceptually convert Unicode to a different form of Unicode have also been removed (in Python 2 it actually went between Unicode and bytestream, but conceptually it's really Unicode to Unicode I reckon): rot_13 My main question is, what is the "right way" in Python 3 to do what these removed codecs used to do? They're not codecs in the strict sense, but "transformations". But the interface and implementation would be very similar to codecs. I don't care about rot_13, but I'm interested to know what would be the "best way" to implement a transformation of line ending styles (Unix line endings vs Windows line endings) which should really be a Unicode-to-Unicode transformation done before encoding to byte stream, especially when UTF-16 is being used, as discussed this other SO question.

• [IE 7/8] Loading HTML content in via Javascript nulls my <title> tag in some instances

  This is an Explorer only problem and the symptoms are: I have links that when clicked will load in HTML chunks (none of which contain html header tags) using javascript. The html chunks are placed in various <div>s around the page, perhaps 3 different places with 3 different chunks brought in via javascript. When these chunks load in the <title> tag of the page gets set to <title></title> for some unknown (to me) reason. I've used the IE developer toolbar to confirm this by inspecting the DOM tree. I have other pages that do similar things but it does not seem to be a problem there.

• How are dll's loaded by the CLR?

  My assumption was always that the CLR loaded all of the dlls it needed on startup of the app domain. However, I've written an example that makes me question this assumption. I start up my application and check to see how many modules are loaded. The additional dll is C:\WINNT\system32\version.dll. I'm really confused as to why the counts would be different. Could someone please elaborate on what the clr is doing and how it's loading these thing, and by what logic it's doing so?

  I see the rate limit is 150/hr per IP. This'd be fine, but my application is on a mobile phone network (with shared IP addresses). I'd like to query twitter trends, e.g. GET /trends/1/json. This doesn't require authorization, however what if the user first authorized with my application using OAuth, then hit the JSON API? • What is the point/purpose of Ruby EventMachine, Python Twisted, or JavaScript Node.js?

  I don't understand what problem these frameworks solve. Are they replacements for a HTTP server like Apache HTTPD, Tomcat, Mongrel, etc? Or are they more? Why might I use them... some real world examples? I've seen endless examples of chat rooms and broadcast services, but don't see how this is any different than, for instance, setting up a Java program to open sockets and dispatch a thread for each request. I think I understand the non-blocking I/O, but I don't understand how that is any different than a multi-threaded web server.

  Is it always guaranteed that a multi-threaded application would run faster than a single threaded application? I have two threads that populates data from a data source but different entities (eg: database, from two different tables), seems like single threaded version of the application is running faster than the version with two threads. Why would the reason be? when i look at the performance monitor, both cpu s are very spikey ? is this due to context switching? what are the best practices to jack the CPU and fully utilize it? I hope this is not ambiguous.

  I have two entities A and B. They are related with many to many relation. Entity A can be related up to 100 B entities. Entity B can be related up to 10000 A entities. I need quick way to select for example 30 A entities, that have relation with specified B entities, filtered and sorted by different attributes. Here how I see ideal solution: I put all information I know about A entities, including their relations with B entities into single row (Special table with SET field) then add all necessary indexes. The problem is that you can't use index while querying by SET field. What should I do? I can replace database with something different, if that'll help.

• Objective-C Custom extend

  I have a couple classes that have nearly identical code. Only a string or two is different between them. What I would like to do is to make them from another class that defines those functions and then uses constants or something else to define those strings that are different. I'm not sure if "___" is inheritance or extending or what. That is what I need help with. For example: objectA.m: -(void)helloWorld { NSLog("Hello %@",child.name); } objectBob.m: #define name @"Bob" objectJoe.m #define name @"Joe" (I'm not sure if it's legal to define strings, but this gets the point across) It would be ideal if objectBob.m and objectJoe.m didn't have to even define the methods, just their relationship to objectA.m. Is there any way to do something like this? If all else fails I'll just make objectA.m: -(void)helloWorld:(NSString *name) { NSLog("Hello %@",name); } And have the other files call that function (and just #import objectA.m).

  Hi guys! I have a month of free time and I've decided to launch my own website. It's going to be big and have dymanic content where different users with different roles can perform modifications to the site. Place comments, rate stores, list items, etc. This sound like a perfect opportunity for me to expand my horizons and learn a PHP Framework. I've used PHP bare bones before but nothing too complex. As of now, do you think Kohana is a mature framework to use? I've used Zend in the past for a course in Uni but it sucked horribly, I was new to the MVC model, but Zend had pretty much zero workable tutorials and guides for newbies. That's why I hated it. Where can I go to learn how to use Kohana from a retarded starting point? Thank you very much for your time.

  Is there a program to compare one folder and all subfolders to another folder and all subfolders for differences in the files contained therein (presence, absence of files, size and list of filenames)? Example of usage: I have 100 DLL files from environment 1 and I want to check if any of them are different (in size and date modified) from the 100 DLL files in environment 2. So I copy and paste all the DLLs in environment 1 into directory A, and all the DLLs in environment 2 into directory B. I then run my "directory comparison" program on directories A and B and find out that, aha, here is a list of 7 DLLs that have different modified dates and times between the two directories. EDIT: OS is windows XP

  Hi everybody, I'm riding three different jCarousel ul, one in each target of a tabbed menu designeb by Yetii. The problem issue is that the one in the first target works well, whereas the remaining two show just a slice of the first picture and slide soon onto a back frame. The jCarousel is initialized by a class as the behaviour required is the same for all targets: jQuery(document).ready(function() { jQuery('.jcarousel-skin-tango').jcarousel({ wrap: 'circular', //size:8, scroll:1, animation:.10, auto:5, }); }); The ul have different id.   What are some different solutions to wrapping access to functionality within a .NET MVC application? For example, I have six tabs that represent different areas of the application and within area 1, there is the ability to add, edit, upload, whatever. I need a central way to say: Build some dictionary of what the user can do Wrap tabs, buttons, links, etc, validate the user can access this piece of functionality and show/hide appropriately. I know I can restrict access to actions via action filters and roles, but what about from the UI? Any help would be appreciated. I am sure I am not the only one who has needed to do this, thanks!

  This has to be a common problem, so I'm surprised that Google didn't turn up more answers. I'm working on a rails app that has several different kinds of entities, those entities by need a relation to a different entity. For example: Address: a Model that stores the details of a street address (this is my shared entity) PersonContact: a Model that includes things like home phone, cell phone and email address. This model needs to have an address associated with it DogContact: Obviously, if you want to contact a dog, you have to go to where it lives. So, PersonContact and DogContact should have foreign keys to Address. Even, though they are really the "owning" object of Address. This would be fine, except that accepts_nested_attributes_for is counting on the foreign key being in Address to work correctly. What's the correct strategy to keep the foreign key in Address, but have PersonContact and DogContact be the owning objects?

My question: i want to design a database, that will be used for a production facility of different types of products where each product has its own (number of) parameters. because i want the serial numbers to be in one tabel for overview purposes i have a problem with these different paraeters . One solution could be AEV, but it has its downsides, certainly because we have +- 5 products with every product +- 20.000 serial numbers (records). it looks a bit overkill to me... I just don't know how one could design a database so that you have an attribute in a mastertable that says: 'hey, you could find details of this record in THAT detail-table". 'in a way that you qould easely query the results) currenty i am using Visual Basic & Acces 2007. but i'm going to Visual Basic & MySQL. thanks for your help. Bob

• Programatically Determining Bin Path

  I'm working on a web app called pj and there is a bin file and a src folder. The relative paths before I deploy the app will look something like: pj/bin and pj/src/pj/script.py. However, after deployment, the relative paths will look like: pj_dep/deployed/bin and pj_dep/deployed/lib/python2.6/site-packages/pj/script.py Question: Within script.py, I am trying to find the path of a file in the bin directory. This leads to 2 different behaviors in the dev and deployment environment. If I do os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__), 'bin') to try to get the path for the dev environment, I will have a different path for the deployment environment. Is there a more generalized way I can find the bin directory so that I do not need to rely on an if statement to determine how many directories to go up based on the current env? This doesn't seem flexible and might cause other issues later on when the code is moved.
