• Which is faster in memory, ints or chars? And file-mapping or chunk reading?

  Okay, so I've written a (rather unoptimized) program before to encode images to JPEGs, however, now I am working with MPEG-2 transport streams and the H.264 encoded video within them. Before I dive into programming all of this, I am curious what the fastest way to deal with the actual file is. Currently I am file-mapping the .mts file into memory to work on it, although I am not sure if it would be faster to (for example) read 100 MB of the file into memory in chunks and deal with it that way. These files require a lot of bit-shifting and such to read flags, so I am wondering that when I reference some of the memory if it is faster to read 4 bytes at once as an integer or 1 byte as a character. I thought I read somewhere that x86 processors are optimized to a 4-byte granularity, but I'm not sure if this is true... Thanks!

I want to be able to entry those field by X++ code, because currently our company still entry data into old system. I can retrieve the arrival purchase order goods data from that old system, then I want to entry those retrieved data by code into Axapta. What table and field should I consider when doing that? What functions available to easily update each PO lines received quantity? Sample Code is nice.

  I have a very large javascript file: it's over 9,000 lines. The code looks like this: var GlobalVar1 = ""; var GlobalVar2 = null; function A() {...} function B(SomeParameter) {...} I'm using the google compiler and the global variables and functions get renamed a,b,c... and there's a good change that there might be some collision later with some outside code. What I want to do is have my code organized like the jquery library where everything is accessible with $. Is there a way to namespace my code so that everything is behind a # character for example. I'd like to have this to call my code: #.GlobalVar #.functionA(SomeParameter) How can I do this? Thanks.

  Hello developers Is there any way you can store the UI state to disk when a WPF form has been minimised. I have a complex GUI with few Tab Controls and it consumes quite a bit of memory which is kept allocated when the application is not active. I was hoping one of you may have got this working along the lines (or similar) Application Active User does work, plays with UI - enters some information in the text boxes and moves around the tabs User minimises the form to work with other applications On Minimise, Save the current state to the disk and dispose the root tabcontrol On Activiate, build the root tabcontrol from the disk and add to the controls collection Before I divein to do this, I thought it will help me if I ask this question here.   Consider following MySQL table: CREATE TABLE `log` ( `what` enum('add', 'edit', 'remove') CHARACTER SET ascii COLLATE ascii_bin NOT NULL, `with` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL, KEY `with_what` (`with`,`what`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB; INSERT INTO `log` (`what`, `with`) VALUES ('add', 1), ('edit', 1), ('add', 2), ('remove', 2); As I understand, with_what index must have 2 unique entries on its first with level and 3 unique entries in what "subindex". But MySQL reports 4 unique entries for each level. In other words, number of unique elements for each level is always equal to number of rows in log table. Is that a bug, a feature or my misunderstanding?

An unsupported character encoding was declared for the HTML document using a meta tag. The declaration was ignored. My firebug version is 1.7.3. What could be causing this error?.

• Unable to sign an imported msi.dll assembly using tlbimp

  This seems so trivial, yet I can't get it to work.. I have an msi.dll wrapper (named Interop.WindowsInstaller.dll) which I need to sign. The way to do it is by signing it upon import (this specific case is even documented in MSDN: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/zec56a0w.aspx). BUT - no matter how I do it (w/ or w/o a keyfile, w/ or w/o adding "/delaysign"), the generated assemly's size is always 36,864 bytes and when viewing the DLL's properties there is no "Digital Signatures" tab (needless to say - the DLL is NOT signed). What am I missing here?? (... HELP!...)

  I am developing an application that is focuses on on WebView i am loading map from a webpage and calling subsequent java script request on it but i do not know what is happening with Galaxy Tab 7' and my emulator too after running well first time if i visit the application again its just showing blank page. • How to diagnose, and reverse (not prevent) Unicode mangling

  Somewhere upstream of me, "something" happened that looks like unicode mangling. One symptom is that a lowercase u umlaut (ü) gets converted to "ü" (ie, character FC gets converted to C3 BC). Assuming that I have no control over this upstream process, how can I reverse-engineer what's going on? And if that is possible, can I crank the sausage machine backwards and get the original text back? (If it helps to understand this case, the text I received was in the form of a MySQL dump. I think somwewhere in the dump/transport process it got mangled.)

• How to declare a variable that spans multiple lines

  I'm attempting to initialise a string variable in C++, and the value is so long that it's going to exceed the 80 character per line limit I'm working to, so I'd like to split it to the next line, but I'm not sure how to do that. I know that when splitting the contents of a stream across multiple lines, the syntax goes like cout << "This is a string" << "This is another string"; Is there an equivalent for variable assignment, or do I have to declare multiple variables and concatenate them? Edit: I misspoke when I wrote the initial question. When I say 'next line', I'm just meaning the next line of the script. When it is printed upon execution, I would like it to be on the same line.

  I am working with the cut function to prep data for a barplot histogram but keep running into a seeming inconsistency between my labels and breaks: Error in cut.default(sample(1:1e+05, 500, T), breaks = sq, labels = sprintf("$%.0f", : labels/breaks length conflict Here is an example. I pretend that it is income data, using a sequence of 0 to $100,000 in bins of $10,000. I use the same variable to generate both breaks and labels, with minor formating on the label side. • How do I get the CoreData Debug argument to output to the console?

  According to Apple documentation on debugging Core Data it says we should be able to pass an argument to the application which will output the SQL core data sends to SQLite. I have gone into the arguments tab of my executable in XCode and specified the argument: -com.apple.CoreData.SQLDebug 1 However, I see no SQL in the console. I then tried to use this parameter in the CoreDataBooks application provided by Apple just in case there was some other issue in MY program. Even in Apple's example I get no SQL output in the console. Am I doing something wrong? Is Apple's documentation wrong? Should I be looking someplace other than the console? Has anyone else had success with this argument?

• Finding Windows printer driver name using API

  I can't seem to find an API call that returns the driver name for a Windows printer. Note that I'm not talking about the friendly name of the printer in the printer folder, I'm talking about the name of actual driver being used as shown on the "Advanced" tab when you look at the printer properties: I'm trying to detect when I'm printing to the "Generic / Text Only" driver regardless of what name the user chooses for the printer. It doesn't seem like this should be hard, but I can't find it in the DEVMODE structure or anyplace else I've thought to look for it. Thanks for the help!

  Hello. I have a tab delimited file with 5 columns and need to retrieve a count of just the number of unique lines from column 2. I would normally do this with Perl/Python but I am forced to use the shell for this one. I have successfully in the past used *nix uniq function piped to wc but it looks like I am going to have to use awk in here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. • Open Folder within ClearCase Remote Client using Windows Explorer

  Is there a way to open the folder location of a file from within CCRC? While I know I can open/copy from directly within CCRC, it is often useful to work directly with the file from within Windows Explorer. I am looking for something like "open file location" or "open in windows explorer". The folder within CCRC does not appear to allow opening it directly as the double-mouse-click action just expands the tree listing. The path is listed/copyable within the "ClearCase Details" tab, but I am trying to take my laziness to a whole new level by being able to open the folder with a single click. • How do I write raw binary data in Python?

  I've got a Python program that stores and writes data to a file. The data is raw binary data, stored internally as str. I'm writing it out through a utf-8 codec. However, I get UnicodeDecodeError: 'charmap' codec can't decode byte 0x8d in position 25: character maps to <undefined> in the cp1252.py file. This looks to me like Python is trying to interpret the data using the default code page. But it doesn't have a default code page. That's why I'm using str, not unicode. I guess my questions are: How do I represent raw binary data in memory, in Python? When I'm writing raw binary data out through a codec, how do I encode/unencode it?

• How to allow certain HTML tags in a form field in Symfony 1.2

  I'm playing around with Symfony and have encountered a road block. I created a model "CmsPage" which has a field called "content" which is stored as a clob (this is specific to doctrine I believe). When I created the app I set "--escaping-strategy=on" so if I enter any html when editing a CmsPage that gets encoded with html entities or something along those lines. I would like to allow html in this field and a quick googling hasn't helped much. Maybe I'm searching for the wrong terms. Anywho I would like to disable character escaping for this field and possibly only allow a small selection of html tags. What is the correct way to do this in Symfony?

  If i takes larger datatype where i know i should have taken datatype that was sufficient for possible values that i will insert into a table will affect any performance in sql server in terms of speed or any other way. eg. IsActive (0,1,2,3) not more than 3 in any case. I know i must take tinyint but due to some reasons consider it as compulsion, i am taking every numeric field as bigint and every character field as nVarchar(Max) Please give statistics if possible, to let me try to overcoming that compulsion. I need some solid analysis that can really make someone rethink before taking any datatype.

• Emulate back button in multi-view TabActivity

  Hi, all I have a TabActivity with several tabs. Each tab corresponds to a specific view, and those views may further switch to other views. For example, one of my tabs displays RSS feed list, after user clicks one of the RSS feed, it will switch to a view displaying a list of articles, and after user clicks one of the titles, a full article view will be displayed. I'm going to add support for "back" button in my application. For instance, in a full article view, after user presses the "back" button, it should switch back to the article list view. And if user presses it the "back" button again, my application should switch back to the feed list view. My idea is to maintain a Stack<View> during navigation, and every time user presses the "back" button, the program will pop a View out of the stack, and set it as the current view. But I would like to know how to set current view in TabHost. Many thanks.
