• Silverlight4 Printing Question

  Hello everyone! I'm having a problem with printing. Is it possible to print a (customized) DataGrid which doesn't fit the page? a) Using a ViewBox to make it fit one page. My problem here is that I can get the PrintableArea.Width and PrintableArea.Height in the PrintPage EventHandler, from the PrintPageEventArgs, but in that Event Handler I can't set the size of an UIElement before it gets printed. b) Multiple pages. Is it possible somehow to print the whole DataGrid, even the parts which are not visible (don't fit the page) and to somehow make the PrintableArea only a part of the DataGrid?

• Clustered index dilemma - ID or sort?

  I have a table with two very important fields: id INT identity(1,1) PRIMARY KEY identifiersortcode VARCHAR(900) My app always sorts and pages search results in the UI based on identifiersortcode, but all table joins (and they are legion) are on the id field. (Aside: yes, the sort code really is that long. There's a strong BL reason.) Also, due to O/RM use, most SELECT statements are going to pull almost every column. Currently, the clustered index is on id, but I'm wondering if the TOP / ORDER BY portion of most queries would make identifiersortcode a more attractive option as the clustered key, even considering all of the table joins going on. Inserts on the table and changes to the identifiersortcode are limited enough that changing my clustered index would be a problem for insert/update operations. Trying to make the sort code's non-clustered index a covering index (using INCLUDE) is not a good option. There are a number of large columns, and some of them have a lot of update activity.

  My website is organized in the following folder structure Root Pages CustomerManagement DepartMentManagement Script UserControls Now i have a user control inside userControl Folder. I have to use a external js file. So i use it this way <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" src="../Script/slider.js"></script> My understanding is that since both are under root so i have used a single .. Now what happens is that when this usercontrol is used inside DepartMentManagement it checks for script folder inside CustomerManagement as .. refers to one hierarchy above and script file is not found.Even using a ~ doesnot work. I want to make this script path independent of the path where this control is used. I don't want to move script reference code to the page as control requires script mot page.Please tell me how to achieve this.

  This seems like it should be easy, but I can't seem to figure it out. All of my google searches lead me to linking to databases which isn't what I want to do. I'm a complete web development newb. I've roughly followed the NerdDinner tutorial in creating my web app. One of my stored fields is a web address. On the Index and Details pages, when I display the info from my record, I want the web address to be a clickable link to the website. • What is a good Java web crawler library?

  Hi, I am about to develop a crawler in Java but don't feel like reinventing the wheel. A quick Google search gives a whole bunch of Java libraries to build a web crawler. Besides that Nutch is of course a very robust package but seems a bit too advanced for my needs. I only need to crawl a handful websites a week containing a couple of 1000 pages each. Which open source Java library would you recommend considering: speed multithreading (or even distributed) extending it with new functionality active maintained and documentation?

• What could cause "Connection Interrupted" on LocalHost when debugging in ASP.NET

  I'm trying to run a freshly created ASP.NET Website using C#, however when I do so it launches FireFox and attempts to connect to http://localhost:1295/WebSite1/Default.aspx (for example), but after about 10-15 seconds it displays a "Connection Interrupted - The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." Error. This issue is also present with older ASP.NET C# pages/Web Services I've built in the past, nothing is actually running off the ASP.NET Development server. I am using: Windows XP Pro SP2, Visual Studio 2008 For reference I have SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition installed as well. I have tried: Browsing it with IE instead of Mozilla Trying 2.0 framework instead of 3.5 Reinstalling Visual Studio 2008 This problem seems so trivial the more I think about it, but I havn't been able to work it out just yet! Appreciate any help on the matter.

• Monitoring outgoing internet traffic

  Is there a way to monitoring internet traffic programatically? I would like to log the pages users are visiting on the Internet. Can this be achieved with .NET code, is there a 3rd party .NET component that could be used to retrieved data. Information about Internet traffic must be stored to a database so I cannot use a plugin or something for IE. We are also looking to include this code into our existing product so we cannot use a 3rd party product that cannot be redistributed. It would be cool if this thing could monitor traffic for all browsers but monitoring IE traffic might also be sufficient.

  Hi, I have a enterprise application converted from VS2003 to vs2005 . The converted application, in one page i do edit and save i am getting this error. 'Multiple controls with the same ID 'hidWIPID0' were found But the same work fine in the code of vs2003 version without any error. Its a huge application with dynamic master pages and usercontrols etc..So i cant paste the exact code here. • Reuse ASP.NET Control Multiple Times on Page

  I feel somewhat foolish asking such a simple question, but I can't seem to find an answer. I'm new to ASP.NET (C#), but I'm learning by building a simple set of web pages that display a report. I have a variable that represents a company name. I need to output this variable in multiple places on the web page. The only way I have found to output a variable this is with: company_name.Text = "Acme Windows"; then <asp:literal id="company_name" runat="server" /> My problem is that I want to use company_name in multiple places on the page. Do I really have to create a separate variable holding the the same value for each time it is placed on the page? If I just copy the above XML code to all the places I want to show the variable it obviously creates a compile error since that ID is already defined. I feel like I'm missing something very obvious.

• Why would an ASP.NET site become veeeeeery slow after the network connection dropped?

  I have an ASP.NET 3.5 site published in IIS 7.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit. The pages are accessed over SSL One of our testers has determined that if, during a postback, he blocks network access on his PC, and then after a few seconds reconnects, our site becomes excruciatingly slow. Like 30 seconds per page load. If he hits the refresh button in his browser it stays slow. If he closes the tab, then re-opens it, it becomes fast again. This behavior happens with both IE 8 and the latest firefox. There are no event log entries on the server when this happens My question: - Has anyone seen this same behavior? - Does anyone have a theory as to what causes it?

  Hello, I'm in the progress of implementing a built-in help system based on QtHelp into my application. Since QtHelp is based on Qt's help collection files, I need to produce a set of HTML pages. Since I won't be writing the documentation alone (a few of my colleagues will write, too), I am looking for the best way to produce these files. We are internally using a Wiki, and I know that the documentation should be written in some kind of markup language instead of giving all authors a WYSIWYG HTML editor. So my question is, are there tools out there which help with the process of generating documentation that can be exported as a set of HTML files, and possibly, as PDFs, too?. Thanks in advance! Update: I'm already using Doxygen for C++ documentation generation. But I'm not exactly looking for an API-Documentation generator, but something like LaTeX, which allows you to format the documentation contents like a markup document (much like a Wiki).

• Why would a FaceBook application "work" on a profile, but not a page?

  I made a FaceBook application that works fine on profiles, but I can't figure out how to get it to show on a FaceBook page. For example, after I visit the application canvas URL, allow the application, then edit application settings and "add" to box and tab view... I cannot click the "plus" symbol to the left of the tabs in order to add a tab for the application. It does not appear in the list of available applications. Meanwhile, the application is working/showing up on profiles with no issues. I DID check the "Installable to Pages" checkbox on the application (authentication tab) settings. What could cause this? This code is part of myWebApp/WepPage1.aspx, yes both aspx pages are on the same webapp. What I want to accomplish is to get WebPage2.aspx html response, put it on an email and send it from WebPage1.aspx.   Hi, I'm planning on implementing a google site search (and paying for it so I can get access to the XML). One thing I am wondering about is the possibility to use custom meta tags in it. I've heard yes from colleagues but nothing confirmed. Searching for an answer has given nothing (maybe because you cant?) Anybody knows?   Linking to external file in Ruby on Rails I have a file I want to share as a link in my rails app. I create a link to it in the .erb file like this <li><a href="somefile.pdf">Some File</a> </li> When I select the link I get the following error. Routing Error No route matches "/pages/somefile.pdf" with {:method=:get} Do I really need a route for this? I really just want the save as dialog to popup. Just a link to a file that the user can open or download. What is the rails way to do this (rails newbie here)?

• ASP.net Text Box Enter button pressed hell

  Basically I have an asp.net website with login and search pages. Currently, I have no idea why, when ever a user hits enter in either of the login text boxes (user name/password) or in the Seach text box, the website is redirected to the default page. I have no idea why this is happening, I've tried setting defaultButton on both the panel containing the search and the login panel but that doesnt seem to work. I've also tried catching the key press event with javascript which isnt working either. I have no idea what event is being fired and why, or why it seems to override everything I try to do. Anyone seen anything like this before?

• (php) how to properly 'save' info in forms completed thus far

  So i have a form that on paper is 40 pages long. I was going to take the natural sections of this form, and make separate html forms for each section, with the idea that on the first page there would be a first form, then you hit 'Continue to next section' which essentially is the 'submit' button, which moves the user to section two, etc, until they hit the last section. i am not actually storing the results of the form in a database, but rather sending an email. the idea then is to store the separate form answers (one html form per section in the real form) as arrays or objects in the session, so that if they go back to a section in the form, it repopulates the values they entered since they are stored in the session. the result would be an array in the session storing the results for each of my forms, and i have one form for each section. my question is: is it secure to temporarily store things like SSNs or driver's license numbers as session variables? why or why not?

• django templating system inheritance issue

  hi, i am having issues with my django templating system, i have a base.html file, which contains the content which will be common on all the web pages of the web site, the base.html file fetches some dynamic content, like the categories and the archives, which are passed to it by a python file, which fetches the categories and the archives data from a mysql database. the issue when i inherit this base.html file in other html files like index.html: {% extends "base.html" %} and when when i call the main index URL for ex: http://mywebsite.com/index/ the index page gets loaded, but the categories and the archives data that should get loaded from the base.html file does not. what am i doing wrong, please help.

  Hello, I have a Win Sever 2003 running IIS 6.0 which has only my main website on it and now I am trying to setup a test website which currently is an exact duplicate of the main site. When accessing my main site everything works fine, and has done for a long time. If I access the test site (through 'test.' subdomain) I get this error: Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126' Include file not found /html/shop/asp/admin/inc/incWeeklySpecialswide3.asp, line 71 The include file '/html/asp/quickfindwithSuburbs31.asp' was not found. The file actually exists, and the paths are correct. I have enabled Parent Paths, replaced the include file path to the full path (http://foo.com/html/asp -etc.), removing the ' / ' at the start of the path and changing the code from ' include ' to ' virtual '.   I'm stumped! We have a user control for managing account information. We use this particular control on two pages. On one page, everything works perfectly and meets our expectation. • filtering itunes library items by file location

  3 answers and unfortunately no solution yet. The Problem I've got way more than 1000 duplicated items in my iTunes Library pointing to a non-existant place (the "where" under "get info" window), along with other duplicated items and other MIAs (Missing In Action). Is there any simple way to just delete all of them and only them? From the library, of course. By that I mean some MIAs are pointing to /Volumes while some are pointing to .../music/Music/... or just .../music/.... I want to delete all pointing to /Volumes as to later I'll recover the rest. Check the image below. Some Background I tried searching for a specific key word on the path and creating smart play list, but with no result. Being able to just sort all library by path would be a perfect solution! I believe old iTunes could do that. PowerTunes can do it (sort by path) but I can't do anything with its list. I would also welcome any program able to handle this, then import and properly export back the iTunes library. Since this seems to just not be clear enough... AppleScript doesn't work That's because AppleScript just can't gather the missing info anywhere in iTunes Library. Maybe we could use AppleScript by opening the XML file, but that's a whole nother issue. My cmd looks something like... gmcs Pages/UserProfile.cs Properties/AssemblyInfo.cs queues.cs watch_editor.cs Class1.cs -define:USE_SQLITE -r:System -r:System.Collections -r:System.Collections.Generic -r:System.Collections.ObjectModel -r:System.Collections.Specialized -r:System.Configuration but much long. and i get the output error CS0006: cannot find metadata file `System.Collections' error CS0006: cannot find metadata file `System.Collections.Generic' error CS0006: cannot find metadata file `System.Collections.ObjectModel' ... How do i solve this? • Implementing Multilingual web site using ASP.Net

  Hi all, I am implementing an multilingual web site using ASP.Net. The languages are English,French and Arabic. Please note that Arabic's direction is RTL. What is the best way to implement the multilingual support. I am planning to use the .Net localization feature but the website texts are stored in DB. For the controls ( form controls) , I can used resx file. Do I need to build two different pages ( one for LTR and another for RTL )? Or can I have one ASPx file for all the three languages?
