  • Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard: Locks MS Office files, but not Adobe .AI and .PSD files?

    We have some shares setup on a Windows 2003 R2 server, and the MS Office files people save behave properly: The first person to open the file gets read/write, and the second person to open the file while the first person still has the file open, gets a read-only version. This is not true for the graphics files, like Adobe Illustrator .AI files, and Photoshop .PSD files. Anyone who goes to open these files has full read/write, even if someone else is already working on the file! This has lead to numerous file corruption issues, as well as other lost work, since it always saves the last changes to the file. How do we get Windows to properly lock these files so when someone is working on a file, and someone else wants to open one, they get read-only access? Many thanks, Bruce

    I have lighttpd setup on a machine (say ip is 10.107.105.13) with following details. inet addr : 10.107.105.13 Bcast : 10.107.111.255 Mask : 255.255.240.0 I can access my site on this computer by using firefox http://localhost/index.html. Now I am trying to access this site from another computer with following details inet addr : 10.14.42.7 Bcast : 10.14.42.255 Mask : 255.255.255.0 But it says 'access denied'. nmap 10.107.105.13 gives the following output. I will write a unit test for specifying the behavior of an Ajax request and will write another unit test for specifying the behavior of a normal HTTP request. Both Ajax request and normal request will be handled by a single action method. So the ASP.NET MVC action method will be execute HTTP Request object’s IsAjaxRequest method for identifying whether it is an Ajax request or not.     We are just switching from a hierarchy based game engine to a component based game engine. My problem is that when I load a model which has has a hierarchy of meshes and the way I understand is that a entity in a component based system can not have multiple components of the same type, but I need a "meshComponent" for each mesh in a model.   • Always keep files updated in Eclipse

    I keep lots of files/editors open in Eclipse. I also love using git stash and other git commands that essentially change the contents of my open files. Is there an Eclipse feature or plugin that will always keep the contents of my open files up to date and live? Currently if I put focus in an out of sync editor, I get an awkwardly worded dialog that I have to parse carefully every time. I wish it would just keep me synced like Textmate does.

  • All files trying to start in Notepad

    This question has been asked, but the solutions given were worthless to me because ALL files are trying to open in Notepad. I mistakenly associated all exe files with Notepad and everything is trying to open within Notepad now. That includes regedit, so suggesting I use regedit to doctor files does not work (cmd window will not open from Winkey + R - Run). It also includes any program I download to fix the issue. I also can not right click and choose Open With because that is not a given option when right clicking on a majority of files, at least none of the exe files I want to start. Yes, I tried it on the program files, not the shortcut. I also can not use System Restore because it, too, tries to open in Notepad. I've been banging my head uselessly on this for hours. Could someone help me out?

    Have you given Google Wave a try, only to find it difficult to keep up with?  Here’s how you can integrate Google Wave with your desktop and workflow with some free and simple apps. Google Wave is an online web app, and unlike many Google services, it’s not easily integrated with standard desktop applications.  Instead, you’ll have to keep it open in a browser tab, and since it is one of the most intensive HTML5 webapps available today, you may notice slowdowns in many popular browsers.  Plus, it can be hard to stay on top of your Wave conversations and collaborations by just switching back and forth between the website and whatever else you’re working on.  Here we’ll look at some tools that can help you integrate Google Wave with your workflow, and make it feel more native in Windows. Use Google Wave Directly in Windows What’s one of the best ways to make a web app feel like a native application?  By making it into a native application, of course!  Waver is a free Air powered app that can make the mobile version of Google Wave feel at home on your Windows, Mac, or Linux desktop.  We found it to be a quick and easy way to keep on top of our waves and collaborate with our friends. To get started with Waver, open their homepage on the Adobe Air Marketplace (link below) and click Download From Publisher. Waver is powered by Adobe Air, so if you don’t have Adobe Air installed, you’ll need to first download and install it. After clicking the link above, Adobe Air will open a prompt asking what you wish to do with the file.  Click Open, and then install as normal. Once the installation is finished, enter your Google Account info in the window.   After a few moments, you’ll see your Wave account in miniature, running directly in Waver.  Click a Wave to view it, or click New wave to start a new Wave message.  Unfortunately, in our tests the search box didn’t seem to work, but everything else worked fine. Google Wave works great in Waver, though all of the Wave features are not available since it is running the mobile version of Wave. You can still view content from plugins, including YouTube videos, directly in Waver.   Get Wave Notifications From Your Windows Taskbar Most popular email and Twitter clients give you notifications from your system tray when new messages come in.  And with Google Wave Notifier, you can now get the same alerts when you receive a new Wave message. Head over to the Google Wave Notifier site (link below), and click the download link to get started.  Make sure to download the latest Binary zip, as this one will contain the Windows program rather than the source code. Unzip the folder, and then run GoogleWaveNotifier.exe. On first run, you can enter your Google Account information.  Notice that this is not a standard account login window; you’ll need to enter your email address in the Username field, and then your password below it. You can also change other settings from this dialog, including update frequency and whether or not to run at startup.  Click the value, and then select the setting you want from the dropdown menu. Now, you’ll have a new Wave icon in your system tray.  When it detects new Waves or unread updates, it will display a popup notification with details about the unread Waves.  Additionally, the icon will change to show the number of unread Waves.  Click the popup to open Wave in your browser.  Or, if you have Waver installed, simply open the Waver window to view your latest Waves. If you ever need to change settings again in the future, right-click the icon and select Settings, and then edit as above. Get Wave Notifications in Your Email  Most of us have Outlook or Gmail open all day, and seldom leave the house without a Smartphone with push email.  And thanks to a new Wave feature, you can still keep up with your Waves without having to change your workflow. To activate email notifications from Google Wave, login to your Wave account, click the arrow beside your Inbox, and select Notifications. Select how quickly you want to receive notifications, and choose which email address you wish to receive the notifications.  Click Save when you’re finished. Now you’ll receive an email with information about new and updated Waves in your account.  If there were only small changes, you may get enough info directly in the email; otherwise, you can click the link and open that Wave in your browser. Conclusion Google Wave has great potential as a collaboration and communications platform, but by default it can be hard to keep up with what’s going on in your Waves.  These apps for Windows help you integrate Wave with your workflow, and can keep you from constantly logging in and checking for new Waves.  And since Google Wave registration is now open for everyone, it’s a great time to give it a try and see how it works for yourself.     In this question I do not want to customize the launcher for each workspace, or change the animations or behaviors of the icons. I only want to change how the background of the Launcher looks. Let me show you what I mean: If I do not open the Dash, the launcher looks like the following: It looks like this because I have a background that has gray, black and white colors. So Unity tries to accommodate the launcher to contrast with it. Now when I open the Dash, the launcher looks like this: What I want is to make the launcher look the same as if my Dash were open (Darker, richer background). I thought maybe to invert the colors of an opened Dash with a closed one, but that the end I do not care if the colors do change when I open the Dash, so long as the darker richer version stays. Is it possible to do this, to make the background stay with a darker color like shown in the pictures above?

  • Image file can't be opened by windows store app if the file is in the Ext4's external hard disk

    My question is described below: I have two disks, external hard disk and removable disk. They are formatted with EXT4. I put the same image in the disks, and use Ext2Fsd to mount the disks. I open the file in win8, and it will default open by the windows store app : photos. It will be success to open if the file is in the Ext4's removable disk. It will be failed to open if the file is in the Ext4's external hard disk. I don't know why it will be failed to open if the file is in the Ext4's external hard disk. Does anyone have similar experiences?

    I think that my printer stopped working with the switch to gnome 3 or unity. Yes I have tried 32 and 64 bit os's. Here is the driver In order to actually install the driver, you need to extract it and then open up terminal and type sudo and then a space. Then drag the script into the terminal window.     For example, if I'm using some MVC-like architecture, which folder structure should I use: domain1/ controller model view domain2/ controller model view Or: controllers/ domain1 domain2 models/ domain1 domain2 views/ domain1 domain2 I deliberately left out file extensions to keep this question language-agnostic. Personally, I'd prefer to separate by business domain (gut feeling), but I see that most/many frameworks separate by technical domain. Why whould I choose one over the other?

  • OpenGL - Calculating camera view matrix

    Problem I am calculating the model, view and projection matrices independently to be used in my shader as follows: gl_Position = projection * view * model * vec4(in_Position, 1.0); When I try to calculate my camera's view matrix the Z axis is flipped and my camera seems like it is looking backwards. My program is written in C# using the OpenTK library. Translation (Working) I've created a test scene as follows: From my understanding of the OpenGL coordinate system they are positioned correctly. The model matrix is created using: Matrix4 translation = Matrix4.CreateTranslation(modelPosition); Matrix4 model = translation; The view matrix is created using: Matrix4 translation = Matrix4.CreateTranslation(-cameraPosition); Matrix4 view = translation; Rotation (Not-Working) I now want to create the camera's rotation matrix. To do this I use the camera's right, up and forward vectors: // Hard coded example orientation: // Normally calculated from up and forward // Similar to look-at camera. Vector3 r = Vector.UnitX; Vector3 u = Vector3.UnitY; Vector3 f = -Vector3.UnitZ; Matrix4 rot = new Matrix4( r.X, r.Y, r.Z, 0, u.X, u.Y, u.Z, 0, f.X, f.Y, f.Z, 0, 0.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f); This results in the following matrix being created: I know that multiplying by the identity matrix would produce no rotation. This is clearly not the identity matrix and therefore will apply some rotation. I thought that because this is aligned with the OpenGL coordinate system is should produce no rotation. Is this the wrong way to calculate the rotation matrix? I then create my view matrix as: // OpenTK is row-major so the order of operations is reversed: Matrix4 view = translation * rot; Rotation almost works now but the -Z/+Z axis has been flipped, with the green cube now appearing closer to the camera. It seems like the camera is looking backwards, especially if I move it around. My goal is to store the position and orientation of all objects (including the camera) as: Vector3 position; Vector3 up; Vector3 forward; Apologies for writing such a long question and thank you in advance. I've tried following tutorials/guides from many sites but I keep ending up with something wrong.   • apt-get install is not able to access /etc

    I put together an ubuntu 12.04 server a couple of weeks ago and everything seemed fine until this morning. Suddenly, I'm having trouble installing new packages - at first I thought there was something wrong with tinyproxy and so I tried installing squid instead. However, I get similar results: Starting tinyproxy: tinyproxy: Could not open config file "/etc/tinyproxy.conf".\ ... /var/lib/dpkg/info/squid3.postinst: 1: /var/lib/dpkg/info/squid3.postinst: cannot open /etc/squid3/squid.conf: No such file It seems that apt-get is not creating the configuration files needed for these programs. I haven't modified any configuration or user groups since the last successful update/install of packages. /etc is present, and is populated with a nice healthy tree of configuration files. It is owned and grouped to root, and has the properties drwxr-xr-x - all the files and folders inside seem to be fine to, as far as I can tell. I've even been able to edit/save a couple as sudo.   • How to assign hotkeys in OSX-snow-leopard

    I am trying to assign a hotkey to open a folder in snow leopard. For example, in windows i could simply press the Windows+E to open the My Computer folder (or manually assign whatever folder i wanted to open). Is there a way to get this same behavior in OSX? I want to be able to launch applications, and open folder with my own keyboard mappings. For launching applications I use automator, create a service that receives no input to 'launch application' (from the utilities library). Then i can assign a keyboard shortcut to this service. Now i can launch applications with keyboard shortcuts. I still dont know how to open a folder. I know this can be done using quicksilver - but am looking for an organic approach that does not require any additional installs.
