    For a long time when creating images for my development environment, I had to install the OS and then sysprep.  Only after that would I then create a differencing drive/image that would have SQL Server. So, the thought of having a base/core image for SQL Server as a template was not easily done.  Well, how do things change?  SQL Server 2008 R2 gives us the option now.     I decided to create a Ubuntu USB installer using the Universal USB Installer, selecting a Ubuntu 12.10 ISO. I selected my D: drive, my NON-windows7 carrying drive as install. After this I Re-booted my system and my PC began to Run the Ubuntu Boot-startscreen every time I power up the machine, giving errors like this: Root=Unknown I used my girlfriend's laptop to create, on the exact same way, a real! USB Ubuntu installer. Booting from that USB, picking the option Run Ubuntu from this USB I get the following error: http://postimage.org/image/63qkv98c1/ Let's try installing it from that USB to a Hard-Disk: http://postimage.org/image/usqbwymfx/ As I said: I do not have the Option to pick my Boot-section, at this very moment I can only access to the Ubuntu installation and nothing else. I've read about 90% of other Questions that could've been related, but I could not find a solution. BTW I'm running a Acer Aspire 2Quadcore 4gb DDR 2 Ati Radeon HD, 64bit and I've set my Bios OS-usage from Windows to "Others"

  • USB disk not recognized after detaching from DVD player. What to do?

    I had one Transcend 4GB USB stick formatted to NTFS and was working fine. Today I inserted this disk into a DVD player, and it was saying, "loading". After a long time, noting happened, and it seemed that the stick (NTFS) is not recognized by it. I took out the stick and tried to reformat to FAT32. But the stick is not being recognized in my machine (Ubuntu 12.04). I tried the advices from USB drive not recognized after Erase Disk, without any success. When I tried Disk Utility, the stick is indicated as a generic device. See image, Formatting this device fails, saying, No medium found. Again see image, gparted does not even list this device. The same thing happens for fdisk. It is not listed there. Have I totally lost this stick? What should I do?

  • No analog audio in 13.10

    I've installed 13.10 on a machine that was previously running Windows 8, and audio output isn't working out of the box. It worked fine in Windows, and the speakers work fine when hooked up to a laptop, so it must an incompatibility between Ubuntu and the motherboard. If I go to sound settings, "Built-in Audio" is selected (SPDIF is also available). This is an Intel Z77 motherboard with an integrated Creative CA0132 sound chipset. I've tried booting a live image of 13.10 (to check for a corrupt install), and the same problem exists. If I boot a live image of 13.04, the only audio output listed in sound settings is a "dummy" card. I've already tried basic troubleshooting steps, such as removing pulseaudio config directories, force-restarting alsa, and making sure the speakers aren't muted in the alsa mixer. At this point, I'm totally stumped :(

    I did an apt-get dist-upgrade, now everytime I do something using apt-get, e.g. installing something, it gives me that there are errors while handling the following packages: linux-image-extra-3.13.0-35-generic linux-image-generic linux-generic My system still works correctly, but is this normal? And what should I do? Should I do anything? Have I done the wrong thing by doing a dist-upgrade? (Beginner-like instructions please, I'm not an expert. Using Xubuntu 14.04.)

    I'm after a virtual printer which takes each page of "printed" output and converts into multiple images (one image for each page)... eg. .jpg, or .png, etc.. I'm specifically looking for something to work with Open-Office Writer, but I assume that such a virtual printer would work across the board for any app which can send its output to a "printer". Is there such a thing in the Ubuntu repository? PS. I want one "normal" picture image per page.. ie Many images are output. ...(like the Snagit virtual printer in Windows)

    Before using lwjgl, i used the Graphic method, and there i displayed imageicons, and i had the picture file located in the resources. I used: ImageIcon tcard = new ImageIcon(this.getClass().getResource("RCA.png")); to load the image. Now when i load textures in lwjgl, i have to use absolute paths to locate the file: tcard = TextureLoader.getTexture("PNG", ResourceLoader.getResourceAsStream("C:/RCA.png")); I tried googling, but i didn't find anything helpful... How can i load the image from the local resources like in the first example?

  • USB keyboard does not load after 13.10 upgrade

    Problem: Running kernel 3.11.0-12-generic after a Ubuntu upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10 my USB keyboard is not recognised, thus I am not able to unlock my encrypted disk. I suspect it might be related to a minimal/incorrect install of initrd. Question: How do I go about getting the newest kernel to recognise my generic USB keyboard, allowing me to unlock my encrypted disk? What I have tried: I have already re-installed the newest kernel: sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-image-generic linux-image and I have also updated the initrd: update-initramfs -c -k 3.11.0-12-generic Back story: I just completed upgrading my Ubuntu system from 13.04 to 13.10. When I subsequently rebooted by system I was no longer able to enter my encryption password (passphrase) as the keyboard drivers did not load. Temporary workaround: Earlier in the boot process (before the keyboard stops working) I was able to enter GRUB menu were I choose to boot from an older kernel (3.8.0-31-generic) which did load the USB keyboard drivers. This is currently the kernel I am running. Thanks

I ran: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade At this point i was told that some packages were kept back: The following packages have been kept back: landscape-common linux-headers-server linux-image-server linux-server I proceeded to install those and then to autoremove the kernel (that's what apt-get recommended): sudo apt-get install linux-headers-server linux-image-server linux-server sudo apt-get autoremove My problem is that after booting, and running uname -a i still get the 2.6.32.34 kernel. How can I guarantee that the latest kernel will be loaded? thank you in advance.

    I am writing a function to label the connected component in an image (I know there are several libraries outside, I just wanted to play with the algorithm). To do this I label the connected regions with different labels and create an equivalence table that contain information on the labels belonging to the same connected component. As an example if my equivalence table (vector of vector) looks something like: 1: 1,3 2: 2,3 3: 1,2,3 4: 4 It means that in the image there are 2 different regions, one made of elements that are labelled 1,2,3 and an other made of elements labelled 4. What is an easy and efficient way to resolve the equivalences and end up with something that looks like: 1: 1,2,3 2: 4 that I can use to "merge" the different connected regions belonging to the same connected component?     I am trying to build a minimal vmware image to use for private browsing (also called a browser appliance). I have tried using images for other small linux distros, most of them are either too heavy (I do not want any other functionality than browsing and downloading) or outdated (DSL, various browser appliance images at vmware official site). I have downloaded the minimal Ubuntu install image (12MB) and was hoping to select only the needed pakcages while installing but it was not asking for my choices anywhere.   • GPU optimization question: pre-computed or procedural?

    Good morning, I'm learning shader program and need some general direction. I want to add noise to my laser beam (like this). Which is the best way to handle it? I could pre-compute an image and pass it to the shader. I could then use the image to change the opacity and easily animate the smoke by changing the offset of the texture lookup. I could also generate noise in the shader and do the same thing the texture was used for. Is it generally better to avoid I/O to the graphics card or the opposite? Thanks!

  • Is there a way to specify a CSS3 transition to occur only on :hover and when returning from hover, not on every event? [closed]

    You could define the transition on the :hover event, which causes the browser to render only the effect into the hover and not out of it. a:hover { transition... } Using scale as an example, an image being scaled up would scale up on hover, but go straight back down without any transition when the cursor leaves the image. Or, you can set the transition on the element directly: a { transition... } Which by definition means any change that effects the scale of the element such as any developer set styles will work, but also the user zooming in and out the page, will cause there to be a transition. All the tutorials being spewed onto the internet at the moment point to using the latter, but wouldn't one consider this a usability flaw for anyone wanting to resize the page or taking any other action that may cause similar scenarios? Pages with large amounts of transitional hover scaling can go pretty mental if you zoom in and out of them.

    I'm building a management system for websites and I had an idea related to image galleries that I'm not sure it's a good approach. Since images might need good deals of space depending on how much images a user uploads an so on, I thought on using cloud services like dropbox, mega and google drive to store images and load then when needed. The obvious problem is that for me this seems a useless solution because it would be slow to download the images from the remote source, making the user experience not so good. Is there any way to save images of a image gallery on remote source without getting the user experience bad because of speed? Or this is really not a good practice?
