  • How to use Rx to asynchronously query Twitter search ?

    - by Jalfp
Hi, I'm thinking about using Rx (Reactive Framework) in order to asynchronously query Twitter search API on a given keyword. The sample app I'd like to build should be able to display new tweets in the console. Do you think it is possible to do that ? Would it be simpler than using standard programming techniques ? How would you do that ? Thank ! Jeremy

Programming languages offer different paradigms, so there it makes sense to choose a specific language for your purpose. What are factors to choose a specific DB management system ?

  • Android: Learning the platform, have any app suggestions?

    - by David
I'm beginning to learn mobile programming on the Android platform. I'm up for working with any particular base SDK. I just want to hear some suggestions from the community about what types of applications I should start with to help learn more advanced interactions with the platform. There are of course the Standard Hello World, calculator, etc. But by now I am bored with all of those. What do you all make when learning a new language?

  • A Beginners' Guide to Learning JavaScript?

    - by CloseDiamond
There's a few mentions of Javascript newbies getting starting by checking out some of Douglas Crockford's work (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11246/best-resources-to-learn-javascript), but none of his resources seem to be for those looking to learn from the ground up. Are there any suggestions for complete beginners regarding how best to learn JavaScript? Personally I have plenty of HTML and CSS experience, and some PHP (which would help learning JS), but for those that don't know any programming language what would you recommend?

    - by thiol3
New to programming, I am trying to graph the following Gaussian function in Matlab (should graph in 3 dimensions) but am making some mistakes somewhere. What is wrong? sigma = 1 for i = 1:20 for j = 1:20 z(i,j) = (1/(2*pi*sigma^2))*exp(-(i^2+j^2)/(2*sigma^2)); end end surf(z)

  • How to filter a list in J?

    - by Gregory Higley
I'm currently learning the fascinating J programming language, but one thing I have not been able to figure out is how to filter a list. Suppose I have the arbitrary list 3 2 2 7 7 2 9 and I want to remove the 2s but leave everything else unchanged, i.e., my result would be 3 7 7 9. How on earth do I do this?

  • Interesting task using random numbers only

    - by psihodelia
Given any number of the random real numbers from the interval [0,1] is there exist any method to construct a floating point number with zero decimal part? Your algorithm can use only random() function calls and no variables or constants. No constants and variables are allowed, no type casting is allowed. You can use for/while, if/else or any other programming language operands.

  • Real world examples of Rx

    - by theburningmonk
I've been playing around with the Reactive Extension for a little while now, but mostly limited to handling/composing user driven events within a WPF frontend. It's such a powerful, new way of doing async programming, and I'm curious as to what other people are doing with it, and where do you think it might be able to improve the way we're currently doing things?
