  • Why does this cast to Base class in virtual function give a segmentation fault?

    - by dehmann
    I want to print out a derived class using the operator<<. When I print the derived class, I want to first print its base and then its own content. But I ran into some trouble (see segfault below): class Base { public: friend std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream&, const Base&); virtual void Print(std::ostream& out) const { out << "BASE!"; } }; std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream& out, const Base& b) { b.Print(out); return out; } class Derived : public Base { public: virtual void Print(std::ostream& out) const { out << "My base: "; //((const Base*)this)->Print(out); // infinite, calls this fct recursively //((Base*)this)->Print(out); // segfault (from infinite loop?) ((Base)*this).Print(out); // OK out << " ... and myself."; } }; int main(int argc, char** argv){ Derived d; std::cout << d; return 0; } Why can't I cast in one of these ways? ((const Base*)this)->Print(out); // infinite, calls this fct recursively ((Base*)this)->Print(out); // segfault (from infinite loop?)

  • unix at command pass variable to shell script?

    - by Andrew
    Hi, I'm trying to setup a simple timer that gets started from a Rails Application. This timer should wait out its duration and then start a shell script that will start up ./script/runner and complete the initial request. I need script/runner because I need access to ActiveRecord. Here's my test lines in Rails output = `at #{(Time.now + 60).strftime("%H:%M")} < #{Rails.root}/lib/parking_timer.sh STRING_VARIABLE` return render :text => output Then my parking_timer.sh looks like this #!/bin/sh ~/PATH_TO_APP/script/runner -e development ~/PATH_TO_APP/lib/ParkingTimer.rb $1 echo "All Done" Finally, ParkingTimer.rb reads the passed variable with ARGV.each do|a| puts "Argument: #{a}" end The problem is that the Unix command "at" doesn't seem to like variables and only wants to deal with filenames. I either get one of two errors depending on how I position "s If I put quotes around the right hand side like so ... "~/PATH_TO_APP/lib/parking_timer.sh STRING_VARIABLE" I get, -bash: ~/PATH_TO_APP/lib/parking_timer.sh STRING_VARIABLE: No such file or directory I I leave the quotes out, I get, at: garbled time This is all happening on a Mac OS 10.6 box running Rails 2.3 & Ruby 1.8.6 I've already messed around w/ BackgrounDrb, and decided its a total PITA. I need to be able to cancel the job at any time before it is due.

  • When is a>a true ?

    - by Cricri
    Right, I think I really am living a dream. I have the following piece of code which I compile and run on an AIX machine: AIX 3 5 PowerPC_POWER5 processor type IBM XL C/C++ for AIX, V10.1 Version: 10.01.0000.0003 #include <stdio.h> #include <math.h> #define RADIAN(x) ((x) * acos(0.0) / 90.0) double nearest_distance(double radius,double lon1, double lat1, double lon2, double lat2){ double rlat1=RADIAN(lat1); double rlat2=RADIAN(lat2); double rlon1=lon1; double rlon2=lon2; double a=0,b=0,c=0; a = sin(rlat1)*sin(rlat2)+ cos(rlat1)*cos(rlat2)*cos(rlon2-rlon1); printf("%lf\n",a); if (a > 1) { printf("aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa\n"); } b = acos(a); c = radius * b; return radius*(acos(sin(rlat1)*sin(rlat2)+ cos(rlat1)*cos(rlat2)*cos(rlon2-rlon1))); } int main(int argc, char** argv) { nearest_distance(6367.47,10,64,10,64); return 0; } Now, the value of 'a' after the calculation is reported as being '1'. And, on this AIX machine, it looks like 1 1 is true as my 'if' is entered !!! And my acos of what I think is '1' returns NanQ since 1 is bigger than 1. May I ask how that is even possible ? I do not know what to think anymore ! The code works just fine on other architectures where 'a' really takes the value of what I think is 1 and acos(a) is 0.

  • how is data stored at bit level according to "Endianness" ?

    - by bakra
    I read about Endianness and understood squat... so I wrote this main() { int k = 0xA5B9BF9F; BYTE *b = (BYTE*)&k; //value at *b is 9f b++; //value at *b is BF b++; //value at *b is B9 b++; //value at *b is A5 } k was equal to "A5 B9 BF 9F" and (byte)pointer "walk" o/p was "9F BF b9 A5" so I get it bytes are stored backwards...ok. ~ so now I thought how is it stored at BIT level... I means is "9f"(1001 1111) stored as "f9"(1111 1001)? so I wrote this int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { int k = 0xA5B9BF9F; void *ptr = &k; bool temp= TRUE; cout<<"ready or not here I come \n"< for(int i=0;i<32;i++) { temp = *( (bool*)ptr + i ); if( temp ) cout<<"1 "; if( !temp) cout<<"0 "; if(i==7||i==15||i==23) cout<<" - "; } } I get some random output even for nos. like "32" I dont get anything sensible. why ?

  • Creating and using a static lib in xcode

    - by Alasdair Morrison
    I am trying to create a static library in xcode and link to that static library from another program. So as a test i have created a BSD static C library project and just added the following code: //Test.h int testFunction(); //Test.cpp #include "Test.h" int testFunction() { return 12; } This compiles fine and create a .a file (libTest.a). Now i want to use it in another program so I create a new xcode project (cocoa application) Have the following code: //main.cpp #include <iostream> #include "Testlib.h" int main (int argc, char * const argv[]) { // insert code here... std::cout << "Result:\n" <<testFunction(); return 0; } //Testlib.h extern int testFunction(); I right clicked on the project - add - existing framework - add other Selected the .a file and it added it into the project view. I always get this linker error: Build TestUselibrary of project TestUselibrary with configuration Debug Ld build/Debug/TestUselibrary normal x86_64 cd /Users/myname/location/TestUselibrary setenv MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET 10.6 /Developer/usr/bin/g++-4.2 -arch x86_64 -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.6.sdk -L/Users/myname/location/TestUselibrary/build/Debug -L/Users/myname/location/TestUselibrary/../Test/build/Debug -F/Users/myname/location/TestUselibrary/build/Debug -filelist /Users/myname/location/TestUselibrary/build/TestUselibrary.build/Debug/TestUselibrary.build/Objects-normal/x86_64/TestUselibrary.LinkFileList -mmacosx-version-min=10.6 -lTest -o /Users/myname/location/TestUselibrary/build/Debug/TestUselibrary Undefined symbols: "testFunction()", referenced from: _main in main.o ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status I am new to macosx development and fairly new to c++. I am probably missing something fairly obvious, all my experience comes from creating dlls on the windows platform. I really appreciate any help.

  • operator<< cannot output std::endl -- Fix?

    - by dehmann
    The following code gives an error when it's supposed to output just std::endl: #include <iostream> #include <sstream> struct MyStream { std::ostream* out_; MyStream(std::ostream* out) : out_(out) {} std::ostream& operator<<(const std::string& s) { (*out_) << s; return *out_; } }; template<class OutputStream> struct Foo { OutputStream* out_; Foo(OutputStream* out) : out_(out) {} void test() { (*out_) << "OK" << std::endl; (*out_) << std::endl; // ERROR } }; int main(int argc, char** argv){ MyStream out(&std::cout); Foo<MyStream> foo(&out); foo.test(); return EXIT_SUCCESS; } The error is: stream1.cpp:19: error: no match for 'operator<<' in '*((Foo<MyStream>*)this)->Foo<MyStream>::out_ << std::endl' stream1.cpp:7: note: candidates are: std::ostream& MyStream::operator<<(const std::string&) So it can output a string (see line above the error), but not just the std::endl, presumably because std::endl is not a string, but the operator<< definition asks for a string. Templating the operator<< didn't help: template<class T> std::ostream& operator<<(const T& s) { ... } How can I make the code work? Thanks!

  • Valgrind says "stack allocation," I say "heap allocation"

    - by Joel J. Adamson
    Dear Friends, I am trying to trace a segfault with valgrind. I get the following message from valgrind: ==3683== Conditional jump or move depends on uninitialised value(s) ==3683== at 0x4C277C5: sparse_mat_mat_kron (sparse.c:165) ==3683== by 0x4C2706E: rec_mating (rec.c:176) ==3683== by 0x401C1C: age_dep_iterate (age_dep.c:287) ==3683== by 0x4014CB: main (age_dep.c:92) ==3683== Uninitialised value was created by a stack allocation ==3683== at 0x401848: age_dep_init_params (age_dep.c:131) ==3683== ==3683== Conditional jump or move depends on uninitialised value(s) ==3683== at 0x4C277C7: sparse_mat_mat_kron (sparse.c:165) ==3683== by 0x4C2706E: rec_mating (rec.c:176) ==3683== by 0x401C1C: age_dep_iterate (age_dep.c:287) ==3683== by 0x4014CB: main (age_dep.c:92) ==3683== Uninitialised value was created by a stack allocation ==3683== at 0x401848: age_dep_init_params (age_dep.c:131) However, here's the offending line: /* allocate mating table */ age_dep_data->mtable = malloc (age_dep_data->geno * sizeof (double *)); if (age_dep_data->mtable == NULL) error (ENOMEM, ENOMEM, nullmsg, __LINE__); for (int j = 0; j < age_dep_data->geno; j++) { 131=> age_dep_data->mtable[j] = calloc (age_dep_data->geno, sizeof (double)); if (age_dep_data->mtable[j] == NULL) error (ENOMEM, ENOMEM, nullmsg, __LINE__); } What gives? I thought any call to malloc or calloc allocated heap space; there is no other variable allocated here, right?   • instantiate python object within a c function called via ctypes

    - by gwk
    My embedded Python 3.3 program segfaults when I instantiate python objects from a c function called by ctypes. After setting up the interpreter, I can successfully instantiate a python Int (as well as a custom c extension type) from c main: #import <Python/Python.h> #define LOGPY(x) \ { fprintf(stderr, "%s: ", #x); PyObject_Print((PyObject*)(x), stderr, 0); fputc('\n', stderr); } // c function to be called from python script via ctypes. void instantiate() { PyObject* instance = PyObject_CallObject((PyObject*)&PyLong_Type, NULL); LOGPY(instance); } int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { Py_Initialize(); instantiate(); // works fine // run a script that calls instantiate() via ctypes. FILE* scriptFile = fopen("emb.py", "r"); if (!scriptFile) { fprintf(stderr, "ERROR: cannot open script file\n"); return 1; } PyRun_SimpleFileEx(scriptFile, scriptPath, 1); // close on completion return 0; } I then run a python script using PyRun_SimpleFileEx. It appears to run just fine, but when it calls instantiate() via ctypes, the program segfaults inside PyObject_CallObject: import ctypes as ct dy = ct.CDLL('./emb') dy.instantiate() # segfaults lldb output: instance: 0 Process 52068 stopped * thread #1: tid = 0x1c03, 0x000000010000d3f5 Python`PyObject_Call + 69, stop reason = EXC_BAD_ACCESS (code=1, address=0x18) frame #0: 0x000000010000d3f5 Python`PyObject_Call + 69 Python`PyObject_Call + 69: -> 0x10000d3f5: movl 24(%rax), %edx 0x10000d3f8: incl %edx 0x10000d3fa: movl %edx, 24(%rax) 0x10000d3fd: leaq 2069148(%rip), %rax ; _Py_CheckRecursionLimit (lldb) bt * thread #1: tid = 0x1c03, 0x000000010000d3f5 Python`PyObject_Call + 69, stop reason = EXC_BAD_ACCESS (code=1, address=0x18) frame #0: 0x000000010000d3f5 Python`PyObject_Call + 69 frame #1: 0x00000001000d5197 Python`PyEval_CallObjectWithKeywords + 87 frame #2: 0x0000000201100d8e emb`instantiate + 30 at emb.c:9 Why does the call to instantiate() fail from ctypes only? The function only crashes when it calls into the python lib, so perhaps some interpreter state is getting munged by the ctypes FFI call?

  • Run AppleScript with Elevated Privileges from Objective C

    - by cygnl7
    I'm attempting to execute an uninstaller (written in AppleScript) through AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges. I'm setting up my rights after creating an empty auth ref like so: char *tool = "/usr/bin/osascript"; AuthorizationItem items = {kAuthorizationRightExecute, strlen(tool), tool, 0}; AuthorizationRights rights = {sizeof(items)/sizeof(AuthorizationItem), &items}; AuthorizationFlags flags = kAuthorizationFlagDefaults | kAuthorizationFlagExtendRights | kAuthorizationFlagPreAuthorize | kAuthorizationFlagInteractionAllowed; status = AuthorizationCopyRights(authorizationRef, &rights, NULL, flags, NULL); Later I call: status = AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges(authorizationRef, tool, kAuthorizationFlagDefaults, (char *const *)args, NULL); On Snow Leopard this works fine, but on Leopard I get the following in syslog.log: Apr 19 15:30:09 hostname /usr/bin/osascript[39226]: OpenScripting.framework - 'gdut' event blocked in process with mixed credentials (issetugid=0 uid=501 euid=0 gid=20 egid=20) Apr 19 15:30:12: --- last message repeated 1 time --- ... (-1708) After researching this for a few hours my first guess is that Leopard somehow doesn't want to do what I'm doing because it knows it's in a setuid situation and blocks calls that ask about user-specific things in the applescript. Am I going about this all wrong? I just want to run the equivalent of "sudo /usr/bin/osascript ..." Edit: FWIW, the first line that causes the "execution error" is: set userAppSupportPath to (POSIX path of (path to application support folder from user domain)) However, even with an empty script (on run argv, end run and that's it) I still get the 'gdut' message.

  • Objective-C autorelease pool not releasing object

    - by Chris
    Hi I am very new to Objective-C and was reading through memory management. I was trying to play around a bit with the NSAutoreleasePool but somehow it wont release my object. I have a class with a setter and getter which basically sets a NSString *name. After releasing the pool I tried to NSLog the object and it still works but I guess it should not? @interface TestClass : NSObject { NSString *name; } - (void) setName: (NSString *) string; - (NSString *) name; @end @implementation TestClass - (void) setName: (NSString *) string { name = string; } - (NSString *) name { return name; } @end int main (int argc, const char * argv[]) { NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; TestClass *var = [[TestClass alloc] init]; [var setName:@"Chris"]; [var autorelease]; [pool release]; // This should not be possible? NSLog(@"%@",[var name]); return 0; }

  • Ambiguous access to base class template member function

    - by Johann Gerell
    In Visual Studio 2008, the compiler cannot resolve the call to SetCustomer in _tmain below and make it unambiguous: template <typename TConsumer> struct Producer { void SetConsumer(TConsumer* consumer) { consumer_ = consumer; } TConsumer* consumer_; }; struct AppleConsumer { }; struct MeatConsumer { }; struct ShillyShallyProducer : public Producer<AppleConsumer>, public Producer<MeatConsumer> { }; int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { ShillyShallyProducer producer; AppleConsumer consumer; producer.SetConsumer(&consumer); // <--- Ambiguous call!! return 0; } This is the compilation error: // error C2385: ambiguous access of 'SetConsumer' // could be the 'SetConsumer' in base 'Producer<AppleConsumer>' // or could be the 'SetConsumer' in base 'Producer<MeatConsumer>' I thought the template argument lookup mechanism would be smart enough to deduce the correct base Producer. Why isn't it? I could get around this by changing Producer to template <typename TConsumer> struct Producer { template <typename TConsumer2> void SetConsumer(TConsumer2* consumer) { consumer_ = consumer; } TConsumer* consumer_; }; and call SetConsumer as producer.SetConsumer<AppleConsumer>(&consumer); // Unambiguous call!! but it would be nicer if I didn't have to...

  • Setting up a pc bluetooth server for android

    - by Del
    Alright, I've been reading a lot of topics the past two or three days and nothing seems to have asked this. I am writing a PC side server for my andriod device, this is for exchanging some information and general debugging. Eventually I will be connecting to a SPP device to control a microcontroller. I have managed, using the following (Android to pc) to connect to rfcomm channel 11 and exchange data between my android device and my pc. Method m = device.getClass().getMethod("createRfcommSocket", new Class[] { int.class }); tmp = (BluetoothSocket) m.invoke(device, Integer.valueOf(11)); I have attempted the createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord(UUID) method, with absolutely no luck. For the PC side, I have been using the C Bluez stack for linux. I have the following code which registers the service and opens a server socket: int main(int argc, char **argv) { struct sockaddr_rc loc_addr = { 0 }, rem_addr = { 0 }; char buf[1024] = { 0 }; char str[1024] = { 0 }; int s, client, bytes_read; sdp_session_t *session; socklen_t opt = sizeof(rem_addr); session = register_service(); s = socket(AF_BLUETOOTH, SOCK_STREAM, BTPROTO_RFCOMM); loc_addr.rc_family = AF_BLUETOOTH; loc_addr.rc_bdaddr = *BDADDR_ANY; loc_addr.rc_channel = (uint8_t) 11; bind(s, (struct sockaddr *)&loc_addr, sizeof(loc_addr)); listen(s, 1); client = accept(s, (struct sockaddr *)&rem_addr, &opt); ba2str( &rem_addr.rc_bdaddr, buf ); fprintf(stderr, "accepted connection from %s\n", buf); memset(buf, 0, sizeof(buf)); bytes_read = read(client, buf, sizeof(buf)); if( bytes_read 0 ) { printf("received [%s]\n", buf); } sprintf(str,"to Android."); I've tried a several different UUIDs and on two different computers, although I only have my HTC Incredible to test with. I've also heard some rumors that the BT stack wasn't working on the HTC Droid, but that isn't the case, at least, for PC interaction.

  • How to pass parameters to manage_shared_memory.construct() in Boost.Interprocess

    - by recipriversexclusion
    I've stared at the Boost.Interprocess documentation for hours but still haven't been able to figure this out. In the doc, they have an example of creating a vector in shared memory like so: //Define an STL compatible allocator of ints that allocates from the managed_shared_memory. //This allocator will allow placing containers in the segment typedef allocator<int, managed_shared_memory::segment_manager> ShmemAllocator; //Alias a vector that uses the previous STL-like allocator so that allocates //its values from the segment typedef vector<int, ShmemAllocator> MyVector; int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { //Create a new segment with given name and size managed_shared_memory segment(create_only, "MySharedMemory", 65536); //Initialize shared memory STL-compatible allocator const ShmemAllocator alloc_inst (segment.get_segment_manager()); //Construct a vector named "MyVector" in shared memory with argument alloc_inst MyVector *myvector = segment.construct<MyVector>("MyVector")(alloc_inst); Now, I understand this. What I'm stuck is how to pass a second parameter to segment.construct() to specify the number of elements. The interprocess document gives the prototype for construct() as MyType *ptr = managed_memory_segment.construct<MyType>("Name") (par1, par2...); but when I try MyVector *myvector = segment.construct<MyVector>("MyVector")(100, alloc_inst); I get compilation errors. My questions are: Who actually gets passed the parameters par1, par2 from segment.construct, the constructor of the object, e.g. vector? My understanding is that the template allocator parameter is being passed. Is that correct? How can I add another parameter, in addition to alloc_inst that is required by the constructor of the object being created in shared memory? There's very little information other than the terse Boost docs on this.

  • PyQt Drag and Drop - Nothing happens

  • Awk filtering values between two files when regions intersect (any solutions welcome)

    - by user964689
    This is building upon an earlier question Awk conditional filter one file based on another (or other solutions) I have an awk program that outputs a column from rows in a text file 'refGene.txt if values in that row match 2 out of 3 values in another text file. I need to include an additional criteria for finding a match between the two files. The criteria is inclusion if the range of the 2 numberical values specified in each row in file 1 overlap with the range of the two values in a row in refGene.txt. An example of a line in File 1: chr1 10 20 chr2 10 20 and an example line in file 2(refGene.txt) of the matching columns ($3, $5, $ 6): chr1 5 30 Currently the awk program does not treat this as a match because although the first column matches neither the 2nd or 3rd columns do no. But I would like a way to treat this as a match because the region 10-20 in file 1 is WITHIN the range of 5-30 in refGene.txt. However the second line in file 1 should NOT match because the first column does not match, which is necessary. If there is a way to include cases when any of the range in file 1 overlaps with any of the range in refGene.txt that would be really helpful. It should also replace the below conditional statements as it would also find all the cases currently described below. Please let me know if my question is unclear. Any help is really appreciated, thanks it advance! (solutions do not have to be in awk) Rubal FILES=/files/*txt for f in $FILES ; do awk ' BEGIN { FS = "\t"; } FILENAME == ARGV[1] { pair[ $1, $2, $3 ] = 1; next; } { if ( pair[ $3, $5, $6 ] == 1 ) { print $13; } } ' $(basename $f) /files/refGene.txt > /files/results/$(basename $f) ; done

  • std::locale breakage on MacOS 10.6 with LANG=en_US.UTF-8

    - by fixermark
    I have a C++ application that I am porting to MacOSX (specifically, 10.6). The app makes heavy use of the C++ standard library and boost. I recently observed some breakage in the app that I'm having difficulty understanding. Basically, the boost filesystem library throws a runtime exception when the program runs. With a bit of debugging and googling, I've reduced the offending call to the following minimal program: #include <locale> int main ( int argc, char *argv [] ) { std::locale::global(std::locale("")); return 0; } This program fails when I run this through g++ and execute the resulting program in an environment where LANG=en_US.UTF-8 is set (which on my computer is part of the default bash session when I create a new console window). Clearing the environment variable (setenv LANG=) allows the program to run without issues. But I'm surprised I'm seeing this breakage in the default configuration. My questions are: Is this expected behavior for this code on MacOS 10.6? What would a proper workaround be? I can't really re-write the function because the version of the boost libraries we are using executes this statement internally as part of the filesystem library. For completeness, I should point out that the program from which this code was synthesized crashes when launched via the 'open' command (or from the Finder) but not when Xcode runs the program in Debug mode. edit The error given by the above code on 10.6.1 is: $ ./locale terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error' what(): locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid Abort trap

  • extern and global in c

    - by JPro
    Can anyone please tell me is there any special requirement to use either EXTERN or GLOBAL variables in a C program? I do not see any difference in a program like below, if I change from gloabl to extern. #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> int myGlobalvar = 10; int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { int myFunc(int); int i; i = 12; myGlobalvar = 100; printf("Value of myGlobalvar is %d , i = %d\n", myGlobalvar, i); i = myFunc(10); printf("Value of passed value : %d\n",i); printf("again Value of myGlobalvar is %d , i = %d\n", myGlobalvar, i); system("PAUSE"); return 0; } int myFunc(int i) { i = 20 + 1000; //extern int myGlobalvar; myGlobalvar = 20000; // printf("Value of passed value : %d",i); return i; } If uncomment extern int myGlobalvar, the value does not change. Is there any correct difference between both? Can anyone please correct me?

"\n\n"; } } } # What parent process should do else { if ($args eq "cycle") { my $stop = 0; sleep(1); $SIG{ALRM} = sub { print "Expecting plant bed to be full; please check.\n"; $signalOut = $port->write('2'); # Signal to set pin 3 low print "Sent cmd: 2\n"; $stop = 1; }; $signalOut = $port->write('1'); # Signal to arduino to set pin 3 High print "Sent cmd: 1\n"; print "Waiting for plant bed to fill...\n"; alarm (420); while ($stop == 0) { sleep(2); } die "Done."; } else { sleep(1); my $choice = ' '; print "Please pick an option you'd like to use:\n"; while(1) { print " [1] Cycle [2] Relay OFF [3] Relay ON [4] Config [$lastChoice]: "; chomp($choice = <STDIN>); switch ($choice) { case /1/ { $SIG{ALRM} = sub { print "Expecting plant bed to be full; please check.\n"; $signalOut = $port->write('2'); # Signal to set pin 3 low print "Sent cmd: 2\n"; }; $signalOut = $port->write('1'); # Signal to arduino to set pin 3 High print "Sent cmd: 1\n"; print "Waiting for plant bed to fill...\n"; alarm (420); $lastChoice = $choice; } case /2/ { $signalOut = $port->write('2'); # Signal to set pin 3 low print "Sent cmd: 2"; $lastChoice = $choice; } case /3/ { $signalOut = $port->write('1'); # Signal to arduino to set pin 3 High print "Sent cmd: 1"; $lastChoice = $choice; } case /4/ { print "There is no configuration available yet. Please stab the developer."; } else { print "Please select a valid option.\n\n"; } } } } } Why wouldn't it die from the statement die "Done.";? It runs fine from the command line and also interprets the 'cycle' argument fine. When it runs in cron it runs fine, however, the process never dies and while each process doesn't continue to cycle the system it does seem to be looping in some way due to the fact that it ups my system load very quickly. If you'd like more information, just ask. EDIT: I have changed to code to: #!/usr/bin/perl -w # Sample Perl script to transmit number # to Arduino then listen for the Arduino # to echo it back use strict; use Device::SerialPort; use Switch; use Time::HiRes qw ( alarm ); $|++; # Set up the serial port # 19200, 81N on the USB ftdi driver my $device = '/dev/arduino0'; # Tomoc has to use a different tty for testing #$device = '/dev/ttyS0'; my $port = new Device::SerialPort ($device) or die('Unable to open connection to device');; $port->databits(8); $port->baudrate(19200); $port->parity("none"); $port->stopbits(1); my $lastChoice = ' '; my $signalOut; my $args = shift(@ARGV); # Parent must wait for child to exit before exiting itself on CTRL+C if ($args eq "cycle") { open (LOG, '>>log.txt'); print LOG "Cycle started.\n"; my $stop = 0; sleep(2); $SIG{ALRM} = sub { print "Expecting plant bed to be full; please check.\n"; $signalOut = $port->write('2'); # Signal to set pin 3 low print "Sent cmd: 2\n"; $stop = 1; }; $signalOut = $port->write('1'); # Signal to arduino to set pin 3 High print "Sent cmd: 1\n"; print "Waiting for plant bed to fill...\n"; print LOG "Alarm is being set.\n"; alarm (420); print LOG "Alarm is set.\n"; while ($stop == 0) { print LOG "In while-sleep loop.\n"; sleep(2); } print LOG "The loop has been escaped.\n"; die "Done."; print LOG "No one should ever see this."; } else { my $pid = fork(); $SIG{'INT'} = sub { waitpid($pid,0) if $pid != 0; exit(0); }; # What child process should do if($pid == 0) { # Poll to see if any data is coming in print "\nListening...\n\n"; while (1) { my $incmsg = $port->lookfor(9); # If we get data, then print it if ($incmsg) { print "\nFrom arduino: " . $incmsg . "\n\n"; } } } # What parent process should do else { sleep(1); my $choice = ' '; print "Please pick an option you'd like to use:\n"; while(1) { print " [1] Cycle [2] Relay OFF [3] Relay ON [4] Config [$lastChoice]: "; chomp($choice = <STDIN>); switch ($choice) { case /1/ { $SIG{ALRM} = sub { print "Expecting plant bed to be full; please check.\n"; $signalOut = $port->write('2'); # Signal to set pin 3 low print "Sent cmd: 2\n"; }; $signalOut = $port->write('1'); # Signal to arduino to set pin 3 High print "Sent cmd: 1\n"; print "Waiting for plant bed to fill...\n"; alarm (420); $lastChoice = $choice; } case /2/ { $signalOut = $port->write('2'); # Signal to set pin 3 low print "Sent cmd: 2"; $lastChoice = $choice; } case /3/ { $signalOut = $port->write('1'); # Signal to arduino to set pin 3 High print "Sent cmd: 1"; $lastChoice = $choice; } case /4/ { print "There is no configuration available yet.   • Problem with writing a hexadecimal string

    - by quilby
    Here is my code /* gcc -c -Wall -g main.c gcc -g -lm -o main main.o */ #include <stdlib.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <string.h> void stringToHex(const char* string, char* hex) { int i = 0; for(i = 0; i < strlen(string)/2; i++) { printf("s%x", string[2*i]); //for debugging sprintf(&hex[i], "%x", string[2*i]); printf("h%x\n", hex[i]); //for debugging } } void writeHex(char* hex, int length, FILE* file, long position) { fseek(file, position, SEEK_SET); fwrite(hex, sizeof(char), length, file); } int main(int argc, char** argv) { FILE* pic = fopen("hi.bmp", "w+b"); const char* string = "f2"; char hex[strlen(string)/2]; stringToHex(string, hex); writeHex(hex, strlen(string)/2, pic, 0); fclose(pic); return 0; } I want it to save the hexadecimal number 0xf2 to a file (later I will have to write bigger/longer numbers though). The program prints out - s66h36 And when I use hexedit to view the file I see the number '36' in it. Why is my code not working? Thanks!

  • displaying video from webcam in OpenCV

    - by Adi
    hi all, I have installed VS2008 and am able to run the demo codes "camshiftdemo and lkdemo " which comes in the opencv library. With this done, now I am trying to run some simple codes from the internet to get acquainted with the OpenCV. I am just trying to display video from webcam and I am getting the following error.. Error I am getting is : Unhandled exception at 0x5e7e3d10 (highgui200.dll) in opencv.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x719b3856. The code I am trying to run is : include include void main(int argc,char argv[]) { int c; IplImage color_img; CvCapture* cv_cap = cvCaptureFromCAM(-1); // -1 = only one cam or doesn't matter cvNamedWindow("Video",1); // create window for(;;) { color_img = cvQueryFrame(cv_cap); // get frame if(color_img != 0) cvShowImage("Video", color_img); // show frame c = cvWaitKey(10); // wait 10 ms or for key stroke if(c == 27) break; // if ESC, break and quit } /* clean up */ cvReleaseCapture( &cv_cap ); cvDestroyWindow("Video"); } Any help in this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks aditya

    Hi, i have this piece of code that is giving me trouble. I know all the threads are reading the same struct. But i have no idea how to fix this. #include <pthread.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> typedef struct { int a,b; } s_param; void * threadfunc(void *parm) { s_param *param2 = parm; printf("ID:%d and v:%d\n",param2->a,param2->b); pthread_exit(NULL); } int main(int argc, char **argv) { pthread_t thread[3]; int rc=0,i; void * status; for(i=0; i<3 ; ++i){ s_param param; param.b=10; param.a=i; rc = pthread_create(&thread[i], NULL, threadfunc, &param ); // !!!! if(rc){ exit(1); } } for(i=0; i<3 ; ++i){ pthread_join(thread[i],&status); } return 0; } output: ID:2 and v:10 ID:2 and v:10 ID:2 and v:10 and what i need: ID:0 and v:10 ID:1 and v:10 ID:2 and v:10 Thank you.

  • Segmentation fault when enabling optimization in a simple GTK+ application?

    - by gatopeich
    Might be that it is too late, but I find it at least curious that the following few lines seem to be causing a segmentation fault if and only when compiled with gcc's optimization, even "-O1"! settings_dialog = gtk_dialog_new_with_buttons("gatotray Settings" , NULL, 0, GTK_STOCK_CANCEL, FALSE, GTK_STOCK_SAVE, TRUE, 0); g_signal_connect(G_OBJECT(settings_dialog), "response", G_CALLBACK(gtk_widget_destroy), NULL); g_signal_connect(G_OBJECT(settings_dialog), "destroy", G_CALLBACK(settings_destroyed), NULL); GtkWidget *vb = gtk_dialog_get_content_area(GTK_DIALOG(settings_dialog)); GtkWidget *hb = gtk_hbox_new(FALSE, 3); gtk_container_add(GTK_CONTAINER(hb), gtk_label_new("Background:")); GtkWidget *cb = gtk_color_button_new(); gtk_container_add(GTK_CONTAINER(hb), cb); gtk_container_add(GTK_CONTAINER(vb), hb); This is the backtrace: (gdb) backtrace #0 0x00007ffff4d88052 in ?? Versions: gcc: 4.4.3 GTK+: 2.20.1 BTW, forgot to mention that commenting out certain lines after the conflictive call prevents it from happening. Particularly the line with "gtk_container_add(GTK_CONTAINER(hb), cb);" I tried almost all suitable combinations of GtkTypes/GTK_MACROS, it makes no difference.

  • Qt - QWebView Problem

    - by user547057
    Hi, I have a PyQt gui script which consists of a QWebView widget. I'm trying to send a GET request, i.e go to a page, fill a form and hit click using the code at the bottom of this question. Since i'm dealing with the documentElement(a QWebElement) of the webview, I need to place all DOM actions in a separate function(which I have named fillForm) and connect the loadFinished() signal into the function. Without connecting the signal, the document will not have loaded and I won't be able to get the elements I want. I'm able to submit the form correctly and get the proper response from the webpage. The problem i'm having is that, the above leads to a sort of infinite loop. This is because the webpage gets reloaded each time a new page is loaded, so the form gets filled each and every single time without stopping. I'd like to know if there's some way of finding out whether the WebView's page has loaded fully, non-asynchronously or maybe pause execution of the script(without freezing the gui) until the whole document has loaded. I'm unable to come up with a satisfactory solution(my idea consisted of keeping a global variable to track clicks) to this problem. I would appreciate it if someone could help me out with a better way to tackle this. Thanks! Here's the code i'm using import sys from PyQt4.QtCore import * from PyQt4.QtGui import * from PyQt4.QtWebKit import * from PyQt4 import QtCore app = QApplication(sys.argv) web = QWebView() web.load(QUrl("http://mywebsite.com")) def fillForm(): doc = web.page().mainFrame().documentElement() searchform = doc.findFirst("input[type=text]") searchform.setAttribute("value", "hello") button = doc.findFirst("input[type=submit]") button.evaluateJavaScript("click()") QtCore.QObject.connect(web, QtCore.SIGNAL("loadFinished"), fillForm) web.show() sys.exit(app.exec_())
