  • UIWebView EXC_BAD_ACCESS crash

    - by HARDWARRIOR
I'm experiencing crashes of an app that uses UIWebView. Usually it's when page is not fully loaded and UIWebView is sent stopLoading selector. Or when UIWebView fully loaded page. I've got EXC_BAD_ACCESS. Stack looks like this: #0 0x95bb7688 in objc_msgSend #1 0x30a671db in -[UIWebView webView:decidePolicyForNavigationAction:request:frame:decisionListener:] #2 0x3024a10d in __invoking___ #3 0x30249ff8 in -[NSInvocation invoke] #4 0x358ab160 in HandleDelegateSource #5 0x302452c1 in CFRunLoopRunSpecific #6 0x30244628 in CFRunLoopRunInMode #7 0x32044c31 in GSEventRunModal #8 0x32044cf6 in GSEventRun #9 0x309021ee in UIApplicationMain #10 0x0000239c in main at main.m:13 for me most strange thing here is webView:decidePolicyForNavigationAction:request:frame:decisionListener: selector sent to UIWebView, because there is no such selector in UIWebView documentation! Only for Cocoa (not cocoa touch) WebView. I suspect that there is something wrong with UIWebView or its delegate. But I can't set breakpoint to watch them. Please advise how I can get more info in this situation.

  • NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest: fails when using POST

    - by Combat
    I'm using a custom NSURLCache to intercept calls for certain web pages in order to modify them dynamically. Inside cachedResponseForRequest: I modify the request, then send it out using sendSynchronousRequest. This works very well until you attempt to submit a form. If there is post data it fails. If i remove the HTTPBody and set the request to GET, it succeeds. But i need it to work with POST. If i send the request asynchronously it also works which is why i can't figure out why the synchronous request fails. Here's my stack trace: Date/Time: 2010-01-17 12:37:55.416 -0800 OS Version: iPhone OS 3.1.2 (7D11) Report Version: 104 Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000001c Crashed Thread: 2 Thread 2 Crashed: 0 CFNetwork 0x0000b4e4 HTTPMessage::copyHeaderFieldValue(__CFString const*) + 18 1 CFNetwork 0x0000b4c8 CFHTTPMessageCopyHeaderFieldValue + 16 2 CFNetwork 0x0000e022 HTTPProtocol::createStream() + 328 3 CFNetwork 0x0000de8a HTTPProtocol::createAndOpenStream() + 458 4 CFNetwork 0x0000cba2 HTTPProtocol::startLoad() + 278 5 CFNetwork 0x0000c8da URLConnectionLoader::loaderScheduleOriginLoad(_CFURLRequest const*) + 216 6 CFNetwork 0x0000c77c URLConnectionLoader::loaderScheduleLoad(_CFURLRequest const*) + 280 7 CFNetwork 0x0000c5e6 URLConnectionLoader::LoaderConnectionEventQueue::processAllEventsAndConsumePayload(XConnectionEventInfo, long) + 134 8 CFNetwork 0x0000c53a URLConnectionLoader::processEvents() + 60 9 CFNetwork 0x0000a892 URLConnection::multiplexerClientPerform(RunLoopMultiplexer) + 30 10 CFNetwork 0x0000a812 MultiplexerSource::perform() + 86 11 CFNetwork 0x0000a7b2 MultiplexerSource::_perform(void*) + 2 12 CoreFoundation 0x000573a0 CFRunLoopRunSpecific + 1908 13 CoreFoundation 0x00056c18 CFRunLoopRunInMode + 44 14 Foundation 0x0005a998 +[NSURLConnection(NSURLConnectionReallyInternal) _resourceLoadLoop:] + 172 15 Foundation 0x00053ac6 -[NSThread main] + 42 16 Foundation 0x00001d0e __NSThread_main_ + 852 17 libSystem.B.dylib 0x0002b7b0 _pthread_body + 20 As you can see, copyHeaderFieldValue is causing the crash.   • Objective C - displaying data in NSTextView

    - by Leo
Hi, I'm having difficulties displaying data in a TextView in iPhone programming. I'm analyzing incoming audio data (from the microphone). In order to do that, I create an object "analyzer" from my SignalAnalyzer class which performs analysis of the incoming data. What I would like to do is to display each new incoming data in a TextView in realtime. So when I push a button, I create the object "analyzer" whiwh analyze the incoming data. Each time there is new data, I need to display it on the screen in a TextView. My problem is that I'm getting an error because (I think) I'm trying to send a message to the parent class (the one taking care of displaying stuff in my TextView : it has a TexView instance variable linked in Interface Builder). What should I do in order to tell my parent class what it needs to display ? Or how sohould I design my classes to display automaticlally something ? Thank you for your help. PS : Here is my error : 2010-04-19 14:59:39.360 MyApp[1421:5003] void WebThreadLockFromAnyThread(), 0x14a890: Obtaining the web lock from a thread other than the main thread or the web thread. • Why am i getting "error:1409F07F:SSL routines:SSL3_WRITE_PENDING: bad write retry" error while attem

    - by Amit Ben Shahar
I came across this error, and had to look in a lot of placed until i was able to find the reason for this error and thought this might save someone else the hassle. the reason is pretty simple: when SSL_Write returns with SSL_ERROR_WANT_WRITE or SSL_ERROR_WANT_READ, you have to repeat the call to SSL_write with the same parameters again, after the condition is satisfied. Calling it with different parameters, will yield the 1409F07F bar write retry error. Hope this saved someone's important time :P Amit.

  • EXC_BAD_ACCESS error on a UITableView with ARC?

    - by Arnaud Drizard
I am building a simple app with a custom bar tab which loads the content of the ViewController from a UITableView located in another ViewController. However, every time I try to scroll on the tableview, I get an exc_bad_access error. I enabled NSzombies and guard malloc to get more info on the issue. In the console I get: "message sent to deallocated instance 0x19182f20" and after profiling I get: # Address Category Event Type RefCt Timestamp Size Responsible Library Responsible Caller 56 0x19182f20 FirstTabBarViewController Zombie -1 00:16.613.309 0 UIKit -[UIScrollView(UIScrollViewInternal) _scrollViewWillBeginDragging] Here is a bit of the code of the ViewController in which the error occurs: .h file: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "DataController.h" @interface FirstTabBarViewController : UIViewController <UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource> { IBOutlet UITableView* tabBarTable; } @property (strong, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIView *mainView; @property (strong, nonatomic) IBOutlet UITableView *tabBarTable; @property (nonatomic, strong) DataController *messageDataController; @end .m file: #import "FirstTabBarViewController.h" #import "DataController.h" @interface FirstTabBarViewController () @end @implementation FirstTabBarViewController @synthesize tabBarTable=_tabBarTable; - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]; if (self) { // Custom initialization } return self; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Dispose of any resources that can be recreated. } - (void)awakeFromNib { [super awakeFromNib]; self.messageDataController=[[DataController alloc] init]; } - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { return 1; } - (NSInteger) tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section{ return [self.messageDataController countOfList]; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"mainCell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil){ cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; }; NSString *expenseAtIndex = [self.messageDataController objectInListAtIndex:indexPath.row]; [[cell textLabel] setText:expenseAtIndex]; return cell; } - (BOOL)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView canEditRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { // Return NO if you do not want the specified item to be editable. return NO; } @end This FirstTabBarViewController is loaded in the MainViewController with the following custom segue: #import "customTabBarSegue.h" #import "MainViewController.h" @implementation customTabBarSegue -(void) perform { MainViewController *src= (MainViewController *) [self sourceViewController]; UIViewController *dst=(UIViewController *)[self destinationViewController]; for (UIView *view in src.placeholderView.subviews){ [view removeFromSuperview]; } src.currentViewController =dst; [src.placeholderView addSubview:dst.view]; } @end The Datacontroller class is just a simple NSMutableArray containing strings. I am using ARC so I don't understand where the memory management error comes from. Does anybody have a clue? Any help much appreciated ;) Thanks!!

  • When good programmers go bad!

    - by Ed Bloom
Hi, I'm a team lead/dev who manages a team of 10 programmers. Most of them are hard working talented guys. But of late, I've got this one person who while highly talented and has delivered great work for me in the past, has just become completely unreliable. It's not his ability - that is not in question - he's proven that many times. He just looks bored now. Is blatantly not doing much work (despite a LOT of pressure being put on the team to meet tight deadlines etc.) He just doesn't seem to care and looks bored. I'm partially guilty for not having addressed this before now - I was afraid to have to lose a talented guy given the workload I've got on. But at this stage it's becoming a problem and affecting those around him. Can anyone spare their thoughts or words of wisdom on how I should go about dealing this. I want the talented AND motivated guy back. Otherwise he's gonna have to go. Thanks, Ed

  • .Net HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() raises exception when http status code 400 (bad request) is return

    - by chefsmart
I am in a situation where when I get an HTTP 400 code from the server, it is a completely legal way of the server telling me what was wrong with my request (using a message in the HTTP response content) However, the .NET HttpWebRequest raises an exception when the status code is 400. How do I handle this? For me a 400 is completely legal, and rather helpful. The HTTP content has some important information but the exception throws me off my path.

  • SOLVED mwfeedparser integrating in my app gives EXC_BAD_ACCESS (code=1, address=0xa0040008)

    - by Pranoy C
SOLVED- Got it! The problem was that since I am creating the DoParsingStuff *parseThisUrl object in the viewDidLoad method, it's scope was only within that method. So after the method finished, the object got deallocated. I changed it to an instance variable instead and now it works. It gives a different error but that it an entirely different issue. Issue was: I have been struggling with trying to integrate the mwfeedparser library in my app for parsing RSS and ATOM feeds. It throws a gives EXC_BAD_ACCESS error which I can't seem to troubleshoot. //My Class looks like - My interface looks like: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import "MWFeedParser.h" #import "NSString+HTML.h" @protocol ParseCompleted <NSObject> -(void)parsedArray:(NSMutableArray *)parsedArray; @end @interface DoParsingStuff : NSObject<MWFeedParserDelegate> @property (nonatomic, strong) NSMutableArray *parsedItems; @property (nonatomic, strong) NSArray *itemsToDisplay; @property (nonatomic, strong) MWFeedParser *feedParser; @property (nonatomic, strong) NSURL *feedurl; @property (nonatomic, strong) id <ParseCompleted> delegate; -(id)initWithFeedURL:(NSURL *)url; @end //And Implementaion: #import "DoParsingStuff.h" @implementation DoParsingStuff @synthesize parsedItems = _parsedItems; @synthesize itemsToDisplay = _itemsToDisplay; @synthesize feedParser = _feedParser; @synthesize feedurl=_feedurl; @synthesize delegate = _delegate; -(id)initWithFeedURL:(NSURL *)url{ if(self = [super init]){ _feedurl=url; _feedParser = [[MWFeedParser alloc] initWithFeedURL:_feedurl]; _feedParser.delegate=self; _feedParser.feedParseType=ParseTypeFull; _feedParser.connectionType=ConnectionTypeAsynchronously; } return self; } -(void)doParsing{ BOOL y = [_feedParser parse]; } # pragma mark - # pragma mark MWFeedParserDelegate - (void)feedParserDidStart:(MWFeedParser *)parser { //Just tells what url is being parsed e.g. http://www.wired.com/reviews/feeds/latestProductsRss NSLog(@"Started Parsing: %@", parser.url); } - (void)feedParser:(MWFeedParser *)parser didParseFeedInfo:(MWFeedInfo *)info { //What is the Feed about e.g. "Product Reviews" NSLog(@"Parsed Feed Info: “%@”", info.title); //self.title = info.title; } - (void)feedParser:(MWFeedParser *)parser didParseFeedItem:(MWFeedItem *)item { //Prints current element's title e.g. “An Arthropod for Your iDevices” NSLog(@"Parsed Feed Item: “%@”", item.title); if (item) [_parsedItems addObject:item]; } - (void)feedParserDidFinish:(MWFeedParser *)parser {//This is where you can do your own stuff with the parsed items NSLog(@"Finished Parsing%@", (parser.stopped ? @" (Stopped)" : @"")); [_delegate parsedArray:_parsedItems]; //[self updateTableWithParsedItems]; } - (void)feedParser:(MWFeedParser *)parser didFailWithError:(NSError *)error { NSLog(@"Finished Parsing With Error: %@", error); if (_parsedItems.count == 0) { //self.title = @"Failed"; // Show failed message in title } else { // Failed but some items parsed, so show and inform of error UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Parsing Incomplete" message:@"There was an error during the parsing of this feed. Not all of the feed items could parsed." delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:@"Dismiss" otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alert show]; } //[self updateTableWithParsedItems]; } @end //I am calling this from my main viewcontroller as such: #import "DoParsingStuff.h" @interface ViewController : UIViewController <ParseCompleted> .... //And I have the following methods in my implementation: DoParsingStuff *parseThisUrl = [[DoParsingStuff alloc] initWithFeedURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.theverge.com/rss/index.xml"]]; parseThisUrl.delegate=self; [parseThisUrl doParsing]; I have the method defined here as- -(void)parsedArray:(NSMutableArray *)parsedArray{ NSLog(@"%@",parsedArray); } //I stepped through breakpoints- When I try to go through the breakpoints, I see that everything goes fine till the very last [parseThisUrl doParsing]; in my delegate class. After that it starts showing me memory registers where I get lost. I think it could be due to arc as I have disabled arc on the mwfeedparser files but am using arc in the above classes. If you need the entire project for this, let me know. I tried it with NSZombies enabled and got a bit more info out of it: -[DoParsingStuff respondsToSelector:]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x6a52480 I am not using release/autorelease/retain etc. in this class...but it is being used in the mwfeedparser library.

  • Turning off IE8 Compatibility Mode, Good or Bad?

    - by Mike Cornell
Hopefully this question isn't as subjective as I think it may be. I have an Intranet application which needs to work with IE8 as the enterprise is replacing IE6 as the standard browser. Our testing team found that it did not work in IE8, little did they know that it actually did. Their browsers were set to run IE8 in compatibility mode for Intranet applications. I found that if I set the meta tag for X-UA-Compatible to IE=EmulateIE8 that I could force the browser to render this application as IE8 and the application worked fine. Are there any pitfalls that I don't know about for this solution? If so, is there a better solution?

  • UINavigationController crash because of pushing and poping UIViewControllers

    - by Wayne Lo
My question is related to my discovery of a reason for UINavigationController to crash. So I will tell you about the discovery first. Please bare with me. The issue: I have a UINavigationController as as subview of UIWindow, a rootViewController class and a custom MyViewController class. The following steps will get a Exc_Bad_Access, 100% reproducible.: [myNaviationController pushViewController:myViewController_1stInstance animated:YES]; [myNaviationController pushViewController:myViewController_2ndInstance animated:YES]; Hit the left back tapBarItem twice (pop out two of the myViewController instances) to show the rootViewController. After a painful 1/2 day of try and error, I finally figure out the answer but also raise a question. The Solutio: I declared many objects in the .m file as a lazy way of declaring private variables to avoid cluttering the .h file. For instance, #impoart "MyViewController.h" NSMutableString*variable1; @implement ... -(id)init { ... varialbe1=[[NSMutableString alloc] init]; ... } -(void)dealloc { [variable1 release]; } For some reasons, the iphone OS may loose track of these "lazy private" variables memory allocation when myViewController_1stInstance's view is unloaded (but still in the navigation controller's stacks) after loading the view of myViewController_2ndInstance. The first time to tap the back tapBarItem is ok since myViewController_2ndInstance'view is still loaded. But the 2nd tap on the back tapBarItem gave me hell because it tried to dealloc the 2nd instance. Executing [variable release] resulted in Exc_Bad_Access because it pointed randomly (loose pointer). To fix this problem is simple, declare variable1 as a @private in the .h file. Here is my Question: I have been using the "lazy private" variables for quite some time without any issues until they are involved in UINavigationController. Is this a bug in iPhone OS? Or there is a fundamental misunderstanding on my part about Objective C? Please help.

  • How to weed out the bad programmers from the competent ones in the interview process

    - by thaBadDawg
I am getting ready to add another developer to my team and I want to try and fix the mistakes I made in my last hiring cycle. I like to think of myself as a competent programmer (I can be given a project, I can deliver on that project and the deliverable work with very few if any bugs) and so I ask questions that I would ask myself in an interview. I've come to the conclusion that my interviewing skills are completely lacking because the last two people I've hired interviewed incredibly well but have been less than ideal at the tasks that they've been given. My CTO (who was completely useless in giving any guidance as to how) suggested I improve on my interviewing skills. The question is this - How does one programmer interview another programmer and get an understanding of the other programmer's abilities? Edit: Though slightly different, the answers provided to this question could be of use to you. That question concerns specific interview questions while yours seems to be more general about interview approaches and not just about the questions themselves. Update: Just for the hell of it I asked two of the guys I worked with if they could do FizzBuzz. 45 minutes and 80 minutes to work it out. And these aren't bottom level guys either.

  • Core Data error when assigning variable with one-to-one relationship

  • I get EXC_BAD_ACCESS when MaxConcurrentOperationCount > 1

    - by kudorgyozo
    Hello i am using NSOperationQueue to download images in the background. I have created a custom NSOperation to download the images. I put the images in table cells. The problem is if I do [operationQueue setMaxConcurrentOperationCount: 10] and i scroll down several cells the program crashes with EXC_BAD_ACCESS. Every time it crashes at the same place in the table. There are 3 cells one after the other which are for the same company and have the same logo so basically it should download the images 3 times. Every other time it works fine. - (void) main { NSAutoreleasePool * pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSURL *url = [[NSURL alloc] initWithString:self.imageURL]; debugLog(@"downloading image: %@", self.imageURL); //NSError *error = nil; NSData *data = [[NSData alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:url]; [url release]; UIImage *image = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:data]; [data release]; if (image) { if (image.size.width != ICONWIDTH && image.size.height != ICONHEIGHT) { UIImage *resizedImage; CGSize itemSize = CGSizeMake(ICONWIDTH, ICONHEIGHT); UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(itemSize); CGRect imageRect = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, itemSize.width, itemSize.height); [image drawInRect:imageRect]; resizedImage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); self.theImage = resizedImage; } else { self.theImage = image; } [image release]; } [delegate didFinishDownloadingImage: self]; [pool release]; } This is how i handle downloading the images. If i comment out [delegate didFinishDownloadingImage: self]; in the function above it doesn't crash but of course it is useless. -(void) didFinishDownloadingImage:(ImageDownloadOperation *) imageDownloader { [self performSelectorOnMainThread: @selector(handleDidFinishDownloadingImage:) withObject: imageDownloader waitUntilDone: FALSE]; } -(void) handleDidFinishDownloadingImage:(ImageDownloadOperation *)imageDownloadOperation { NSArray *visiblePaths = [self.myTableView indexPathsForVisibleRows]; CompanyImgDownloaderState *stateObject = (CompanyImgDownloaderState *)[imageDownloadOperation stateObject]; if ([visiblePaths containsObject: stateObject.indexPath]) { //debugLog(@"didFinishDownloadingImage %@ %@", imageDownloader.theImage); UITableViewCell *cell = [self.myTableView cellForRowAtIndexPath: stateObject.indexPath]; UIImageView *imageView = (UIImageView *)[cell viewWithTag: 1]; if (imageDownloadOperation.theImage) { imageView.image = imageDownloadOperation.theImage; stateObject.company.icon = imageDownloadOperation.theImage; } else { imageView.image = [(TestWebServiceAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] getCylexIcon]; stateObject.company.icon = [(TestWebServiceAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] getCylexIcon]; } } }

  • EXC_BAD_ACCESS NSUrlConnection

Hi all, i got an EXC_BAD_ACCESS when i perform the last line of the function (webData). -(void)requestSoap{ NSString *requestUrl = @"http://www.website.com/webservice.php"; NSString *soapMessage = @"the soap message"; //website and soapmessage are valid in original code. • PHP bitwise left shifting 32 spaces problem and bad results with large numbers arithmetic operations

    - by Victor Stanciu
Hello, I have the following problems: First: I am trying to do a 32-spaces bitwise left shift on a large number, and for some reason the number is always returned as-is. For example: echo(516103988<<32); // echoes 516103988 Because shifting the bits to the left one space is the equivalent of multiplying by 2, i tried multiplying the number by 2^32, and it works, it returns 2216649749795176448. Second: I have to add 9379 to the number from the above point: printf('%0.0f', 2216649749795176448 + 9379); // prints 2216649749795185920 Should print: 2216649749795185827

  • lseek/write suddenly returns -1 with errno = 9 (Bad file descriptor)

    - by Ger Teunis
My application uses lseek to seek the desired position to write data. The file is opened using open() command successfully and my application was able to use lseek and wite lots of times. At a given time, for some users and not easily reproducible the lseek returns -1 with an errno of 9. File is not closed before this and the filehandle (int) isn't reset. After this an other file is created open is okay again and lseek and write works again. To make it even worse, this user tried the complete sequence again and all was well. So my question is, can the OS close the file handle for me for some reason? What could cause this? A file indexer or file scanner of some sort? What is the best way to solve this; is this pseudo code the best solution? (never mind the code layout, will create functions for it) int fd=open(...); if (fd>-1) { long result = lseek(fd,....); if (result == -1 && errno==9) { close(fd..); //make sure we try to close nicely fd=open(...); result = lseek(fd,....); } } Anybody experience with something similar? Summary: file seek and write works okay for a given fd and suddenly gives back errno=9 without a reason.

  • Svcutil generating bad config with multiple endpoints

    - by vfilby
I have a WCF service that has exposed a soap and an xml endpoint. When I use svcutil to generate the proxy code on the client side the generated configuration contains two endpoints which causes the client to fail. If I edit the web.config file and remove the second endpoint (with the custom binding) all works as expected. I've got a button the user tap to start recording and tap again to stop. When it stop I want the recorded voice 'echo' back so the user can hear what was recorded. This works fine the first time.
