    I see two burn methods in the options menu of all disc burning programs: "Track at once" and "Disc at once". What is the difference between these two methods?   • No Option to Burn ISO on Windows 7

    From what I hear, Windows 7 is able to burn ISO files natively. I should be able to right-click on a given ISO and choose "Burn disk image", but I do not have that option on any ISO I try. I am assuming that I fudged the associations somehow. Can you help me get back on track?

  • Problems using InfraRecorder to back up ISOs of certain CDs

    I've gotten into the habit of backing up my CDs as ISO files, just in case the discs should be damanged, lost, or destroyed. Using InfraRecorder, the process is pretty painless. Unfortunately, I have run into at least two discs that don't back up. I get the error message: Can't read source disc. Retrying from sector 252270 Sometimes this will appear repeatedly. One of the discs is my retail copy of Star Trek: Armada II; the other is disc one of DOOM 3. Both discs run flawlessly when I put them in the drive and let Windows AutoPlay them. Armada II appears as two tracks (one data, one audio) in InfraRecorder, and the error happens at the approximate track boundary. DOOM 3's first disc, however, fails much sooner (around sector 990) and appears as one solid data track. Am I simply using the wrong tools for this job? InfraRecorder is a nice free tool that I can run from my flash drive and use for most tasks of this type, but it does seem to have trouble with certain things. Ideally I'd like to hear about any workarounds people have found for this issue, but if I must switch tools I'm open to it (preferably other free tools).

    How would i enable Autoplay to prompt in Windows XP? I have tried the following things: right clicking the drive and selecting autoplay and have the radio button for prompt checked. I have tried Microsoft's autofix.exe as well. Neither have done the trick. In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/CDROM there is an Autorun - REG_DWORD_0x00000001 (1). Thanks

  • Need to automount dvd or cdrom at fixed mount point in Ubuntu 11.04

    Ubuntu 11.04, by default, automounts a cdrom or dvd at /media/<vol_name>. I need to make the automounting system use a fixed name instead of the volume name for all CDs or DVDs inserted into this particular drive, e.g. "/media/op-drive0". A bit of searching turns up pretty much the same solution I used, successfully, on an older, gentoo box, which is to create an fdi file for hal, along the lines of the instructions at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=91450. This doesn't seem to work on this box. Other sources say to use the gnome-mount utility to set the mounting properties. Ubuntu 11.04 doesn't know about the gnome-mount program. Any ideas?

So simplified I have something like: #!/usr/bin/env node process.cd('/Users') When I then run this command like ./bin/nodefile it exits but stays in the same directory it started in. I have also tried shelljs, What is the best way to do this? I understand it's working but it's just in a separate process. Thanks.

  • Hard-drive will randomly fail to load GRUB. Booting a live USB/CD fixes the issue temporarily

    I am running 12.04 64-bit and am dual booting with Win7, for full disclosure, although I suspect that has nothing to do with my problem. Occasionally the boot-loader(GRUB) will fail to load and I will be presented with a black screen with a single blinking line. There is no apparent pattern although I suspect there is one and it is related to a program I am running. This has happened to me eight out of ten power cycles now and I can fix it consistently, however, I have no idea why it happens. My current fix is to boot a live CD (I've tried both KNOPPIX and Ubuntu with the same result) and that's it. Somehow booting with the live CD is enough to "wake-up" my hard drive. I then reboot and GRUB magically appears again. So what is going on? Is it possible that a program is corrupting my MBR and the live CD is restoring it? How can I narrow down the possibilities? Thanks. Additional: This is still a problem. I'm convinced now that it is not hardware related as I've spent the last month and several boot cycles on Windows without a hiccup. Recently when I started using Ubuntu again the problem started again. I am more interested in figuring out what is going on rather than actually fixing the problem. Are there any tools, logs, etc. I can use to unravel this mystery?

  • Hardware Lossless Compression for Hard Drives?

    I happened across this article about hardware based hard drive encryption and realized that not only would this give a great way to protect your data but it would also speed up the applications that we use to encrypt that data. This lead me to wonder... Would it be possible to do the same thing for compression so that all of the data is compressed or uncompressed appropriately as it is read and written to the drive? I haven't done any firmware programming in quite some time so I'm not even sure this is technically possible. If it were, however, it could probably give quite a bit more storage space to folks. What are the pros and cons of programming such an approach to be used in the firmware? G-Man

  • Mounting a Microsoft Azure CloudDrive in a VMRole

    Mounting a Drive in a VMRole is a little more complicated then a web or worker.  The Web and Worker roles offer OnStart and OnStop events, which you can use to mount or unmount your drives. The VMRole does not have these same events so you have to provide another way for the drives to be mounted or unmounted. The problem I have run into is what if you have multiple drives and you only want to mount certain drives. How do you let your user mount the drive. I am not going to go into details on what kind of GUI to present to the user. I have done this in a simple WPF application as well as a console application. We are going to need to get the storage account details. One thing to note when you are mounting cloud drives you cannot use https and have to use http. We force the use of http by using false when we create the CloudStorageAccount.   StorageCredentialsAccountAndKey credentials = new StorageCredentialsAccountAndKey("AccountName", "AccountKey"); CloudStorageAccount storageAccount = new CloudStorageAccount(credentials, false);   Next we need to get a reference to the container.   var blobClient = storageAccount.CreateCloudBlobClient(); var container = blobClient.GetContainerReference("ContainerName");   Now we need to get a list of the drives in the container   var drives = container.ListBlobs();   Now that we have a list of the drives in the container we can let the user choose which drive they want to mount. I am just selecting the 1st drive in the list for the example and getting the Uri of the drive.   var driveUri = drives.First().Uri;   Now that we have the Uri we need to get the reference to the drive. var drive = new CloudDrive(driveUri, storageAccount.Credentials);   Now all that is left is to mount the drive.   var driveLetter = drive.Mount(0, DriveMountOptions.None);   To unmount the drive all you have to do is call unmount on the drive. drive.Unmount();   You do need to make sure you unount the drives when you are done with them. I have run into issues with the drives being locked until the VMRole is rebooted. I have also managed to have a drive be permanently locked and I was forced to delete it and upload it again. I have been unable to reproduce the permanent lock but I am still trying. What I thought about would be like a server interface, meaning explorer.exe would send "queries", like, list directory, or get file through a pipe or whatever...   • Apache console accesses network drives, service does not?

    I have an apache 2.2 server running Django. We have a network drive T: which we need constant access to within our Django app. When running Apache as a service, we cannot access this drive, as far as any django code is concerned the drive does not exist. If I add... <Directory "t:/"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None Order allow,deny allow from all </Directory> to the httpd.conf file the service no longer runs, but I can start apache as a console and it works fine, Django can find the network drive and all is well. Why is there a difference between the console and the service? Should there be a difference? I have the service using my own log on so in theory it should have the same access as I do. I'm keen to keep it running as a service as it's far less obtrusive when I'm working on the server (unless there's a way to hide the console?). Any help would be most appreciated.

    Hello all, I have mapped a network drive to a computer in my home network. Now I am trying to access it via PHP - I did this quick test: echo opendir('Z:\\'); This gives me: Warning: opendir(Z:\) [function.opendir]: failed to open dir: No error in C:\wamp\www\webs\tester-function.php on line 3 What have I done wrong here? I don't want my users typing in the UNC path so is there a way to get the UNC path for them and maybe that will work when I try to access it? This is possible in Microsoft languages but I am not sure how to get PHP to do this - maybe using a cmd.exe command? Please note, the mapped drive does exist as I can see it and I can access it. It also does not appear to be a permissions problem as I am assuming it would of complained about this IF it could access that drive...right? Thanks all for any help

  • Why doesn't the Ubuntu Installer see all of my hard drives

    I'm trying to setup a dual boot system with Windows Vista 64 (already installed) and Ubuntu 10.10. I added a new drive which is identical to the one Vista is installed on. When I boot into the LiveCD I can see and mount the second drive and edit it in Gparted. However, when I use the installer it will only bring up the drive that already has Vista installed. I've tried everything I know. I'm not sure if its a BIOS setting or something else I've missed.
